This Ladder schedule?

I just noticed this - unrelated to runes, but whatever - at Arrear Summit. It is from the ladder contest rules pages:

3. Contest Period. The Contest shall commence on July 1, 2004 at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST), and shall continue in duration through December 31, 2005 at 11:59 p.m. PST, or until an entrant has been adjudged to be a "Grand Prize Winner" on all of the Realms, whichever occurs first (the "Deadline"

== I guess we can expect to be playing Ladder S2 at least until Dec 31 2005....

It was my understanding that blizzard annouced how long the seasons will be? Maybe i'm confusing that with wc3.. Its reasonable to assume though that they could have taken the time it took someone to get to 99 in season 1 (say 6 months) and then translate that into the new season for a contest end date.. since the contest is only for the first to 99 (and the deadline ends at that point), it doesn't mean they have to reset the season.

Kenny's Round 6 question is up. Preliminary answer is "The Sin War" or "Sin War." This yields "tsw" or "sinwar", both of which have the same problems we ran into with "window" or "sgw" before Ostrakon hit upon "An Evil Force." I again offer up the possibility that "w" could refer to Thul. Thoughts?

or Vex if you want to get into the whole German V's and W's thing.

True, except the first answer ("sin war") was evidently wrong. (I like your avatar, btw.)

Apparently (courtesy Lokmor), the answer is:

Uileloscadh Mór

Arreat Summit said:
They [druids] created a new culture and language, cutting themselves off from their Barbarian cousins and their ways, vowing not to return to the Steppes of Mt. Arreat until the time of the Uileloscadh Mór, the final battle between the men of the world and the demons of the Burning Hells.

So, I suppose, Um Mal? Because the text for the answer comes from the Druid history, perhaps the item to try is a Druid Helm or Helm?

Also, could the Vizjerei clue have suggested Mal Cham (mage-clan) instead of Mal Amn Gul El/Eld/Eth Sol/Shael/Sur (mages)? Thoughts?

I honestly think these questions have no correlation between actual new runewords. They just hired a new person to "coordinate events" and such, this just may be one of this new person's ideas to get the Diablo Community "more involved."

*leaves to go kill meph alone*

[/sarcasm]

Man a lot seems to have "happened" since I posted last.

No update on the database like I originally hoped/promised, as a power failure dumped my hard drive at home, leaving me to a weekend of rebuilding.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to play D2 or at least work on the database here soon...

Hello everyone,

i´am new here to this forum, but i think the most interesting aspect about the new season are the 23 runewords.

i hope my english is not too bad.

Here are some of my thoughts about the subject:
1. if i remember correctly duress was one of the 1.07 runewords, but the runes were Thul + Hel + Um. 1.10 duress is Shael + Um + Thul, so 2 runes are the same, but the order is different. testing runewords with the possibility in mind that runes have changed would not be easy.

2. if i got it right kenny asks questions about npc, places or monsters. i suspect that the answer was barthuc the bloody to the "who are the vizerizej" question. Problem is of course "are" indicates a plural and no other npc or monster comes to my mind and a correct answer has been given, so i am not so sure about this one.

3. if it is really only about npc, places or monsters my guess to the 6th question would be "worldstone chamber" as it is really the place of the last battle by demons and man (players). maybe i take things only too literally.

4. if the questions and answers are really hints, i got another theory:
you can get some runes out of the words. i.e. : Baboon Demon ; Hratli; Pandemonium Fortress (i hope this will show correctly; just in case Baboon Demon = Amn; Hratli = ral; Pandemonium Fortress = anm, um, ort; sorry if i repeat myself)
then of course not every answer will give a clue to a different answer, but they will refer to one. for example the rounds with an uneven number give clues to runeword nr1, while the rounds with even numbers refer to runeword nr2

5. if it is the true that the answers are different clue to a single runeword or maybe two, than it would be interesting how question 3.5 fits in there.

6. does anybody know how duress, prudence and splendor were discovered? maybe the same method could be used.

Okay i am finished. All this is pretty vague. Hopefully i did not bore anyone too much.

The belief in how the latest runewords were found was that someone was trying to make a shield (other runeword, special mods) and accidentally put in 'EthLum' and viola - Splendor. Seeing that it matched the recipe from the 1.07 MPQ, further testing located Duress and Prudence. A bit later, Blizzard announced through the Arreat Summit that a fourth runeword was also activated, Wind.

Welcome crusader. That's an interesting idea to have runes embedded within the answers instead of the acronym stance everyone has been taking. We'll have to go back and analyze that strategy as well.

Since its been a while, I'm reposting the updated list of runewords, in addition to links to the pertinent B.net threads.

You may notice some higher runewords have been tested from the 1.07 list. Wathombe found another testing thread on a not so appropriate website. I've listed those tests with a ^ symbol instead of *.

Round 7 is up. Answer is apparently "drognan." I'm stumped. Can't be an acronym, as it has seven letters. Can't find any runes in it by Crusader's theory, as it does not contain all the letters for any of Dol, Ral, Ort, Ohm, Gul, Nef, or Amn. No idea here. Anyone?

let's hope there are gonna be 23 rounds ~_^
that would give an awnser to the question "are the games and new runewords connected?"

The quizzes couldn't possibly be clues for in-game actions, could they? For instance, go kill a baboon demon, then a blunderbore, then go to the Pandemonium Fortress, then talk to Hratli, and so forth. That would require a client-side patch, not a server-side update, correct?

Also, could there be anything in the "gossip" dialogue from the NPC's, particularly Hratli and Drognan? I don't see how the monster and place clues could fit into that, but maybe they're just red herrings.

Whoever it was on b.net week before last who suggested storming Blizzard's offices may have had the best idea...

First I'd like to say that this thread is awesome and you guys are doing a lot of work! Second I'd like to help, on USEast I currently on the Season 2 Ladder have a lvl 52 Assassin in Act 3 Nm but I've done many Nm Countess runs for runes, and while Nm Countess runes aren't that great, I have some I'd be willing to use in testing. (Socketed items are a different matter though....don't have many of those....)

Third, while reading this thread, I noticed that someone (wathombe I think) pointed out that W has no runic equivalent.....however, it could be interpreted as "Double-U" and therefore "UmUm," so I think that's worth considering....even though redundant runes seem unlikely (except for Sanctuary, of course.)

Fourth, my account name is *The_Green_Sword should anyone want to contact me online for any reason.

- Blue Streak

I've been having a heck of a time posting recently, keep getting forum down type messages.

Welcome to the hunt Blue Streak. Any assistance with testing is greatly appreciated as many of us seem to be lacking in the most important requirement for rune testing, the runes. The UmUm to represent W is a good idea. Someone has suggested something similar using VexVex since it looks like a W, and wathombe had the idea that it may be Thul since its rune icon looks like a W. As you can see the possibilities add up fast. And all of this is assuming a lot in the first place.

I also just wanted to add my thoughts on the Drognan answer. The only thing I can come up with for the answer itself is that is that there is a "silent" n at the end i.e. Dol Ral Ohm/Ort Gul Nef AmN. Not likely but possible. I think either these are a red herring (or a few of them at least) or there is something we are missing in the text of the clue/Arreat Summit exerpt. And as has been suggested some of these might tie in together, one clue giving item the other giving recipe etc.

The other inconsistency from round to round I'm seeing is that sometimes we get multiple words and assume that the first letter is an acronym and sometimes we get one word answers and assume each letter is important. I know its the only way to go, but maybe someone can figure out a pattern here.

mystery rune

i'd like to know where these quizzes are, i mean, you guys keep referring to quizzes that you're getting hints from i.e. Wathombe's entry ??? ok, so if someone can please give me a link itd be appreciated. and i'm doing some random rune testing with all the low level runes i can find, u know, just random, i'm wondering if i should actually post what i've tried on here or not?

Insane Farmer,

I'm logging ALL runeword tests no matter what they are. If you don't feel like posting at least PM me the tested words. I'm keeping an updated spreadsheet of any runes I test or I see people posting.

THanks much
