'Tis been 2 months since I was here I belive. Just started to play a little again with my friends and now they're reseting the ladder.. Well, that ought to be fun I guess I'm going to make some newbies the last week in ladder their best week by throwing some Enis, HotOs and SoJs ^^
Good time for it too.. I guess this is the sign for me to quit Diablo. But who know, I might be back to check the new economy and maybe the new patch

Why dont blizzard simply say : "Sry, diablo 2 doesnt make us money, because there is no monthly fee on it, so we want to shut down the servers once and for all, and only support games with monthly fee (because its business and we want money...and we dont care about you, sry)!"???
I think the ladder reset is just for keeping players away from game, so in 1-2 years they can shut down diablo 2 finally. It would be nice, if they just tell us the truth about it. But this is not nice from them. However they succeeded with one more player....that is me. I cant play all the day to get the necessary items for my characters in time to enjoy the real game for long. I like the game very much, but i hate blizzard for doing this! I havent been banned from any sites, but everthing should be started sooner or later, so a small message to blizz (i know the rules and the consequence, so pls bann me permenantly because of it) :

If that's how Blizzard is reasoning, then why are there still patches coming out for Starcraft? That game obviously doesn't make them any money anymore. I think they'll keep at least a minimum of support for all of their games as long as they're kept being played, MMO or not. I can hardly see regular ladder resets as a way to scare players off. On the contrary, the longer it takes them to reset the ladder, the more it'll start to resemble all the things we don't like about non-ladder. I find it a bit strange that people are moaning over their characters being converted to NL, when they knew full well this would happen anywhere between six months and two years when they checked that little box that said 'ladder'. If you don't like that, go and play NL or SP. For me, it's what keeps this game fresh and lively.

I don't care about their motives, as long as I have fun at playing it. To be honest, it's quite naive to believe that they are doing a thing for something else than earning money or preventing a loss of it. Also, you knew in advance that the ladder is going to reset sooner or later and you can as well play in NL, so I think your complaint about it is pointless and your speculation that Blizzard did it to scare off players is without substance.
Resetting the ladder actually keeps more players on their toes, so they play it longer than they normally would. Probably because they are diehards who will refuse to play WoW anyway, but that way they can at least be prevented to switch to online games from competitors. As already said, I don't care about their motives or have any illusions about them.

That's absurd, it's bringing more people to play D2. And you're free to play nonladder, you know. You can get all the same items there.
Not to mention the fact that Diablo 1 is still going on battle.net.

I played really hard to get ebotd ba, infy, eni, coh, and the like... In the last week i could successfully complete my new trapsin that i havent been played before (ok, there are some items that she needs, but im not perfectionist). Hmm, shall i play with her at NL? Where there is no Clone Dia event (that is one of the coolest thing in d2 for me)? Where there is no Uber Tristram? So why i should be happy when i wont be able to play the parts of the game that i like the most?

The problem is that i like the game. And i like to play at Ladder. I dont like SP or NL, though. Why? Because the Ladder is where every event/item can be found. I dont have too much time to play, so getting the best items is very hard for me. I dont buy rws, i always roll them, because i like the feeling to do it, and i dont care much about the result. I like rolling spirits. Oh, sadly i cant roll spirits in NL...No problem, roll a Forti...Hmm, sadly i also cant roll that. Then lets roll an infy...Hmm...Ladder-only too. Ok, lets do sg else, then rolling...Lets hunt for ubers. Oh, ubers are only exist in Ladder...So, shall i play NL or SP?

Many people relish the opportunity to be on equal ground with everyone else for a while, and to actually do quests in 8 person parties. People start playing again just for this.
Many people will still be selling them.
And although I've never played nonladder, I'm 99% sure Dclone and the ubers work exactly the same, except being a bit easier. Indeed, I see no mention of them not being available on nonladder anywhere I look.

It never occurred to me on softcore. Usually, ppl join the game and hostile everyone, then they come hunting for you. Sometimes u kill them, most of the times u don't (lvl 24 vs lvl 88).
Ohh and if they hostile you, note that TP's from others in your party WILL NOT work for some reason, so you have to make your own tp to go to town, or save & exit.

That "while" ends in the same moment a random dupper finds first rune. From there mass dupping starts, and d2jsp users buy all the dupped stuff for their absurd fg amounts. Voila, they are running in enigmas and such, and you're struggling to get your first spirit. Equal grounds, lol. :whistling:
The only "equal grounds" are around the ladder end.. where poor/legit ppl have had enough time to get most of the better stuff. The only difference between mega rich player and normal player is that the former will have some great crafts crafts (which are a luxury anyway) and maybe perfect rolls of runewords (which have totally utterly marginal effect on gameplay, you will never know if your ba is 380 or 400 ed without checking anyway). It's not the other way round.
On Jsp, which forces you to make an account there, and not everyone likes that site (I don't.)
You can ofc try to get your ladder only runewords on kiddo.net, but
1. The kids demand triple price for everything, very annoying
2. You cannot compete with ppl playing NLD all the time, those have thousands of HRs and dupped sojs. And what your average ladder player has? 1-2 sojs, couple HRs, some mediocre roll runewords?
3. If you're looking for something unusual, you have to idle in your game endlessly for someone to enter, not everyone likes that or has time to do it.
I understand Kuzanth and agree with him partly. NLD is not a bad realm, but much less "competetive".. new ladder is totally imbalanced due to the "forum gold" which allows some ppl to retain their wealth throughout all ladders while the rest loses everything they have. I left myself because of that. I'm tired of duping/boting rich guys running in full enigmas and me and the rest of the poor newby crowds desperately looking for their first shako.
Also.. The rich ppl buy their gear, set their bots, get a lot of starting stuff like shakos/occus, sell the stuff for runes on bnet and sell the runes at d2jsp to become even MORE rich each ladder. One-time investment, many weeks of botting profit. And the differences between rich and poor deepen.

If you want ladder runewords, you can simulate it by gathering the resources and when you have them, throw them away and buy a ladder runeword from your resources which should be plentiful on NL and average ladder runewords aren't that expensive anyway. Diablo is a completely different kind of game than WoW. Regarding ladder resets on WoW, I guess a lot of people would appreciate a realm which is divided into a part which gets reset regularly and a static part where everything pours in. Who knows, maybe Blizzard will do that when too many people are wandering off from there.
IMO you are complaining about something you got for free. You didn't have to pay anything for 1.10. It wasn't just a patch, it was an expansion. They added things to the game which were not part of it when they released it. You take that gift for granted and from that position you criticize that you have to to decide which part of the 1.10+ benefits you want to have, making it appear as if you have to give up something which has always been yours.
People like starting over from scratch, at least many of those those who are still playing it. Perhaps you cannot understand it, but in that case I cannot help you.

well ofc Krischan's points are valid too. I never played NLD but checked the arreat summit and it seems you can do ubers/dclone there as well.
But.. not all ppl enjoy the idea of "fighting for first shako", Krischan. It quickly gets old and tiresome. Especially that you see ppl running in perf gear day one. You can just ignore them and simply play but..
but why to reset ladder for it? You can get the same effect by starting a new char on the existing ladder and playing it the way it was meant to be played, no grushes, no ut exp etc. When the "all guys are equal" idea obviously fails every ladder, why to bother..?
in other words, the ladder reset is IMHO redundant and annoying to the point of making me leave d2. It would be interesting if it had a 1.12 patch included that would do the things community screams for years (nerf lammerdins, do something with bots, disable rune cubing, etc) but otherwise.. it's just what we did a year ago, again, and again, and again. And it makes the year spent playing this game a wasted one.

You are vastly overstating the speed that dupes become common place. It will be months before everyone is running around with shakos and enigmas.
And no, you cannot simulate joining a random pub game at level 1, with 7 other level 1s, and playing all the way through act 3 together, giving each other useful items that you have no use for, no one with any gear. Watching your position grow on the ladder.

Grow? I thought it rather goes down fast, not grows. You can get high pos for a couple days.. after those, baalbots running 24/7 will beat you anyway.
Geez I wish there was a patch. There is no point in ladder when everything is taken by bots.

I hate to break this to you, any amount of time you spend playing D2 or any other game is pretty much "wasted" already.

There is a difference between when you play a game and end in a sense of accomplishment, and when you play a game and are forced to repeat everything you've done for the last 10 months because you failed/game crashed/they reseted the ladder. At least for me. It's like being forced to play the whole level in arcade game the second time because the game crashed at the very end of it and they haven't introduced a savegame option.
