Collecting tips and tricks for completing the game as fast as possible.

Hi, I'd like to later on create a guide (unless someone else wants to) which tells good tips and tricks on how to, if not speed run the game, then get through it faster.

Often either many segments of game play becomes too much of the same, or you know you're just playing to get to use some specific skill, or you're actually not interested in playing the game, but sees it as you're on a quest to reach diablo as fast as possible to free the word of his terror, like you'd in the real world.

Non the less I'd like to collect all useful tidbits of tips and tricks on how to speed run the game in this thread and later on write it down as a guide.

All things are welcome, also stuff like taking breaks increases survivabillity and focus, etc.

Examples of tips and tricks:
Spawn a map where there's an experience shrine close to the cold plains waypoint, this way everytime you restart the game you can get an experience shrine from the beginning. (Just play normally to cold plains, then when you get the wp, check the area around, no experience shrine close to, you can respawn the map by making a tcp/ip game I believe).

Buy a teleport staff in act 3, for fast teleporting, buy lots of these, don't recharge just buy new ones when they're out of charges.

Certain levels to be in certain areas for good experience, which means level required before going to the next area, etc. (for example I believe you've to reach level 25 somewhere in act5 normal otherwise you won't get much experience).

Optimal player settings compared to damage done, for optimal speed. (Players1-8)

Good skills to use and stats to aim for.
For stats could be mentioned 25 strenght for scepters, other good items to use are early are javelins and from level 6 poison potions can be very good.

Of skills can of coursef fire blast be mentioned, but also stuff like fissure etc. A whole collection of skills for each classes that're good for this purpose would be nice, for example a Druid as soon as he gets fissure can clear areas very fast, but before that, he has no area of effect damage, what would you do?

Stuff like this would be really awesome to get collected, no matter how small a tidbit it is (for example using shift to get potions down, filling a town with minor health potions so when you tp forwards and back you won't have to run that far, when to gamble for increased speed boots, trippe (20-30%) res gloves, boots and belt, etc.

So basicly all suggestions you think is relevant are welcome :)

Re: Collecting tips and tricks for completing the game as fast as possible.

A few things I've found really speeds it up (if not in time then in fun, or worst case how long time it feels like it takes).

Twinking chars from level 1 - this is a huge one. Twink and run on /p8 and you'll see those level fly by.

If you're a sorc then start teleporting past the boring streches and stay on specific places for xp. For myself this is Mephisto, Pindle and Baal in normal, Andy, Mephisto, Pindle and Baal in nightmare, Countess, Andy, Mephisto, Pindle and Baal in hell. Teleport through the rest basically and only do the quests that are worthwhile / on the way. Worst case you can always go back and do them later.

Run them on as high /p-setting you can (except for Countess if you're after runes, if not then move on to Andy instead) and when you start seeing the xp gotten grow less, move on.

Thanks Stryfe

Though I was thinking untwinked, I see no reason to make limits, everything goes.

Another thing I just remembered, a cube recipe that is very good to use early on is the diamond (any kind) + staff (any kind) + kris + belt for a savage polearm to your act2 merc. Getting this helps him quite a lot with the damage dealing and if you happen to get something he has to low strength to use, buy 2 socketed helms and 3 socketed armors put amethysts in them, and try rerolling the polearm with 3 chipped gems, as it'll also get a socketed that way, which you can use if to put skull in or something to lower the requiretsment even more.

Giving an act2 merc a great stick early can really help a lot, especially if your AoE attack that you've been using have started to loose it effectiveness and you're still a couple of levels from your main skill.

A good merc and a staff with teleport charges can make it rather easy to take down strong mobs quickly.

Re: Collecting tips and tricks for completing the game as fast as possible.

First of all most shrines are random regardless of map, especially experience shrines. Plus I think it is frowned upon to spawn a map each new character using a seed, which I think you were trying to say? Not sure about what you mean though, but cold plains is always a one pass so see no reason to redo it for an exp. shrine.

Might have misunderstood though.

As for tips I suggest running through all outdoor areas in act 5 without killing much except bloody foothills. Atleast in normal as both enemies damage output and exp reward are quite low. And those teleporters really suck chasing around as a melee.

You're right, it's random, all I meant was that when you get to CP and you want an experience boost, as this is one of the best areas together with stony field, the cave and burial grounds (unless you use some skill pretty overpowered compared to your level) to kill fast and still get good experience, it's in these areas you often hit level 6, which is where a whole new section of skills are possible, and also poison potions, which are very good to use, as you then get some AoE damage. After that it's just about having a good amount of poison potions, stamina potions, any kind of possible speed boost and then collect monsters in the highest area where you get full experience and take them down via 1-2 throws, for fast and safe levelling, which prepares you for later tasks to also be pretty fast.

That's all I meant. :)

Of course if you aren't lucky the first few rolls (to get a shrine near the wp) then it's not worth it, as this is about saving time. When you get the shrine near the wp though, it'll for all games from then always be worth it to check that (and any other case of shrine near waypoints) place as you might get an experience shrine.
