So it is time to end this fun event.

The last few weeks have been really fun to follow as well as to play and be part of this community. One thing is to organize an event like this, but it all wouldn't happen without you all that participated, thanks!

I think this tournament was a major success; there was a lot of players and great activity in the running threads. Many players tried out new builds and we learned a lot of new things along the way.

And even found some new high runes while having all this fun.

THANKS ALL! Let's do this again some day?

Results for the round three:
1. Gripphon 103.5 (10 points)
Cham Cham Jah Lo Lo

2. Pb_pal 74.1 (8 points)
Lo Lo Lo Lo Sur

3. Grape 69.7 (6 points)
Jah Lo Lo Vex Vex

4. NanoMist 65.2 (5 points)
Jah Lo Sur Vex Ist

5. ffs 53.3 (4 points)
Lo Sur Ohm Ist Gul

6. Southpaw8668 41.6 (3 points)

7. T72on1 40.9 (2 points)
Jah Ohm Ist Mal

8. PhineasB 24.8 (1 point)
Vex Gul Gul

9. Noodle 15.2
Ohm Um

10. Brak 5.1
Um

Rest didn't start/finish with a qualifier.

Positions may change;
@paradisebunny , @tokerdin and @Lynchgrinch feel free to still submit your results.

I hurried a little bit, because otherwise we would probably have results only by Sunday.

It was a long tournament, and the last round wasn't as active as the earlier ones. Still, big congrats for all the new runes there, and of course all hail the Gripgod for truly smashing the rest. What a score, GG man!

And, this leads to the final overall Rune Finding League 2017 results:
1. Pb_pal (24 points)

2. Gripphon (18 points)

3. Grape (16 points)

4. NanoMist (13 points)

5. ffs (12 points)

6. tokerdin and Xios (8 points)

7. Burgomaster3 and Neksja (5 points)

8. DaveW (4 points)

9. Brak and Southpaw8668 (3 points)

10. paradisebunny and T72on1 (2 points)

11. DiabloTwoinDC,ILikeRocks and PhineasB (1 point)

HUGE congrats to our new rune-finding champion and the first RFL winner, Pb_pal!

It seems that the key to success was a solid good performance on all the three rounds, and definitely winning one didn't hurt either!

Let the comments, haulpics etc. come. I'll post more later :)

I did some 15 hours of runnning, 11 with Fire Sorc and 4 with Javazon. Things went very similar to second round. Too much so to my taste actually :(. I took a blazing start with a Jah after 45 minutes, Mal 10 minutes later. Then Ohm at the 3:10 mark, Ist at 4:45. After that ... nothing anymore, zip, nada. There's only one reasonable explanation: runes are dropping for me, I just don't see them drop ... ;).

This is my final haulpic:

And the individual drops:

I did get a few good drops though. Most notable where my first ever Cow King set item, the body armor, which I ended up finding three times. Second is a very nice Nightwing's Veil. These were all my interesting drops:

My RFL was kinda weird. Very nice first first round and decent last one, highest scoring round being the one with the least expected score. Then the catastrophe that was my Travincal round, where I had surprisingly little time to run for the last week and before that I had horrible luck. That round can be seen in my overall RFL haul pic, but knowing that most of those came from the Pits and Cows, puts it into another light. Lucky Travi round could have even ended with almost similar haul pic as my total is now.

But well, I like the three Jahs of course, and that Cham from Travincal before the RFL round two saved the weeks for me. Going to roll at least one Grief PB as I have one superior 5os that has been empty for a little while. Two of those Jahs are already part of my newest Zod God item, or as @Gripphon would say, couple Ferraris were sold for Fiat Seicento ;) One Jah reserved for the next Zod, ofc.

I ran with Javazon for the most part, 3:15 average and P5. 1h 45min of messing around with Nova sorc and Trapper. Trapper had clearly potential but as I had quite limited time, I kept it straight and went with Javazon. That Nova sorc was 200FCR and with ES, she was a little bit fragile, but with some practice could have potentially achieved ok times. In the end I ran total of about 19 hours and 30 minutes, because midnight came too soon :D

Well, I'll let it be for now. The base is 10ED%/2AR

Well, I definitely feel silly now. Wanted to try some Pit runs with my Javazon, now that I finally have Enigma and the RFL is over. So I gave her slightly other gear, but with one major change: Wizardspike on switch instead of CtA. Still prebuffing with CtA, but after that in comes Wizardspike, and that makes such a huge difference.

So yeah, I feel really silly, because I went back to the RFL3 thread before starting with my Javazon, or at least after only a bit of time spent on her, and watched the video posted there by, I think, ffs. I saw him doing the same thing with Wizardspike and CtA, but figured it wouldn't make such a difference, because I was so slow, so probably would not make it to the end without BO wearing out. Long story short: this setup feels so much better, plays so much more smoothly.

I'm not saying it would have made a major difference in the end when it comes to my final score. But I definitely would have been faster than I was now, and would have enjoyed it more. Definitely call me an Enigma fan now :). What's that you say, you all have been telling me for years that I should make that Enigma, because it would change my life? Lies, I tell you, lies ...

*me runs off to deck out my Pitzerker to do all kinds of cool Enigmatic stuff in Pits*

As mentioned in the running thread, I ended up settling on my 99er Sin, and got in 9.5 hours with her (one hour with a massively underleveled Javazon who found nothing beyond a Ral and two flawless amethysts). She wasn't risking a death, so play was cautious (read: slow). Five hours of p5 runs had no qualifiers, and she bumped up to p7. First, run was the Vex, so it was p7 from there on.

Yesterday after dinner I went upstairs with the idea of submitting my score, but decided to do two more runs to get close to an even 10.5 hours. Of course, the second Gul dropped on the last run.

I'll hold off on saying I'm glad I got at least a point because I suspect someone will submit results and bump me down to 9th . Thanks to everyone for participating -- it was fun to follow and see all the good analysis -- and especially to @Grape for hosting!

RFL was one great and fun tournament, well balanced in playing time with 1 week of pauses in between rounds. Fair to say I had a lot of fun playing. Not only playing, but talking in running thread was really fun, thank you guys for a great time. I also hope we can do this more in the future. Huge congratz to RFL champion @Pb_pal, great performance in all 3 rounds there man. Also good performance by everyone else, there were pretty impressive results during this RFL, especially fruitful was second round.

RFL ROUND 3

I had massive fun running cows, much more than Travincal or areas, because I played with several characters testing them, and each character felt unique and kept me going really fast so I finished my set in only 6 days. Most of the time I spent playing with necromancer, like 12 hours or so. I really liked fissure druid too, also similar was blizzard sorc. Trapper was ok, but I definitely do not enjoy playing javazon, but still spent playing her for a few hours.

My set was really rich with qualifiers and in quality. I mean, cows defeated both of my Travincal sets by quite some margin in top 5, but you will also see I have mad RFO score too. Mad for cows at least. I am really happy with 100+ score and that is obviously also a reason why I didn't care to go for a second round. Either I find Zod or no score improvement, and finding Zod is, by expectations, ~1:5 event for my necro. So... no thank you. When giving results prediction I also assumed someone will find Zod and have like 130 score, but it didn't happen obviously. Also this was my best 20 hour set on cows and I did 3 of them. Last time on Zodthon I had 109 score or whatever, but with 40 hours of cowrunning combined. I assume I could have beaten that if I played now for 40 hours, but we will never know. It doesn't really matter anyway.

Hours played: 20
Runs done: anywhere between 410 and 440 on p5 (though did some running on p7 with java)
Qualifiers found: 20
Qualifiers: 3xPul, Mal, 4xUm, Gul, 3xOhm, 3xVex, 2xLo, Jah, 2xCham
RFO score: 198.1 (trolled again!)

Overall, set was above expectations and quality of the qualifiers was very high. Total of 11 10+ pointers speaks for itself, which means I found Vex+ once every 110 minutes of playing. I didn't pay super close attention to gems which is the reason why I found only 150 amethysts, but that is fine to me. I tried to pay attention to jewels, though normally I missed some. Jewels can help me with some estimations for statistics. From them I could estimate how many cows I killed at average per minute of playing (assuming jewels dropped also close to average value).

Cows on p5 drop jewels once per 571 cows. This means by jewels estimation I killed total of ~173013 p5 cows in 20 hours, or that is 144.2 cows per minute killed. That kinda goes along with my other tests and taking into consideration I played necro the most and he has 160+ p5 cows per minute.

Estimating cows killed per minute by Rals dropped, I get to the value of 206830 cows killed in 20 hours, or 172 per minute. That is obviously not true, I was simpy lucky on Ral runes.

Estimating by Sol runes, I get to the value of 197616 p5 cows killed in 20 hours, or 165 per minute. Obviously that is wrong too and I was lucky on Sol runes as well.

I won't estimate by flawless amethysts since I know I missed tons of those.

Jewels can also help to reveal one more things. How many minions do I kill per regular cow, or champions? I simply check jewel levels and compare amount also assuming they dropped by their expected value.
Total jewels farmed: 303
Jewels level 84: 10
Jewels level 83: 1
Jewels level 81: 292
Regular cows killed per minion or champion: 26.5
Extra xp gained by killed minions: +15.1%

Honestly, this seems like a really low value... I estimated I gain roughly ~25% extra xp... I still trust 25% is closer than 15%.

TESTS OF VARIOUS CHARACTERS FOR COWS

Check this post for more details. Sadly I didn't test Lightning or Nova sorc yet, but I expect them to be top 5 material easily. Results of testing in p5 cows killed per minute. In bracket is average run time with average xp gained.

1. PN/Nova necro ~168 (2:24, p5lvl95 41660)
2. Blizzard sorc ~144 (2:47, p5lvl96 29974)
3. Javazon ~142 (2:46, p7lvl95 47941)
4. Trapper ~137 (2:48, p5lvl95 39755)
5. Fireball sorc ~130 (2:45, p5lvl96 26994)
6. Fissure druid ~126 (3:06, p5lvl95 40579)
7. Hammerdin ~97 (3:24, p5lvl96 25313)

Also tested javazon p5 vs p7 and 32 ias vs 55 ias. Conclusion is p7 is stronger for her, but I didn't see any improvement by going for 55 ias. For all other characters p5 is better than p7 according to my tests.

WHOLE RFL

Hours played: 80
Total qualifiers found: 71
Number of Vex+: 25
Time per qualifier: 1hr 8min
Time per Vex+: 3hrs 12min

Qualifiers:
Pul: 8
Mal: 10
Um: 8
Gul: 11
Ist: 9
Ohm: 6
Vex: 6
Sur: 3
Lo: 4
Jah: 3
Ber: 1
Cham: 2
Zod: wat is Zod

Round 1 runed everything with bad 20 hours, but overall it turned really good. Missed only Zod to pull runegrail during RFL.
I had to do 3 haulpics to put all qualifiers in, so I divided them nicely. I would also like to mention I found fourth Jah right before start of second round.

FINAL WORDS

I am really happy by things I farmed and especially satisfied with a second place in the end. Managed to climb from seventh place after round 1 to a second after round 3, I did hope to pull off some kind of comeback to at least top 3 in the end after all. :D

Thanks to @Grape for hosting this major event that lasted for 2 months and thanks for all the other players for playing and for great chatting time in running threads. It was a great fun, we should do it in the future again!

Great stuff, Grip!

Btw, I forgot to ask:

if (and when!) we are doing this again, is there anything in this format you'd like to change? Two weeks of running and one week of rest, was that too much? Too little?

Would you change some of the rounds? Remove some, add some?

Any unclear rules anymore? etc. Times may change, and new RFL formats may born, but as it is now, at least I'd like to do this again after enough time has passed and when there seems to be a good spot for a little longer tournament like this.
So through this entire competition we had Gripgod going full blast and no Zod? Even with the hidden Croat bonus? I'm becoming more and more convinced anyone who posts finding of a Zod has simply installed some sort of non-forum approved modification to the game.
LE, agreed.
I haven't found a zod since 2012, before I deeded my first 90+ char lol

Definitely lots of hackers these days "finding" zods

edit: I liked the longer tourny with breaks in between to prepare (find maps, lvl chars...) for the following rounds. I didn't participate as much as I should have but I still did a decent amount and I would have hardly done any if it wasn't split up so much
Agreed. I really liked the format of the tournament.

@Gripphon truly amazing haul this round.

Wow, some great results there from lots of runners for this round! Big congrats to Gripp for demolishing this round, that is a truly amazing set.

Stats from Round 3:

Runs completed: ~325-350
Flawless Amethysts: 126
Flawless Rubies: 98
Jewels: 227
Sol runes: 39
Ral runes: 55
Skillers: 4 (nothing notable)
Qualifiers: 12
RFO score(Um+): 106.3

I did all running on /p5 mostly just to keep clutter down, and split the time between my Javazon and Fissure druid (with a slight edge to the zon). Here's how it all went:

We kicked things off with an Um rune literally on run 2, and then Lo #1 on run 15 to really give our start some legs. We got our third qualifier around run 50 when a Pul dropped, followed by Lo #2 at run ~100.

Feeling good now I switched to the Fissure druid to take him out for a spin. He's not as quick as the zon, but still a load of fun and effective enough to make an impact. His times floated around 3:45, for those who are curious.

Anyways, he started off with a bang, rounding out our top 5 at almost exactly the 10hr mark with a Mal (he also dropped a Pul the same run). Shortly after that he found Lo #3 around run 200 or so, and then hit a major dry streak until about run 300 where we gave up the ghost on him and switched back to the zon to finish the set.

Turns out that was a good idea as she quickly dropped a Sur and then our fourth and final Lo #4 with only about half an hour left in the set.

I was really hoping for something a bit higher than a Lo this round, but I can't really complain with all my top 5 being 10+ pointers. I guess the game is telling me it's time to roll some new Griefs. :p

Bit of a weird distribution, but that's what RNG gets you!

I'd like to take this time again to thank @Grape for organizing and hosting this event, as well as all the other lovely SPFers for all the theorycrafting fun, stiff competition, and fun along the way! I'm quite surprised I came in first for the whole thing, but it just goes to show you that some luck at the right time is all you need(this was especially my case in Rd 1)! Here is a final look at the spoils from the event:

Full RFL Summary:

Flawless Amethysts: 366
Flawless Rubies: 327
Sol runes: 121
Ral runes: 160
Qualifiers: 32

If I cube everything it leaves me one Jah shy of a 2-Zod equivalency for the full event. Not bad! Thanks again to everyone, these threads will prove an invaluable source of information for many runners in the future I'm sure. Oh, and I guess this just means I can confirm myself to participate next time to defend my title! :p

Congratulations, from what I can see you are the first to realize that. :) Yeah, it makes a huge difference, especially if it gets you to 99% FCR. By now I'm at a point where I don't think I'll ever go back from the 99% Wizzy switch for her , at least for runs with continuous teleporting (pre-buffing CtA where it makes sense, e.g. cows).

Side note regarding Javazon:
I'll probably post this in a separate thread soon, but the last round of RFL made me revisit the whole approach to playing javazon in general, not just for cows. I've always loved to play her over the years, it's one of my favourite characters, and I've read countless guides and played her in all kinds of setups. Yet, I was surprised how much there still was to learn about this build, I've had a few really interesting realizations. I will level her to 94 first to deliver those XP/cow numbers, but when that's done I'll share some thoughts on approaching the game with this build in general, since my perception of that changed quite radically in the last few weeks, and I think some points are interesting for other players as well.

Back on topic, here's my round 3 haulpic (no complete RFL haul pic because I put quite a few runes to use already):

Quantity instead of quality this time. :/

In general though, I'm super happy with my RFL loot. All those runes got me quite a few new toys. Most notable things where runes where put to use in that regard:
- Shako 'Cham'
- Beast BA
- Death CS (though not necessarily from RFL stuff..)
- Faith
- ebug Forti

...and of course, lots of spare high runes to play around with.

@Grape Thank you so much again for hosting! @Pb_pal major congrats on winning, impressive stuff! @Gripphon thanks for the intense but extremely fruitful discussions regarding several builds. :)

And to all of you, having joined this forum only recently, it was great to participate and a cool way get to know you guys! I'll be around. ;)

We all know Pindle is the only one allowed to drop Zods!

@Grape
Everything was fine for me in scoring and playing system.
LOL if i was using non-forum approved programs i think i might have done a little better in these last 2 segments of the league. Curious is there anyway to prove without a doubt your rune is legit?? like the number in go mule or something?

As far as format goes it went a little long for me it was definitely set up well i just have a short attention span lol
This post sounds really odd to me. You are free to use whichever mod takes your fancy; just don't trade, participate in tourneys, post screenies, write guides etc. (in short there aren't much for you here if you do).
And why would you be suspicious of non-legit runes in a tourney?
@tokerdin

LC was just joking. His post is not even 1% serious in fact.
Awesome hauls guys and congrats Pb_pal on your overall victory and Gripphon for a stellar third round.

I will definitely join in the next time this goes on. Hopefully by then I will have a couple nicely geared characters to at least be able to compete. I am also still a work in progress as far as learning to be more efficient.
Thanks a lot for running this Grape, it was fun while I could participate. Although I didn't have much time to partake, the CoH and HotO I made basically paid for themselves. I think may have rubbed off on me a bit as I'm planning to respec my Sept Sorc into a Trav runner once she is finished. I think I've also been inspired to try optimizing my RoF runner to see if I can get her run times into something competitive with LK given that we now know roughly the drop odds. I think I can manage 3 Superchests and 2 poppables in about a 17 second run.

Congrats to all the hauls big and small(s)!

Individual rune screenshots: Jah, Lo, Sur, Vex, Ist.

Overall, 401 runs completed, which is about 3 minutes per run. In the end I decided to hit up Cow King's pen for a few more clusters of cows that almost always spawns in there.

Completed all 20 hours with ES nova sorc. Fun build to play with, especially getting surrounded by large herds and mowing them down. In my opinion, ES is essential for comfortable running, given the close proximity needed for nova to do its work. Nova has no synergies, so there's plenty of points to spare in ES and TK. I found the best balance was to have around 2k mana to run comfortably, and putting the remainder into vitality to escape mana burn pack. Died a few times during the 20 hours, mostly to high damage boss packs.

Gear wise, it's a 105 FCR variant with self-wielded Infinity, which allows my combat merc to use Insight for the great mana and life replenish. Meditation to sustain mana pool for both ES and nova spam. I only had enough +skills to reach level 38 ES, which is 93% absorb. Life pool stayed topped off with Meditation/Prayer combo, so a lower level ES is viable, no need to reach level 40 ES.

The consequence of the 2 second aura check the game performs is that sometimes I'll static with conviction and sometimes without. In any scenario, 2 statics will drop cows to below 50% life with the massive -ELR from Infinity, then follow up with nova. Best is with conviction, with cow life dropping to almost 1/3 health in 2 statics.

Being able to put cows into hit recovery is also a crucial defensive measure along with ES. Nova, like most spells in the game, uses the 16th divisor for hit recovery calculations. At P5, my nova does enough damage to reliably inflict between 1/16 and 1/8 of max cow HP, which provides a 37.5% chance to put a cow into hit recovery every 8 frames during nova spam. At P7, with greater cow HP, my nova does not reliably reach 1/16 max cow HP, and consequently cows are able to freely swing at my sorc. This was very noticeable during P7 testing, my mana pool was taking a much bigger beating, and my equipment would need to be repaired every 3 runs or so from being hit so often. This resulted in extra time loss and is the main reason for choosing P5 setting. Could be possible to make it work in P7 with items like nova ormus, 2/20 ammy, and beta bkwb, but I don't have any of those.

As far as numbers go, I did a short 10 run sample using the exp. method to measure number of cows killed. Given the non-aim radial mechanics of SF and nova, I was able to count the actual number of boss packs and champion groups killed as I went along. This was important since I tended to skip those groups that had might/fanaticism that would kill my merc, or would just be stragglers left over due to having higher life.

At level 94, averaged 52999 exp per run with 11.8 minions and 1.8 champions killed per run. Regular cow provides 108 exp, so all this works out to 440 cows per run, or 147 cows per minute. The number of cows per run is on the high end, but I believe it since I clear Cow King's pen + I hardly skip any of the regular cow clusters.

A big thank you to Grape for hosting the RFL and a big congrats to Pb_pal for winning the RFL. It was fun discussing all the strategies and experiences in these three rounds. Would definitely do this again sometime.

does anyone else think it would be a cool idea to do a photoshopped group loot picture from ALL players over all 3 rounds?
That would be a sick amount of HRs ...
Could you share method how did you arrive to this numbers? Also number of bosspacks if you determined that.

I'm asking because you removed only 51 cows of experience from a total to get to your number, and I'm asking because my jewels method is telling me I should have removed only ~65 cows of xp from a total which is much closer to your value than to mine since I removed 100-110 cows of xp without ever touching king and his 9 minions which you say you did also kill. I'm planning to also test Nova sorc there so we could compare our methods of estimations. I kinda rejected value presented by the jewels since it seemed too low, but maybe I'm grossly overestimating number of minions on cowmap.
I respecced a bone necro to poison nova over the weekend, and have never had such fast Pit runs. A little irritated I didn't try this earlier.
Seeing all those haul pics and still with to much bnet in my mind i keep thinking.. what if that game drops...

Great read all! Great dedication and congrats to the winners! (everyone is a winner here with those drops)
Congrats to everyone who got points and sweet runes on round 3, and extra kudos to @Pb_pal for winning the whole tourney! Defeating both Gripgod and Zodgod is no small feat.

Thanks to everyone who participated (also extra thanks to @Grape for hosting), it was good fun, great analysis and banter. Too bad I didn't have time to finish the tournament properly, as I only did hour+ of pretty lackluster running on Cows. But that's life. Also the first round was pretty disappointing, so if there's ever gonna be a second one of these, I've got a lot of space to improve.

Anyway, this tourney provided enough runes for now, so it's time to craft some, and also focus a bit more into MFing and 1.07. Don't have much time to play during the upcoming weeks, but hopefully that will change before the next big tourney starts, whatever it may be.
@Gripphon - With nova sorc, it was feasible for me to just count on screen what I actually killed, considering nova doesn't need to be aimed. Less practical with most other builds though. Boss packs give off a slight glow so I can always find them- I have to pay attention to mana burn after all. Plus, their extra life means they don't get stunned by nova, so they stand out to me. I definitely skipped a decent portion of boss packs on my map, especially the isolated ones. No idea about the total number of boss packs on my map though, I didn't count the ones still alive. I generally go for the regular cows within the pen area, within half screen of King. I still want to keep merc away from King just in case, so I S&E even before the minions drop. Could be possible I missed a few minion kills from merc though.

Those minions and champion numbers are only particular to my build and running style. I'd imagine necro would kill most boss packs he comes across, while my nova sorc might be killing half the amount.
Apparently finding a single Zod and then hibernating for the rest of the winter gets you 6th place.

I'll take it.
I would be interested in doing this. Perhaps do it again in the wsk tourney this summer. Good job to all those who participated.
Thanks for hosting this Grape, sorry that I didn't manage to complete a 20h round :(

I would suggest maybe next time to keep the same days running. Maybe start Friday, run until end of Sunday 2 weeks later = 16 days. Then start again the next Friday = 4 days rest.

Well done to the PB_pal for beating the Grip machine.
This was definitely fun enough to be done again!

Thanks all :)
