Coming HC in 2007

Hey all!!!

I'm Aerwynd, and I recognize a name or two here in the HC community, so a couple of you may recognize me. I've been around the SPF/SPTF since Jan 2006. I've played exclusively SC w/ just a couple of HC tourneys. Had to restart a couple of times due to trading with people who have 'not played the game correctly.'

Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself to the HC community. I will still be running my SC chars for tournaments and when I need a break from HC, but I will be concentrating mostly on getting my first few HC deaths out of the way and getting a couple of chars built.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask...

I don't see why you wouldn't be allowed to post this here. This forum is not dedicated to just battle.net

HC and solo play are not mutually exclusive, there is certainly that option, and you're free to discuss it here. Welcome! :)

When I post, I will make sure everyone knows I am SP and not on the Realms...
 
Not necessary to let us know that you're single-player, this is a forum for all things Hardcore, but mostly it's a community. We will always give our time and information freely to anyone who needs it, we don't even chase off the SC players when they ask intelligent questions :)

Your posting career here is off to a good start, no flaming/trolling/leetspeak in sight, so I for one wish you nothing but the best as you journey through hardcore. Heck who knows, maybe we'll be so witty and charming that you'll feel the pull of the realms and come join us.

Hopefully we can show you that the realms aren't just the dupers and the scammers.

Heh, I don't have time for the realms... I have a wife, 2 stepkids, and an 8mo old to occupy most of my time. I used to play 3-4 hrs a day minimum, but here lately maybe 2 hrs a week...

I've tried battle.net before, but lost all my chars because I couldn't perm them in time. Mostly because my internet connection was up and down so I couldn't log on to play. Thus, I went SP so I could play with my chars anytime I wanted.

Yeah, I remember my first glimpse of battle.net. I just joined the game and a person came up to trade with me and put a charm with a thousand mods on it... I said TY and went on. Well, then came the PKers and that ruined it for me. I wasn't mad about losing my gear, but someone was generous enough to give me some gold (100k IIRC) and he guarded it. Oh, it sucked. So I never logged in again.

Who knows, I might give the realms a whirl. I would be (correct me if I'm wrong) US East LOD... Something like that.

LoL, and as far as "1337" speak, I think the only thing I do in "1337" language is n00b... I just like putting it that way... No I don't do "j00l" or other variations of words (normally anyway) besides n00b.

Hello Aerwynd and welcome to the HC forum! Glad to see some SPF'ers are coming to explore.

You will notice a few differences between here and the SPF:

1) More sillyness.
Most of the people who post here are friends from way back, and have been playing HC together for years. They don't actually play the game because of the game anymore, they play the game because of their friends. As a result a lot of them have "been there and done that" so you will see lots of inside jokes and less D2 stuff then in the SPF. This does not mean that they don't know what they are talking about! If you ask a question here the advice given should be seriously considered... even if it is delivered in a silly, or abrupt manner.

2) Less posts
There just isn't that many of us! And with the recent events we are even fewer. So be patient.

3) More opinions
I don't know why, but everyone here often seems to be more opinionated about what is right and what is wrong. If you ask a question don't be too upset if someone just flat out tells you that it wont work or that it's wrong. It's not a personal blow, it's just what they think. Usually they will explain why and tell you a better way but if they don't, make sure that you ask.

Anyway, as long as you are reasonable and have half a brain you will get along fine here, and knowing you from the SPF it's obvious that you fit both criteria.

Hope you enjoy your HC experience. Don't take your first few deaths too hard. What are you thinking of making as your first few characters?

The only thing I might have a problem with is #2... I have like 6 hrs at work with nothing to do but monitor the forums and it's nice when people are logged in and can "chat" in "real-time." But I'll get over it... That will give me time to work on character development while I wait for the answer...

As far as my first few chars goes, I'm thinking about a Blizz Sorc for MFing since I'm starting from scratch and they say (SC though, is it different for HC?) that a Blizz Sorc can MF well without all the elite gear that other Sorcs need. I want to try and re-create my Fury/Fireclaws Wolf in HC, mainly for the fun factor he brings... Another fun build I've been working on is a 'Passion' Enchantress... Using Zeal from 'Passion' with all the Fire Dmg from Enchant, but that will come later... I'm afraid my Cleric probably wouldn't be viable in HC. But we'll see how things go :thumbsup:

Unless you're VERY familiar with llamas or Carebears. If that's the case, I guess you can stay a while.

I'm glad you're approaching hardcore with such a great attitude! Knowing your mortality and its limits is a good foundation for a healthy HC career. I'll agree with either a blizzard sorc or an orb/tk sorc for your first character, as it's what I always build, but that's just my personal preference, as I love sorcs. If you do move to the realms, add LuckyDwarf- if you're on east. I don't get on much, but a friendly hello is always in order if I see you on. :)

Keep in mind, that although the HC forum is not strictly b.net, most of the posters here do play on b.net, so if you ask for build advice it might end up being assumed that you play on b.net rather than SP unless specified.

That said, most people here are also quite capable of soloing their way to Guardian, so it's not that we can't give SP advice, it's just not necessarily what you'll get without specification. Kind of like how if you ask for a sorc build on the sorc forum you won't get one that applies to HC play.
