Awww...I missed you too, D2 - Item Find Thread April 2019

Normally I wouldn't consider an item like this IFT worthy, but this is on a tournament character, and between Normal Larzuk and Hell Charsi, I think I've been shopping almost 15 hours total. Hell Charsi is WAY better, which I would have known if I had just tried shopping on a character that was already in hell just to try it. Charsi always spawns with at least one Tower Shield, and sometimes up to 6! Larzuk on the other hand, quite often spawns with none

I have two perfect diamonds in it now, which maxes my resistances with Fade, so I'll hold off on the last socket

Congratulations!! Now you don’t have to worry about going crazy. Good luck in Hell.

HOOOOOLY SMOKES!

After 1,5 years it finally happened - my first ever Unique Dimensional Shard!!
Crazy shit? Dropped from a normal monster!!!! 1 in 2.94 mio drop chance does the dropcalc say.

It rolled +16% cold skill damage, though :(:(:(
40 fire res and 33 light res to make up for it a little, but... nonetheless. Grail -2 items.

I went down into AT with my sorceress, and one of the first kills dropped a rare amulet. I literally thought, "Awesome! It could either be totally worthless or one of the best items in the game..."

Happy it was closer to the latter end of that spectrum:

2/20 Barb ammy crafting materials came from RFL actually. Took a break after RFL and forgot about crafting those up.
Pindle dropped a great ring for a Trav Barb- every mod is useful for a non-CBF build.

Okay I have a story that I think nobody on this forum will be able to relate to or match. It is extremely unbelievable. So I started HC not too long ago, have a 40ish Druid and a 82 Blizzard Sorc that I finally got comfortable enough with to advance through Act 3, as I really want to get Hell Meph going. My luck has been bad so far with items, but I was able to scramble up some gear that got me around 1100 HP and 90/75/75/75 Resists and a Prayer Merc with a Bec-de-Corbin Insight and decided I would test it out. You could follow my progress on the 'Anything Goes D2 Lounge!' thread, as I have been posting her updates for awhile now.

I got the eye and found the entrance to the Lower Kurast pretty quickly and easily and went and grabbed the WP in LK and went back to find the Flayer dungeon. That was the part I was most scared about up to this point, but I made it through and got the brain. I went back to the LK and thought I would check out the chest situation, as I noticed I revealed one campfire/chest area before I had found the WP the first time. So I swapped the players over to player 8 and killed the monsters around the area where a weapon rack and superchest was. The rack yielded a Superior high end Assassin weapon, but with no good staff mods.

I popped the chest and I saw a orange flash and was quite sure that it had said "Ith", but of course I was going to check it to be sure. I kinda sat there a minute looking at what was on the ground and then teleported out to the side and saw something that was the LAST thing I ever saw coming. This is literally my first popped LK Hell Chest on this character and the first popped LK chest on Hardcore at all (During this particular 2-3ish year Single Player Run I am on since my last hard drive crash).

So has anyone ever found a BER or even any high rune as their VERY FIRST popped chest on a character? Oddly, in my mind I went to do it with the thought of like hey maybe it will be something weird like that. Never in a million years would I expect it to happen though. The LK Map only has 3 chests, so not like I am going to start running it. My main goal is to somehow take down the Council and get to Hell Mephisto, but I just had to share this story. You can run days of LK and get nothing great at all, and then one day you can have something like this happen.

I am using a 4os Gothic Plate with 67 Life, that has 2x Thul, Ral, Tal inside of it, a Lore Circlet, a 3 PDiamond Gothic Shield, an Amulet with no plus skills.. just life/mana/resist/PLR, Ravenfrost (probably the best item I have found up to this point, if you don't count the Ist and Um(put in Duress for Merc, as I had been using a Halberd Insight up until yesterday) I found already), a crappy rare belt, Hotspurs, Magefist…. a below medicore inventory lol. It has felt like the unluckiest run ever with a Sorceress. I couldn't get anything I needed from NM Meph or Hell Andy, so I finally decided to move on. It had been going so bad, that finding a non-eth Bec-de-Corbin for Insight had me excited yesterday, even though it only maxes out at like 290 damage. I had to use my first and only Um on a Duress for my Merc, just so he could kill cold immunes slightly faster, as he was doing hardly any damage and dying easily and I didn't feel like I could afford to lose Prayer for Might just quite yet and I didn't want to lose my great AT/Andy Hell map yet. But I really can't complain now, can I lol.

Since I have so far decided to remain untwinked on Single Player and don't have much in the way of items for my Sorceress, but now I do have a Ber and Ist, I may make a CoH for her. That would be a huge boost and allow me to change up some other gear for more damage. I don't even have a CoH on softcore, I went for other items, including Enigma first and use a perfect Um'd Vipermagi as my "best when not stacking MF" armor for my blizz sorc on SC. Is a CoH a good idea at this point or any point at all, or should I save the Ber and look to get other items like Vipermagi or Tal's Armor etc?

Not sure, but congrats on the Ber! Awesome find!!!!

CoH is a great armor for a sorc, but the others you reference (well, at least Vipermagi) can be found fairly easily and are solid.

I think it depends on what you plan to do with this character or if you will move items to others. Infinity is a great merc weapon for sorcs (and other classes), but an elite base Insight is also quite strong for sorcs. And that Ber is 1/3 of an Enigma if you are thinking of doing some LK grind, which opens up a lot of options for other characters. Unless you are planning to grind for runes at LK, I think it would be worth spending on the CoH, otherwise it will just be gathering e-dust in your stash!

I have seen people advice against using a first Ber for CoH for various reasons, but I'm one of those people who would definitely do so. I have done it in the past (three times actually :)) and never regretted it. If your Sorc is a Blizzard Sorc, it's a 100% yes from me. If it's another one, who needs to reach that 105% fcr breakpoint, it's still even 95% yes ;). Especially given that you don't have fcr on your armor now anyways, so yeah ... just do it, and enjoy :).

Congrats btw. Sick RNG popping that Ber out. I have only found a handful of HRs just questing through the game, so it's definitely a very nice find. My first ever HR was while questing too, in LK even, but it was just an Ohm or Vex from a random corpse.

I'll be honest, I would definitely save it for infinity on this sorc. No question. Coh super nice, but you can always be using vipermagi, whereas infinity is a real gamechanger. That being said I'm sure you'll ahve a lot of fun with it if you make coh :)

I'd advise waiting, personally. CoH is cool, but really only optimal for some sorcs (hey, that's fortunate!) and as a merc armor when you cannot get life-steal from another slot. To me, it come down to efficient use of resources... an 'Infinity' or 'Enigma' will be useful for a whole slew of characters. Coupled with that is that this your first HC run, so anything you immediately put to use on the sorc has a very real chance of poofing into the ether at a misclick...

I say go for it. With that kind of RNG, he should have all of the above by end of the week.

in all honesty, I have the opposite opinion of @zemaj but for the same reasons. Since you are in HC, anything that boosts surviability of your current character should have the priority. Enigma is out since you are sorc; infinity is indeed a game changer, but only the offensive side.

I'd much rather have eth Insight on merc + CoH on myself versus Infinity on merc + some random - albeit really nice - magic armor.

If this was SC however...
Enigma/Infinity >>>>>> CoH. :P

What @Gynli said IMO. :) It’s your first HC farmer so pimp it to the max. If Blizzard Sorc in HC, CoH would be ideal from my perspective. If you consider Lightning (or Fire), Infinity would take priority...

Ofc overall most important RW by far is CtA, otherwise the fun with either CoH or Infinity is likely over quickly. ;)

HC --> CoH is okay because it is not a waste to lose it if you die. Losing Infinity is a waste. #SClogic

SC --> CoH is a merc armor because it's too easily replaced with Vipermagi / Tal's armor on a sorc. I used CoH shortly on a sorc for Travincal, it is 1% better than alternatives for 105 fcr variants.

CoH is one of those runewords that looks great on the surface, but theory puts it aside for nearly everything except merc in some cases. Kinda like BotD, Pride and such runewords.
