Champion Breanna - Blizzy
Hey all, I just Champ'd my Blizzsorc and I'm a bit proud of her, so I thought I'd do a lil' bit of a writeup. I know it's not really anything to shout about, but I'm going to write about it anyway and there's nothing you can do to stop me!
Backstory
For the past few days I've been playing on Ariel, a Blova sorc. I'm still quite new to D2 and short on runes and the more useful exceptional/elite uniques, so I hoped Ariel would be able to kill two birds with one stone, running both Hell Countess and Hell Meph. In my attempt to be multipurposed, Ariel sort of fell short on both fronts. She can run both Countess and Meph with her current gear, but she dies quite frequently and her merc dies almost every trip. It was still fun, but I really wanted something a bit more efficient. And so, about 8 hours ago, Breanna was born. I was going to put up some pictures, but it turns out I had Screenhunter set on Alt+F10 instead of Alt+F11... :whistling:
Alittlebitfurtherforwardstory
I was eager to put Breanna to work at Mephisto so I twinked her heavily right from the start, with emphasis on faster R/W, then on mana and FCR once she was able to teleport. Normal was pretty straightforward, Bre just ran flat out past everything to the beat of The Prodigy while spamming static field. She only had one death in Normal, to Diablo's Big Red Laserbeam of Death. I thought Bre could teleport to safety once she'd cast just one more static, but I was still in Ariel-mode, who has considerably more FCR than Bre.
Breanna became a Slayer at clvl 31, lower than any of my other Slayers. This got me thinking... since Bre was twinked to the teeth and had teleport... how early could she become a Champion? And so, with Hell Mephisto almost in sight, Breanna turned up The Prodigy a couple of notches and began to rush through Nightmare.
To be honest most of it was pretty uneventful, just a lot of teleporting to all of the quest locations, but the idea of getting a such fragile character to Hell so quickly was enough to make it pretty exiting (for me, anyway :grin
. There were a couple deaths from blind teleporting into manaburn bosspacks, but other than that she was surprisingly safe. The act bosses were quite fun, static field + blizzard + teleport = easy and safe boss slaying. Ilzan the HF merc was dying all the time, so eventually Bre just used him while teleporting for his Insight stick and left him on the floor when she had to actually fight something.
Breanna reached the Arreat Summit at clvl 37, having killed only the quest bosses from acts 1 to 5. The Ancients were pretty easy too, once Bre managed to split the two meleers away from the thrower. After that it was just a case of teleporting over the top of the meleers and leading them through a blizzard until they died. The thrower (Madawc?) was kind enough to stay still in the blizzard while Bre ran around dodging axes.
Then as The Ancients fell, tragedy struck. There was no "chrang" of a new level. The gates to the Worldstone Keep did not budge. The quest log for Rite of Passage read a depressing "You cannot complete this quest in this game". So, Breanna tried again. The Ancients fell once more, but once more she could not pass. Worried, I jumped online, hoping that she'd just forgotten to do some part of the questline in her haste to kill Baal. Nope. I checked the Wiki for suggestions, and it said that one cannot collect the reward from Rite of Passage in Nightmare unless they are above clvl 40. Apparently unlocking the Worldstone Keep is bundled up with the big hunk of experience as the reward, so Breanna was forced to run Eldritch and Shenk to hit level 40 before facing The Ancients a third time. This time she was awarded her free level and granted access to the Keep.
Baal's throneroom annoyingly spawned Stygian Furies (cold immune) the first two visits, then got lucky on the third. Achmel spawned CI as well, but after about 15 minutes of resurrecting Ilzan and watching him do negligible damage, Breanna just led Achmel out of the room and moved on to wave 3. The last few waves toppled easily to blizzard, but gave Bre two more levels, putting her at 43. Baal himself wasn't too troublesome, static field worked like a charm then some dodging and blizzard finished him off safely.
And there you have it! Champion Breanna, the hopefully-soon-to-be-lucky-MFing blizzard sorc! ^_^
