Coming back.... (wtb advice)

Took a world of warcraft vacation, got myself 2 lvl 60's, wanted to come back... A few questions...
1. TPPKing still around? *sigh* if it is
2. Which realm should I roll? Where is there a decent community and hopefully economy not full of dupes =/
3. Character selection? I'm guessing there hasn't been any huge changes since I left, I left about a year and a half ago. Usually I play blizzardressess or meteorb, or a hammerdin. I'd love to try a new character though. I really enjoy the game a lot more when I'm playing an overpowered character, so sue me. Sorcs are a little too vaulnerable to my liking.... soo I guess i'll go hammerdin? kinda bored of playing them tho, so I'd appreciate suggestions. Something thats not totally gear dependent and can throw on some MF would be cool. (although I remember Key running was just about as proffitable as mf runs...) Anyway, done rambling. Any suggestions are welcome.

edit: to clarify I do plan on getting all the way through hell mode (game doesn't really start till hell anyway imho)

Javazon? Trapsin? Good survivability, can kill well. I'd choose a Javazon over trapsin though because Javazons can absolutely demolish individual bosses with chrarged strike.

I've tried both of those softcore... Aren't they both pretty useless against lightning immunes? If TPPKing is still around I'll need to be mostly soloing

Advice eh?
WTB/WTS are terms used in games in which gold (or whatever) is actually meaningful. We use ISO/FT round these here parts!

1) TPPKs are plentiful.
2) They all suck so far as I know, east is where most of the forum folk here live, but it's lagtastic and infested with dupes too. I'd assume Asia 1 is relatively free of dupes >.>
3) No, no major changes. Whatever worked then still works now. And no, Trappers do not generally have many problems with LIs unless the ONLY things nearby are LI... DS is essentially a 2nd element. Javazons can go LF/FA, or they can just jab. Jab works quite well really. Obviously you don't want to play either of them in areas heavily populated with LIs, but that's not too big an issue... E/S/P, Pits, and CS are all very runnable.

From one ex-WoWer to another, I'd like to say that it is refreshing to play a game where I don't have to sit at the computer for 10+ hours raiding. With D2, if something comes up, just leave and do that. With WoW, it's just a nonstop grind. Grind for reputation, grind for pvp honor, grind for gold, grind hours for raid items.

They are both great games, but great in different ways. I love D2 for it's "hack and slash" playstyle and the replay value proves what a great game it is.

I mean let's face it, when you own every instance and everyone in terms of PvP on your server already, it's time to move on. That's how I made my decision, especially when after looking at the The Burning Crusade notes, I knew I was not going to play TBC. Reminded me too much of D2 expansion and why I quit that long ago upon its release.

Having ranted....to the OP, are you planning to play classic or expansion or what??

TPPKing still around?

Sure is. It's everywhere.

Which realm should I roll?

What do you plan on rolling? Oh! Yeah, USEast probably.

Where is there a decent community and hopefully economy not full of dupes =/

There isn't.

Character selection?

Not much has changed PvM in the last year and a half. I'd say play whatever you're good at to start.

although I remember Key running was just about as proffitable as mf runs

Not any more. People just dupe the organ sets now, so key running is basically a waste of time unless you plan to use the keys yourself.

Character selection?

I highly recommend a trapsin if you want to play an overpowering char. Once you have a powerful LS trap and insight merc they demolish everything until you encounter light immunes in Hell. It gets a lot harder in hell where LIs abound and you have to modify your play to deal with them.

At level 27 you should have an effective LS trap and lots of mana from an insight merc. Lots of skill points in the LS synergies and as many +skills as you can dig up from equipment well make your LS very effective. These traps consume a lot of mana which ca n prevent you from using them effectively. An act 2 merc with insight and increasing the size of your mana pool with charms and gear will provide all the mana you need to cover the whole game with traps. You should have 5 traps active with every encounter with the bad guys and each will do lots of damage. You will romp through all but the LI monsters.

Further more, the traps can kill monsters off of the screen or around corners while you remain safe. I generally drop 3 on the edge of the screen, then advance to those traps and drop three more on the edge of the screen again. If the traps fire then stop and wait until they stop, or burn out. If they burn out keep 5 on the edge of the screen until they they stop firing because everything is dead.

If you can make 1 of the 3 traps an DS trap so you have 4 LS and 1 DS trap active all of the time. The LS traps will make corpses and the DS trap will explode them and inflict huge damage on nearby monsters.

Once you reach hell you will have to change your tactics. I through out my insight for an infinity pole as it will break immunes and let you kill most LIs with your traps. This is very expensive, but optimal for a trapper. The alternatives are to have a godly merc and SM and provide lots of support in the form of fire ball, DS, martial arts or mind blast to deal with LIs.
