Best untwinked character pair?

Well... I'm back... AGAIN. I think I've been away for over a year this time and couldn't help it. I was suprised when the squid didn't eat my account. Anyway.

This time I decided to introduce my new wife into the world of LoD. We are both under lvl 30 and I'm setting her up as a lightning javazon while I'm playing as a conc barb. My thought was that she could kill and I'd kind of sit there and pump her stats basically. I figured this would be a pretty good combo for untwinked characters because we have nothing.

Also of note is that I'm playing a "drop mod" from the keep known as volf's or something close to that I forget, really it just SLIGHTLY improves the quality of the drops, more rares really. We don't get on b.net and we just play the tcp/ip games anyway.

So what is a good untwinked combo? The conc barb is BORING and my merc allready destroys me when it comes to killing speed so if there is something better there let me know. I'd rather let her keep her lighting javazon and have me switch if I need to or do you think that this combo is pretty good for untwinked in hell.

Also I've played the 1.10 patch but I come back and now it's 1.11b, I don't know what's changed and keep hearing of "uber" stuff and I only know of "uber" diablo but besides that I don't know what's up in the patch at all. So if anyone can help me out I'm here to learn. :D

Sometimes, melee builds that are made to tank can be real boring. Thats just something you will need to live with. As your merc being faster, well, if its an act 2 one, they usually are mighty fast, cause they only are there for their job, they don't care about dying.

Welcome back, I'm rejoining too. And I am also curious as to the new patch changes. Check out the website....

Take care.

Yeah, I can live through the boringness if it's a decent combo. I do need to figure out whats going on in the patch.

Before any suggests a fishymancer I've played that out and don't want to do another one. Besides that I don't want to swarm my wife with all of that and have to explain to her that she needs to attack the slightly different colored ones and not mine. :p

Changes in the 1.11 patch A new Mystery has been revealed!

  • Players of Hell Difficulty Realm games are hereby warned once again, that a series of new and challenging tests await you! The answer lies within Diablo's Bosses, which span across the world from the Den of Evil to the Throne of Destruction...
New Items

  • Added 10 New Runewords.
  • Added new Unique Items that will drop from Special Bosses.
Hireling Enhancements

  • Players can purchase hirelings that are within 1-5 levels below their own level.
  • The rate at which hirelings gain experience has been increased. They should now stay closer to the player's level.
Major Bugs

  • Creating a town portal when corpses or other objects entirely fill the area where the portal will appear in town will no longer crash the game.
  • Skills obtained from runewords created while the item is equipped will no longer disconnect you from Battle.net when chosen.
  • Barbarians will no longer become stuck when using Whirlwind right after Inferno from the unique item Balrog Blade Flamebellow.
  • German, Spanish, and Polish users will no longer crash when the mouse cursor moves over an item that grants an Aura while equipped.
  • The game will no longer crash when selecting a skill granted by a weapon at the same time as switching weapons with the W key.
  • Dying or being requested to trade while changing the key configuration will no longer cause you to get stuck.
  • The "Missile Firing too far" assertion error has been corrected.
  • Attempting to sell a Horadric Cube or a quest item to an NPC by holding Control while clicking will no longer disconnect you from Battle.net.
Minor Bugs

  • Running the game with -install no longer causes the game to be installed as a Windows Service. -install is now ignored.
  • Sometimes the seals in Diablo's lair would not activate. This has been corrected.
  • Character expiration messages have been updated to reflect the expiration policy implemented in patch 1.10.
  • Unidentified items sometimes caused other set items to display green for items the player does not have. This has been corrected.
  • The German mouseover text for the Ist rune has been corrected.
  • Account recovery is now allowed for existing accounts whose name is only one or two characters.

  • In Japanese Lord of Destruction, items that add to all Assassin skills incorrectly stated in their mouseover text that they added to all Druid skills. This has been corrected.
Fixed Game Exploits

  • It is no longer possible to bypass the 10-second hostility timer by activating a waypoint at the same time as declaring hostility.
  • A player must now have sufficient room in their inventory to receive the Scroll of Resistance. This prevents receiving multiple copies of it.
  • Uber Diablo is no longer killed when Shenk the Overseer or Blood Raven die nearby.
  • Necromancers with Trang-Oul's Set equipped could sometimes become invincible to attack. This has been corrected.
  • Blessed Hammer no longer remains active while in town, preventing players from subsequently declaring hostility and having the hammers hit other players for damage.
  • Set items retained their multi-piece bonuses after the player died, even though they were removed. This has been corrected.
  • Items with skill-charging effects will no longer give synergy bonuses to skills when equipped on a character without those skills.
  • Pasting from the Clipboard no longer allows the creation of characters with more than one dash or underscore in their name.

I'd have to say the logical choice to escort a Lightning Javazon would be a conviction pali. I suppose vengence would be best choice of skill, but FoH and zeal can also work for you. As for twinkage, I don't really know about the pali, but any character can play the game untwinked especially a lightning zon with the conviction aura running. For your enjoyment, this still might just be one step above a tank. Maybe go with FoH for the funage factor, but remember you're both dealing lightning damage.

Similar logic would also suggest a poison/LR necro, stay away from summons, if the fishymancer bores you.

Alternative, I guess, would be Fire/Cold sorc. While you won't directly help one another, your damage types will complement eachother well.

You could make an Avenger (Paladin), you won't be boosting her life or stats but with a Conviction Aura running she will do massive damage.

Skills along the lines of:

20 Conviction
20 Vengeance
x Holy Shield
One point wonders (Redemption, Mediation etc)
Rest in Resist Auras for synergy

Edit: Pwned

An Avenger could be a nice choice to compliment her lightning damage. I'm not sure that's any more exciting than a conc barb, though.

As for 1.11, nothing changed that drastically for SP. All of the uber stuff you have been hearing about is closed realm only. The big changes are that the synergy bug was fixed, and the FE bug was nerfed. There is a 1.11 Changes FAQ in the SPF FAQ and Guide Sticky with more complete details on what changed in 1.11.

1.11b doesn't change much/anything in single player.

The synergy from items bug has been fixed. Some builds got weaker or less doable due to this. Everything else in single player is about the same.

The summoner, Nihlathak, and the countess now have a small chance to drop special keys (each drops one type of key). On bnet combining all three keys opens up a portal to one of three special areas that have a boss that drops another item (a specific body part for each if i recall). Combining the special items from all three special areas opens Uber Tristam. Where three uber bosses await (uber versions of meph, andy, and duriel, again don't recall exactly). The reward is a +3 to a class's skills 2x1 charm (Standard Of Heroes), with +resists and stats similar to the anihilus charm. Limit one per character.

Each special areas has some extra powerful monsters which don't follow the two immunity cap, so some have 5-6 immunities. The best method is to collect 3 of each key and open all three portals in one game to ensure you get a portal to each of the special areas (otherwise its a random selection of the remaining unopened portals in the game). Then you can open uber Tristam.

Hmm looks like It's same ol' same ol' then since I never used bugs to begin with. Thanks for posting that info. :D Yeah looks like I'm the sidekick since she's going with that javazon. Ah well maybe I can find some kind of godly axe and actually kill something. Maybe I'll make some kind of sorc as suggested above. I've never cared for paly's basically because I suck with them. heh.

I'd go with a fanatic pally. He will ensure fun enough play for you and even though the fanatisicm won't help you wife's damage, it will give her better attack speed. She will probably be the powerhouse of the team anyway, no joy for you in just being a walking aura.

Is your wife really, really enjoying the javazon? I used to play with a real-life friend (on bnet because we never figured out the tcp/ip thing) ... he used a no-build-in-particular necro and I was a sorcie with enchant and blizzard. He did use some summons, which could be confusing for your wife to try to play, but it's really fun to be the sorcie playing "chase the skelly" to enchant him. I would imagine that would work nicely with the javazon, but I don't really know the mechanics of enchant. Actually, I'm not sure it does anything to summons, but it was fun.

You could try out a druid too. Their spirits are very nice for groups (oak sage adds massive life) and they are pretty versatile. If you are set on being melee, you can be a shapeshifter, but there are a lot of good builds. I personally find their fire element skills fun, albeit odd, and it would complement your wife's lightning damage to have a different element available. As always you can introduce summons to your build too (which will be nice for untwinked play, as they will help distract monsters in addition to dealing damage).
