armour and weapon stand running

Hey guys this guy kept telling me that he goes to a "specific location" and clicks on a armour stand and weapon stand and gets good socketed items sometimes even eth socketed. When i asked him where to find that place he refused to tell me lol

He refered to this thing as armour and weapon stand running. Can anyone explain to me the location of this and how this strategy works :S

As far as i understand rack running involves finding yourself a rack which fairly consistently drops the type of item you're after. Take for example the armor rack on the left of Mephisto, sometimes you'll notice that it fairly consistently drops for example monarch shields which are used to make the spirit runeword with, if it does then hitting that armor stand every time you're running Mephi is a great way to create yourself a collection of monarch shields to use. If you reroll the map it may fairly consistently drop gilded shields instead, and if you keep running it it may drop a Herald of Zakarum shield eventually. There are some factors involved in all this though, but there isn't much information to be found on rack running. One of these factors i believe is the way you run toward such a rack, by which i mean that if you take another route towards that rack or get involved in some monster fighting on your way to it, it may instead of what items it usually drops drop something completely different. This is in Single Player though, as the maps are stable there and its easier to take away some of that randomness because if you are on Bnet then the route towards a particular rack will be different every time (therefor it being a lot more difficult to get a consistent drop from it every time).

And to further comment on what Doppel already wrote: Lower Kurast is easiest place to get stable racks. Rerolling the map you'll eventually get a rack that is close to the wp and drops what you want.

When you get a map that has racks close to wp you might experiment on what they drop depending on the route you take there.

oh thanks alot for the info guys
so I should be doing lower kurast and mephisto rack runs?
is there any other place to do this

and its best to do this on hell right?

Depends on what you're after. If you are hunting for elite armors you'll need to do it in hell.

You can hit any of the kurast waypoints for rack running, but the big one people talk about is Lower Kurast since it's possible with a good sorc to speed through the map in seconds and then S&E to do it again.

yaa i've read a little about lower kurast running im gonna try it later on today
i've seen how people keep getting glided shields from the armour stands so is it possible to get a HoZ from the armour stand

and if so is there any armour stand that drops arreats face i really need 1 for my barbarian

Yeah, my first HoZ came from an LK armor rack that was dropping gilded shields.

The other reason LK racks are used so much is because most people pop the racks while running the special chests for runes, jewels, and charms. It's a bit less of an efficient use of your time if you're running just the racks.

Generally, unless you just so happen to find a rack dropping the right base item, I'd stick with regular MFing for trying to collect sets and uniques. It might be worth it for finding socketed items, though. I've been sitting on the runes for 'Death' and 'Oath' without the right base items for a while, so maybe I need to find some zerker axe racks.
