Crafting low-level items with low-level characters

Is it worth it? No, you can only start to use the items at a much higher character level (14 seems to be the minimum, in line with the formulas for the requirements as given in both the Strategy Compendium formulas article and the in game item altering guide), and by then you're likely to have found more interesting rares. In addition, since you need to twink on a horadric cube to do this, you're already playing twinked, allowing for much better items to be muled on as well. Nevertheless, some item might be worth using, but most crafting recipes require items from higher tc's.

Nevertheless, since I noticed one thing that I was 99% sure about that it was incorrect (since I thought it would most likely lead to a crash or other weird results otherwise), I did give it a try. The thing I was quite sure about to be incorrect was the formula listed on both the Arreat Summit and the guide to altering items in game, as linked to in one of the stickied posts at the top of the forum. Those sources both say that nlvl=[0.5*ilvl]+[0.5*clvl], where [...] means rounding down to the nearest lower integer (nlvl, ilvl, and clvl are respectively the item level of the crafted item, the item level of the input magical item, and the character level of the character doing the crafting). This formula would of course yield an nlvl of 0 when a character of level 1 does the crafting on an item of level 1. I expected however that the correct formula would be nlvl=max{1, [0.5*clvl]+[0.5*ilvl]}, since I thought there would be a minimum item level of 1 in the game (according to the Arreat Summit, all possible magical affixes have a level of at least one, since a crafted item gets at least one random affix, this would be impossible if the item level were to be 0)

Of course this nitpicking did not require a separate thread, were it not for the thread containing the guide to altering items to be locked.

The ilvl 1 item weres collected by one character in the normal Blood Moor and some in the Den Of Evil (I think), and then muled off to a new character having yet to start out doing anything. The latter did the crafting after gaining runes, gems and jewels from stashes.

Anyway, for those interested, here are the results I got (I tried at least one of each type):

Think the real problem with craft twinking is that the required level for crafts is much higher than most items due to the +10. This makes them pretty easy to beat by most uniques, rares, magicals or even simple socketed items early in game. A good cube recipe to make blues with, is the three chippy + any weapon. I always burn my chippies saved in Act 1 on this to make a good poleaxe for my merc when I'm playing untwinked. Toss Ith's, Tals, Saphires into the sockets for great effect. But there are some nice possibilities with crafting for lowish-mid level characters. I know that for LLDing a lot of the sought after items were crafted (ie belts with: FCR, FHR, str, dex, life, mana and life replenish). But I'm not sure how these some of these PvP mods work for PvM.

The Stone Loop ring looks like a pretty good twink for a baby sorceress. I might try making one of those.
