I'm glad that they were banned... does that make me a bad person? :S

We all are, Frozen. We all are.

Well I can confirm for ye now that some of the people with cd key bans did not bot or use map hack. I should know, I'm one of them. :(

Does anyone find it at least mildly ironic how much the non-banned are going on and on about the whining of those who were banned (going on and on...)?

No one is surprised by any of it, I don't think. But of all you cheering about the bnet smackdown, just be sure you're not being a hypocrite who's had a single player rushed for forge (and you could tell, when they were in level 3 of maggots on 14 seconds, that they were), or ever went into a baal run (they're always full when I go, so I'm guessing at least one of you were there), or "bought" items from an obvious magic find sorc.

It's kind of like saying "hooray! they busted the guy selling CD's out of the trunk of his car! what? of course I bought some! I got Episode III on DVD before it was in the theaters! Woot!".

Not that I care on it either way. Many friends have gone poof, but that's the way it shakes out. I just PvP, so don't need it myself (but I certainly have used my share of both bot-run and mh driven Baal runs). I just always get a little irritated when I see someone on their :soapbox: . I can't cheer that they're gone when I took advantage of them and their risks while they were here. Just doesn't seem right.

So--on to season 4, baby!

Oh, and come November, another hack will be on (my prediction of the future--write it down people!), and it'll all be the same. So come PvP with me and don't worry about it!

Thanks for breaking the rhetoric with a sensible post. I'm curious to see how difficult it's going to be for all these pristine and legit players to find decent hell Baal runs now :grin:

who gives a ****...we are just glad that blizzard cleared out the riff-raff.

Now THAT sounds like sour grapes. The good players will do their own hell runs, walking proudly down the halls of the WSK. Since I don't run on Windows, I could never use any hacks anyway, and I got along just fine. There will always be Baal runs where folks have to walk. The good players will continue to make runs. I don't give a rat's hind end about the rest of them.

Maybe the guys who weren't riff raff and have been cleared out? Maybe they'll be a little upset at getting a ban when they've never used a 3rd party program?
Are there many of us I wonder?

judging by the replies to these threads it looks like 1/2 the people who have reported bans did nothing to deserve them. shocking. :shocked:

Caliban, stop talking before your other foot ends up in your mouth. Because it's entirely possible to hit maggot 3 in 14 seconds without maphack if you know what you're doing, and can find the entrance to the lair quickly. You just have to know the maps. I do, and it takes me approximately five minutes longer to do a full grush compared to mhers. The difference? I put the small amount of effort in to learn the maps, and I didn't get banned for my trouble.

As far as rushes, I play with other clean players, and generally don't get rushed anyway. Thanks.

Trading - Meh. **** happens, as far as I'm concerned. There's nothing we can really do about that aside from live off of what we find, which is difficult and leaves you poorly equipped to handle pvp in this dupe/hack-heavy situation. So yes, I trade. But that's the extent of my interaction with potential dupes, and I actively avoid known rares/08 items, because they ARE all dupes. All of them.

Baaling - as mentioned before, I know the maps, and I run baals FASTER and SAFER than the bots.

Superdave - actually, it'd be more like 2/3. And OMG DEY NEBAR BUY BLIZZ GAMEZ AGAIN! Until the next one, of course. And the majority will use whatever hacks they can find for that one, then cry when they get banned there, too. Sad, sad state of affairs.

Now its just for a huge ruststorm, then maybe a ladder reset.

I can hope can't I?

I've said it before... ruststorms don't hurt the actual dupers nearly as much as it hurts everyone else.

Blizzard needs to FIX DUPING. If they don't fix the methods of duping before the new ladder season, the new ladder will be just as bad as the currently ladder is now in a month or two.

I would just like to comment that the number of threads (on this forum and others) crying about deletion is getting almost as high as the threads commenting about the crybabies.

That is all.

Depends if you consider this a case of "ill gotten gains" which would make you guilty party. I personally haven't played for a long time and when I did I rushed myself with 2 comps and ran my own runs since it was quite frankly too frustrating having to deal with public run games being full. Slap on two wiz spikes and an enigma onto my barb and there we go, I tele as well as a sorc and I'm more durable. Later on, add Insight merc for infinite tele.

That said, I personally see very little wrong with making use of the cheaters. We aren't paying them for their services thus aren't encouraging them or benefiting them in any way. Using your DVD analogy, it is infact illegal (as far as I know) to purchase illegally copied DVDs as well as it being illegal to make the copies. Last time time I checked, playing with a MHer in the game wasn't banworthy while using MH was so we're still in the right here. When you pay for pirated DVDs you are fueling the production of more pirated copies and allowing the piraters to continue their business. We do no such equivalent in D2, unless you're one of those people that actually pay for items/rushes with cash/items.

Anyway, this is up to your own moral code to decide if you feel that your hands are soiled by being in the same game as a MHer or something similar. I see nothing wrong with it, so I'll continue to sit comfortably on my :soapbox:

To all of you who got banned:

It's as simple as black and white -- You violated the EULA. It doesn't mean just maphacking; if you don't already know, read the EULA and find out where you messed up.

Blizzard owns Bnet and if you cheat on bnet they will own you as well. There is NOBODY to blame but yourself.

'm curious. If you didn't cheat, then why did you get banned?

Sorry for the delayed response. DiabloII.net has rather slipped down my list of 'must check forums' ;)

If I knew that, I would have stated the (likely) cause.

The only thing I can think of is that I accidentally tried to connect to battle.net while using a mod(Diablo II:Prophecies).

I admit I keep an eye on the hacking/botting scene, but I don't use any bots or hacks(MH or otherwise)

As I've said, there's at least one less developer working on a maphack, now, which is(IMO) well worth my being caught in the ban net.

Just to educate myself, I went and had a read of the bnet terms.

You don't have to believe me but I did nothing to break those terms and yet I got a cd key ban. That means I need to go out and buy the game again. That is unfair and at the moment, I'm not inclined to give them extra money for banning somebody who did nothing to be banned.
So no, it doesn't seem to be as simple as black and white.

First of all, I don't believe you, but ...

Are you sure you didn't:

(ii) copy, photocopy, reproduce, translate, reverse engineer, modify, disassemble, or de-compile in whole or in part any Battle.net software;

Even if you did, you won't admit that you:

(v) use any third-party software to modify Battle.net to change game play, including, but not limited to cheats and/or hacks;

You must be a wierdo if you:

(viii) harass, threaten, stalk, embarrass, or cause distress, unwanted attention or discomfort upon another user of Battle.net or other person or entity; cheat during gameplay, including but not limited to modification of the game program files;

(ix) transmit or post sexually explicit images or other content which in the sole discretion of Blizzard is deemed to be offensive; nor shall you transmit any unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful, racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable content;

Sometimes even if you don't mean to you can:

(xiv) intentionally or unintentionally violate any applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation;

Even if you type too much you can get banned:

(xvi) "spam" by posting or sending more than one unsolicited message or piece of mail to a single address or in a chat area;

Or maybe for things you didn't even think of:

(xvii) create or maintain, under any circumstance, more than one simultaneous connection to Battle.net.

The first step to recovery is admitting that you have a problem.

who needs to find baal runs when so many of us have sorcs and other chars that are perfectly capable of tele to the throne and then kill the monsters there?

To everyone in this thread:

If you have not yet read the stickied Rules thread in this forum, do so now.

Breaking those rules will either cause me to unsheath the Bansword of Kings, or cause Dredd to unholster The Lawbringer.

You have been warned.

Baal runs are ezpk. You just need to know the patterns in the mapping of WSK LVL 1 and 2. Once you know them, teleing to the way down is easy. MH doesn't help at all. There are patterns to every part in Diablo 2. The variations of maps are all the same. For example, the Summoner. You don't need MH to find the right tomb. Just look at the signs surrounding the place where the ummoner stands and the sign thts missing is the right tomb.
