CD key and installing issues...

gahhhh, i was so excited to play some D2...

Anyways, I'm done DLing the battle.net thing, and i choose the install option, and it asks me for my CD key, and I typed it in flawlessly (trust me, i tried 5 times, it doesn't work), and I keep getting the message "The CD-Key entered in the Diablo II field was invalid. Please make sure that it was typed in correctly."

I'm not going to post my CD key on here, but I notice that the format it asks me in is "XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXXXX" while mine is "XXXX-XXXX-XXXX"

is this the root of the problem? What can I do to make it work? I completley uninstalled before doing this, and I assumed that this would clear my CD key. The weird thing is, when I was registering on battle.net, it accepted these keys with no problems.

And this is still D2 classic, I haven't even gotten to LoD, and I bet I'll get the same problem.

(I'm installing using the battle.net version since some of my discs are scratched/broken, so I can't install the conventional way)

EDIT: yes, I sent the support team an email.

Re: CD key and installing issues...

Go back to your battle.net account and go to the account manager. Click Manage Game under Diablo II and it will take you to a page with the downloader and it will have your new CD Key written all big on the page :). They convert your "paper" cd-key into their new digital key.

It's not something you really think about. I almost closed out the tab before I saw it myself. You just click "Download" assuming your keys are gonna work.
