Welcome to the first Zodthon! In this thread players sign-up and talk about Zodthon related stuff. Anyone with a legit trade profile can compete. So, sign up and let the fun begin!

What is Zodthon?
Zodthon is contest where we farm runes in various areas during 2 week period and basically ultimate goal is to find Zod! For Hel+ runes players get points based on rarity of the rune (not its level) and at the end each player posts top 5 highest scored runes to get the final score.
Apart from farming runes, here players also farm items. Secondary fun part of a contest is to farm items, post your top 5 items (it is completely your choice what will you put in your top 5, but runes are excluded), and then other players vote for top 3 (again, it is completely up to you who will you choose among top 3 and why). It is similar to Pindlethon.

When is Zodthon?
Starts in saturday 5th March at 00:00, ends in friday 18th March 11:59pm.

Rules and info

1.
Areas we run are: all reas on Hell diffictuly, but check point 2 on forbidden areas.

2. Strictly forbidden areas: Countess, LK superchests, Travincal, any superchests (like in River of Flame, you can open them, but runes from in there don't count for Zodthon) and no Hellforge runes.

3. Only HELL difficulty and only 1.13 version of the game.

4. Unlimited format - you play as much as you want to during the duration of the event with any character you want and in any area you want. You can combine characters and areas to your liking. Check again first rule. Also any player settings, it is up to you.

5. Upon signing up you must post the link to your trade profile. If you don't have legit trade profile, you are not allowed to participate. Ideally, signup would look like this: Gripphon
If you are having trouble creating links like that, then simply post your name and link to your trade profile next to it and I'll do it for you.

6. Hel+ runes are scored. In the end, you send your score of top 5 runes you found (or less if you don't have top 5). It is strictly forbidden to cube up runes! Also you must send screenshots of all Vex+ top 5 runes you found (or Ohm+ since Vex has higher score than Ohm :p). In case of a tie, we check players sixth best rune and so on.

7. Fun part of event: In the end each player lists top 5 items he found during the event with readouts (runes are excluded). Items are completely up to you, there is no rule what items should you choose to be your top 5. Then, other players vote by naming 3 other participants in order of preference. Your top player will get 3 points, second will get 2 points and third will get 1 point. Voting will start on saturday 19th March and will last that weekend. Player who get most points will win that fun contest.

8. INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT RULE! If you run cow level, you must play with diablo sounds on!

Yeah right. Just kidding. There is no eight rule. Have fun everyone!

Scoring

Scoring is based on rarity of runes, not level. System is same as on RFO.

Hel 0.5
Io 0.7
Lum 0.9
Ko 1.3
Fal 1.7
Lem 2.6
Pul 3.4
Mal 5.0
Um 5.1
Gul 7.1
Ist 7.5
Ohm 10.1
Vex 10.6
Sur 13.7
Lo 15.1
Jah 18.3
Ber 20.5
Cham 27.5
Zod 71.8

Top 5 highest scorers make your final score.

Prizes
Winner takes 4 items of his choice
Second placed player may take 3 items of his choice
Third placed player may take 2 items of his choice
Everyone else may take 1 item of their choice

HC players have advantage at taking HC items, and Vanilla players have advantage of taking vanilla items first before anyone else for fairness. Any player may refuse to take any item if he wants to.
Every item is valued as 1 item, with some exceptions. 100 pgems count as 1 item as does 50 runes lower than Pul.

zticazzy 1.13 SC vanilla
frozzzen 1.13 SC with some 1.07 items

Sounds like fun! If I can drag myself away from Grim Dawn and my teaching duties, I'll give this a go but I'll wait until closer to the date to make sure I can fit it in.
Count me in. Can't wait to be gripphed once again.

Silly question, why do you need a trade profile? Sounds a bit like a MFO where it was about competing, vs your trade status/how you play.
There is still a chance to be some kind of prize system, I want that option open. Also, via trade profiles you see certain info about the players, the way they play the game etc. Quite handy and useful piece of info if you ask me. Only inconvenient part is for players who have no intention of trading so they don't wanna bother to create trade profile, but IMO if MFO has long tradition behind with such requirements, I'm inclined to think here shouldn't be a problem here either. Those players might simply create their trade profile and state in it they don't want to trade, but just created trade profile to participate at tournaments with such requirement.
Ok, so perhaps it just needs a bit of rewording.

"Welcome to the first Zodthon! In this thread players sign-up and talk about Zodthon related stuff. Anyone with a legit trade profile can compete (for a possible prize)."

I've never traded, but if I had time, I'd like the idea of spending some time to see how much luck compares with others. Sometimes that is the extra motivation needed for a good push.
Seems cool, but I haven't touched the game in ~7 months. runes + uniques/etc. sounds hype, though.

Why not Zodathon?
Gripphon, I'm in baby. Just posted my Trader profile too. lol
Can some1 point me in the way of a run counter thingy? I use Win 7 btw. Chur brothers and sisters.
Silo's Advanced Run Counter straight from page 1 of the Game Changes sticky. For lowest likelihood of problems, just extract it to your Documents or Desktop.

I assume he's rebelling against logic and reason.

Good luck to all the eventual losers; grip doesn't need any. I should be able to supervise if need be, but if anybody else really wants the job, feel free.
Yay, I'm in for sure. Planning to do some cows with fire sorc, pits with a fresh re-spec'd nec (poison) and maybe something else, too. Not sure how much I'll run.

@pharphis you still have some of you chars? If so, gogogo! We want Zod God to participate!

I still have my 1.13 chars and most gear iirc
Well now, THAT would be a poetic storyline.

"The Zod God comes out of retirement to win the first Zodthon. His top 5 runes are all Zods. He puts them all in a 5os Phase Blade and vanishes back to retirement, awaiting the next Zodthon."
Places with monster who have Act 5 (H) Good treasure class can drop a Zod. Besides what was mentioned by Gripphon, what other places are options?
ActI - Pit level 1, Pit level 2
ActI - Cow Level
ActII -
Ancient Tunnels
ActIV - River of Flame
, Chaos Sanctuary (+ Diablo if you want to)
ActV - Worldstone Keep all levels, Throneroom (+ Baal if you want to)
ActV - Pindleskin, Nihlathak and his area

Is the Seven Tombs of Act II eligible?
@Grape

I think farming Wirt's Legs is also a part of running cows, and as such I don't think it would be fair to farm them before the actual event. As during event, farm them as you please ofc.

@pharphis
Zodthon because to me it sounds better than Zodathon which sounds kind of weird. However, I don't really care, we could rename it to Zodathon if people prefer that more.

@Friiser
I think whole act 5 and act 4 can drop Zod + surely some specific areas before.
As for your question, I think they drop up to Cham.
@Gripphon - requesting some statistics regarding drop probabilities on a 200 fcr hork barb that does nothing but horks Pindle's garden.

LC,

Probability is 0.5

You either get Zod or you don't. Happy to help an old teammate!
@LiquidClear
That is a cool idea. If you can hork whole garden in like 20 seconds with 55% item find, you are as efficient as some cow runner clearing cows in 3 and a half minutes pretty much. Gogogo

Actually, it's terrible. Killing 12-14 cows in 20 seconds is probably more efficient than that
So you people want a prize eh? I have a bunch of items in a GoMule stash (aka pile of junk) that I'm willing to offer to the SPF community, Gripph thinks it'd be nice to post the readouts here. They were collected by my previous char (SC 1.13 vanilla), and I don't care to use them for other builds, since I realised I don't like twinking. Most of them are low level grailers and other assorted junk, but some are worth a look. I have 2 Windforce, 3 eth reaper's, 4 Vex, 3 Ohm, skillers, random utility items, and so on. I also have a few (441) low runes from el to lem in another stash, but I'm having difficulties extracting the readout (30 Ral btw).
Here we go:

Zticazzy, sometimes I wonder about you. An Io rune? Centaurian? Full Juvy? A 4 socket highland blade? A white diadem? Then BAM 5/5 cold facet.
First of all, big thanks to @zticazzy for willingness to donate items into prize pool. I think it is worth to try to create prize system to see how it works. And I thought about some tips on how to make it work nicely. So, some tips about prize system:

1. Any player can donate any item he has into Zodthon prize pool. Amount of items is off limits, but please check other points below to have a better prize system overall. Also you are able to donate item you found during Zodthon into prize pool as well (why not?).

2. When donating items into prize pool, please state the nature of your game (SC, HC, Vanilla etc), post readouts of items which you want to donate into prize pool and also post quantity of certain items you donated. I really think it is best NOT to post readouts of all 200 Rals you want to donate, simply post readout of one and state how many of them are you donating. Same of any pgems. Readouts are mandatory for higher level runes ofc despite the number.

It will be simpler to edit posts with prizes if I don't have like 2000 items in it due to someone posting readouts of all 300 pgems or whatever he wants to donate. I hope you understand that kind of reasoning. I can count them myself and post single readout, but it would be cool if you do that yourselves.

3. When donating items, consider what kind of items are you donating. You wish to donate for example El rune or Ko rune, but do you think anyone will actually take those as a prize? Or if you for example want to donate some cheap set item or near useless unique item. Ask yourself does it make sense to donate such items and is there anyone who might be willing to take those as a prize. I'd like we have prizes that could actually be useful to someone or that someone might be willing to take them as a prize, instead of donating cheap useless items no one will even look at. That way everything will be more tidy and less cluttered.

4. What are sensible items to donate? You don't think you have anything other players might use? Well, I think anyone has pgems and crafting runes in some quantity, right? Well, those are items even the rich players would take as a prize. So, anyone is welcome to donate those as well.

5. Item packages. Now, I'd like to introduce idea of item packages. Naturally any item will be 1 item package, with some exceptions. I think 100 pgems is sensible to be 1 item package as well as 50 crafting runes. Why would we need item packages I'll explain further.

6. First place takes 3 item packages, second place takes 2 and third place take 1 item package. Players are not allowed to take their own items (well, whats the point in donating them then?). So this is why I think item packages would be useful to have.

7. Taking prize system: first of all we must pay attention to trading rules. Well I think it is fine for anyone to take any item as a prize or reminder of Zodthon he participate in, but beware not to take a SC item while you are HC player and then use it on your characters. I'm sorry, SC non-vanilla players will be privileged in that kind of prize system, but what can I do about that.

So, what do other players think of this prize system? We could make players be allowed to take more prize item packages than 3-2-1 as I thought. Rest of the items will obviously stay at their owners. Also I thought not all players need to donate items to prize pool, only those who are willing to do it. Obviously it would be best if everyone can donate something, even if we talk about small number of pgems and crafting runes or whatever.

Also since we are dealing with trading rules right now, I'd like Thyiad to say a word of two of advice about all this.
Sounds nice. I won't be claiming any items (and I don't expect to finish in top 3 either), but I could make some item donation.

What kind of items would people want to see in my package? I'm not planning to give away my best items, but there's many many very decent ones that won't see any use in my own hands. I'm also keeping my crafting materials and pgms as I'm just that greedy ;)

I can for example give 1-2 of my Death's Fathoms, maybe 1-2 Death's Webs etc. away. As long as it would give people a nice incentive to run (and more ppl to participate) more. It would be nice to see some great drops.
obv donations would be perfect ethereals with sockets for proper use of all the Zods the winner will find
Hah, I may have a spare eth Occulus or two somewhere... :p

Zod God tournament accepts only self-found items though, but ofc there's nothing wrong putting a Zod to a gifted/won item!
A few non-green thoughts.

I would suggest a limit on items or you could potentially wind up with about 20k items. I know how you people hoard (says the woman with a 20k item atma stash).

I agree with 300 x <readout> rather than a gigantic spoiler of doom of Hel runes.

This could vary on the type of items. Someone just starting out in HC is going to be happy to see very different stuff than someone on their eights 99'er in SC.

Also rares, socketables ..

Personally I think packages are a great idea. It could also potentially streamline the item list. EG runes, crafting packs, Necro pack, FCR pack, resist packs, charms pack etc. Lots of options here. "Outfit my 200% fcr sorc" pack.

Are the packs going to be from one person, or are you going to put a pack together from lots of people?

Is it pot luck or do people put packs together and the winners choose?

I think most HC players know this. Perhaps if they want to do a little SC char, a starter pack might be useful? Although if they can play HC, I suspect a SC starter pack isn't necessary! Perhaps gets thoughts from HC players?

Anything specific that you require addressed?

@thy
I'll answer on your post later.
Thx Gripp. I'd hate 4 Thy to pull out the big hurty stick (BAN!!) lol
I thought about setting limit on items one player can donate into prize pool, as strange as it sounds. Don't know is that any good idea or simply anyone can donate whatever he wants (I'd still want for items donated to have some kind of sense).

I think my idea of item packages is misunderstood. To explain it with other terminology, what I had in mind was that every single item counts as 1 item toward prize system (ring, amulet, charm etc), but some items make no sense to count as 1 item in prize system (for example pgems. Who on earth would take 1 pgem as a prize?). So, my suggestion was that certain items (crafting runes, pgems) are counted differently. My suggestion was that 100 pgems count as 1 item as well as 50 crafting runes to be counted as 1 item.

That would mean that if winner takes 3 items as prize, he could take like 1 charm, 1 ring and 100 pgems (100 pgems counting as 1 item, right), or for example 200 pgems and 1 ring (total of 3 items). I just called that item package, and now explained it with terminology "item" instead.

My idea is that winner picks total of 3 items from whole prize pool (his own items excluded) and takes them as a prize. Then second placer takes 2 items etc. That is an idea. I didn't have in mind doing some fcr or whatever packages, simply taking item by item as a prize for placement.

Also I could extend number of items taken by each player, so for example for top 5 places to be able to take prize item if they like, with amount 5-4-3-2-1 depending on placement.

@Grape
It is up to you if you want to donate valuable items into prize pool.

I'll add some items to prize pool myself these days, mostly what I crafted and probably some charms.
I might join this. Chances are real I end up last (limited playing time and low efficiency), but it sounds like a fun way to start things up with this fine community.

Am I correct that I can already create a Trade Profile and as such participate, despite only being around since February 12?
T,

You should probably PM Thyiad to confirm that you're eligible to trade here. I don't know what being on that other site entails, but if your SP characters have interacted with other peoples' characters from other forums etc, definitely PM Thy so she knows what's going on.

Took out froz 1.07 Shako due to finding use for it for other player, I'm sorry. But am making up for it with additional items: two 5/5 facets and ruby jewel of fervor since people seem to like those.
Prize system:

First place takes 4 items of his choice
Second place takes 3 items of his choice
Third place takes 2 items of his choice
Everyone else take 1 item of their choice

This would be cool imo.

Now, sign up people.
Cool prizes, some juicy stuff in there for sure!

Not that I expect to win, but I'll pose the question anyways. If a self-found-only player (such as myself) wins (or even comes 2ndm, 3rd), do the prizes bump down to the next person or does it become void if the person chooses not to claim any?

ie. Self-found player wins 1st place and chooses not to claim. does 2nd place then get 4 items, or 3?
I will have to get a char leveled and geared for the next contest, this seems like a lot of fun.

There are some very nice prizes now that's awesome. I also just wanted to post my 2 cents about the prizes. I know not everyone is going to want to take the prizes or there may be leftover prizes. I was wondering if it was possible to create some sort of SPF prize pool for all contests and/or tournaments.

As in, when a new contest starts up, the leftover(if there are any) prizes are transferred over to the next tournament. People could also donate items at any point toward this prize pool.

This could work for tournaments also if the person starting it wanted to ask the forum or whoever is taking care of the prizes for a prize pack or a single item for the participants to compete for. I was just thinking this could add more incentive to keep playing and posting on the forum for some players.

If this is out of the question then forget about it and I will not feel bad at all lol. Just a thought

Nice that everyone gets something, there's clearly enough wealth for all the contenders. As for me, I'm running with my purist untwinked blah blah char, so I won't offer nor loot any item of those found during the competition.
One caveat about the allowed areas: let's say one wants to run LK, excluding superchests as you said. Zod can definitely drop there (I remember a screenshot of a guy getting Zod from a boss pack), so one can choose that area, right? Now, wouldn't it be unfair to run the place at p7 and pop things until the top 5 is composed by HRs only? One can obviously say enemies were killed in the process, and it'll be fine. What I'm trying to say is that the whole LK area is unbalanced and should be excluded, along with other areas filled with poppables, to avoid cheesy victories. Or are we allowing this tactic as well? I'm also asking because I'm planning to add LK runs to my routine hoping to find some easy jewels and runes (don't worry, those from superchests won't be added to my score) and I want to know what to do in case I pop some qualifiers.
I'm guessing you won't be eligible to trade. Anni plus torch ate not forum accepted mods
Sorry, I should have been more clear. I know my SC characters are a no-go when it comes to trading or participating in tournaments like this. The plan is to participate with my HC characters, who have never interacted with anyone else, and have only been using FAMs (RWM to be precise). They are also using a seperate stash in GoMule, which is also 'clean' according to the rules here.

By reading the forum rules, I thought I could see my SC and HC characters as seperate instances, and as such create a trade profile and participate in tournaments. Just let me know if this is not the case.
I think that's right.declaring and keeping things seperate should be fine
The only person who can tell you if you are eligible to trade here or not is Thyiad, the forum moderator. As Fabian said you should PM her to ask for the official stance on what you're intending to do.
Thanks. I sent Thyiad a pm right after my last post.
Trading and taking part of the tournament aren't linked. Only contributions or taking prizes matters for your status.
Trading and taking part of this tournament is linked, you must have a valid trading profile.
I don't know what possible reason you have for assuming this distinction exists, but regardless of from whence the idea came it does match reality. To participate in this tournament you have to have a trader profile. Making a trader profile means you are stating that you are eligible to trade by this forum's rules. Stated another way: being unable to trade means you are not allowed to make a trader profile, further meaning you are not allowed to participate in tournaments requiring you to have a trader profile.

Please don't state things as facts which aren't true to someone who is new and trying to learn how the forum works, because it undermines everyone else. Even more to the point, please do not attempt to make your own judgement in complicated situations and pass them off as the forum's rules. All questions about trade eligibility should be taken to the moderator and nobody else because only the moderator can make those decisions. Nobody else should be telling anyone whether something is okay or not if the whole matter is in question because nobody else has the power to make that call. I understand people want to try to be helpful but the most helpful you can be when someone is asking how the rules work is to tell them to ask the person who enforces the rules and not potentially confuse the matter.

I apologize if that comes off as harsh, but this forum has a length rules list and it has them for a reason. Getting people familiar with them is a bit of a hassle, but they're in place to maintain the integrity of what's been built here. Giving false information to someone who is just getting a handle on the ropes throws a wrench in everything and is very annoying to have to deal with. We all make mistakes and I'm not trying to insult your or throw you under the bus, I'm just saying to please be extra careful when giving advice to people who are new around here.
I appear to stand corrected
Because there seems to be so little hype regarding this tournament about finding the least useful rune in the game I've decided to try and build some up the best way I know how: by talking over a static image and then also talking over moving images!

I did a little overview with some game play for a few of what I considered the more interesting builds and targets for the Zodathon. Hopefully seeing these videos and how awfully I play, combined with the knowledge that I've won several MF tournaments, is enough to give hope to anyone watching to sign up and lose terribly to Grip have a great time playing Diablo 2.

Surely I'll regret this. Not intending to seriously participate, probably just stream a few sets of runs if/when I have some spare time. Unless I decide to be the hero of the people, try really hard, and get crushed under foot by the deus ex gripina.
I've had a chat with T72on1 - do we allow Terminators in this tourney? - and he's fine on HC.

I will be sending something for the prize stash but not until the weekend.

I did a couple of practice runes and got three Bers, a Sur and a Zod.

Ok that was a dream but I think it's a good sign.
Thanks Thyiad :).

In that case I'm definitely in. I'll create a trade profile tomorrow and link it here, as I have to go now. Really looking forward to it.

I'm undecided yet, but I'll probably mainly be running my Blizz Sorc, with AT as source. I don't have an Enigma, so all my other characters most likely are much slower than her. I do happen to have an Infinity in HC (2x Ber are the only HRs I have found in HC so far, except for a Sur a few years back), so when I get bored of the Sorc I'll probably do some Cow and Pit runs with my Furyzon anyway. I'm also leveling my Venomancer some more (currently in NM Act 5), so he can do Hell Pits, but his gear isn't really good, so that's mainly to have a backup in case I happen to wreck my Sorc and Furyzon.
I'm signing up but I probably won't play much. Will find my trade profile later.
Prizes don't bump down. Any player can choose not to take any items or he can choose to take less items than he is allowed to (winner can take only 1 item despite being able to take 4 etc.)

Nah. People might reconsider giving items to prizes, and basically it is not problem to say in one post what is player donating every tournament.

I don't think it would be unfair to run poppables. If someone thinks that is faster way of farming runes, well then he can do testing on it. If poppables are indeed superior in drop chances for runes, then other people might consider running poppables to farm runes next time!
That is nice effort there @maareek also nice videos. Seeing them I decided it is time to dust off my cownec since Zodthon is in less than 24 hours. For some reason when I record, I have some strange lag and it is very annoying. But here it is anyway. Some hybrid necro running cows (actually 90% summoner since pnova is just support skill here). Also dedicated summoner could be better, but I have no intention in making him even more popular than it already is. Let's leave question mark there :p
This nec can go sub 3 minute running from time to time anyway.

Every tactics I use is on video. I would suggest to skip those low counted isolated cow packs to not lose time or even proceed further after few are left. It is up to you, I like big piles of cows to kill instead. On video I could kill some leftovers near corpses, but I was kind of annoyed with that lag and didn't pay attention.

As for those two charms I showed at beginning, I got them from a few cowruns today. Agreed.

Here is small list of donations. The BotD was Zaph's that I received from his giveaway thread. I made a pat with it and now feel like someone else can get a chance. I plan on having a new zod anyways :) The other stuff is kind of random semi useful stuff that can be annoying to not have at the beginning.

Edit: I got my Venomancer to Hell Pits yesterday, but even on /p5 he just isn't fast enough compared to my Furyzon (on /p8). No surprise really, as he doesn't have a single skiller and no Death's Web. So like I said, I'll mainly be using my Blizz Sor (in AT I guess, although that /p7 Pindle video seemed interesting, is he really a good target for anything else than a Barb?). Although I don't have Enigma, my Furyzon shouldn't be too slow in Hell Cows if I finally can drag myself away from my old (and bad) habit of wanting to kill every single enemy, instead of just focusing on big packs. So she'll surely get some playing time as well.

Good luck everyone :). I'll only be starting tomorrow evening my time (in about 33 hours time). Just to give everyone a headstart of course ...

Since I reached my seasonal goal in D3, I'll be joining this tourney. Most likely Pit necro on players 7, without Death's Web.

One silly little question though: Does Infinity help that much with killspeed for poison necro on players 7? My merc is currently using a nice Obedience with Treachery and whatever leech helm I have, so he tears down mobs quite fast.

P.s.: I add my name to the list when I get home.
-85% resistance on 50% of the damage from your main kill spell is a big deal, yes. It's not a day and night difference; either way is fine, but Infinity does come out ahead. Obedience gives the merc more damage than he has with Infinity, but having Infinity on the merc makes the runs overall more consistent and faster.
Infinity doesn't help at all with Poison damage, as it only decreases elemental (fire, lightning, cold) resistance. It's a really good runeword on it's own though, even without the Conviction aura. But so is Obedience ...

Edit: ninja'd by maareek. And I also stand corrected, as I only thought about the poison part of a Venomancer. While CE obviously means a lot in terms of killing speed too ...
I don't use Infinity in Pit, but roughly difference between having Insight merc or Infinity merc + Insight golem is roughly ~3-5 seconds for me (1:05-1:10 cca avg), so... you could do without and be fine. Not on cows though, there it has much bigger impact.
I tend to run Obedience and Insight golem, but tonight I'm gonna do some testruns to find out which one is faster :)
O yes, since I have only quite recently started in HC, I haven't got any items to add to the prize pool. Not something anyone would find useful anyway, I'd think. Obviously I won't claim any prizes either, if I get that far.*

*far easier to say when you know you won't even come close to winning ...
Well, everyone has a chance to win in here. Zod drop is what will 99% make a winner, which is exactly the point of tourney anyway. Someone finding Zod and losing is unlikely, unless someone else has toss plenty hours of playing in and had decent luck with non-Zod runes and Zod finder has like 2 Hel runes in top 5. So, pretty much Zod decides here.

Depending on how much people intend to play, I do think it is quite possible to see at least 1 Zod in here.

Also welcome to all newcomers in the contest ^^
Ladies and Gentlemen, last night I found something very interesting about the game mechanics that could affect this challenge. It's a long explanation, but it's worth a read.

First Act. Yesterday I noticed something weird in the IFT: PandadudeSP had the same exact drop pattern of a HR I found a while ago in LK, but from a random poppable, not a superchest. The items in there are rare enough to exclude a lucky coincidence, and my conclusion was that even random poppables in LK are organized in recursive patters, just like the superchests. This discovery may have an earth-shattering magnitude in a small forum like this, if only random poppables had on average more stuff to drop (and thus more runes to farm), but they are still less efficient to farm than LK superchests or Trav. So, what's the point of all this?
Second Act. Still, there's a circumstance where this fact can be exploited: the Zodthon! Here's my hypothesis: if we can prove that this rule applies to every poppable in the game and that there's at least one Zod pattern in act 5, the probability of finding Zod from act 5 pops would be way higher than the one you have by repeatedly killing cows for hours on end. The odds of Zod from 1.13d /p8 hell bovine is 1:1120383 (according to some obscure german calculator I found yesterday), while the chance of a Zod drop from poppables is 1:65536, assuming (and this is fundamental) that there's at least one Zod pattern, and that even poppables have only 65536 patterns just like superchests in LK. That means that each pop in act 5 is equivalent to roughly 17 /p8 cow kills, which means, in turn, that any average player (like me) with a fast tele character can run, say, the Frigid Highlands and pop a dozen random things and still have more chances, statistically speaking, to find Zod than a fully geared sorc killing 200 cows in the same amount of time (30 seconds? Maybe even less). And that without counting the sparkling chest laying there, which can drop Zod as well, as a jjscud's screenshot proved some time ago.
Third Act. So does such Zod pattern exist in act 5? The answer is YES, since I've witnessed it with my own eyes. Along with the rune, two greater healing potions dropped on the ground too (sadly my screenshot is lost forever, but who wants to see a paladin with 20 auras stacked together? :D). Even though I had non-legit chars at the time, the other game files were untouched, therefore that pattern does indeed exist. Do you want another proof? Here's what I found today: one guy casually recorded the same pattern (including the 2 greater healing potions) and posted it on youtube.

Some conclusions so far:
- drop patterns of random poppables are recursive and follow the same LK superchests generation rules;
- these "static" patterns seem to be present in each game act;
- they even replicate throughout different levels and different poppables (my pop was the barbarian girl, his pop a barbarian male tied to the cross in another level);
- there's at least one Zod pattern in act 5 (/p7).

Things to confirm:
- what are the clickable things included in the same category as the barb guy and barb girl? Barrels, wooden chests, barb corpses on the ground? Here I'm asking your help since I don't know how to extract this info from game files;
- is the total amount of patterns 65k just like LK superchests? I can't quite frankly answer to this but I feel like there's no reason why the devs would have changed the algorithms through which poppable drops are generated.

If what I wrote is right, then there's at least 1 Zod every 65k pops in act 5 waiting for you, and you people should consider running the place to win the competition. Keep in mind that you pop multiple objects each time, and assuming you pop 12 things per run you could get a Zod every 5.5k runs, a good result even without considering the other HR patterns yet to be discovered. As for me, I'll make Baal runs since I'm levelling there right now, but I'll surely make some Frigid Highlands sessions from time to time to test my luck.
Signing up, probably won't have much time with a 2 month old, but will try to squeeze in some runs, need to lvl my sin a bit on pindle and in the pits anyway. And might do some windy AT runs.

@zticazzy - Very interesting for sure. I don't know how to go about testing it really, but I might give a shot at running some A5 poppables during this event just as a break from my regular targets. I guess if someone has the determination they can sift through the LK patterns thread and see if any of the runes found from poppables that were posted have matching patterns.
@Pb_pal If every contender makes 500 runs, we have a solid chance to see it drop. I know it's a competition, but I don't think there will ever be a better occasion than this. I think I'm going for at least 500 runs no matter what.
Very interesting find zticazzy!

Now I wonder which of the A5 areas has the most potential for the most poppables. I'll be sure to check my maps and will also probably give this a little bit of effort. 200 fcr Howling Barb anyone? :p
I feel like the open-air areas have the highest number of poppables. That's not to say that they are in a consistent formation, or easy to make a "run" out of, but maybe quantity will rule over quality for this one.

Also, that's based on absolutely nothing so...
I thought the idea that all poppables have the 65k restriction was known, its just Superchests are essentially 1-6 (7 if locked?) chests in one poppbale so by chance, pre-1.13, they were the 'only' poppables that contained HR drops.

I dont think you're ever going to even approach LK for poppable density, that's why its such a good place to quickly get runes with weak characters.

There are a few features I've noticed from RoF maps that have about 5-7 densely packed poppables (one of them has a pentagram of chests), and a Jah was reported from a chest in the Superchest thread, but I still think you'd be way faster finding runes there just using a character that can kill stuff.
I might help with poppables testing, just need character and map and everything. Agreed. I do think cows will prove boring quite fast so a bit of going around might work fine.

Also what player settings are we talking about here? I assume p7 is a go.
Well Ive started running. Cows with Firesorc. P5. 3 runs for 33 mins! lol I prolly need to speed up a bit. Found some nice socketables - DUsk Shroud and 3 sock Archon Plate. Make a nice Treachery. Good luck all.
If someone was computer savy, they could trawl the Item Find threads for LK rune postings and get a pretty quick dataset. I'd estimate half (or more) of HRs nowadays come from poppables there
Finished with a half hour stint in the Pits with the PNovamancer. P1. Is the best approach for runes to just kill everything? Or are we targetting boss packs and champions?
Ok, Fabian and Bodry said they will play. Who else wanna join in just say it.

@Brak
That is correct.

@DaveW
Mostly bosspacks with additional creeps. When there are a lot of them (devilkin nest), you can go in and kill.

EDIT: info I posted here is bad and now I erased it.

EDIT 2
I forgot about player settings... they don't affect drop chances of bosses at all, but they DO affect creeps. On p7 killing boss is similar to killing 2.25 creeps. So in the end, correct answer is that you kill pretty much everything. You could ignore isolated creeps to not waste time though.
@Brak we're talking about having a Zod drop here, not farming runes in general. This is, I believe, the cheapest and easiest way to find one, available even to non-OP players. To find other runes and/or cube Zod there are clearly better options around. Anyway, thanks for confirming the 65k restriction thing, I didn't know it.

@Gripphon yes, that pattern is found in /p7-/p8.

Wait, what? I thought this only started on March 5th, 0:00 am? Not sure what timezone to be honest, as I figured I could only start on Saturday evening my time. Or are you just doing test runs?
It's March 4th, almost 9 pm here and I'm on GMT +2. There's plenty of zones where it is past midnight now :)
Ok, sorry about the confusion. So it's not a set time zone, everyone starts at March 5, 0:00 am his or her timezone. Same for the end date and time. Got it :).

Good luck everyone. Gonna catch up on you tomorrow evening. Blizz Sorc has been finetuned in terms of gear and will be ready to go.
gg on the Poison necro, maareek. He's definitely on my list of must have characters now that I am out of retirement and back to playing again. I already have a 5/5 Facet and a 45 Deaths Web (but its only +1 LOL ) that I got from frozzzen but I'm still short the 2/20 Ammy and Enigma armour.

Also I [highlight]never[/highlight][highlight][/highlight][highlight][/highlight] would have thought to give the Golem Infinity and put Pride on the merc so thanks for that Pro Tip. But won't the cold damage from Cham result in shattered corpses, giving you fewer opportunities to cast CE? Not sure if you are just trolling by being ironic, or if there is something painfully obvious I'm missing here.

But its been so long since I've played a Necro, and I'm embarrassed to even admit this, but what happens to the Golem if either you or him get killed? Don't you have to make a new one? 2x Ber seems awfully risky to me given that there is a good chance I end up tele'ing right into the middle of a pack of Extra Fast Fanat Enchanted Cursed Archers
My Fire Sorc has 5-8 objects near the Frozen Tundra WP. EDIT: or might be 6-9 or something, still testing..

I can do those in a circular manner and it's easy to go and run Pindle after those. I think I have a new game plan now...

@Steven Q Urkel, when Iron Golem dies (or your necro), the item it was made of is gone. So yeah, it's quite risky to run around with IG made of expensive runewords. I've had Poison Nec doing Pits only for a really short time now, but Insight IG with an Infinity merc works good for me at least.
@Gripphon so now that running poppables could be an option, I propose that we change the areas allowed to be run to include the whole A5, Zod can drop there from monsters anyway, too.
Thanks. :)

No secret formula there, I just mixed up the order in the video. Should be Pride IG and Infinity on the merc. The point of that setup is faster first corpses so, as you mention, potentially losing those corpses to shattering is no bueno. At that point you'd probably want to use a different leech hat than Vamp Gaze, as well, just to get rid of that small chance the cold damage shatters a corpse.

"If you were really baller and wanted to be a real badass" should kind of tip you off there's some serious risk involved. ;) I'm not suggesting anyone who would balk at the cost do it, but I do want to highlight that it is an option that seems to, in theory, lead to even faster runs. Personally I'd need to find 6 or 7 more Chams before I'd really consider the Pride IG option, but there are definitely more rune rich people than I out there.
I actually thought about allowing all areas in the game, with certain exceptions (Countess, superchests, Travincal, Hellforge). If someone wants to kill Blood Moor, go ahead etc. I'm not entirely sure whether to ban whole LK area due to density of poppables. I mean, doesn't matter, we can do that for the next time if it proves to be too strong.
Okay, cool. Well, I'm popping some in A5 now, along with killing Pindle
Im in NZ baby, Southern Hemisphere ftw. We see the sun before y'all do. :D

Did a half hour of mixed Act 5 Popping and Pits runs. For Act 5 I used my Mephy Sorc. She has the FCR , low Tele cost and ES to keep her safe enuff. Nice to bring her out for a spin. Carrying keys ia a must. Lots of locked chests and watnot. LOL I even rescued the soldiers and got my runes reward. Do they add to my total? Strangley tho I havent yet rescued Anya with this char, and she's level 90.

@Gripph, thx for the info. Im gonna KTA in the Pits. Im running at P1 as I dont have a DW (using Hoto and spirit.) And while P3 is doable I like speeding through there.

Might try and do another 1/2 hour before work if I gots the times.
Did a 1/2 hour of Cows, a bit faster than this morning , approx 8 ,mins per run, killing all except stragglers. Thought it'd be good to have Treachery for Merc as he's wearing Duress for some reason. (within 10 mins had the base (eth Wire Fleece with 3 sockets) and the roonz) Love it. Gotta go to work. Laters.
Oops I forgot this started at midnight, I was playing Stardew Valley. Er. Ok I'll start later. :D
Yesterday I did some testing and staying with Infinity. Today I have the nightshift, tomorrow I'm gonna start the big running.
Since Zodthon officially started, good luck everyone and have plenty of Zods fun.
Did some pindleruns last night, got my sin from 79 to 85, and had an AMAZING start!
Basically I just need one more Zod to get a perfect score :-D. You might as well all give up ;-).
The Zodthon was a very good incentive for me to finally finetune my Blizz Sorc some more. She is now running AT on /p7 at a good pace, even without skillers or Death's Fathom. And safer too, always a nice thing in HC.

Despite what I expected, I already managed to get 90 minutes of playing time in. Had a good start, I might say. It's reassuring that I already know I won't finish this tournament without any points :).

Edit: although, finding 3 Dols, even though it's at the lower end of the Spectrum, feels like the game is laughing at me for being so close to score ...

Good luck everyone !!!
I scored a jackpot today. Not an impressive charm, but it is one of rarest charms in the game. And ofc I have character waiting for it.

Code:
Toxic Small Charm of Anthrax
Small Charm
Required Level: 55
Fingerprint: 0x1789cf06
Item Level: 81
Version: Expansion 1.10+

And this, too bad its not really useful
Code:
Fletcher's Grand Charm of Sustenance
Grand Charm
Required Level: 53
Fingerprint: 0x2c6bc3b5
Item Level: 81
Version: Expansion 1.10+
+1 to Bow and Crossbow Skills (Amazon Only)
+32 to Life

EDIT

It seems I didn't mention it, but I thought to be allowed to talk about non qualifiers in this thread to be more fun. Do others agree or are we about to be completely silent these 2 weeks?
Lets talk about charms and stuff. I love the Anthrax sc-s.
Non qualifiers seems no problem to me. The small charm is awesome !!!

Edit: I just found a grailer :). Nothing too fancy, but still a grailer, which isn't happening that much anymore. Also, leveling by doing AT runs on /p7 goes faster than I thought. Started at 93, now at 93.25 already.

Tried my Singer on FH poppables. I thought Howl would keep him safe and it does to an extent but TK on my sorc works so much better. You can miss the Tele position and still open from a distance. Just those damn archers can be a pain. Also nearly deeded in MooMoo Farm when teleing into a pack of Champs but fast juvie got me through. Got through another hour. Got a Skullders for my troubles. Lots of roonz but nothing of note.
Nice finds Gripph, I'm having luck with SCs too atm, so far I found:
- 214 poison;
- 100 poison / 7% mf;
- 19 life / 4@.

They're all pretty :) but only the last one survived to charsi.
Yeah, let's show our best non-qualifiers. It will make this more fun. I have never witnessed 313 SC myself, those are rare indeed!

Only couple hours in here. My rarest/most noteworthy item so far is Griswold's shield. Hopefully it won't make the cut to the final top 5 :p
Did an hour in ATs with Blizzy and PNovamancer in Pits. Nothing of note dudes.
75-80 cowruns here. They are obviously no Travincal, clearly, but it is kinda fun to snipe them down with CE.
Still, congrats :). I don't expect to find 5 items that are more rare than Griswold's shield to be honest. In 5 hours of playing so far my rarest are probably Halaberd's Reign and a near perfect Eschuta's Temper. So nothing fancy.
Finished 100 cow runs for the weekend. I'm not sure will I aim for 500 total, it does require more playing than I wanted to invest in. Could probably end up on less, but its so attractive number to hit overall.
I finished 45 cow runs. I don't think I go quite as fast. My average with all the id'ing and getting the leg is just over 4 minutes. It takes me on average 1 minute to get into the cow level.

But I did find some qualifiers, so I cannot complain too much. Thank Pindle for that!
Sup Franklin, wat char u using to do 4 minute Cows? And wat player settings?
Not much running was made within the first weekend, but I found something I'm really happy about:

Code:
Sparking Grand Charm of Sustenance
Grand Charm
Required Level: 53
Fingerprint: 0xf917fc11
Item Level: 86
Version: Expansion 1.10+
Unidentified
+1 to Lightning Skills (Sorceress Only)
+34 to Life

nice, this is the first sparking with good +life for me
I'm curious to know as well. I takes me far more than 4 minutes (no Enigma though). Maybe it just means I should lower the player setting though.
If this would have been the Dolthon, I would have won already. 'Nough said ...
If it makes you feel better, I just had a CS run where I found 4 Dols in a single run so...

Other than that, running has been decent for me. Not as much as I wanted, but I've got some qualifiers so I'm happy. Glad people are having some success and finding some cool non-qualifiers!
Yesterday I spent the whole day baaling and found nothing, then I made a few LK poppable runs and my top 5 filled with mid-high runes. When it comes to rune finding, LK is simply too tough to beat.
I got my Windy to Act II over the weekend with the intention of running AT with him for this tournament. I also plan on running my lightning sorc at the cows, as I still have two pieces of the set to get.
I am using a javazon. I do have infinity, enigma, low roll griffons, 7 java gcs. I probably need to switch my merc from holy freeze.

I think I look quicker than @maareek poison necro but not as fast as @Gripphon summon necro. I would like to see what his average time is, Necro teleporting is way greater than javazon and I am sure I don't tele frantically enough while running. I tele mostly to get the merc to me, and then I have to wait a tick for conviction to show up. I do not fear the Cow King at all, I just roll in and fling titan's his way. So when his time blows mine away, I will say I kill more cows but never show proof or anything :)

Edit: Players 7, 3k LF damage, 7k CS, -15 elr + infinity.
Umm, yeah, LK is not a part of this.
see

In fact this point is still not entirely clear. Where can we run, @Gripphon?
All areas on hell difficulty, excluding Countess, Travincal council members, superchests anywhere and hellforge runes.

For this time. If poppables prove to be too strong, we can ban such areas for the next time.
Whoops, sorry, didn't see that.

It is my fault, I was too lazy to update first post. Anyway, first post updated now with permitted areas as well as updated prize system.
Wait, LK is in this? lolwat?
I think creator of rules in this thread is clearly insane, no other explanation for it!

Anyway, completed 130 cow runs.

Also cows y u no give me useful runes etc (trigger warning!)

1598206033317.png(yes, I don't use skeletons anymore. Lolskeletons)
Awww, that's cute. Just goes to show how much better Ral runes are than Zod runes. You won't even bother to upload your triple Zod rune screenie, but that double Ral rune screen gets its own post. Best rune confirmed.

I may actually start playing here in a few minutes. Please nobody faint.
I have gotten one qualifier in Cows iirc. Or maybe a few low ones too, but one that might make the top 5. Rest is from AT. Then again the latter is what I've mainly been doing anyway. It's probably less efficient, but I like the Sorc more than the Javazon. And it has gotten my Sorc to 94, so that's a plus :). Only half a level more to go and I actually beat my highest lvl ever, in HC this time nonetheless :).
Nice T72, I hope that it doesn't turn out to be your #1 :p
I did my first Pit runs yesterday. Found couple nice charms:

Not sure if it's rare, but I sure think it's useful :).

I also found Vidala's Ambush. Only one more normal set item to go for my grail: Arcanna's Sign.

How is everybody doing in the Zodthon?
Frozzzen accepted to be supervizor, so you send results to his mail

Results should include your top 5 runes as well as screenshots of all Vex+ runes you found. Just upload them somewhere and paste link when sending results.

Also, when you do send results, be nice and say it in here and also please state your forum name when sending results so Froz doesn't have to guess who you are.

Example of results:
Forum name: blabla
1. Zod
2. Zod
3. Zod

Nice charms there, Grape.

I'm 10 runs short of 250 on cows which will happen today sometime. Farming is fine, cows do drop plenty of crafting stuff and charms. Nothing special so far.

Currently at 37 Rals, 27 Sols and 194 jewels. A bit slower farming pace than in Travincal, but that is expected. Also found almost interesting socketables along the way.

I'm still short of Cow King's boots to complete grail in this game. Found 2 of each armor and hat so far.
I have done a little bit more Pit runs since Monday. I'm pretty happy with how my Nec is doing. He's running around with full skiller set, Death's Web and 125 FCR and is quite a killing machine :p

It can already be said that I've found more noteworthy and useful charms in Zodthon than in the previous RFO. Nice.

I've been wondering what the heck I'm gonna put my 'Fury' runeword into, when that day comes, and am I going to use it for anything. This gave me an idea:
Code:
Runic Talons
One Hand Damage: 24 - 44

C/C Phoenix Striker, and 'Fury' in that weapon. Hmm, maybe.
I don't have quite a full skiller set, but 125 FCR is the only way to do it for me, thumbs up! Slow teleporting is the worst.
Yeah I doubt dropping some of the skillers would affect that much my skill speed.

Maybe running some batch of runs with different MF/+skills and calculating adjeff in the style of SPF Hall of Records thread would help to find out the balance.
Meh, after reaching 97 and finding Cham in Travincal my runelust vanished so I'm in a "lol who cares anymore" mood. I'll probably spend the rest of my running time in LK farming jewels, gotta finish that tomby.
Running has been decent for me, have leveled the hammerdin from 92-94 so far in the CS.

My finds can't compare to everyone else's here, my best charms have just been some plain 7%mf charms or the like. Here's a couple goodies from my haul so far though:

My second ever, first one in HC.
wait, did you just find a HC Death's Fathom? forget Windforce, THAT is your best item so far! huge congrats
There was a bit of a question about superchests, and it was requested that my googling skills be put to use to explain things. First, a little terminology: "superchest" while often used is a bad term because there are two different types of objects that count as better or superior or "super" chests: sparkly chests and special chests.

A sparkly chest sparkles, can drop sets and uniques, and has a larger number of drop possibilities than regular or special chests. They are "super" because they are basically upgraded, leveled up versions of regular chests. Special chests, on the other hand, look like regular chests, have a similarly truncated set of drop possibilities, cannot drop sets or uniques and are familiar to all because they are what exist in LK and RoF. They are special because 1.they only exist where the developer's specifically put them into the game and 2. their smaller drop seeds mean they are great farming targets for the objects within those seeds (ie runes in LK.)

Okay so that's pretty clear, right, sparkly chests are sort of upgraded chests that are easy to spot because of their graphic and special chests have a limited drop seed and look normal but can be determined base on their drops. Except when they coded act 5 they made all the special chests be sparkly.

But what's the point of the distinction here? Well, grip has banned "superchests" but I think the intent here was actually the special chests in act 3 and 4 (as I've mentioned there are actually also special chests in act 5, which would also be banned under this rules) but sparkly chests, which are also "superchests" in the terminology that's been used to describe these things, may not be intended to be banned as well. A list of sparkly chests is here, though keep in mind the 6 listed for act 5 (abaddon, pit of acheron, glacial trail, icy cellar, infernal pit and drifter cavern) are actually special chests and therefore work differently, but the most important two for this event are probably the one in AT and the one in the Pits.

Grip asked me to explain the difference both so he could make sure he understood what was going on and also so everyone else could be on board with what is what. Hopefully this makes it as clear as this fairly cloudy subject can be. I'm not sure whether grip intends to make it so both sparkly and special chests are banned for the zodathon or to allow sparkly chests, but hopefully this provides some better understanding for either decision.
Yeah, I have a finding to add about chests and objects. The ones in the cow level drop from a class that DOES NOT ALLOW FREAKING RUNES. There, I said it. I now have to plead with frozzzen to count a few 4os monarchs as hel runes to finish out my top five.

Grats on the Fathom! That is a great find.

Saw someone else had some cool claws. I tried, too

Code:
Greater Claws
One Hand Damage: 18 - 37
Durability: 30 of 52
Required Level: 33
Required Strength: 76
Required Dexterity: 76
Fingerprint: 0x46335c12
Item Level: 81
Version: Expansion 1.10+
+2 to Phoenix Strike (Assassin Only)
+2 to Wake of Inferno (Assassin Only)
+3 to Blade Fury (Assassin Only) 3 Sockets (0 used)

Thanks :). I often have a hard time distinguishing how rare some items actually are. Is this a matter of plugging the numbers in the drop calculator that comes with GoMule, or is there a list of this somewhere?

About the superchests: just to have it clear: the sparkly chest in AT and The Pits is allowed, right, since it's not one like those in LK? I don't think I have found a rune from that chests, but I do always hit them on my runs.
@nulio created a handy excel file. Download the excel file from this post: http://www.diabloii.net/forums/threads/2015-summer-mfo-sign-up-and-running-thread.914015/

Basically, the higher the score, the rarer the item.
Cool, just what I was looking for, thanks a lot :).

Death's Fathom indeed is really rare it seems. The other item I'd really love to have, Death's Web, even more so though ;). I found that one quite early in SP SC from Pindle. I didn't know I got that lucky back then.
Nice drops all!

@T72on1 special grats on DF, and nice roll on top of that!

I reached lvl 93 with my nec now, started Zodthon Pit runs when I was 84..

This has been really great as far as non-qualifiers go. Had my 2nd Ghostflame drop and then this:

Code:
Crown of Ages
Corona
Defense: 367
Durability: 42 of 50
Required Level: 82
Required Strength: 174
Fingerprint: 0x4505f8aa
Item Level: **

Indestructible
+1 to All Skills
+30% Faster Hit Recovery
+50% Enhanced Defense
+118 Defense
All Resistances +27
Damage Reduced by 15%
2 Sockets (0 used)

Dat roll.
Very nice explanation there, thank you.

So everyone, note that by "superchests" I meant "special chests" (those in RoF, LK, act 5 etc...)
Those special chests are banned and in act 5 sparkly chests seem to be special chests, and they are banned for this event as per rules. Just in case you find rune in them, I'll let you know it doesn't count for this event. All other sparkly chests before act 5 are not special chests like in LK and are allowed to hit/farm for this event (AT, Pit...)
Thanks :).

The least you can say !!!
@Grape

Dat item, dat roll.
Maybe not as impressive for pvm (lol pvm coa really), but as pvp player that thing is like mini-god in my eyes. Even better roll than my own. Talking about catching big fish out there. Way to go ^^
@Gripphon agreed. And thanks! Yeah, it's mainly a pvp item when we talk about what's best for what, agreed.

Still I like to build lol pvm builds around items which I think are somehow "cool" and this definitely is! :)
great CoA!
You know that item is really incredibly strong when even Nulio returns from the galaxy far far away back on forum to comment on it!
Houston, we have a problem: screenshots don't work properly in 1.14a (at least for me). more here

3uLkB8n.jpg
Hmm, I can't get it to work with Open Office. Anybody any idea what might cause that? Probably some marco's or so, although that usually isn't a problem ...

Edit: nvm, works now .
Inspired by @nulio , from a galaxy far far away, and @Gripphon one of our rebel heroes in the Zod Wars, I present you a intro to the next episode: link
ahahhah that's amazing grape! next step will be an animated series staged in sanctuary, right?
This is awesome work, I really laughed big time watching it. Well done, sir.

Haha, I'm glad you guys liked it!
Iconic drop ...

The most rare green body armor, combined with the most rare gold body armor ... hell yeah, baby !!!
Amazing post @Grape !!!
Haven't forgot about your question, just wanted more relevant data before I post it. Here is info on how nec can perform on cows on p7. Included is everything related to running except getting tomes. First I buy 10 tomes of tp to put them at stash to just take them out each run instead of running to Akhara every time. This is info with no deaths interfering etc., so full out running of cows pretty much.
rJYz9Df.jpg

I do believe sub 3min running is possible, depending on how map is etc. I don't have enough experience with cow level maps, but mine seems good enough anyway with isolated king in his castle.

So far, 2:36 is my fastest measured cow run. It depends a lot on cow placements, are they nicely together or in a lot of islands... But runtimes usually vary between 2:40 and 3:45 depending mostly on that.

This info is obviously incomplete since I don't know how many cows do I kill, but some testing suggested it is in ~370-380 average, ranges between ~330 and 450, something like that. But that is not precise method, just estimate based on experience and assumptions on number of bosspacks there etc. Now I could kill more cows since I kill additional small area I didn't visit before because it seems out of path, but cows also tend to spawn there in bigger number from time to time. Anyway, fair to say it is rather questionable is javazon really best cowrunner out there or is nec her equal or even better. Who knows.

In total did 310 cowruns so far or ~16.8 hours of playing time invested. I do think I could aim for 600 total, would be cool to hit and also for testing purposes to see how good cows really are. They are not that far behind Travincal in charms and jewels so far. This is half point of Zodthon. It seems I might end up with 30+ hours in the end which I didn't plan at all. But cows are fun, what can I say. Agreed.
Nice stats, killer job, and thanks for following up! I hope it pays off in zods. My timer says 11.6 hours at 142 runs at 4:10 a run, so some stuff is way off there.

I am not close to touching 3 minutes on any run, and I would say my good run times are 3:45 to 4:15, but can easily last longer if I get sidetracked with items or popping objects or killing too small groups of cows. Too bad I don't have a summon necro right now or I would do some, but I can see one in my future. I would respec my psn necro, but he hasn't past act IV yet :)

The natural herding that occurs while getting the first body from the merc looks takes about the same time I spend letting 2-3 groups come together, and I bet you don't leave as many stragglers as I do.

I do find a lot of gcs (my max is 6 in one run) and I have found my favorite cowing charm:
1598206181483.png

Edit: I gained 210k xp in one run and I get ~188 xp per normal monster. So I killed over 1k cows (3 uniques + 5 champions in there). If I find half as many zods as Griph I will be psyched.

Here is a spreadsheet with some numbers. Kinda sucks that each unique and minion are worth 24 times the experience so getting an accurate count would be very hard, especially since you don't see most of what you kill.

1598206192421.png

Don't worry about timer if you talk about rune counter, it is basically never correct on total time in comparison to average time and number of runs. Total time includes time counter is working, not time it is working while you are actually running. Also it never records first run of the session toward runs done nor average time. You must s/e first run then continue running normally to have accurate count there.

Nice effort there to count cows, but your position is not really good for it. Level 93 is too low for the job since obviously that xp penalty difference is too damn big between bosspacks and everything else, so basically you must have really excellent estimate to not go completely wrong, on both number of bosspacks and number of minions. I have level 95 and my job is easier in that part since level penalty is same for me for anything on cow level, and I simply know champions give 3x the xp of normal cows, and bosspack unit gives 5x the xp. Room for error is much less. But yes, 390 is reasonable estimate of cows. I actually estimated 1 champion pack less than you, but it is there somewhere.

As for stragglers, depends. I don't usually leave cows that are next to dead corpses, but I often leave boss alone alive since they take much longer to kill than cows. While 50 or so cows are dead, that thing still has like half hp. As for other cows, I do let like 5-10 cows alive from time to time if they arrive from whenever and I'm already ready to move on. I also totally ignore isolated cow island (15 cows I assume or something like that usually) if I cannot gather them with other packs. Not worth the time. It is not efficient to kill every single cow in there, especially with zon (I have CE, yeeey), simply move to bigger packs, gather them together and blast off etc.
Reached level 94 now. Bargaining with myself that should I continue with nec or with something else. Also it is at stakes that how much more time I want to invest in this. I'm already happy with the side drops, so I could take it easy for the rest of the time...

I'd almost like to socket that Buther's, but as twinking goes, Oath etc are just around the corner when you're level 39 already. Also, that is my second perfect Grandfather
Regarding Zods, to give idea how rare they are. If we kill say 375 cows per run, it will take at average ~3k cow runs to get one. Or, for 4 min run average that means 200 hours. Pretty solid, heh. And cows are, beside poppables (which are questionable) best targets to get Zod (not to cube one).

Even more info, it takes average ~87 cowruns (killing 370 cows per run) to find one 10+ pointer. Not impressive, but not terrible either.

Jewels have 1:506 chance to drop from regular cow and minions (1:336 from bosses alone, but there are like only 6 of them there). I found 252 of them so far (249 from cows alone, 3 from Rakinishu) in 310 runs which would suggest I kill like 406 cows per run. But, 7 of those 249 came from bosses which have slightly better drop chance of jewels, so yeah, in the end jewel average could mean I killl more cows than I thought, closer to 400.

There are 46 Ral runes, lets say I picked 2 from Rakinishu, that is 44. By same logic, that also suggests ~400 cow kills per run. Lets say 395 due to bosses having slightly better chance at dropping runes. By the count of Sols of 39, that would mean ~450 cows are killed per run (obviously not!). But at least there is possibility I do kill like 390-400 cows per run and not 370-380 I estimated before (now hitting that additional area).

It is still too early to do estimations this way, we shall see how will that work in next few hundred runs. But 380-400 cows killed is pretty accurate estimate it seems. So could be 82-85 cow runs per one 10+ pointer at average.
I better see at least one Zod when scores are posted, if not more. Otherwise taking it easy is simply not an option.
I bet Gripphon found one during the first day of running.

Hint: cows are not fun. Period. But it would be nice to get a very decent record for the Zodthon, right?

As for me, yeah, my current rune haul is so impressive that I see no point in 24/7 running. Or not.
Impressive numbers guys. I can only do 3 in half an hour. Not sure how much of that is lack of experience from the driver (I have never really done Cows much before the Zodthon, and even now I've been mainly running my Sorc in AT), and how much is from the fact that I lack Enigma and Griffon's and only have one skiller.

Anyhow, I'm at 20 hours already, about double of what I thought I would have at this point. I'm happy with my rune finds so far, and very happy with my S/U finds, so overall glad I joined the challenge :). Did have a few close calls with my Sorc, so I'm not sure how long she will last.
For some reason I was thinking that only Diablo, Nihlathak, and Baal can drop charms with that much elemental damage. Looks like I am mistaken.
If you are using a javazon and do not have enigma and infinity:
1. Lose the merc (and no valk)
2. Herd the cows into big groups. The bigger the better. It feels a lot like surfing to me :) Skip small groups, or bring multiple small groups into one big group. IAS is very helpful for better herding.
3. Wear mana per kill (silkwaves can give up to 5, that can be enough)
4. Wear Ormus Robes (+15% lightening damage). Wearing enigma without infinity is not worth it in my opinion. And for that matter, using infinity without enigma is also not worth it.
5. There will be stragglers, absorb a couple hits while you pick up stuff and move on. It is not worth charged striking every last cow. A cta is very helpful with mana/life increase.

I used to do cow runs on bnet in baal games solo just fine. I would get a leg in my own game, join a baal game, and finish the cow run at about the same time as normal human players would finish their baal run. The bots are generally too fast. And with slow people I could hit the last wave or two and baal.

If you have a bunch of extra light facets with good -elr, shove them in a monarch. It will help a lot, but i wouldn't waste any 5/5's in one.

Edit: I just did a few runs with merc dead, was able to do aboiut 4:15 on a couple and a bad run was 5 minutes. That had multiple extra fast packs (one with mana burn, one with holy freeze) and I spent about 10 seconds CS'ing a boss down. Don't take that long on one cow, haha. With infinity individual cows just drop over, but packs take the same one-two javelin tosses.
I'm not exactly a javazon expert, but this seems doubtful to me. The massive FRW boost, the +skills, the life per kill, the Damage taken goes to mana, the damage reduction, plus the strength letting you boost life even further makes it seem like a tough sell even if you aren't using the teleport. I mean with the damage output of even a fairly averagely geared javazon, it feels like Enigma would be the best choice even if it only had the FRW, because of how much that helps with herding. Ormus may or not be better than Trang-Oul's armor - thanks in large part to the latter being heavy armor, which offsets quite a bit of the frw boost - but it beating out Enigma doesn't really make sense to me.

Again, maybe I'm wrong and there's some subtlety I'm missing, but I don't really imagine there's an armor I would rather use if I had Enigma available. Even for builds not using the teleport, that armor is just ridiculous.

Game thinks it's MFO... o_O

Well, that was a big surprise! Now that I already had full Grail this isn't such a big deal, but still, wow.

I just had to check, and I'm at -4 four for my second full Grail now :p (Arcanna's staff, Berserker's axe, Vidala's bow and Cow King's boots).
Even on Zodthon Tyrael's is easier to find than Zod. Amazing!

Congratz Grape and welcome to 2+ Tyrael's club. Gogogo 1 more ^^
(though you could have keep it secret and then bam to put it in top 5 finds to shock the universe, agreed)
Thanks! I'll save the third for the next MFO ;)
Sounds like a plan. Just a question. How many Templar's have you found (that were able to be Tyrael's)?
You are just partially mistaken. Highest suffix (or preffix) of poison damage does spawn only from those highest level targets. Those charms provide 451 poison damage or something like that. I've never seen anyone have one of those. Possibly rarest type of charm in diablo universe I think.
I have found only four Templar's, and one of them was from Pindle, so only three. So definitely lucky there.. but then again I have found many other TC87 uniques a lot more than Sacred Armors.
Hey, that is indeed lucky. I think Maareek has 2/4 and I have 3/5 on the count of Tyrael's vs unique sacred armor that could turn to Tyrael's.

Some people. All the luck. Agreed.
Are we sure of this? I usually run the Abaddon chest (p7) and today I had a mixed drop: half objects were blue, the other half yellow/rare (I can provide screenshot if needed). This is not the behaviour superchests in act 3 and 4 have, all the objects (except charms) that drop there are either blue or yellow. I also found a pretty rune there so... what to do now?
lol
I've gotten two of each (bolded) on my last tourney chracter, and he's not even half way through nightmare
Haha, the only thing I knew I had only one before checking was Cow King's boots. Wasn't surprised though that there were few others. I don't pick items which I know doesn't have variable stats, it must have been too steep learning curve with those :p

Perfect ED% (+180-230%). This would be kinda cool Zod God item if eth. Don't know if I ever want play with a synergized Twister proc'ing Druid. Who knows.
I am not sure at all. For what we know, those chests could work differently than other special chests, or be bugged at some way, or be not special at all. Act5 is weird and we have too limited info about that. So I'm unsure about anything. Only relevant info we have is from 2008 from a respectable member saying they are special... there was also word that even though they are special, they could work differently than other special chests we know so far.

I think we lack evidence/tests to confirm anything. For now I think safest course of action is to stick with what was said in post you quoted until new info is dug out / provided.

I just want to pop in to say this tournament is meeeeh.

Zodthon should be in 1.07/8/9. That way if a Zod would drop (lol) I could steal it. :p

Grats on the second Tyrael's! That's something that never dropped for me, just like a Zod.
Thanks nulio!

Curious to know what you'd use 1.07/8/9 Zod for? Zod bugging some armor? (I just assume that Zodding an item pre 1.10 and then taking it away in modern versions would end up indestructible. Not sure though, just what I thought how bnet Zod bug items got made back then..)
Yes, I'd try to ebug a monarch and enigma base. From what I read some time ago you need to socket the Zod pre 1.10 and unsocket it 1.10+. Too bad that leaves defense bugging out, but extra 10 Vit in some PvPers would be cool!
Hey guys Im back after a disastrous malware attack. Took me 4 days to get things going again. But its sorted for now :fingers crossed. Ran for about 2 hours today. Not much to report. Im kinda enjoying running Pindle again and the ATs.
IIRC the A5 special chests have the drop randomisation implemented correctly, unlike the classic chests. They are special chests working as intended.

Switched from Pits to Cows, not sure which sucks most. Only three more nights running for me, I'm out for a couple of days.
Cowssucketc, though some decent finds. Even got few pvp upgrades hype.

Runes drops have been really meh the last couple of runs. This drop cheered me up though:

1598206520043.png

My first in HC, roll was -18/+11. Also found a 5/5 poison facet a bit before that.
When will this tourney end? I totally forgot about it, so tonight I'm gonna start running like crazy...
470 cow runs completed. 130 to go as for plan, but bonus running might be done, depending on inspiration etc. Cows are so fun to kill, agreed. Also found fourth cow king hat, still no boots, and I miss boots to complete grail. Heh.
Nice going there Gripphon !!! I really wish my Blizz sorc hadn't already killed the Cow King, as I'd love to do more cow runs, but can't get the hang of it with my Javazon.

Good luck on the remaining 130 runs. I expect a really good result from you in this Zodthon ...
The herding part probably is the part I'm not good at. If I'm only herding 2 or 3 packs, it often feels like it's not enough. If I run past more to get enough cows, the first pack(s) often don't seem to follow. I have been doing this with a merc (and sometimes placement of a Decoy, this is HC after all), despite your advice, but that's because I do have an Infinity, and frankly I can't see it being more efficient without that lovely green aura.
@T72on1 I'm not entirely sure atm, but if you multi instance you can still run cows with characters that already killed the cow king.
This is unbelievable, but found second one:

I couldn't resist and went to check how rare such charm really is. As per one german calc., charm with such affixes drops once on 1/33396 charms. Impressive odds, right? Pestilent is highest prefix which is able to spawn only from I believe lvl 90+ monsters, so let's say those are pretty much impossible to find (they would give like 450 poison damage on 12 seconds).

To put rarity of this charm in perspective, for charm to roll shimmering sc of vita, odds are 1/3339.6, exactly 10 times more frequent than this dual poison affix charm. If we say that only 5allres 18+ life is what we want as godly SC's, then such case happens once per 16698 charms, or twice as frequent as this poison charm. But, at least 20/5@ is still more rare on itself.

Insane luck there indeed (if you happen to want such charm, if not it is useless pretty much, and I fall into first group luckily).

@T72on1

Thank you. Results won't be disappointing I believe. At least haul pic should be decent after so many cows.
I play only softcore so dying isn't an issue. I have died 2x in the ~160 runs, both on bad teleports. But I also have 2800 life (beta cta and no block stat allocation).

You have to slowly herd cows together, because as you have found out, if you run to fast they just stay there. It initially takes longer to herd, but then 2-3 javelins will take down 80% of the pack. Then move away a bit while looking at items while letting the survivors come towards you again, and then finish them off. A merc makes this very much harder, and using your decoy to help is no problem. Using your decoy to distract boss cows and superfast cows is essential.

You are limited to the cows speed, and that is why I don't prefer enigma at lowish gear levels (not that it still isn't good, but I personally prefer ias / elr / %dam instead). But since you found a pretty sweet Griffons I think your cow killing abilities will be very much improved. Cows have 50% light resistance, so that 18 elr will increase your damage by 36% (on top of the 11% damage mod, which is multiplicative with your damage assuming no other % lit damage mod). So if you had 2500 damage before, and now you have 2750 damage with the lite damage mod, your damage to cows per bolt increases from 1250 to 1870, a good 50% increase!
Such nice charm, so rare, much wow. Just Grip things.

Now we wonder how many Zods you have found Gripphon

Meanwhile in the Pits: found the three missing set items I needed for my "2nd Grail". I'd need Cow King's boots now, but I don't feel like running cows. Maybe after I've hit 95 with nec. If it happens before firday 23.59, at all.

Also found DF, was only 17%CSD though.
Thanks for the tips :).

Congrats on the DF !!!
ty ty. It's my number eight. I can tell you that I was more excited when I found my first (and it took a while, I can tell you) :p

Would have been cool if this was MFO though. Now I couldn't help but think that oh, why wasn't it something about equally rare, but a rune instead!
Nah, I wasted all my luck on those 2 charms. Zod itself is like a miracle drop for its rarity. I'll come close just to 1/4 of expected average number of runs to find Zod, but it is quite possible at least one Zod to be found from all players on the tournament. Only question is will it happen and who will it be. I'd rather find some great item instead to round up first Zodthon.

You wasted your luck on that CoA and Tyrael's... hmmm... I do have a feeling either Maxicek or Thy will find Zod and win whole thing. Would be awesome!
Change of plans. Currently at 550 runs done and am looking at ~730 to complete 40 hours, so gonna go yolo next 3 days (well, not really, 60 per day is decent and not that insane pace!).

Idea is to be able to pretend like I did 2 sets of 20 hours for RFO to compare cows and Travincal better, also to investigate cows better. And to finally get those impossible to get boots.

Yeah, f those set items. I have found 2 armors in about 200 runs.

Grape on 2 Tyreals and 8 Fathoms? I bet he is sitting on a pair of zods...

Picked up about a 2 dozen of these before:

Eons ago, or so the story is told, a very foolish man traded for two Vermilion Jewels of Fervor, put them in a hat he stole from a great wizard and used them on a very foolish character. None remain from that long ago time to speak for the results, though rumors claim an amount of fun was had, but what is known for certain is that when the item was later given away, literally nobody wanted it. (citation needed)

Legends tell that the demigod called "frozprince" found this artifact in a chest within the ruins of Nagging Fury Kumquat's vault. To this day, the dusty tomes tell, that nearly omnipotent being (save for all the areas which encompass the definition of "omnipotent") forces one of his followers to wear this hat as punishment for breaking many bottles of froz's lifeblood, ketchup. All adventurers who gaze upon this abomination shiver, whimper and eventually succumb to madness, though it's unclear whether this is from the horrible sight of the fool's cap or the frozprince's mutterings in the eldritch tongue "anime."

Or so the story goes.

Actual answer: it certainly can be used, but it's quite doubtful it's ever the best jewel you could use in any typical situation. Still sweet in a build with lots of +%damage, though.

Also, my apologies to frozzzen and Nagisafurukawa for using their full, given names in the text above.

To increase my odds of finding good runes in this Zodthon, I decided not to pick up anything except grailers, some other S/Us, rare jewelry and circlet type headgear, grand charms and very good base items. I probably left a lot of good stuff on the ground :(.

Talking about runes ... my first week was really good, at least as far as one can expect from AT. This week ... pfff ...
My runes have been horrible all the time. Good news is that there's still time to improve.

I think I'll be able to hit 95 with my nec tomorrow, nice. Still hoping for some improvements in top 5. Otherwise I'm more than happy with how this turned out :)

Found mildly interesting looking claw:

"BarbAssaDin" anyone? Chaos in the other hand, this in the other. WWing, Zealing, + using regular Assassin's skills. Could be cool.
This. 4 of my top 5 were found in literally the first 3 days of running. Only one change since then.

@Grape - Yes. I feel like the world needs to see this.
Hehe yeah, my best rune was found after ... 1.5 hour in ... but I liked that one :).

Three of the same TC87 in less than 2 weeks time, with the last 2 ones in consecutive runs? Especially since they aren't grailers, I have the feeling the drop gods are laughing with me. I could also complain about the fact that they aren't runes, but what can you expect when you enter a RFO with an mf character and then start doing a typical mf area ...
To cheer you up guys, do you realize that Zod rune is much alike Chuck Norris?

Firstly, it is highest level rune in the game, just like Chuck Norris is highest level human in the universe.

Secondly, it is indestructible, pretty much trademark of Chuck Norris. Not even Mordor volcano can destroy it.

If you socket Chuck Norris with Zod rune, he can wrestle with Superman and Batman at the same time with both hands tied behind his back and chew adamantium nails at the same time - inside the black hole.

If you socket lord Voldemort with Zod rune, he will grow his nose back.

Zod rune is the only rune Chuck Norris ever finds - he simply doesn't care about anything not most godly. When you find Zod rune, you also experience 0.0001% power of Chuck Norris.

Just like Chuck Norris, Zod rune is always waiting. You never know when will it jump on you, but when it does, your life will never be the same after that. So, keep farming and you will get your roundhouse kick of luck eventually.
Supplies supplies, today at 18:10 cet finished grail.

Congrats on yet another perfect charm, PerfectCharmpphon. Good thing nulio is retired so he doesn't have to watch his record as luckiest lucker to ever luck be smashed.
Congratulations on the Grail. What a fun wee item to finish, then for Grail #2 you don't have to bother with that :)

Edit: t72on1 make a barb and dual wield for 100% fire resist! Give the 3rd to barb merc
Thanks guys. For grail #2 I'm missing Stormlash and Caddy. Probably some random easy-to-get-don't-bother-to-pick-up thing too, but those two are big fishes to find.

Grats Grip! Not bad, not bad. How many Sander's Ripraps before the Hooves?

It's been a while since I've run any AT with Blizz, but I guess this could be cool with 3xIst:

Nulio: I'm still missing 12 items myself, but managed to get the cow items back in 2003
Grats on the Grail!
It is the last day of the event. Use it well!

Plan is as follows. At any time you want you can start posting readouts of your top 5 items found (by your own choice) and I'll edit all of those into the second post of this thread for voting. It would be cool, but not necessary to also give short explanation of your choice for readers. You have time till saturday 8pm CET to post your top 5, and then voting will start until sometime in sunday. If someone needs more time to post their top 5, let me know, but you can already think about what you want to post and then post it when you finish as well send results. WARNING: no rune qualifiers allowed in here!

Also when you are done, send results to email presented in first post with all relevant data and screenshots of your top 5 Vex+ runes. Don't forget to state your forum name in mail and also please post in this thread when you send results so that we know who didn't send them yet.

Have fun during last day, gentlemen.
Top 5 Vex plus... Lol. Getting that many would be great.
Grats on the Grail, Grip !! Very well done :).

First 4 items were simple to include in my list, since they are by far the best items I have found, and obvious choices in general I'd say. For the 5th item, the Alma Negra, I just checked the MFO spreadsheet someone linked me the other day to see which one was most rare in the AT, the area I was running. A bit to my surpise the Alma Negra is quite rare, so I picked that. Other options could have been M'avina's body armor, Bul-Kathos' Tribal Guardian (which I found 3 times during the Zodthon), an eth Reaper's Toll, Highlord's Wrath, ... I just had a divine intervention ...

I'll send my rune results right away.

I'm going to whisper this to you, so no one else sees it:

Remove the Alma Negra and put that eth Reaper's in fifth (or more like third) place, you'll get more votes!
Really. Cool, I'll do that. Edit: at least if it's ok to change my list. If not, I'll revert it back to Alma Negra.

I didn't put them in a particular order, just put the best 5 in there. Should we have a nr.1, nr. 2, ... ?

Also, is it ok if we post a list with all the Hel+ runes we found during the Zodthon here either after the Zodthon finishes, or after the winner has been announced? I'd be curious to see what everyone got, and how much time they spent on it. Might be a way to learn more and increase my efficiency.
Sorry about the deeds. Yes, we can and will post stats after the event is finished.

T7, is your javazon's belt Razortail? Please say yes. If not, put it on instantly. The pierce is essential and something I don't think anyone has mentioned yet. We all probably just assumed you were already wearing it.
No, it isn't. I'm using Thundergod's and high level pierce skill. So no 100% pierce, but somewhere in the high 80's iirc.

I didn't know which of the 2 to take, so asked about it on the Amazon Basin forums. Opinions were split between the 2, in the end I took Thundergod's.

Is it such a big difference?
As always, the answer is "try them both out and see which you like better". As it happens, I dusted off my old cowzon for the first time in years, going into this zodathon, and I asked on IRC "should I use Razortail or Thundergod's?" Consensus was definitely Razortail, and it did seem a little bit better to me, so that's what she's wearing now (even though I only played a Necro in the zodathon and didn't touch the Amazon). Maybe one is better than the other, I suggest trying it out and see what you like.
Just small detail: when posting top 5 items, you don't have to put every item in their own code bracket, you can post all 5 items in same code bracket.

Also placement of items does not matter. Important thing is it is there. Best item could be in fifth place as well as first, whatever best item for someone might be...
After results are posted you can post everything about your qualifiers, not before. We like hype moment when results are posted without knowing anything before that moment ^^
I understand, and am very much looking forward to that hype moment :).
Results sent in!

EDIT: I realize there's still time to run, just not for me. I will be away from my screenshots this weekend too, so I figured I'd better get my results in now so I'm not holding anything up. :)
I agree. I actually made my decision running Pindle. I tried a few cow runs with Tgods and switch back to Razortail. Surprisingly, 100% pierce it is even more noticeable running Pindle. With cows, and especially the big groups, it can be hard to tell. But in medium sized groups it is obvious, most of the time *wink. I was at 71 or 73% without Razortail.
... 730 cow runs later I'm done with this. Results are sent.

2 poison charms are by far my favorite finds this Zodthon, no question about that. They are super rare and for very specific usage. I have pvp poison barb who will welcome big upgrade in damage. Other than very specific usage, they are obviously useless. I don't care nevertheless.
GF/mana GC is perfect charm to get for goldfinder sorc. At least one of those is what she wants.
19/11 SC is pvp thing. Few life upgrade is there for me.
3/5 SC is for my pvp bowazon. Not exactly charm regular pvm-er would even look at, but I like the charm despite its very limited usage.
I'm afraid I have to pull out of this. Had almost no time to play due to a growing baby and overtime at work due to a colleague not pulling his weigth. Didn't really find anything anyway, but don't even have time atm to fire up my pc and get readouts. Good luck to you all, and I'll be there next time hopefully!

And yep that Gheeds is hotmuled. The ammy I crafted after reading about the superiority of the 125 FCR Poisonmancer. Three attempts and wham, a 2/10. Lol. I know it's not a find but hey I did use ingredients that I found whilst running. A couple of nice Amazon hats in there but not sure of their use. Not the most godly of stuff but I did have a malware attack part way through the tournament and I was out of commission for about 4/5 days. Wasn't the same when I got back on my feet. Will mail rune stuff onto supervisor. If anything this tournament got me interested in outfitting my MF chars and learning to be more efficient. I am still far from optimal but I'm getting there. Thx Griphh for hosting and Frozzen for supervising.
I played more for this zodathon than any other SPF tournament in the last ~3 years, after the 2013 Winter MFO. It was fun, mostly thanks to the fact that CE Necros are a lot of fun to play. I had very bad rune luck, but found some very nice non-qualifiers, which is tough when you're a grumpy old man like me and are barely impressed by any items these days.

The first two items are super great, the other three aren't too shabby either.

Popped in LK. There's a funny story about it: I was picking up GCs every now and then hoping to find a good shimmering + something else, but in the end I was always overburden so I went: "I seriously need to stop doing this. I don't want skillers, and the chances of finding a nice shimmering are too low to even care picking them up". As I was thinking this, I IDed the charm and giggled a bit :) Shame on life roll though, could've been better.

This is the best find of these two weeks. I was always drooling over fcr/dual leech ring readouts on the SPF, so when Grand Vizier dropped it during a completely unnecessary CS run I did, I was honestly shocked for a while. On top of perfect mana/life leech, this ring features a big mana bonus and a pinch of AR, which were exactly the other two attributes I was looking for. No resistances? Who cares, I'm filled with shimmering charms now! Best tele barb ring ever, period.

@Gripphon thanks for hosting and grats on the grail!
@Fabian nice jool there, excuse me but I hate you now.

EDIT: added readouts. ilvls of SCs indicate that they weren't found where I remembered, so I changed the description a bit.
@zticazzy

Sorry about inconvenience, but I'd have to ask for readouts of items as per rules. Don't you have atma/gomule to use them for that for this occasion?
@Gripphon I don't like the idea of third party programs opening this char files, even for readouts, but I guess I can make a copy of the d2s, use GoMule and then throw the copy away. I hope I won't mess things up in the process.

Edit: added readouts. Took me a while to make that thing work in win 10, and I honestly dunno how I did it, but now it's done.

Again, sorry about inconvenience, but it had to be done and there is no other way than to use outside programs for it. It is not what vanilla players would want, but making copy and opening it in atma/gomule then erasing it is simple way of doing it and thank you for doing it.
Man, first Gripph accomplished 3x the amount of runs I did (I expect to see 3 zods in your top 5) and now Fabian is flashing around ruby freaking jewels of fervor?

I ran about 280 cow runs in about 22 hours. I started the first ~100 not picking up Rals or Ios, so my stats are going to be a little off. I was going for speed until I didn't find a zod right away and saw the stuff Gripph and Grape were posting, so I slowed it down, picked up more items, and made it more enjoyable for me. Runcounter shows my average time now as 4:20, and it might not have been that good even. I need to learn to skip smaller packs better, but if I hear a moo I must make myself a burger. I did not pick up one gem the entire time. I also ran !4 hours of Pindle and an hour of pits, so I enjoyed the ability to switch targets.

I found another 4os 3 skill mat bow, so that was a success. I found 14 total skillers. And a static small charm of shock with 2-9 damage. Dual mods, horribly low.

Thanks for hosting and for the comradery! It was a lot of fun! Results sent.

Results sent in to the froz prince.

As for a top five: I always hate doing these. Partly because I always feel like what I put in is pretty bad, partly because I always feel bad leaving something out and partly because I normally just group finds into "interesting" and "not" and trying to delineate from there; I don't particularly enjoy it. Originally I was just going to do my MFO score for my top 5, but I do like charms and jewels seeing the big stage, so I decided to go that route instead. To that end I present to you, in no real order, some stuff.

I do love me some prefixed mfsc's (picked up a 8 stamina one as well, woot! *rolleyes*), the serpent of sustenance means I now have 2 charms at 29 combined life and mana - aka just bad enough to be irritating but too good to complain about - and the jewel had my interest piqued when I found it until I saw the integer damage bonus. Oh well, it probably still would've been worse than whatever grip's barb uses.

Run total for the Pits was 1048, in 26 hours 13 minutes. Also did 70 cow runs in 3 hours 42 minutes. That was definitely too many cow runs.

Thanks to grip for hosting and froz for supervising and to anyone who watched while I was streaming. Made it a little less of a slog, though as Fabian said CE is pretty fun and made it alot easier to put time in.
Sent results. Thanks Grip for putting this together and froz for supervising. Agreed with Fabian and maareek, CE Nec is fun. :)

Awesome items so far. It will be hard to pick up the best top 5.

I had awesome luck with items. Many great items had to be left out.

Little explanation why I picked these:

-Tyrael's is self-evident, rarest unique in the whole game. Was a real surprise to see a second Tyrael's at all.
- CoA is one of my favorite uniques in the game. It's rare and has great stats. Absolutely awesome roll on that one
- Amber of Vita. Enough said? LR is imo the most important resistance there is, along with fire. This charm will probably appear a lot of in my future char's inventories.
- I love skillers with life. After having all the S/U items in the game, these are where the real improvement to your chars lie.
- Fine of Vita. My melee chars will fight over this charm. It's so great for them all.
Edited top 5 finds into second post of this thread for players who posted them.

Damm Hernang that Kiras is sweet. And that FScoV aint too bad either dawg. Let it rain!!!
Every time I read something from @DaveW, this guy's accent comes to my mind.
Voting can begin whenever you want, guys!

How do we vote:
Top 5 items of each player are in second post of this thread. You vote for whoever you want for whatever reason. It is a good idea to give short explanation of your choice. What we choose are our top 3 players who we think found best items this Zodthon. Voting for yourself is not allowed.

First player gets 3 points from you
Second player gets 2 points
Third player gets 1 point

In the end we will sum all points to determine overall winner.

You may begin ^^
Thanks Gripphon for hosting, and Frozzzen for tabulating the results :)

I did not do very well, best rune was a Fal, 3.4 total points on the Zodthon-scale. I did manage to get my lightning sorc to 93, so it was fun regardless. I'm looking for Griffon's Eye for her, so I was happy to see my first lightning based rainbow facet drop.
