hello. :howdy:

i just got myself a nice act2 merc, and bought it a bonehew, talmask and shaftstop. that is what i was recomended. however, bonehew req 195 strength, but the merc only has 172 strengt at lvl 79. now, i saw a merc at this level, or a bit higher, with the exact same equipment. so my question is, is: does different mercs in act2 have different strengt? or do i have to level it to the level where he gets 195 in strengt?

Level him basically, or drop a Duriel's shell with a perfect amethyst on him instead of shaft, that works too.
 
Perhaps that merc has an hel rune in his bonehew which lowers its str and dex reqs by 20%. You could do that as well and unsocket the weapon as soon as he has enough strength.

okey.... how can i unsocket the item? and.. im thinking of putting a amn rune it it aswell... will that be removed aswell then?




Is reapers toll a good choice, if not bonehew?
 
Hel+TP scroll+Item = item without sockets... whatever was put into the sockets, it will be gone.

Reaper's Toll is the better merc weapon, except your character wears Draculs or is a necro. In that case, decrep would override life tap respectively the necro curses all the time.

i think im going to look for a reapers toll that my merc can use... then when he is lvl 91 or whatever he needs to achive 195 i strengt, i will try the bonehew on him, and ill choose whatever works best with him!

I have 1 Hel+Amned regular bonehew on my account that I rotate around for when I'm making a new merc. Dont put 2x Hels in because the lvl req for bonehew is 64 I believe, and at 67 your merc can use it with 1 hel.

I have an ethereal Pierre Tombale Couant and an ethereal Husoldal Evo for that purpose, but there are a lot of other good exceptional polearms as well. My merc tactic is as follows:

Use whatever merc is useful until end of normal. Ignore them in nightmare until you are good enough to make solo Baal minion runs in nightmare. I don't do that before L45. Then get the merc of your choice. Give him Gris armor, Vampire Gaze (or Undead Crown if you don't have that helm) and a good polearm. Then do nightmare Baal minion runs until he is L75. Always resurrect him if he is below your level because then he is able to gain levels. You might want to replace Gaze by Crown of Thieves at L49 or by Tal's mask at L61 or 62. If you have a Black Hades armor, replace Gris armor by that as well, as soon as he meets its reqs. Put IAS jewels into the armor. As soon as he is L75, give him Reaper's Toll and your merc is ready for hell mode.

If you want to equip him with shaft instead of a 3 socket unique/set armor, go for maximum damage reduction and don't exchange Vampire Gaze.
