Please tell us if you ran and how you did

CONGRATS for all your new shiny rocks!

Now let's hear all of those nice stories, see some great haulpics etc.!

As for me, I ran only 11 hours (with really meh luck besides that Ber), I'll check later if there was any good non-qualifiers to post about. :)

See you in the next round! I'll open it soon enough, but not immediately because I think these results are wort the attention now!

Wow, massive grats @T72on1!! Called it. ;)

Proven: Necros find 2 Zods. :)

Will post my stuff along with some data and gameplay later or tomorrow. Awesome results everyone!

Of course also huge grats to @Pb_pal and @maxicek, even though you guys are maybe slightly annoyed by being beaten despite Zod drops. Holy cow!

FOUR Zods. FOUR. By 3 different people? Insanity. I don't think this Top 3 will ever get beaten.

Massive congrats @T72on1 !!! Very well deserved! Congrats to everyone else on their rocks as well. :)

As for my round:

Total Qualifiers: 13
Flawless Amethysts: 92
Flawless Rubies: 87
Sol: 28
Ral: 32
Skillers: 12
2x Bow and Crossbow
Javelin/Spear
2x Cold Skills (including one of Sustenance)
Light Skills
Poison and Bone
Combat Skills (Barb)
Masteries (Barb)
Combat Skills (Paladin)
Martial Arts
Shadow Skills
Cow items: 6
Hat: 3
Body: 2
Boots: 1
Runewords "at a glance":
Stealth

Nadir

I ran this round exclusively with my Javazon. Pretty standard setup as can be seen here. The only oddity, as mentioned previously, is that I use a Phoenix shield for the redemption aura (purely for convenience). 5 Skillers with various other mods, 3 columns of empty space for picking up things during the runs.

I had a weirdly consistent distribution of qualifiers during the first 13 hours of the set, which definitely helped with motivation. Here is a full breakdown of how it went:

1 hour: Pul to start it off. Always nice to get a qualifier early, even if it's the "low man on the totem pole"
3.5 hours: Mal, and then Ber in the same run! Great!
4.25 hours: Gul (small packs can be worth it too!)
5.25 hours: Cham!
1.jpg
Incredible rune to round out a full top 5, and what a great start in general with already two 20+ pointers only a quarter of the way through the set.

6 hours: Pul
7.5 hours: Ohm 10+ pointer, very nice!
8 hours: Mal
10 hours: Pul
10.5 hours: Pul
13 hours:
2.jpg
And from a random small grouping I almost skipped, too! At this point I decided not to mess with her mojo, and finish the entire set with the zon instead of mixing in the Fissure Druid.

Rightfully so I hit a dry spell right after finding the Zod. I suppose the RNG gods had had enough of me for a bit and quite frankly I can't blame them.

18 hours: Vex Nice! All 10+ pointers in my top 5 at this point which is a great milestone to hit.
19.25 hours: Ber I literally laughed when I saw this one drop. A fitting end to an absolutely ridiculous round.

Thanks again to @Grape for hosting, and I'll leave this off with what everyone came here for; the haul pic.
3.jpg
See you all in the Travincal!

Absolutely ridiculous round @Pb_pal , very well done!

In any other universe (with any sense), that would have been a winning score. But all hail our new Moo Moo champion, waiting for T to post!

Congrats for the Zod (and the others too, of course). I should maybe stop hosting these or I'll get dethroned one day ;) Also liking that Chilling of Sustenance a lot too.
I sealed my own fate when I predicted this: I'm expecting at LEAST the top 3 people to get 100+ point hauls this year, so get to work everybody.

So close! I'm just going to round max's score up and say I got it right. ;)

Nice haul @Pb_pal 13 qualifiers is really good!

I am quite happy with my placing and obtaining a couple of points for the total competition. I am REALLY happy with the runes I got :) Too bad @Locohead beat me by just about 1 point... I thought you were gonna quit this tourney? :p

I went with a Fire Sorc builds, without Infinity. I played p5 most of the part. In terms of my personal goals, I think I reached them all. I did not finish last, I got runes so I can make Enigma/Infinity, and I had fun. I had hamburgers for dinner more often than usual too... wonder why?! ;)

I knew that I wouldn't win with just the Zod, so was a bit disappointed with the lack of qualifiers in the first and last 5h. I don't have a screenshot of the drop as my key was badly mapped. Yes, my post in the progress thread was just after it dropped and I realised I had no picture.

I almost left it on the ground. I was just moving to the next pack and a straggler got killed. Herd, herd, herd. Oh yeah there is a Zod, ought to pick that up. OMG Zod!
Arachne with Zod.jpg
(I was just short of clvl93 before my 20h were up, so levelled in The Pit)

Well done to everyone who entered - What are your plans for your finds?

Oh my indeed, this is pretty nuts with 4 Zods found, and 2 on them from our Round 1 winner! If I were Pb_pal, I would have been 99.9% sure I'd win with that haul, but that double Zod from T72on1, wow! Congrats!

I vaguely recall Gripp saying his 20 hour sets had a 20% chance of landing a Zod? Not sure on the exact percentage but it wasn't great. Factor in a 2nd Zod and not having the Gripp factor? Insane.

@ffs - My only Zod find was also by a Necro. I should have ran with a Necro to get that 2nd Zod!

I'll be posting my results much later though, when I have some time to write it up.
@Locohead Epic trolling in the first week "Oh no this is terrible, 6min runs, I'm giving up, etc." :p

@Grape Thanks for hosting a great round. Some really nice finds by everyone.
@drmalawi very nice score with couple of the most sought out runes included! Grats! Have you any plans for those yet?

Also very nice video! I occasionally watch your d2 videos, even though I don't follow anyone (I only log on so rarely). I won't mind you posting those before the next results but maybe give us a heads up (or is that a good idea, lol)

@maxicek grats for the Zod, awesome! I seem to recall it's not your first, though? Were you one of the very few that did find a Zod before 1.13?

@Grape I just assumed that the title of the video would "scare" people from this forum off and don't sneak peak :p @ffs posted a similar video a few hours after mine.

My plans is to make either Enigma or Infinity first. I have runes for one of them, but not both at the same time. I was thinking about either making Enigma first and run River of Flame, Chaos and WSK with Hammerdin for the last round, or Infinity and do the last round with Cold/Lightning hybrid sorc. But I think I will make with making all those joozy runewords until after the whole competition, I like to play with sub-optimal builds :)
I didn't find anything particularly interesting. Got ~20 or 30 mil exp for my lvl 98 1.07 sorc so only did about 10-20 runs. don't remember. Oh well. I've got exams and am very busy next week but I will probably play both of the next rounds, at least a little :)
Mine is extremely uneventful. I found an Ist within the first 4 hours and then the Sur dropped with 3 hours to go. No skiller GC and the best item that dropped was a Trang-Oul's Troll belt that dropped in my 2nd to last run. In between the Ist and Sur were about 20 Sols and 15 Thul runes. A Pul rune dropped on one of the skeletons in Tristram right beside Wirt's body.
Really happy for @T72on1 actually. :) He participated in so many competitions and always seemed to be unlucky when it counted. Glad that finally changed! I believe @Grape also rightly theorized this will be his time to shine!
When Zod God says let there be shine!

Who wants the blessing for the next round?
Screw you guys.

P.S. Much love
What amazing results, when it pours it rains, congrats @T72on1.
@Grape: be warned Zod-God, titans are approaching he goot of Mt. Olympus...

Major congrats to all again! Especially our amazing round 1 champ @T72on1, so well deserved!

No luck on my side regarding the really high runes, but I had lots of fun nonetheless. In particular happy about Ric (my untwinked Fishymancer) coming extremely close to farming Infinity, which will be his next major upgrade. Some data, gameplay vids and haul pics below.

Set 1: Untwinked Necromancer (Summoner)
Player setting: P5
Run times: 3m30s to 4m30s, mostly around ~ 4m
Hours run: 20
Top 5: Ber Sur Ist Um Um
Qualifiers found: 7
Qualifiers per hour: 0.35
Non-qualifier finds

I found two Zods recently with him within about 5 hours of gameplay, and he basically farmed Infinity (minus a Sur) which he was really looking for, so I guess I don't get to complain. :) Didn't keep track of crafting runes, though I focused on Rals only, as I crafted along the way, resulting in a nice 2/10 amulet for him and a 2/20 Paladin amulet. Haul pic:
cows_1_Haul.png
I recorded his last run for fun, and with D2 being crazy, of course his Ber dropped during the run. At the same time, as the title says, proof that complaining works. :)

As you can see from my silly reaction, he was really looking for a Ber in order to make his Infinity soon. ;) I guess it shows how refreshing untwinked play is, you still get excited about drops that greatly help the character played! (Btw, the alarm sound at the end is my 20h timer running out – still cannot get run counter to work reliably so I used a timer app).

Set 2: Javazon
Player setting: P7
Run times: 2m50s to 3m20s, mostly around ~3m
Hours run: 12.5
Top 5: Vex Vex Gul Ist Ist
Qualifiers found: 10
Qualifiers per hour: 0.8
Rals found: 29 (didn't pick up all Sols)
Non-qualifier finds
3_1_haul.png

With her, the mission was of course to win it all! That didn't work quite obviously :D but what do you expect after just short of 12.5 hours of running... It's a bit of a pity, would have been interesting to see what she could deliver in a full 20h batch. Very happy with her qualifiers found per hour though. Until around the 10h mark it was at or above 1/h even, with no qualifiers dropping during the last ~2.5 hours.

At least in that category she seems to have outperformed others. :) Not that it matters, but it reaffirms how strong the build is for runs like cows.

I used a very cool new setup with her, after a substantial overhaul around a recently crafted 2/20 amulet. That allowed her to hit 99% FCR on switch while using CtA, along with FCR/leech/stat rings and a Cham'ed Griffon's Eye for CNBF instead of Raven. Since it's too messed up to explain in writing, I elaborated a bit on it in this video:

It was huge fun to run with the setup. Massive upkeep with both leech and MPK/LPK, fast teleporting on 99% FCR, great safety from CtA, and the minor dip in damage (in comparison to her previous all-offensive setup with a 4-facet shield) was barely noticeable. Absolutely love it!

Here's one batch of runs that I recorded with her (no sound since I unfortunately forgot to switch sound settings). Caught a Vex drop around the half-way mark, otherwise nothing special but it gives a good idea of how runs looked like. By now I think the map is actually just plain garbage. :D She still managed around ~3m runs most of the time, but I had to cut back quite a bit as far as picking stuff up goes.

Again great job everyone, special grats to our amazing new Zod owners and (already after round 1) huge thanks to @Grape for hosting!

As for myself, I see I've missed the last point by 0.1. With run times around 7-8 minutes on /p3, my hopes weren't high, but I was hoping that 2 jahs would net me a point or two lol. The merc made effective herding without enigma rather difficult and I couldn't ditch him either, because I needed infinity.

However, I've got special plans prepared for the next two runs with my trapper, I'll be back stronger. :D

Thanks all, and major congrats to all other participants, especially the other 2 finding Zod. What an epic round this has turned out to be !!!

Unfortunately I don't have time now to post about the most crazy 15 hours (no qualifiers in the last 5 hours) in my D2 career when it comes to drops. I hope to be able to do so tomorrow.

Maybe one little spoiler already: in those 15 hours I found no less than 14 qualifiers, 7 of which were high runes. Crazy stuff !!
*sits down next to me and looks at the screen without saying a word*
- erhmm so I'm playing Diablo 2, I'm taking part in this challenge where you play for 20 hours and collect stuff and the one that gets the highest score wins
- oh is that so, cool
- yeah and this time the challenge takes place in the so-called secret cow level and you keep killing cows
- for 20 hours
*blank stare*

- oh look there's a river

- huh, you're right
*Kali picks up wirt's leg*

- so I need to collect these orange runes you see... well but not this one, this one is worthless
- good thing they're orange, imagine if you'd have to rummage through all of this
*Shuffleblast remembers 1.09 cowruns*
- well you know, there were times were you actually had to...
*another blank stare, but blanker*

- but you know, this 800x600 game is great because there's so much cool rare stuff that you can collect and once it drops, you get a rush like winning a lottery ticket or hitting a jackpot in a casino
*Shuffleblast briefly contemplates his image and quickly discards all unpleasant associations*

- and one of the coolect and most overpowered items you can make is an armor from these orange runes that gives you the ability to teleport around, which is absolutely sickening!
- hëëëë...
- and I've already found the 1st half of it during these runs! (jah)
- that's great!
- so what do you get for winning?

- admiration, envy and bragging rights!
- huh

- oh and this here is dangerous! You see, there's a cow king in this secret cow level and if you kill him you can never enter again - so I just leave here and start once again from the beginning
- eeunnngghhhh
*stands up and leaves the room*

*a while later*

- I'VE FOUND IT, I'VE FOUND IT!! WOOO!!
- oh really!? So you can teleport around now?
- well not quite, I've found the 1st half again (another jah)
*intensive eyerolling*

Congrats to everyone, even those that didn't manage a Zod..

@Grape - Sorry, I didn't send any results. I've barely had a chance to turn on the computer the last 2 weeks. I ran a solid hour! And, NO qualifiers!

EPIC!! Congrats to the top finishers, and @T72on1 in particular, and, well, everyone who ran for the round. In addition to what I imagine are highest total scores in RFL history, I wonder if this is highest total of high runes found? Very cool to see all the drops, and the 4 Zods in particular

I had thought I might pick up 1 point, but there was fierce competition for that last point it seemed. But when I couldn't improve on the Um as the last scorer, I was pretty skeptical.

Things got off to an auspicious start with the Jah falling on literally the first run of the Friday RFL opened. Then the drops were (rounding to nearest 5 minutes):
2:20 - Um
5:15 - Ohm
6:35 - Ist
11:20 - Um #2
12:20 - Mal
18:20 - Um #3
18:20 - Vex (same run actually)

So only 8 qualifiers total, which seemed a bit low for what I estimate as averaging a little over 4 minutes per run, with a major drop in efficiency over the last 5 hours. And the highest scorer of the Vex over the last 19:56:15 of the round. I actually thought I was in good shape through the Ist, but those two dry spells (almost 5 hours and then 6 hours) really hampered the set.

That said, I am happy to have cashed in the RNG from RFL Rd 1 in exchange for the untwinked 99er Necro (read: I can't even begin to complain about luck over the last three weeks :p). Best non-rune find was without a doubt the Burning Skiller of Vita, and best runeword drop was White.

I will just close with thanks to @Grape for hosting and repeating how amazing these results were. Very cool to see! Round 2 HYPE!!

Wow. Awesome results guys. Big Gratz to @T72on1 for a double Zod drop score and overall victory in round one. When I get home I will post some screenshots, but they feel kinda meager now against all those Zods, Chams, and Jahs. I still had a ton of fun for sure, and the Lo I found is absolutely going to be put to use with my Barb.

Same top 3, Cham Lo Lo, but the Zon went through some tough droughts during the 2nd half of her set and never found anything above an um during that half. Zon turned out to be a little more efficient than the Sorc, but found much less in qualifiers. 7 vs 17, that's RNG for you.

More in depth analysis:
Code:

  ilvl84% 2.84% 4.17%
*Based on Jewel count

I definitely missed many gems and some runes, but with jewels I'm confident I picked up almost of those. Plus, jewels come with an ilvl that gives me a rough break down of regular/champion/unique&minion cow numbers. I was surprised to see my Javazon beat out my Sorc in terms of cows per run- it felt like my Sorc was clearing more completely. My Javazon could have had a better map though.

On average, for every 1 Zod rune dropped, 2214 Jewels, 397 Ral Runes, and 307 Sol Runes will also drop. Even with my 2 sets, my chances of landing a Zod wasn't great.

Nice Ruby Jewel of Fervor @NanoMist.

I am not sure of an average time for my runs, but I was not in the 3-4 minute range for sure, and it makes sense when looking at the drops versus run times. There is RNG in there for sure, and even with awesome fast runs there are extremely bad stretches of luck. Most of my qualifiers dropped somewhere between the 7-13 hour mark with the last Vex dropping in the last hour. Ill drop a couple screenshots just for posterity sake. I am a little disappointed I didnt find a Cham, but after looking at the results and amount of time spent for the drops, it almost seems like Cows are a great alternative to running LK for Runes. The only Cham I've ever found dropped from the Council, so hopefully the RNG gods will bless me again next round.

@NanoMist cool that you used the Jewel method to count cows! Does anyone know that it has been used before? I know the method is mentioned in the rune hunting guide.
Gripphon used it in the previous RFL, and it would make sense that he mentioned it in the rune hunting guide. I suppose charms can be used as well, but those I identified as I ran, in order to cut down on the muling. I planned on using jewels as a metric, so I was more diligent collecting those from the start.
So on p5 jewel drops are about 1:570 and on p7 1:500 ?
Yep, or more precisely, jewel drops in cows are 1:571 on p5 and 1:506 on p7.
Great haul pics all! That's one of the reasons it's fun to run these tournaments :)

Especially @NanoMist has some very juicy drops, grats!

@ffs good job with figuring out how to get the most out of that 2/20 amulet, nice video! Maybe I'll 'Cham' one of my Griffon's if I ever craft something similar.

@NanoMist 17 qualifiers is just so high !!! But then again, looking at your run times, it could be expected up to a point. I always envy your efficiency and fast run times :).

As for my runs ... like I said crazy stuff all around. Even more so considering my slower run times, around 4 min for the Javazon, a bit more for the Necro.

I started out incredibly good when my first ever Zod dropped after 40 minutes !!!

RFL2018 Cows Zod 1.jpg

The Gul rune that dropped 10 minutes later went by rather unnoticed, since I was still so much out of this world due to the Zod.

The funny thing is that the Zod drop put me in a 'oh good, now I won't have a terrible result like last year' mood at first, not in a 'now I have a good shot at victory mood'.

So running was very relaxed, and to my surprise a Jah dropped after 90 minutes in the tournament.

RFL2018 Cows Jah.jpg

Talk about a blazing start !!!

It wasn't until the Lo that dropped at the 6 hour mark that I realized I was really in for victory.

RFL2018 Cows Lo.jpg

When an Ist dropped at the 7:30 mark and Ber 10 minutes later, it was very clear: first place was the place to aim for.

RFL2018 Cows Ber.jpg

Well actually, at that point, with over 130 points, I was quite confident that victory was mine already, after less than 8 hours !!! The results show that this wasn't the case at all ;).

With every qualifier, and certainly with every HR that dropped, I was going more and more like 'ok, now my luck will be over, prepare for a dry streak'. But it never came, until the 15 hour mark, at which point I found my last one.

Less than an hour after the Ber I found an Um, within an hour followed by Um number 2 and an Ohm.

RFL2018 Cows Ohm.jpg

At that point I had reached the goals I had set for this round: Ohm for my Doom BA, full Cow King set and Zod being found by someone. Even better that that someone was me :).

It didn't stop there though, as I got a second Lo after 11 hours, followed shortly by another Gul and then a Mal.

RFL2018 Cows Lo 2.jpg

Around the 13 hour mark my Necro killed the Cow King, and when switching to the Javazon I felt like that would be the end of my lucky strike. I had a 187.5 RFO score at that point, so figured that 200 would be good to aim for in the remaining 7 hours. Maybe not really ambitious, but like I said, I was quite sure I would win the round and that my luck would have ended by then.

I couldn't really get into the Javazon, so tried a Blizz Sorc shortly, but didn't get into that either, and managed to kill the Cow King. So it was back to the Javazon. Rerolled maps and got a far better one. Luckily this time I did get into the character, and a second Mal in one of the first runs seemed like a good sign for that.

And then suddenly, around the 14:30 mark ... BAM !!!

RFL2018 Cows Zod 2.jpg

The thought hadn't even crossed my mind that this would be possible. I was just in disbelief. I was at a stunning score of 197.5, RFO score was 264.6 !!!

After that the lucky streak finally ended, but I did enjoy the rest of the playtime with the Javazon, and still found some more good items, so all good :).

This is my complete haulpic:

I was convinced that I'd beat the second player with a 70 point margin or so, but @Pb_pal had an incredibly good score of 150. I'm pretty sure he was quite surprised that he didn't get into first place, and with that kind of score he should :). Lovely obviously that he taking it so well and accepts second place like it is. Given his overall win last year and now this score again, I think he has a very high chance of claiming the victory in the end after 3 rounds.

I have posted all good finds I had in the running thread already, and don't have time to repost them now. Notable finds were 5x Ko, two Gheed's, Bonehew, Jalal's, Stormshield, Boneflame, entire Cow King Set, Guardian Angel and Vamp Gaze in one drop, BK ring, Stoneraven, Titan's and Firelizard's.

Thanks again for hosting @Grape , and looking forward to the next round !!! I realize the pressure is on me now :).

Brilliant drops ladies and gentlemen - beautiful pictures :p
@T72on1 that is a sick haul, so many further HRs... again, grats I'm happy for you!

@Grape yeah the Java setup is great fun, can totally recommend if a suitable FCR amulet is available. I initially had doubts whether it was worth the Cham (and for cows specifically, using a higher DPS setup and switching to Wizzy might actually still be slightly more efficient, even though more annoying). But it works just great and makes for really smooth gameplay, hands down most fun I ever had with her.

@NanoMist thanks for not even leaving me the "most qualifiers per hour" consolation price, that's great, awesome, much appreciated! ;) Kidding aside, nice haul as well, grats! From your Java highlight vid it looks like you've been using Spirit and I assume FCR from either amulet or ring for 68% FCR on Javelin switch? In that case those are quite impressive run times, you must have executed really well. Out of curiosity, what was your overall setup?

Oh and @PhineasB you definitely don't get to complain for another year or so, after that sick RNG recently with your untwinked Necro! :D
So what plans do you all have for your new runes? :D
What MF did you use?
Phoenix shield. Probably BotD at some point. But I'm not in a rush for that one.
@T72on1 simply beautiful! I'm a bit jealous but in the mean time very happy for you!

Grats once more and it was well deserved indeed! :)
Congrats T72on1 on that amazing haul of 2 Zods plus! And grats also to Pb-pal and our moderator for their Zods as well. Awesome haul pics from everyone that played. @Grape, No results from me as RL caught up and I had no time to run. But I will take part in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
I didn't use any MF- it doesn't affect the chance for the jewel base drop, only the quality.

@ffs - You guessed right, a standard Cow Javazon setup.

2x Non-eth non-up'd Titan's (2nd in inventory)
Griffon's w/ Ias Jewel
Enigma
Spirit
Crafted ammy: +2 Amazon, 8 FCR, +70 mana, 30 FR
Ravenfrost
Rare ring: 10 FCR, 6 ML, +79 Mana, +7 Res
3/20 Gloves
Razortail
Silkweaves

Inventory
6x Java GC's
Titan's
7x Mana/Life SC
3x4 empty space

I know the FCR from the rare ring is overkill, but I used it for the mana leech and +mana.
Might merc to boost damage for leech, although LPK and MPK might have held up fine.
Swap Titan's as needed during runs. I lose a GC but I rather have the ability to swap Titan's from inventory.
Awesome haul pics and finds everyone, love hearing how these competitions go for people. The stories of the ups and downs and big surprises is half the fun of these things, at least for me. :)

@NanoMist - Awesome haul there, some serious goodies you got! Thanks for all those data points too, I always know I can depend on you for some good theorycrafting fodder in the future. :)

T72on1 - That's insane. That RFO score is enough to beat every single RFO entry except for the winning one by Gripp in that one crazy year with multiple 200+ scores.

I was surprised, but honestly quite happy. These competitions are ultimately about everyone getting some new toys to play with, and it's super nice to see everyone have some good success here. Oh and yes, the win last year softened the blow a little ;)

Top5 are top 5 runes only, all qual are all qualifiers found.

It's not completely clear if @drmalawi found exactly 5 qualifiers or more. If it's the latter, I have to add those to the table.

Amount of Zods found definitely stands out of course. More Ber runes than Jah runes is statistically not what you'd expect either. Same goes for Lo vs Sur, certainly since it's a 7 vs 2 ratio there.

Considering we had 16 people running, we had almost 2.7 HR per participant. Given that not all participants did the full 20 hours, the actual amount on average probably is a bit over 3 HRs per participant. On average, every participant found 7.4 qualifiers. Again, knowing that not every participant did 20 hours, the actual amount will be close to 8 qualifiers per participant.

I can't find the data about what can be expected on average for our Cow runs (although I know that Gripphon posted them during the first RFL and iirc someone reposted them or did his own calculations in the running thread for the first round), but I'm quite sure in the end the conclusion has to be that we got plenty of new shiny rocks :).

Edit: got a reply from drmalawi, added the extra 2 qualifiers to the table. Also changed the wording, hopefully for less confusion.
