Bow or Java?

I don't know if i want to go bow or java.. can anyone tell me the advantage and the disadvantage of the two? All answers are welcome ^^

IMO pvm and pvp chars don't mix, chars should be either one or the other.
My personal favourite for pvm is a faith strafer with titans on swap.
skills should be:
20 points strafe
20 points valk
20 points lightning fury
20 points charged strike
that then leaves you with a few points to put into various pre reqs and useful passive skills, the use of faith means you won't be having AR troubles so don't invest more than one point into penetrate and lightning skills don't require ar to hit.
Very effective build for pvm, i also like using an act2 might merc wtih a reapers toll weapon for added survivability.

The physical part of the attack does but the lightning hits regardless.
Not really. Most of the lightning attacks operate differently from each other (exception- Charged Strike and Lightning Strike).

  • Power Strike = Physical portion *AND* Lightning portion both depend on an AR check.
  • Charged Strike, Lightning Strike = Physical portion depends on an AR check, the lightning portion (Charged Bolts or Chain Lightning) is autohit.
  • Lightning Bolt = Lightning portion is autohit. Since it converts all physical damage to lightning damage, there is no physical portion.
  • Lightning Fury = Both physical and Lightning portion are autohit
As you can see, even if your AR was 17 and you were level 12, Lightning Fury would land its physical damage 100% of the time. This makes LFury a great tool for leeching when you have brutal AR, because it always hits, always deals physical damage, and always leeches. This also means that Lightning Fury is a decent way to take down Lightning Immunes, since its physical damage is exactly like the physical damage from a standard throw, but it costs some mana and is autohit.

Anyway, as for whether Bowazons or Javazons are better... personally, I think Javazons are much easier for PvM. They're more powerful, and they can be built with much, much cheaper gear (you could honestly kill in Hell with no weapon except for a Cracked Javelin). They're perhaps the best group killers in the game (thanks to Lightning Fury)... and they're also perhaps the best single-target killers in the game (thanks to Charged Strike).

With that said, Bowazons are very fun, and Guided Arrow is the 'zon's best PvP skill. Make whichever 'Zon-type you think would be a bigger blast to play. Or you could always make a Hybrid, too. There's Lightning Javazons with 20 points in Strafe, there's Freezing Arrow Zons with 20 points in Lightning Fury, and there's Multi/Strafe-zons with 20 points in Lightning Fury (the 3 most popular hybrids).

Even if you make a Lightning Fury Amazon, my favorite trick is to keep a 6os Long Battle Bow stuffed with 6 Perfect Sapphires on switch, and to put one point in Freezing Arrow. Firing of a Freezing Arrow with a 6PSaph bow will freeze targets for a whopping 5 seconds in Hell (20 seconds in Normal, and 10 in Nightmare), without requiring a single other piece of gear. Very handy against tough monsters who are immune to your primary attacks, so you can pin them in place and let the Merc take them out.

Pure Java for massive cowslaughter and overall fast killing, requires Infinity to be 'fully' effective in Chaos Sanctuary and other places. But as SSoG said, you can finish the game with crap items. Slap on non-eth Titans + Razortail and you are good to go.

Bowazon requires a higher budget to be very good, but its maybe the most fun char to play. Alltough a WWS build can be very fun and good with 'low' items.

I would choose: Bow

I strongly, strongly disagree with the Infinity thing. I have never owned an Infinity, and I will never own an Infinity, yet my Javazon can pwn anywhere, anytime.

When you have felt the power of Infinity, you will never go back. Chaos Sanct will never be the same again.

95% of all people on zon ladders and general games are doing javazons so the answeris simple, go java like the rest of the world
it's a simple build (no brain and only a little skill required), destroys everything and is good for noob pvp/pk

bowzons are reserved for us crazy people who still think 1.11 is 1.09, we are wasting tons of resources for our zons only to find out it gets outperformed by almost every cookie cutter out there

thanks for reading, have a good day

I'm not questioning how powerful Infinity is. I understand all about Conviction, and comprehend just how game-breakingly broken Conviction Mercs are. I'm simply saying that Dupewords are never "required".

I've beaten Hell with a Javazon who was completely naked except for a set of Javelins of Self-Repair and a 6os Long Battle Bow (stuffed with Psapphires) on switch, and I didn't have any troubles with Chaos Sanctuary, where she was more than "fully effective". Trust me, Infinity isn't required.

Okay..I have decided on a Poison java/ Guided arrow hybrid for pvp ^^ Thx for all the answers XD
