Princess_Diana has killed Andariel. The big ugly chick killed my valk a few times, but it took about three hits to kill it and meanwhile I could place a decoy and plink away with MA. I thought about staying in the main room which had tons of dark ones, and using LF to speed things up but they are just too hard to see and always seem to hit me, so I played it safe and killed Andariel around the pool. My Valkyrie does far more damage than me (she is level 14 now) unless there are many enemies and I use LF.

So far I have quite a few runes saved up, and I am trying to get a few perfect gems (I have one of each, all but topaz and ruby right now) to prepare for some crafting when I get a few levels higher. I lucked out and found a javelins of replenishing, so I don't worry about javs any more. I have now two shaels and two amns and one sol, but I can't find an eth or a tir to make the runewords I want. I also have two poison charms which is great and speeds things up nicely.

I continued for a bit and found the WP in the Far Oasis, which is right next to both the exit to the Lost City and the Maggot Lair; perfect place to stop. I'll do the Radament quest when I swing by to visit Drognan. I'm dreading what three spaces to open up when I find the staff. I've had two tomes of ID since the jail in normal, and I have yet to go below 20 scrolls, so maybe that can give me two of them.

Warnie has progressed through the desert and created a Horadric Staff...whatever that is. A few notable things happened, I finally got my perfect Amethyst and Emerald, so my Wizendraw is now a Large Siege Bow and a good double resist, good life belt has been upgraded to 4 slots.

I finally found a 4 socket gothic armor, which I've been keeping an eye out for a while, which has replaced the 3 socket breast plate (Ral, Ort, Normal Topaz) with Ral, Ort, Perfect Topaz and an open slot. Will either use it for more resists, another perfect topaz (when I find one more flawless), or a perfect ruby, can never have too much life!

I also got a Duskdeep, which helps the resists of course. Dark Elder's pack gave me both the Duskdeep and the 4 socket plate.

I thought long and hard at the stairs down to the Claw Viper Level 2 about lowering the players settings, and decided to leave it on 5 (which it had been since leaving town)...I knew the risks in small confines. It almost proved too much for me. I was careful but the boss was right near the entrance as were 2 revivers. I took quite a beating but was able to kill one creature, go up, heal (luckily I had also found a +15 replenish life ammy, which I would swap to), go down, kill one, go up, heal, rinse, repeat.

Still I had to use 6 precious full rejuvs, leaving me with only about 7 at this stage, getting close to Duriel! At least i have the Arcane Sanctuary to replenish!

The boss viper dropped Spineripper, the unique poignard. I don't think I'll need it, but I have room at the moment due to using the rejuvs, so for the time being it is in the cube.

Hopefully maintaining a decent players setting will stand me in good stead down the road. Wolves and Grizzly are both maxed now and Oak Sage is on 8 or 9. I've changed my mind about bowling and will put some points in Fissure (I think), but I'm still thinking about that one...just in case I get through to regular PIs!

Too bad I'm not playing a frenzy barb. I found a unique Bastard Sword, Giant Sword, and Claymore in the catacombs, none of which I bothered picking up much less scouring the ground for an ID scroll. I also have 0% mf as I use my gear to bring me up to 75% light and fire resist. Almost wish I could go shield/shield for hell...
Other than that, the catacombs was overall a nightmare. I had to bring it down to p3 midway through the second level because I had no more mana pots and tons of boss packs of the lightning ball spitters (amazingly enough all immune to my only attacking element, lightning). Also had several champ packs of carver shamen, and in some cases boss packs nearby too, so I kept laying traps until I exploded all of the little guys with DS, which took way too long. Sitting in act 2 now, debating if I should try and kill radament now or later, and if I should do it all on p1 because I don't like the archers and my shadow master is a complete idiot. I lay down five traps and I see them poof before they get a single shot off, so I try again, but no, she has other plans...

Princess_Diana made it through the claw viper temple and maggot lair (mostly P8, but I dropped down to P1 for level 2 of the temple. Good thing I did because I didn't even see the mods on Fangskin, but I know that extra fast was one of them. Yikes! Lightning Fury through two mana pots and I realized that LE was another mod, but they all went down with getting only one hit on me.) Meanwhile she found an Eth rune, and almost immediately she found a kite shield with 2 sockets, so I now have a Rhyme RW. I also replaced my armor with a 4 socket Full Plate Mail. I run slower but Sander's Boots are fast anyway, so I traded out gladly and used my two jewels (IAS and 10 res all) and a PTopaz, saving one socket. When I am on the Rhyme switch all my resistances are positive, but only lightning is positive when I am on the bow switch. Most of my charms are lightning resistance, and I don't have any resistances on my amulet (MF only) either ring, belt (bladebuckle), or boots (sander's). I guess it all comes from the armor (+10), Duskdeep (+15, I really like this helm) and charms. I do have a +10 amulet that I'll throw on when needed for a little extra boost, but I have the feeling I'll need to either find or cube a shimmering amulet for hell if I get there.

So far so good, I am about 80% of the way from my current level to the next where I will put my 17th point in Valkyrie. I also am good on runes and if I can somehow snag a Lum or Ko on my way through the next two acts (HF) I'll have either Smoke or Harmony, and both would be great. Not sure how early they can be expected to drop normally but I don't anticipate that happening, I never seem to get the best runes.

I also am good on runes and if I can somehow snag a Lum or Ko on my way through the next two acts (HF) I'll have either Smoke or Harmony, and both would be great. Not sure how early they can be expected to drop normally but I don't anticipate that happening, I never seem to get the best runes.

I've gotten a ko from NM andy, and ATMA tells me both can drop in act 1 NM so now it's just up to luck. :thumbsup:

I'm really very glad that those tight areas of the tombs and arcane sactuary are finished, boy aren't they boring. Normally they are bad, but without a might mercenary now they are just downright painful. Thankfully Act III is pretty much open areas, letting Anubis' army spread out and do its thing. Also lets me bring the player setting back up to its rightful place of 8.

Sorry to hear that Installed :undecided:

I decided to have a monster playing session and see how far I could get in about 5 hours. Yes, for me 5 hours is considered "monster". Anyway Anubis ripped through Act III at /p8 and Act IV at /p3. Both the Great Marsh and the second Act IV area (can't recall name) were absolutely filled with Burning Souls. By filled I mean when entering either location Anubis was greeted by a double-boss pack of them. I swear there weren't any other monsters in either beyond one or two small packs. Thankfully lightning resistance was up to 50 and health pots dropped often, but it was truely scary.

Both Mephisto and Diablo were beaten rather easily with countless clay golem recasts and a steady stream of decrify. Anubis can finally raise 10 skeletons, after finding a +1 summoning skill head to replace the previous +3 SM one :grin:

A few notable drops were a Bow skiller, The Oculus and an Um rune from the Hellforge. All of course muled off afterwards. I've been running hell Mephisto for weeks looking for an Oculus, so where does it drop but from a random champion Shaman in Act III, go figure...

Nice work Mursilis, that's a very good accomplishment so far, keep it up! I was actually thinking about this tournament this morning, and as you get into more and stronger boss mods, the true pain of this tournament comes to light. Sure, living off the land is nasty enough, and having no Merc is a massive handicap for many/most builds, but as you get deeper in the game, the inability to TP out of a dangerous situation (e.g. swarmed by multiple extra fast, nasty mod boss packs) is really the most dastardly of the dastardly! Get us a Conqueror at least!

I'm at the Arcane Sanctuary and am planning to probably run all four arms regardless whether I have to or not, so probably won't finish Act 2 for a while.

Will update at the end of the act or if I fall (or get a killer rune drop).

I did have to do all four arms of the Arcane Sanctuary in the end and found the Summoner on the last one. Not a single rune in the trip either.

Warnie has taken out Duriel who barely put up a fight. It was quite a trek getting to him through his tomb though. In terms of charms, I haven't stumbled across the ones I would like, I'm yet to see a single charm with cold damage, so didn't really have any good ways to get rid of skeletons. I had to fight retreating battles constantly, as all there were Unravellers and skeletons everywhere.

The rune luck turned around as I reached Lower Kurast, just before I found the WP to stop for the night, a chest popped me a Lum. That could come in handy!

Mursilis, I don't know if your army travels with you between acts (I think it does) but you might want to leave your computer running when you get to hell difficulty, it'll be terribly difficult to raise an army without a merc (IM and clay golem maybe? Attract?)

Princess_Diana killed Duriel, very handily. A level 17 valkyrie is a formidable companion, and easily recast. I don't think Princess_Diana even used a single potion for that fight. He dropped garbage. But on the way, I did find a double bow, which I used some of my gear on to socket, and it got four sockets. I was hoping for three, but you can't win 'em all. I wanted to make "edge" and get some mileage out of the thorns and valkyrie against Duriel, but I never found a bow I'd want to use for it (other than the double bow). I did keep the double bow, and I inserted the first three runes for the harmony runeword, I just hope now I don't 1) accidentally put something else in the fourth socket and 2) go the rest of the game without finding a Ko. I think I've had three in all my years playing this game... Right now she is dragging around the bow, less the ko, one of each perfect gem (including a skull, don't know why I am keeping that), and a few runes, including one amn, one sol, one shael, and one io, which I'll likely toss out because I think it is worthless in a game like this, but I'll keep it now because of my socketing and filling of some sockets I have some space. The javelins of replenishing are great, and the 4 socket full plate should be gear through the next few acts (30% IAS, 24% MF, plus some energy and mana)

Sure will. I'll almost certainly make a Smoke once I get a Nef and a reasonable enough piece of armour. That'll let me get rid of my poor-man's smoke (Ral/Ort/PTopaz) armour at present and probably get rid of my Tearhaunch so I can start benefitting from the CB of the Goblin Toe (I think) that's been taking up a chunk of my cube for a few acts! I'll miss the FRW though.

I can't wait to get past the council and free up all the crap you have to carry around for Act 2 and 3. I had to pass up a nice 4 socket bow because the Horadric Staff was taking up my switch position, and i'll definitely need a many socket bow before long, because my troops have no way of getting rid of PIs...lots of perfect gems/tal/ral/ort/etc in a many socketed bow might be my only option if/when I get there!

Good luck getting a Ko from the Hellforge mate...fingers crossed for ya!

Nice rune Butz! Smoke is such a nice runeword.

I've progressed Jane_Doe to the inner cloister and lvl 19 now. The lvl 2 plague javelin, complemented by the 10 in psn jav, wipe out the fallen type so quickly it's very nice :evil: . To back up the javelins she has a 3 chipped sapphire composite bow on switch now. She found the bow in the jail lvl 3. The self repairing axe was nice but it just didn't have the bite that it did earlier, and it's so much safer to stand back a bit. No spare pts for MA yet, but 1 pt might go there to be sure she always has a backup plan.
