Australia gets the Thursdaily first!

Re: Australia gets the Thursdaily first!

RL: I need a new brain...I read the second line of Pyrohemia's post as:
"I'm currently on a break from prison..."
Yeah, I'm a bit tired. I had two finals today and I have one more to go until my semester is wrapped up. Currently, I'm about to leave to go spend some time with my girlfriend.

D2: Ashmer and I were talking about starting up in 1.07 when I get back to play. Hopefully I'll have time to start up again next week. If not, it's smooth sailing after next week.

Re: Australia gets the Thursdaily first!

RL: A couple more online posts and bam diddy bam I'm done with this semester.

D2 (related): I won't be playing today, unless I finish up my school work soon (I'll do that in a minute), but I did manage to get my computer up and running!

TL;DR version
I'm currently using an old 550W power-supply that I was pretty afraid of using at first. Lines are rock-solid though and it should hold until my power supply gets back from RMA

Long version
I keep *everything* technology related, just in case. I have peripherals, internal cables, external cables, software, components, cases, everything in the basement in neat areas and in boxes.

Now, a quick glance down there, only one power supply was even close to being able to power my computer, an old 550W Jeantech that was in my brother's old machine. My computer was built in March and requires quite a bit of power (core i7 920, 6gigs of ram, gtx 260), and I was a little worried about the separate 12v lines (16A and 18A was right on the precipice of what I was comfortable with).

Well, after deciding I'd at least give it a go, I brought it upstairs and realized it only has a 4pin CPU power line, instead of the 8pin on my motherboard. After looking in the manual, the extra 4pins aren't necessary except for extreme edition processors, but I was feeling even more uneasy at this point.

So, I plug that in, put my graphics card back in and realize the power supply doesn't even have a single 6pin PCI-E line, let alone the two required. Feeling even more uneasy at this point, I go downstairs, grab 2 4pin molex to 6pin PCI-E adapters, come upstairs and plug it all together.

Then, I press the power button, and, hazza!, it all works. The lines are all within 10% (the max fluctuation I'm willing to allow, though <5% is what I'm used to) and it survived a 24-hour stress test with no issues. It looks like the most thrown together piece of crap you'll ever see, but it'll get me through the next few days :).

I even soldered together the power connector on my side-fan controller, which it needs because it's a proprietary plug. So, I've got both 250mm churning in some nice cool are again.

Re: Australia gets the Thursdaily first!

@Pyro: Sorry to hear. I've got a funeral to go to this weekend myself.

@mattin: Wish I knew that much about computers. I'd kill for some knowledge. Or at least a competent IT guy.

RL: Day four of work is done. I spent the majority of the day doing the most gods-awful boring work. I was basically zoned out all day and still am. Let's see, the guy who's working on my computer had offered to come over tonight, but he changed his mind and he's coming tomorrow instead. And for some unknown reason, both my GF's daughters are with their fathers, so I got an impromptu invite to her place tonight. Gonna eat first, but then I'm out. I hope my mood changes before I get there. Last time I went I was feeling bummed, so I want tonight to be a good one.

D2/OVG: No good computer, and no time to play anyway. MAN, I'm angry I can't play new stuff yet.

1.13 on the horizon? I'll be interested in reading about what it includes.
