A smiter's question

How do we boost the dmg of a smiter? My pally have zeal of level 13, smite and holy shield of level 28, but the dmg output with fanaticism of zeal is 1xxx-4xxx, while that of smite is just 12xx-14xx. He is using ebotd zerk axe with max dmg around 500, and a hoz shield.

Btw, whats the best, or usually expected dmg for a good smiter using smite? And will the dmg have a significant increase if the ebotd is replaced by a grief?

Thx guys =)

Anything with direct +damage like grief goes. Only a few of such items exist in D2 though.

With grief, I'd say your damage should be over 5xxx if not 6xxx.

The only other solution would be to upgrade HoZ, but since you play non-ladder, you cannot do that.

Crushing blow takes a percentage of the remaining life.
With the Ubers you won't get as much damage any other way.
Well untill they only have a little life left.

I'm really bad with working all the math stuff into it, and correct me someone if I'm wrong on this, but the mod on grief (+340-400 Damage) isn't actually shown as damage on your screen (As in where you punch in stats and see res etc). But you will notice a significant difference when you actually use it.

Is that +dmg on gear like (for instance) Grief applied before or after your Smite damage +%?

The display is also called the LSD (Lying Screen display) or whatever combination with "Lying" wording in, LCS (lying Character screen).
Several type of dmg are not shown or calculated.
Real grief dmg is one of them.

Use this if you really wanna know

a 1pt smiter with full zeal + fana on a Hoz is doing around 4K
a full smiter between 5K and 6K as already mentioned.

No. +max/AR charms and etc adds on weapon damage as well. It's only elemental damage that is added after. The fact that it adds to smite, I don't know.

You mean if I have some +dam charms in a helmet, it'll add onto my base weapon damage?

Wow, I just found out that my smiter does 5036 damage, even with a very low grief (342) and only +6 damage from charms. That's way better than the ~1500 on the LCS. I knew it was more, but WOW! Way to go Blizz...

That's pretty smegging amazing damage... nerf plz.

Not very smegging compared to my Hammerdin's 13K...

You can't have charms on a helmet...... But if you have charms in your inventory, it does add to your base weapon damage (but not for smite, which only +damage works, and not +min, +max, or +damage range). There's a reason why I shove a lot of +damage charms on my bowazon.

The +6 from charms doesn't count for smite. It counts for zeal though.

Even my 1/2 crappy meterob sorc's fireball does over 7k, so it's not like it is that much.

5k is high for a skill that's hardly changed since 1.09.

Yeah, but we all know they're incredibly overpowered...

Oops, for some reason I read that as "jewels".

I must have misread where you initially said that charms added to weapon damage - I was thinking total damage, my bad. Still, it doesn't take away much. Now its "only 4974" with two points left to put into Holy Shield...
