Best class for ladder reset?

Hey everyone Ive been playing diablo 2 off and on for about 3 years and i recently moved from single player to battle net. My characters are on ladder and i saw that it is going to reset soon, so i was wondering what the best class would be to start off the new ladder with. I was thinking maybe a wind druid or a meteorb sorc. It will be mainly used for MFing and general pvm. Also if you could link some builds that would be great.

I guess it all kinda depends on how you look at your goals for the ladder, and how much time you are willing to devote to gameplay.

For example my goal this ladder is to quickly re-build my 2-3 favorite characters, and then start re-building some wealth although this will be a lower priority. Logical choice for me is to start with my Sorc, since with Teleport she can bypass some of the more annoying parts of the leveling grind, and start MFing for some common useful drops for all of my characters.

Then I normally make a Skellemancer Necro with 0 MF to comb high level Hell areas for things like Archon Plates, Eth Elite Polearms, Monarchs, etc. And at the same time I would normally make my 1pt Smiter Zealot, so I can run keys and the Ubers.

The Smiter is the real key to re-building the wealth (thru Torches of course), but I really feel the Sorc ends up being a better first choice to build, just for running bosses to get the gear your Pally is gonna need to survive in Uber Tristram.


P.S. The Build on Sorc isn't super critical, since you will most likely just run her at NM Meph for the time being. Blizz or Frozen Orb or whatever is fine, and if you get comfortable enough with the gear you've accumulated and want to change her to a Hell Boss runner, you have 3 free respecs awaiting you in Act1 so you can look up a build in the stickies and fix any sloppiness =p

Thanks for the advice i think ill go with meteorb sorc because it looks like she would be a good MFer. Also i dont have that much time to actually play so i want to make just one main MFer and she looks like she would be the best.

I have one more question. Would a sorc be able to run ubers or should i just make a pally for that?

Since the Ubers have 95% resists surrounded by multi-immune mobs, a sorceress is very useless against them. Smiter is your best bet.

Of course I will advertise my guide for your first build. It is a necromancer specialising in corpse explosion. It's fun from the start and the best thing is that necro gear is very cheap compared to sorceress/paladin gear at the start of ladder. It's good for MF, too. Im going to just go with a smiter on the new ladder, 0 MF
As pointed out earlier in thread find AP, monarchs etc.
Also whenever DClone appears I can get my hands on an anni.

Fishymancer and Orb sorc will be first for me . Fishy I always start off with and will be for the high lvl areas , Sorc for a little mf :)

I'm going to a make a Lightning sorc and mf places like Countness, Summoner, Nithlatak, Pits, Eldrich and Shenk.

Soon as I get some decent gear, I will move to Andy and Mephisto.

i think that first build isnt so important because respec.so every char have some builds which are very cheap and good for starting.as for me i prefer mf when i kill all monsters in areas not just tele, mefisto many times, so e.g. necro or trapsin with charged tele on switch is enough for me...

I'm thinking of a death sentry + mind blast + fade + shadow warrior + some martial arts hybridsin. Corpse explosion from death sentry is nice and I'll have a paladin and druid backup, so I guess some close-to-close combat won't be so dangerous.

Mouseman your guide looks awesome. I think ill use that because necros are my favorite character but im tired of summonmancers so this will be fun.

Can the explosionmancer be played as one from lvl 17 or do you recomend beating normal as a summoner first?

I will start with a meteorb sorc. It runs andy and meph well, it is a good key runner and it is very versatile.


Then i am going to make a Hammerdin do run chaos sanctuay and do ubbers with proper gear.


When i get enought welth i will transform the meteorb in a lightning sorc and the pally in a zealer.

Necro all the way for me.

The only area where I will have a problem is maggot lair and that act2 palace thing. But I can always find pub games for that ^^

Thinking I'll probably go with a javazon for cow runs. Hopefully get some nice runes/charms and trade for other gear.
