23 Runeword Search Thread

To me, Diablo is waaaaaay too easy as it is. Thus hardcore. I'm not fond of tppks and nitemare fire enchanted monsters (silly bug), but those add to the challenge to me *recalls tele'ing away from tppk guided arrows and bone spirits*. As mentioned earlier, its more fun to play a game where I can actually lose. I remember I softcore I'd die and instinctively hit escape--it meant nothing. Death is much less fun nowadays, but gives me more of an objective it seems.

Or that's just my take on it.

And good job on the rune testing, up to lum it seems :)

I had a bit of a chuckle while reading Cadogan's post about his r/w stuff up because I thought he was trying to make Duress in a weapon, then I laughed again, this time at myself, when I realized he was trying to make Crescent Moon...I don't recall it being mentioned before but these two runewords are remarkably close to each other...Shael Um Thul...Shael Um Tir. Hmmmmm.

Interestingly, without going into details, the runes here spell Sut, the Hyksos rendering of the name of the Egyptian god of chaos, Set.

I havn't had much time for it of late but will get back into the WoW stuff on Friday probably.

Anybody here plan on being on USEast tonight? Being a W40k tabletop player, I've discovered Dawn of War - so I've got about 3/4 of a stash worth of lower runes that I'll give to somebody for testing if interested.

i very much was interested in this possibility as well. i first noticed it when i made my rune position information. if you want to take a look at that, it's not the only interesting thing between runewords, makes me think there's more to runewords than something random but i wasn't able to make any clear definitive answers, Wathombe posts the link for it in the weekly thread.

btw i'm going to try and log on sometime during the weekend just to burn the few runes i have left in that account. i think i have 1 or 2 very high runes left in that account. i do believe that in a few weeks i'll be able to play for a few days. i know i said i quit, but i tried giving my acount away to my cousin, he doesn't play useast anymore, so it's just sitting there, i have mules to perm still, i can do that easily enough at work though. school and the gym have taken over most of my life right now, 2nd year university just doesn't leave enough free time. i'm sure lots of people can agree with that, Shaft.ed i think doesn't post here often anymore for the same reason.
short story is i'll try and log on at least once a week for a little while.

i've also been studying as much runelore as i can.
so at least i'll learn a helluva lot about runes and the history of. so that's pretty cool. i'll share with you as much as i find is relevant, so far nothing much. most poeple who write books about runes have no backround on original scandinavian rune meanings, and make up their own meanings abuot runes. it's always arcane meanings but nothing's impossible to decipher i'm 100% except for that native american language, what is it... Navajo yeah, the 1 undecipherable thing on the planet. oh and if anyone has the other half of the rosetta stone my family would like it back =P

Hmm the old scandinavian runes doesnt look anything like the ones in diablo but thats kinda obvius when you see Amn - have you ever tried to make a ? in a stone :)
Perhaps the words in the runewords is like the million monkeys with a million typewriters writing all of Shakespeares work, a coincidence.

yes this have been discussed early on in the posts. there are ppl who have made classic rushers

heh, has been tested before :) maybe you should look at the grid before testing (not saying that you don't) maybe you missed it hehe. Sol and Shael was probably nothing much anyways

Andy, According to Wathombe's grid of 9/28 it had not been tested. Am I looking in the wrong place?

welli know the looks are different as is the originla meanings, and in fact there's 23 original scandinavia runes, (tho some sources say more, some say less) but the more we know about runes in general the more we know about runewords, how they're put together, at least, it's a lead, otherwise it could very well be the monkeys and typewriters and lots of bananas' ARGH stupid monkees

How many helpers were involved in this word rune?
What if there were some evil ones who did not really test their words, but just wrote failed?
Maybe some words declared as failed still work...

EDIT: evilspork: Hey, is it "evil spork" or "evil's pork"? One wonders...
its evil spork, u can make fun of him by calling him evilspoon and stuff

i am more than willing to help to fodges rushes in exp until we have a good classic rusher up. if there are 6(8-my rusher-my rushie) other people who want to join up and do it at the same time we could get 7 chars into nm each if we all make a lvl 20 char to get the baal quest.

as well i can do full rushes 4 drops (not fordge). best way to ask for one is to wisper me.

*tooleet4u3 or *tooleet4u4 is the accounts im mostly on around 5pm pacific till about midnight

I'd be willing to bet there is some logic in putting together runewords, but I doubt it is the same logic for all runewords. Some could be "I like the way those sound together." Some could be "this is a powerful runeword, so I have to make sure I use a few high runes." Some could be "This spells out a cool acronym that relates to the name of the runeword." Some could be "The individual stats of each of these runes make sense together for this runeword." And more than likely, it is some combination of a few of these for each runeword.

It seems unlikely that VHEEZE for BOTD or ROSE for BRAMBLE are just coincidences, but the acronyms are only sensible in a small proportion of the runewords. Maybe a few of the 23 new ones will have meaningful acronyms, but certainly not all of them will. Similarly, a few of the 23 new runewords might be derivations of WoW lore, but probably not all of them.

In short, I don't think it's the monkeys on the typewriter.... but I don't think we will ever come to a single "unified theory" of runeword creation.

Out of runes again, and they take up space. In other news I restarted my USWest tech support account, *Ax2Grind, so if worst comes to worst I can give someone a hand using a L1 character.

Afternoon, all (busy morning earlier).

Updated: wathombe's runeword spreadsheet

A few responses:

Manowar, Psyadam, Crusader, Yhenon, Flumhum, Fragtil, Debikichi ( :worship: ), Pleuris, Shogun, Ax: Logged, posted, thanks!

Manowar: Thanks! Hopefully we'll bear fruit one of these days...

Spork o' evil: I've still got 50-60 left on my other mule, but I'll relieve you of the new batch next time we're both on.

Sokar: Good to see you. Yes, 916_Andy and InsaneFarmer had noticed the similarity and tested four other iterations of S___UmT___ a few weeks ago, but for naught.

So....I've really been wondering how the search is going. Have we found any new ones that work yet?

I really appriciate what you are doing to look for new runewords. Not many people would use up runes to search for them, but rather let other people do it.

Alien killer: Nope, none found yet. You'll know when one is; it'll be all over every forum.

Anonymous: Thanks, much appreciated! Are you on West, East, or otherwise? If West, I'm usually on b/t 10 and midnight, Pacific Time, either *wathombe or *tribal_mule. If East, we'll have to wait for a volunteer (maybe Ghist?). How much space will we need?
