Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

I've been thinking of making a barb that is basically an anti-smite barb (though of course he could go against most other people, though he might have a rough time against casters with no enigma). I was thinking gear would go something like this (not entirely original, I've asked around a bit in the game):

Ebotd great poleaxe (range five, four frame whirlwind)
Ber'd upped shaftstop (this plus at least a 12% dungos allows for 50% dr with no shield)
Dungos (obvious reasons)
Gores
Bloodfists (open to other options here, they're just what occurs to me. Maybe dracs for open wounds and strength, or the IK gloves/IK boots combo for the nice dual stat and +AR set bonus)
Angelic ring
Angelic amulet
Ravenfrost

The range five on the great poleaxe allows me to completely overpower the limited range on smite. Shift+smite is a popular tactic against whirlwind barbs, but thanks to range five I can hit them and they can't hit me, which works great or so I'm told.

Skills:

20 battle orders
20 whirlwind
20 polearm mastery
20 shout?? I'm not really sure what to put the rest of my skills into, I was toying with maxing shout and putting the rest into maybe increased speed to compensate for my lack of enigma or whatever, but any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm aiming for a level 85-89 end level, 90 if I really like the build.

So any input would be really appreciated before I put the effort into actually making the build.

Thanks guys.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

cham an arreats or a gface, drop the raven.*manditory.
skills
20bo
20mastery
20ww
10zerk-if you can properly work this in to your routine you will destroy.
10shout-it will help for the charge.
i wouldnt worry about running fast, it can weaken ww
i made one to different specs with a Ghoast spear and this is what i would have been better off doing. i only used conc, and zerk would have been more devistating to smiters.
shaft is cool, and if yer beaing beaten around then grab that dr, but the idea is to stay at a safe range and destroy, use a fortitude.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

Why is cbf even needed?

It does nothing vs HF, and smite can't apply cold damage. He'd only be able to slow you via charge, and charge should get destroyed by your range 5 ww.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

Yeah, but bear in mind a pvp character isn't fun if you build it specifically to fight one kind of character (I know, I did a lot of them before), so it's best to have some cbf against other players.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

I agree cbf is handy for maneuverability at times, especially if enigma isn't on your list.

VS pure smiters, cbf wont matter really.

After reading your first post, the build overall looks like a fun PvM build more than a PvP build. Maybe it's because I'm more inclined to damage/grief builds then ebotd/range builds. I recommend Fort ,BerBer CoA , Drac's and full angelics.

GPA sounds fun, but my experience with smiters = range 3 works just fine. (and a TON more damage to boot duel weilding)

Also, I don't see much point in 10/10 Zerk/Shout, since GPA is wicked slow and zerk is interruptable. Besides, zerk has great damage/AR @ base anyway. I'd go 20 Shout to deal with the occasional melee attack (and you still get a great zerk bonus if you wanna mess with it.)

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

versus smite, I like the range 5 gpa, but I also like

2x doom zerkers
enigma
dual angellics (raven in stash)
ber ber CoA
gore rider
dracul's (open wounds)
crafted blood belt

instead of shout, do 20 leap.

leap stomping can sometimes fustrate a noobish smiter and trick them into running at you or charging you, which will lower defence and block => dead.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

Well, as far as your suggestions damric, doom is bm in pvp, and 20 leap instead of 20 shout is somewhat limiting. Also, as far as berber coa goes other than being well outside of the funds I have and feel like gathering for this character, I can get the dr easily with a ber'd shaftstop and dungos when I need it, freeing me up for arreats which is by far a better helm for a barbarian. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the grief/beast build, in part because it's been absolutely done to death. I agree on the one point zerk over 10 points. I think dracs with their open wounds are more useful on a bvc where you may get one or two hits in only to have them run out of reach for a while. Also, ebotd gpa is not as slow as you might think, and when it's glitched on it's fun to see people's surprise when you hit them from so far away and they can't see your weapon. I will go with maxed shout though.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

my BvB seldom has problems with smiters. only those 40k+defence lifetapping clowns really pose a problem. standard BvB gear seems to get the job done. subbing in a highlords+2xravens instead of full angelics (and 'chant from a demonlimb) does wonders for damage, assuming you can hit them.

anyone who thinks shift+smite is going to work against a decent barb should be given a very, very rude wake-up call.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

Well, I think generally prebuff demonlimb chant is also not considered gm, and I also wanted to make a range five barb mostly, so I'd rather not mess with the weaponry.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

Use normal BvC gear with Dracs / Hsarus / Angelic / Enigma and lots of Max / AR / FRW charms.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

acctually dameric is the standard vs smite, granted it is bm.
leap is always affective, i love leap.

just bc this is geared tward smite dont think he is useless, this is mainly a bvb, you would use the same gear if you were fighting a barb with different whirl tacticks.

no enigma, shaft is lame, dr shouldnt be importatnt cuz yer range that yer hopping for, fort.
smiters have buku life also, so CB will have a little affect, ds is more so needed, and ow is lovly, these little dmg mods are the bomb they add dmg after you hit, of add bonuses to dmg.
my gear choices gives 45 ow 50cb and 30ds 10% ow from a blood belt, mine has fhr ed and 50 life and some other so so mods.

those little extra dmg mods really add up, so if yer wanting to have real fun drop that dr, but be carfull how you whirl, range 5 isnt as big of a differance from 2...

what about a doom Threasher, its littel less dmg, 10 average, and im pretty sure it hitts last bp. plus adds 20ds and 25 ow

agreed.

But have you ever tried a pole-style BvC? I haven't, but what I use works and I lol after smiters die when Tap is cast:thumbsup:

Given a duel with a 5 should fair well vs shift smiters, I dunno about the rest as there are more people using tactics all the time. -->FoH and telestompin HF. That's why I can't be bothered with Hsarus, since I'll typically go TGod for the belt for FoH'ers and FRW is very helpful.

I'd say the build, if geared toward smiters specifically, should still carry high light res. In the end, most comments still point to BvC gear/style of play.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

you need bvc rez and bvb dmg,ar,dr. your looking for more of a bvb, high lvl, 89 to be affective. keep in mind, most of the smiters out there have loads of def, especially if they use ebugged exile, and if they are not, they are dumb or hardcore gm.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

Eh, you don't see that many actual smiters using ebugged exile in pvp games, and when you do people usually gang up on them. No tap tends to be one of the more respected rules I find.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

i see lots of smiters using ebugged exile. acctually i use one lol. i feel bad telling yall the def it adds lol. ill just yer 30k ar wont hit very often.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

I killed a pally using ebugged exile with 9k ar. Wasn't hard.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

i didnt say a pally, i said my smiter, his def is well over 50k, you wouldnt hit very often he is mb, and has max dr, his life is over 6k also, he is my bread and butter char, i dont like to talk about him much cuz he is everything i hate.

Re: Anti-Smite barbarian: advice please

imo frw is important vs good i.e. tele smiters, since it allows to get out of their face and back into "clipping range" faster. that makes enigma the best choice imo, even if you have the str to wear fort+coa.

enigma also allows you - since with it you usually dont need the str from dracs/beast to equip coa - to bm those tapping smiters by equipping doomz and/or clegaws (25% slow and kb). while you're at it, try to shop a bo/lifetap knife in act5, or just use a plain lifetap wand (or marrowwalks even if you need some str).

I have to agree, I suggested Fort originally which is good at times... but not all the time.

Enigma and the OP's choice of a 2Hand ebotd sounds like a recipe for kinda low damage to me, but FRW + Range 5 might be fun to try.
