Please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like the focus has been on filling out the grids somewhat randomly, sort of a brute force approach. To me, the numbers just seem to be so outrageous that, even for runewords with a length of 2, it will takea very long time to find one.

I actually looked into this issue over the weekend and came to conclusion that testing 2 socket helmets would be good idea and I burned my mid level runes to do that

Does anyone agree with me that the most promising course of action might be to focus on those runewords which previously had the +25% poison resist placeholder mod, trying to fill out the grids for those runewords in the immedaite vicinity of the original recipe (starting with the original, then expanding outward) ??? Failing that in 2 socketed items, it would seem most likely that these "previously inactive" runewords would use the same 2 original runes, but with a 3rd rune added either to the front or the end.

I did an analysis on this during weekend and I guess I will send the Excel sheet to Wathombe so he can incorporate it to his Master data sheet providing he finds it useful.

Cherokee : There are 1089 combinations with 33 runes in a 2 socket item. 1056 if you dont count doubble runes like AmnAmn, ThulThul. On the wand testing we are over 200 tested combinations.
And since no one knows how blizzard has picked there runewords its just as easy to go through all combinations as to guess a random word.
Thats just what im thinking, and now begins the hard part of the wand testing.

hey all, trap assy is going nice, 5k dmg at lvl 66 and still need to sockit the claws 4 facets....

atm i have a stash full of runes, and like one or two claws and orbs i picked up while baaling. 2 sock of course.

Ill try to be on later today around 5pm to donate them, my dad and i are fighting over the internet...dialup...

if im not on force dom, evilspork, to get them. they are on tooleet4u4 char:runemaster and the claws and orbs are on the trap assy

Despite nice progress with lower level runes and some mid runes it seems that progress pretty much stops around Lum runes and people are not using higher level runes easily. As it was mentioned in another thread on forums unmentioned, there is no incentive for finding new rune words. I do have to agree as most people do not care about if they are mentioned as the founder of a new rune word.

How about we turn each test into a lottery ticket type thing. We could collect a nice pool of donated items, runes etc for each realm. This whole account with donated items would then go for a person who with undeniable proof shows us one of the new rune words. Of course we would need a way to give some periodic "wins" based on just posting test results here with runes Fal+. This approach would probably get lots of more people involved in testing. This idea requires more work though so that we do not get false results etc...

Another this is that we need to get those people with their rollback involved in testing 2 socket grids. They can quite fast fill up those 2 socket grids on upper end.

Cadogan: Very sorry! I'm usually on between 10 and midnight, Pacific Time (3 to 5 in the afternoon, your time, at least until the daylight savings time switch). I was on last night from 10:30 to midnight. Sorry I missed you, mostly questing with raskol.

Ax: Yeah, I had added Adrenaline and Gwaihir-Valar to the cow roster but not the spreadsheet; I've corrected that now. *rrun1 is an alternate account for Ghist. Assume that everyone is softcore unless designated hardcore. *gods_pawn and *phaeax were both very active online and in the thread at one point, but I think school, work, and/or other games have sucked them away, sadly.

Cherokee: As Fragtil points out, we started on the 2os testing because we can be fairly certain that at least one out of 23 new runewords will be 2-socket (even if one or both runes are high), and with only ~16,000 possibilities, it is very feasible for us to test almost all of them, with results obviously getting sparse in the UmUm and above range. The 25% placeholder words are a great place to test, too, it's just difficult to figure out which variable to change. (You may have seen it when reading through: someone did the math for all the possible changes for the 25% placeholder words, and it was surprisignly daunting.) In any event, I am of the personal opinion that the more people we have testing in different directions, the better. When you test something as a possible alternate recipe for Terror/Thirst, please note as much in your post, and I'll log on the "Previous Inactives" page as well.

Ghist: Yup, helms always seemed likely to me and Shaft, too. I'd be very interested to see your analysis. You can e-mail me here. I'm not sure I follow your lottery idea. What does one "win"? Who would win?

OHHHH!!! I get it now. (I thought he meant an acct for runes and socketed items for testing.)

That's clever. I'd contribute to that in a heartbeat. I'm not sure how the community would respond, but we won't know until we try.

The glitch which allowed this rollback exploit was patched, unfortunately.

A single account totally dedicated to one person that finds a runeword? I'd think the runeword itself would probably be the reward, or perhaps replacing the runes used if successful so as to allow them to find a much better, i.e. superior, item to put them in and maybe even a superior version for the runes as well. After all, if you burn high runes and find nothing that doesn't exactly excite you knowing someone else waited for you to do it so as to thin out the possible failures then finish the grid and get the runeword prize themselves.

Also, once we get that high in most of the areas, and assuming we haven't found a two-letter runeword, we're going to need to put our collective heads together to sort out a direction to advise others. With the scarcity of high runes to waste in this type of testing it's likely to slow to a crawl, which is why there has to be short low/mid runewords to give us a clue as to what methods we should try.

A team effort is the best chance we have in finding new runewords, not renegades throwing caution - and the runes - to the wind.

Besides, who holds the items, given that CDKeys are linked to account creation? What kinds of items would someone tossing ISTs into plain armors and weapons need? Let's not kid ourselves here; a lottery being held by a bunch of forum members like us doesn't incite people to try stunts like that. Hell, I'm holding my higher mid-level runes for more accurate ideas, and I'm not planning on trading my +27MaxDam jewel for testing runes. Sorry.

I quit and am doing a give a-way of all my stuff. Runeword hunters (Wathombe is there a complete list (Everyone that ever donated anything) somewhere? It'd be nice, but I don't insist on it)...anyways, Runeword hunters get first dibs, all the runes are reserved for somebody on East who wants to use them to either upgrade their char (to find more runes and try more pernumerations) or to put in pernumerations themselves...posting the give-a-way now...

Just had an unexpected week off. Apparently I didn't look at the course syllabus closely enough to notice that there were no class scheduled last week. So the gf and I went to visit her parents for a few days. Thankfully they live in Las Vegas. And even better, the Grand Canyon is on the way, so we had a great time.

Anyway, I'm still too busy to really contribute anyting that useful. You guys are doing some astounding work here, and I hope you get a word before Blizz releases anything. Since I don't play enough to join any of your Hell cow romps, I've decided to focus on the public Classic rusher account. Have only got her to 18, but if anyone decides they want to do some questing/leveling let me know. I (and wathombe) have the account info. Really think Forge rushes will yield a lot more high level runes than cows, but playing Classic is understanbly a drag.

I also noticed mention of the place holder runewords. I had encorporated those into my old spreadsheet as well as other rumored and beta versions of runewords. If you need my old spreadsheet I can dig it out tommorow, but from what I recall a good number had been attempted.

I was thinken on this problem yesterday. I've been doen a bit of mfing lately and relized that i sell a good 3/4 of the items i find for gold. what if i traded these items for low/mid runes each. Like a amn each. We could then upgrae these runes to get higher ones. this could help speed the higher rune testing
