Anything Goes D2 Lounge!

I make all CtAs in Crystal swords, there is no other option.

My Enigma is in a Dusk Shroud, purely because of personal preference (and I just felt like it). If/when I make another one, it will be in a Breast Plate for those non-spirit monarch-wielding chars to save some strength.

Now for the real reason I'm here. I just finished digging up and reading through the old MF League threads (now all listed in the Tournament Listings), is there interest in running one of these events again? I know the forums are way slower now than they were, but the recent MFO had some good participation, I feel like we could get a decent turn out. Especially if we do it as a hybrid between the regular and mini-MFOs (just run over weekends, or less time per category at least).

I'm not saying this would happen anytime soon, I'm not saying I would have the time/know-how/gumption to host it, but I AM trying to gauge interest in it, even if it isn't until a bit further down the road.

Thoughts?
 
Any mods are approved for being talked about here? Except of course the game changing addons. I think I will spicy the things up and check some of them.

As far as I remember, only Eastern Sun and Median XL are allowed. Oh and Hell Unleashed but it's not made for the mod manager I'm using.

I'm making a lot of screens for some Median XL post / review. Should d/l English version of the game from Blizzard as there are some bugs and mismatches in audio and text (the game is in English but all audio still Polish).

I have d/led the English versions too. Have them on external HDD but not installed.

I actually thought about that kind of event, but with more focus on less popular areas (wsk, cs+rof, cows...) Same idea as previous MF league experiences, 2 weeks for 15 or whatever hours available of playing or something like that. Even I would play something like that cuz it seems interesting.
 
I'm thinking of getting a classic character going and wondered if anybody has any advice before I set off? I was thinking of a WW barb with Bonesnap (I played one on HC classic online, but that was a long time ago and not solo play). In particular I am unsure about levelling in classic and which characters can viably run CS on classic.

I'm also open to playing in a different version (I play 1.13 normally) if it will enhance my enjoyment :)

I would definitely be interested in that. I think certain rules and activities might be required to maximise how fun the tournament is (prizes etc), which would then exclude me, but if I am eligible then I will certainly get involved :D
 
WW barbs in 1.00 (except they shun the CS) and bowazons in 1.06b are/were pretty good with the right weapon. Only the weapon choice would likely be a rare pike instead of bonesnap due to the 2H mace bug. (they use their 1-handed damage which is 1-1 and this is not reflected in the LCS)

Damn! Is that just in 1.00 though? I feel like I would probably go for 1.13 unless there were meaningful reasons to go back in time, although I definitely have to do that one day :P Thanks for your input :)
 
I'm playing Median XL (most recent version) with a Sorceress. Made the Level Challenge 0. A few times to get perfect +10 to all stats on the gem. My soso is specialising herself in fire, lightning and mana spells. IDK if this is good but works so far. Pic: a little bug with Immersion (mana spell). Though it was a very weak spell, was wrong. So damn wrong. It gets better when you're losing mana. The closer you are to being out of mana, the better this spell is. Also, tried Lorenado yesterday - funny and quite powerful though a bit random and chaotic. These elite Quill Bears were scary but aren't very hard.

Got 2 uniques this time on the Blood Moor, woow.

Named my Sorceress Agnieszka because that's a name of friend of mine. I also asked her to choose the 2 elements out of 4 :P Planned to go with poison / cold sorc named Das_Modell (after the Kraftwerk song) but I rolled a fire / lightning / mana spells one. :)
 
Does anyone know if the /player setting affects the essence drop rates of Andy and Meph? I need to do some essence farming at some point, and I'm contemplating if I should go with p1 or p3?

@Pb_pal I'm down for Mini-MF-RF-League-Tourney-thingy, especially if it's something a bit more left-field like RoF or Cows (don't really feel like running Pindle right now).
 
@Kitteh Have a read through the first installments of the time travelers vortex and decide for yourself. Some highlights from 1.00 are:

Good
- Easy SoJs
- No penalty for killing Cow King
- HUGE nostalgia factor
- Killer twink equip for classic (uniques have no lvl req, they stay that way if kept in classic)
- Killer rare items
- WW which attacks every frame and ignores weapon speed
- Fixed gambling prices with great odds of set/unique/rare

Bad
- 640x480 resolution only
- Many weapon types are bugged to do less damage than listed
- No /players command, but can be solved with self-MP quite easily.
- No mana potions for sale
- Many conveniences like repair all button, shift-click pots to belt etc weren't invented yet.
- Some items can't drop until 1.04 (where WW and Cow King are nerfed) Including lances.
 
Thanks for the replies everyone! I'd definitely be more interested in doing an "off the beaten path" style event, with more uncommon areas. I'll start thinking about it a bit, but like I said, it probably won't be happening for a while. If somebody else (especially someone with more experience hosting these types of events) wants to take the reigns I'd be more than happy with that as well, feel free to PM me if you want to brainstorm etc.

EDIT: I think a prize system could be good too, as @Kitteh suggested. I know a bunch of us play only self-found, but there are also lots who do not. I'm fine with adding some stuff to the prize pool, although I don't have a ton of high end stuff. Maybe something like an entrance fee (as done in previous ones) of some PGems or something could work.

I saw D2 without glide and 640x480. Damn, never thought that D2 could look that bad. At least 1.14 fixed the glide so no more external wrapper or other programs I have used to have glide earlier (it comes with wrapper and settings need only a bit of refinement).

I will only join some co-ops. Hell, I might even try 1.00 for fun. Also, thought that repair all was already in D2. I am a spoiled LoD-brat then. ;)
Don't know which version is at my discs. Might check it but I doubt that classic would be 1.00.
 
All that "I don't have old disks" stuff is sorted out now =) Anyone with a legit 1.13d or lower install can play any version with ease now, thanks to fearedbliss and his bliss version switcher complete collection.

Ahh... I am using 1.14d for compatibility and glide reasons. I am only using a mod manager to launch Median XL now (earlier I would have to switch off the bannable addon to play with already working glide).
 
Hell Andy dropped Witchwild String and Silks Of The Victor. I badly need that +1 all skills but then I will lose 64% MF. Goldwrap allows me to reduce the losses to 34%. This still hurts. Especially the resists. And I used all Larzuk's free sockets :( I have 84% MF now. And much lower resists. Now they're 45 for fire, 47 for cold, 67 for lightning, 21 for poison. And I can't do anything more except changing charms (I might remove +6% to cold res small charm to get more lightning res in act 3).

Edit: decided to keep Silks. After all I need to kill. And improving my skellies dmg is the best way to speed up things a bit :P They're lvl 29 now. CG too. He can has slightly more than 9000 life. :O
