Baal vs. Meph

So what is up with this? When I ran Meph with my Hammerdin I could expect at least one unique/set per run on average, sure half of them would be green breastplates or some other crap item but at least it wasn't a blue Lion Helm or w/e, even though I run Baal at /p1 instead of /p3 I think I should be able to find more gold/green.

Is there a reason for this or does Baal just hate me?

Baal hates most people. He's great though for dropping high lvl items, which mephy cannot drop, although for frequency of good, but not great items, meph should win over baal any day.

The truth hurts, doesn't it? :p

No, just kidding. Baal's known to be stingy at times, but when he pukes up that burlywood sacred armor, you'll forget all about this.

Meph just drops real nice for the most part and with a good map you can hit him quick and hard.

Worldstone has much more difficult monsters for the most part and getting to Baal is trickier and slower and you get less drops per hour ... however, as people know Meph cannot drop the TC87 items. Baal also drops like stingy b*stard too i've noticed where with Meph you're always wondering what he will drop this time.

The only TC 87 item (Grandfather) that I have dropped from Hell Pits so that's why the Pits and Pindle are so popular apart from speed.

If you compared an identical number of Mephisto runs and Baal runs, you'd probably get very similar results: good chances of green and gold items, lots of rubbish, and the occasional good item. The difference is that you can squeeze at least five or six Meph runs into the same time period it takes you to kill Baal once, so the end result is that Meph "feels" more generous.

It's worth running Meph until you have almost all of the items TC75 and below. Meph can drop TC78 items, but his odds are quite poor, so if that's all you have left, its a good time to move on to other targets.

I find Baal's fondness for dropping green double axes and breastplates quite irritating, but the occasional really great drop can make the frustation worthwhile. Since the entire Worldstone Keep is a level 85 area, there is always the chance that you can pick up something nice on the way to Baal. If Baal is annoying you a lot, you can try level 85 areas (like the Pit or Ancient Tunnels) or Pindleskin / Thresh Socket instead. They have better odds of dropping from TC87, but lower odds of dropping a set or unique item.

sorry for the hijack, but this is a related question: what TCs can't meph drop, and where can I find a listing of the 1.10 TCs?

thanks. :)

Baal is very stingy - If you look at the drop calc. in ATMA his chance to drop from TC 87 is the lowest of all TC's.

Compare this to Pindle who's chance to drop from TC87 is better. Baal however has a better chance to have those high end items drop as Lime/ Burlywood.

I've run Pindle thousands and thousands of times and got some great results, it's just as boring as sin. I've started to run Baal now and had some good drops though nothing 'uber'.

My advice: run meph till you get sick of gold Monarch's/ shako's etc, then move on to the act 5 SU's and lvl 85 areas.

Don't forget, if you are trying to do a direct comparision you have to count failed set and unique items. You may see more of these than you suspect when doing runs.

So meph can't drop a Lacerator. Rats!

But the baddies on the way to Meph and the racks next to Meph can
