Time for what's probably the last update on TooMuchEnergy in a week or three.
After last time I only needed 76 more LK runs to drop an Um rune. I cubed up 2x Pul to Um, 2x Um to Mal and 2x Mal to Ist. That way I could make CtA:
Medium roll, but it will do for now.
Even though I knew that it would be most efficient to stick to LK and farm for better gear and in the long run Infinity, I couldn't resist not doing that . So I rerolled my Spirit Monarch in hopes for a 35% fcr one, which would allow me to reach the 105% fcr breakpoint with only 3 pieces of gear: HotO, SotVM and Spirit. I only had ingredients to do this 4 time, but TooMuchEnergy's luck once again continued, and I got this one at the fourth try:
Nice !! This meant I could switch out the Magefists for dual res mf gloves. For the rest of my gear the focus was in this order: mf > mana > resists > life. I also made a Treachery Light Plate for my merc and gave him a 2os Coronet, filled with 2x Sol, because it was the only helm with life leech I had available.
With this setup I did /p3 Eldritch until I reached level 81. After that I tried Pits, which also went really well. The merc as already a lot more sturdy due to the BO. Initially he died a few times, but after a while I got better and better at the runs, and hence could keep him alive better as well. I didn't have any deaths any more. At 1500 life, and with a 1300 mana ES buffer, with decent ES level and near maxed TK, I always had enough time to react .
The Pits map I have is tremendous. Not completely lineair, but very compact and dense. I obviously skip the LI archers, but can usually manage other boss packs even with archers around, so that's nice. I leveled to 82, then tried some AS but couldn't really get into it, so went back to Pits, with some Countess runs mixed in between, and leveled further to 83.
Then today it suddenly struck to me. Or should I say finally? Don't laugh, yes I'm slow at times . I finally realized that I also have the Lightning skill maxed, as CB synergy. But obviously the synergy also works the other way around, and LM is maxed too. So I went to check my Lightning damage ... looked promising !!! This could come in especially handy in places like AS, where I mainly would want to snipe those Ghosts.
So I tried out AS, Eldritch, Pits, Countess ... Lightning did more damage in most cases, even if I didn't reach the 117% fcr breakpoint with that setup. I just can't understand why I didn't think about this earlier. Then again, it actually gives me mixed feelings: should I just give up the idea of CB already, and just go for a straight Lightning build? Or should I stick to the CB/ES build? Lightning is stronger, but feels so slow to me, even at the 117% fcr breakpoint, which I tried out afterwards by switching Magefists back in. Also, I have come to like ES a lot, and was already theorycrafting about setups which would get my damage as high as possible, while still focusing on high mana / ES / general survivability too.
So yeah, I'm not sure. For now I kept to my current build, but alternated between Lightning and CB, depending on the situation. We'll have to see how we go about it in the future.
I leveled up to 84 and then 85 by doing a mix of AS, Pits, Countess and Eldritch on /p5 and sometimes even /p7. After that I leveled to 86 by doing /p7 Eldritch runs, mainly using Lightning as skill. I briefly tried Pindle, but he and his gang hit too hard, so my merc couldn't take it too well.
After that I decided to go back to LK, to try and improve my gear some more. In the 40 minutes I did this, I got a Pul from the corpse near the campfire. In total I'm some 350 runs in.
O yes, fun fact ... well, shocking fact actually: I have the entire Isenhart's set ... except for the Breast Plate .
On my side, i leveled IpBanPrevales up to 93 doing Pit runs, not much luck this night so to say - or at least, no new grailers. Going to find some other place to level faster, I felt it slow but was hoping for some drop...bad result indeed, even if getting a level always matters.
@T72on1 You're saying you just realized Lightning deals more damage than CB? Though I guess with the synergies it doesn't make much sense with an ES build, at least I've never tried. Anyway, grats on the progress!
Time for a little update for Prairie.
I made no update when she was running RFL tourney. I found a nice rune on Baal's minion :
I made a lot of CS run, it's fast (except De Seis who is cold immune all the time), and Diablo gave me a lot of crap, but also THIS, at least !
It will be difficult to improve my items now. A Death Fathom would be welcome (or a Griffon for a light respec ?).
A nice amu or ring craft could be nice, but better not dream about this.
I Also have a Baal GC, I'll try to cube with my hundreds of perfect gems.
I used no socket item quest for the moment, even with the Shako, saving it for real end game items.
Anyway, I spend my time between CS, AT, and cow level (to get an ethereal support for a future infinity. I still need another Ber.)
No real nice drop, even if I run at /p8, with chanceguards and Skulder's ire, which give me around 380% mf. I got 2 radament's sphere in 5 minutes...
I'm so far from the complete grail (105 uniques and 21 set item), and xp bar grows really slowly.
Also, I stopped counting S/U drops and hours spent. I got sick of counting each tancred crowbill I dropped, there's no point doing this ^^

Beside some Travincal runs for JMoD's lightning facets hunt, BabyNinetyNiner got a small progression.
He completed his lvl 22 doing Andy runs, hoping some upgrade. This one went under the form of a Bloodfist pair of gloves 18def, always nice, Gorefoot boots, and a 17MF Nagelring.
Some weapon upgrade also before Steel craft:
Afterwards the cube was required and he did almost a full level getting it, dropping two Tir on the run.
In the end, decided to craft a Falchion Steel - I didn't do fine maths, so for me at 35ias total the 30% more Zeal attacks shouldn't compensate the about 50% more raw damage.
Having dropped no El at that time, went back to Countess for few runs. It was a Ral Tal Eth El sequence, so nice ones stashed for future runewords!
Finally completed the level by testing the weapon in the Stony tomb - nothing interesting has been found there.
Still no death to report Act 2 beetles incoming...
Alright, my untwinked 99er is back to being my highest lvl char, so all is right again Got lvl 94! Did 930 ancient tunnels runs with Arkana during this phase. First 400 or so were on p3 then I upped it to p5 for most of the rest. Found several grailers but only 1 TC87 (grandfather). Runes were better than expected with vex, ohm (from chest), and ber. Never found an eth elite polearm for merc or an ebug helm for delirium (though this doesn't matter much at all). Fortunately 2 monarchs for spirits dropped early on, but i dont have a 3rd one for a body recovery kit. Also somehow dont have another 5os crystal sword. When I find a mal, I may have to roll her second cta in a double axe -.-
Gonna take a break from her a while and work on other characters, but when I come back to Arkana, it will be to Diablo's lair!
@Babyhell haha i wont complain. That definitely would not have beaten my round 3 score It was very nice seeing a ber on the ground for the first time. Now just cham and zod remaining

I never had a lvl 95 char before.
I start to realize how long the quest for lvl 99 will be.
Klaus entered what has to be the single most boring 20M stretch of his career. Nothing happened. No noteworthy S/U, no decent runes, no good charms or jewels, not even an NDE for something to talk about. I resorted to picking up gold piles by the end of it to keep myself entertained. The only thing keeping me going at a decent pace was that 98 was finally in sight. Oh, speaking of which:
That feels good. I'll take this chance to remind anyone that's thinking of getting to 99 with a fire druid (which, realistically, is nobody) that it is NOT fast. At all. Klaus has already spent just as much, if not more time at Nihlathak than Eleanor did (not more runs of course, but more literal time), and he's still got (by FAR) the biggest stretch to go.
Grail sits at 426 for Klaus, only 11 off from what Eleanor found (with significantly less emphasis on MF gear and running) so that's pretty cool.

That's way down the road, and chances of burning out/losing interest before then can't be minimized, but the Druid is the class that seems hardest to push through. Crazy that a Druid was the first SPF 99er in v1.10+
Windys should be the faster 99ers, yeah. They can do Ventar runs pretty well, but suffer a bit one Lister and Baal come into the equation. The main trouble with Fire druids is that fire is already a terrible element for getting to 99 (fire sorcs at Nihl notwithstanding), and fire druids specifically don't have very strong or efficient attacks.
All that said, I still think fire druids are wicked cool and I'm still having fun with Klaus, so I wouldn't have it any other way. Oh, and they're good at cows for the RFL so there's that!

After last update and my little hiatus because of my ultratrail, I continued my LK runs. On run 363 I found a Gul, my third one in total.
However, I couldn't really get into LK again, so I went back to /p7 Pit and Countess runs. Due to two nice fcr rings I could replace my Magefists with the gloves from the Arctic set, which combined with the belt give 40% mf. This way I could still maintain the 125% fcr breakpoint and reach 175% mf.
I got off to a very good start in the Pits, with my first HR outside of LK ...
... and then, far more important, my second unique amulet, and also just my second piece of unique jewelry overall:

Up to that point I had been using Tancred's amulet and helm because of the very juicy 78% mf bonus. The set offered nothing else though, so as soon as the Mara's dropped, I switched that one in, and replaced the Tancred's helm with a 3os helm with 3 perfect Topazes. Almost the same mf, but 2 +skills and some very needed resistances.
At that point I realized that lately I had mainly been using Lightning instead of CB, as it's just much stronger in the end. I doubted for a while, but in the end gave in and respecced to full Lightning, for now giving up on the CB/ES build. Too bad really, as I don't really like Lightning's slow cast speed. But CB just kills much slower. Also, the more I was using Lightning, the more the fact that CB doesn't pierce felt uncomfortable to me. And I guess I'm not really patient when it comes to D2. So I just gave in and took the most efficient option.
Ever since I have been playing on /p8 with ease. That's to say, I had to adapt a bit to the fact that the safety buffer of ES was gone, and as such suffered my first death since a very long time a bit after TooMuchEnergy reached level 88. But other than that things have been going very smooth, and killing obviously goes a lot faster and easier.
TooMuchEnergy has just reached level 89 by doing a mix of Pits, AS, Eldritch and Countess, although the focus has mainly been on Pits.
Drops haven't been really good up till now, but that's not to be expected with only 175% mf and not so many runs under my belt. This was probably the most rare one, which dropped early on, when I was still using the CB/ES build:
Other than that one decent rune from Countess, a Pul, a Tal's helm for my merc and this drop in the Pits, which I found quite funny:
TooMuchEnergy has only found 8 unique body armors, of which 2 are duplicates. To find 2 SotVM out of those 8 ... Unfortunately, again it had a terrible roll (22/12 instead of 21/10), so it only meant a very small upgrade.
Next on the most efficient thing to do would still be to get to LK again. I still need 2x Ber for Infinity, 1x Lo or Ohm for Fortitude for the merc, better charms, skillers, ... Then Meph would make sense in search for Arachnid's. Problem is that I had to return to NM for my respec. So LK means rerolling maps again. And I hate rerolling. And I also don't particularly like LK. So I might stay in Pits for a while longer and hope for a lucky Ber drop. Or two .
So be it. Good luck on that, but on my side I got better luck on areas with optimised characters than with LK ...never ran LK with an optimised sorc tho, it may fill the gap
Finally made my CoH, and now I'm onto Pindle, Pindle, Pindle, until I find a Reapers, Gore Riders, and Highlords. Metalgrid would be nice too, for the inevitable swap to a Fury werewolf to run Travincal for more high runes.
Some update from me. Necromancer continued in the pits, I think mostly on players 3. The plan was to stop pit runs at 93 but I respecced to poison (without any poison gear) to try players 8. I was surprised how strong this guy is with still missing some items and 94 was so fast that I thought why not go for another level.
Halfway through level he got the big item drop;
Shuffled some iterms around and now running with 125% FCR which feels amazing. Still have some gear upgrades to find, most obvious is still using +1 necro amulet!
Hit level 95 now and not too sure where to go. There's not much experience left for me in the pits. Am I running Baals from here on?
@1have2much3time Great progress. For what it's worth, I found Pit runs the best XP option up to 97 with poison nova build and wanting to save Ancients. I couldn't get CS runs to work, and I don't think Baal runs will work very well due to relatively high poison resists for several waves.

As for me, Pestilence hit a significant milestone:
The last .017 of the level was fairly uneventful, a couple NDE’s and disappointing drops compared to my prior Nihl experiences, with some gear tinkering to keep myself engaged. The merc still has an unfortunate habit of running into viper clouds right next to the golem So there are more merc resurrections with the necro than probably with Mercy and Hiatus combined :\
As noted in RFL Round 3 running thread, he picked up Lo #1 within 20 minutes of completing his 20-hour set and was followed quickly by his first BKWB, which were both nice. He gave the BKWB a shot for extra skill and life compared to Dwarf and stuck with it for a while, but eventually went back to Dwarf as Nihl’s CE was only real threat, especially when cursed. Ist #1 fell shortly after, and then a really long dry stretch, at least 20M, until the next drop meriting a screenshot, a low roll 3os Tomb Reaver.
At the 98.4 mark, we had one NDE (S&E with only a couple hundred hit points), and a stretch of multiple cursed rolls that made things tough and included a couple aborted runs to prevent an NDE. We had gone back to Dwarf star, and I decided to test out another approach to amp’ed CE management: considering maxed fire resist, I though the 15% fire absorb might be less beneficial than extra damage reduction (only at 10% with Shako), so tested out Verdungo’s, with dual FCR rings and 2/10 amulet making up what was needed to stay at 125 FCR.
It was actually pretty solid, with life still >3100 after dropping another skiller in favor of vita SCs. The other benefit was the second FCR ring has 11@ and extra poison resist, which made hits by spiders a little less annoying. I eventually tried out 2/20 amulet and Dwarf, with 11@ FCR ring, pulling in a couple ruby SCs to keep fire resist maxed.
I eventually went back to Mara’s/Dwarf/Arach at 98.45, keeping the extra SCs (only 3 skillers and Gheed’s), and his life is almost 3400. I think the setups are pretty comparable, but I prefer the higher resists with Mara's and higher life given how often he's getting hit. Even with the better map, it's still messy every third run on average. In retrospect, the one thing I didn’t test with Verdungo’s setup was dropping 4 vita SCs in favor of 4 FHR SCs, for 86 FHR breakpoint. That might be worth it due to frequency he is hit (way more than Mercy and Hiatus), and I think he’d still have life >3000.
Anyhow, drops meriting screenshots over the last ~20M were Ohm #3, Ghost Flame, and Gul #2. Other notable drops from this stretch were 2os Giant Skull x2 and 2os HHG, with 18 unique rings and 8 unique amulets, plus 6 facets.
In terms of charms, he found another Fungal Skiller, this one with gold find, and now has 8 total He also picked up a couple high resist GCs and SCs with secondary mods, and an Acrobatic skiller of Vita (41). So the two “of Vita” 41+ skillers I’ve managed are for a suboptimal skill tree
But he’s fast compared to prior two with the S&E improvement, as he’s been average ~3M/hr when focused, and not much lower than 2.8M/hr when running more leisurely. So at this pace, he has about 35 hours + Ancients to 99.
This week i'm going to play my runners again, there will be an update for BabyNinetyNiner for sure, and will make some progress with IpBanPrevales, even if 95 won't be reached, i'll target a 3/4th of the level done (currently plain 94).

Stevesy the frustrated Frenzier is back at it, as I got some unexpected uninterrupted D2 time over the last week or so.
As alluded to before, Stevesy decided to try his hand at the Pits to gain some levels and gear so he could take on the Trav and make the next step to some good RWs. Well at first it was really frustrating as his merc would just die constantly, but we quickly happened across this Fal, prompting Stevesy to roll all the polearms he had. On the final one, he rolled 5 sockets on a CA and promptly made this:
That's better! The merc actually (mostly) stays alive now, so that's great. While he was at it Stevesy also made dual Spirits for his BO switch. If you thought that would be enough to keep him comfortably safe (I did), you'd be wrong. A pile of NDEs followed, and the merc just couldn't cut it with the tougher bosses, so Stevesy decided to move on from the Pits and try to find a target that had a more favourable clvl/mlvl difference, as that is paramount for safety in melee HC.
He quickly polished off the rest of Act 3, and moved through the underworld taking out Izual, then Hephasto (grabbing an Um from the Forge on the way). A slow crawl through the CS (even at /p1) ensued, but eventually Stevesy reigned victorious over Diablo and pushed on to his barbarian homelands.
My first thought was to push all the way through to Pindle and hopefully run him for some XP. Well, that didn't work. He's way too hard-hitting to run safely. Luckily, before we left him he decided to reward Stevesy for his (minimal) efforts:

Huh. The IAS actually doesn't matter for Frenzy, but the rest sure is nice!
Next up Stevesy tried some Eldritch runs. Long story short it's way too slow on anything other than /p1, and on /p1 the XP is reallly slow. Stevesy tried some Meph runs to see if he could get some gear upgrades, but the merc can't handle it at all. He THEN tried re-gearing with Infernostrides and some jewelry swapping to get proper resists and gave the Council another crack, to no avail. A few more NDEs and he decided to abandon that plan before it was too late. Back to Eldritch for a slow saunter to 85.
I'm a little bit frustrated with the situation, to be honest. I guess I was maybe expecting too much from a melee character who didn't gear up at LK first, but it's a little disheartening to only be able to run Eldritch or the Countess without the immediate threat of dying (I'm actually considering going back to the Countess, btw). I think maybe I'll give Stevesy a bit of a break for a bit so that the shine doesn't wear off too much, and see from there.
@Pb_pal Nice update, but sorry to hear it's getting frustrating. What weapons are you using? Lawbringer helps so much, but I didn't know if that already in-hand. And i wouldn't think p1 council would be too bad with it, but I am also not a HC player at all
Played IpBanPrevales for about two hours, doing Baal runs at start then forgetting about Baal and only doing waves at /p7 - as this was really more efficient xpwise.
No real drop given by those waves, nice progress on flawlesses - slightly less than a pgem per run, but Baal start dropped a nice circlet - lots of lacking mods for it to be huge, but the strength bonus is really nice tho...
At current rate, lvl 95 is doable in about 10/11 hours (8/9 hours left), i'll keep with it for now then i'll see
@Pb_pal Nice update, but sorry to hear it's getting frustrating. What weapons are you using? Lawbringer helps so much, but I didn't know if that already in-hand. And i wouldn't think p1 council would be too bad with it, but I am also not a HC player at all
Dual oaths right now (in poor bases, mind you.). The worst part is not necessarily the killing speed, I can deal with that. He's extremely squishy, which is bad for HC obviously. Combine the squishyness with the lack of killing power and it's a bit of a tough road.
It's all part of the fun though, and I'm sure brighter days are ahead. I'll get him through, I'm just not entirely sure how yet.
@Pb_pal I would think lawbringer + oath would greatly improve safety without decreasing killing speed much, if at all. But tell me if I'm wrong, I know you have a lot more d2 experience than me in general. I would also want to try 6 or so points in howl for a decent radius and make liberal use of battle cry, but those are just some ideas! Not sure if you'd already messed with most of that stuff. Keep up the good work . Oh and a point in leap for any situation it would just be best to leap in place for knockback and let merc work on a dangerous enemy is also nice.

@PhineasB I’m not ashamed to admit that I like seeing deaths at Nihlathak. It makes me feel ok about getting killed in under a second there and what not lmao. Great progress from everyone though!

On acts 3 and 4, most of BabyNinetyNiner's progress has been based upon boss running - Mephisto opened it due to a very good map, then Diablo and CS gave good stuff.

Short session done at /p7: Anya rescued and Cristalline passage waypoint hit, no noticeable drop, lvl 39.
As far as the Durance 2 map is concerned: I get such maps pretty often in Normal, where Durance maps are much smaller. In NM and especially Hell it only happens very rarely while questing. Keeping my fingers crossed you'll get lucky though .
I have officially swapped over to a Fury Druid from FC/Maul. Pros: Better damage/lifesteal/run speed. Cons: Less life, no shockwave, PI's take longer to kill (except when Atma's procs quickly). It's been a huge improvement; I'm now able to stack enough MF on the guy while still being strong enough to kill Pindle at a reasonable pace. From level 85-** I was hitting Pits>Eldritch>Pindle with only ~80MF. But I think if I really want to take this guy into the mid 90s at least I'll have to run Pindle for certain items like Kira's, and Reapers. Gore would be a nice drop, too. So for at least a few thousand runs I'll be running Pindle w/ 290MF!
98-99 is going to be a long level for Klaus. he just isn't a fast runner, there's no other way to put it. Having your main attacks on rather large timers, as well as unfavourable fcr breakpoints for teleporting, fire druids just don't lend themselves to fast-paced, white-knuckle running. That could be a good thing though, as I stay way more relaxed and therefore (hopefully) don't find myself in too many dangerous situations. Either way, I'm going to probably do an update every 10% of the level. This is partially for my sanity, to feel like I'm actually progressing, and also to keep you lovely folks updated a bit more frequently. Let's get to it, shall we?

Wow! Awesome rune luck on him so far, it definitely helps to keep the motivation up moving forward. The finds tapered off there however (aside from some middling S/U finds that aren't worth mentioning), and it was an uneventful cruise the rest of the way to 98.1. it's nice to see some white on the XP bar.

Short update for TooMuchEnergy. Well, short ... she leveled from 89 to 92 in 8.5 hours time, so she spent more time for this part than in between previous updates probably. It's just that there isn't much to say. She pretty much spent all her time on /p8 Pits, with some minor AS and Eldritch runs in between. And that's basically all there is to it, as drops were really poor: Mal from the chest on Pits 2, Pul from AS, and an Arkaine's Valor in the final stretch towards 92. She only has 180% mf, so this was to be expected, but still, one can only hope for more, no? .
I'll probably stay in the Pits for at least the next level as well, although it would be far more efficient to get back to LK to farm Infinity. Not only because (as you all know by now) I don't really like LK runs. But also because I think my Pit map is awesome, maybe even the best I ever had. I should actually keep track of some numbers, because right now it's only my gut feeling, and maybe this map is just a good map while the others I had were actually just meh. But as I'm someone who's mainly going by gut feeling and who doesn't do a lot of number crunching, I probably will end up not counting anything .
Whenever the runs start to feel like a grind, I switch over to my twinked 99er Hammerdin or one of the two characters I'm building and I'm fine, so in that respect there isn't an immediate reason to switch away from Pits .

I haven't been watching his XP/hour too closely, no. Quite frankly it's a little disheartening compared to the other characters and Eleanor's previous times. Either way he hovers in around ~2M/hour, so while it's not exactly fast, it's definitely bearable.

After many runs /p1, countess delivered the first Sol rune. Due to resistances, I will keep the Spirit shroud/rare shield with 74 all res combo for now, so I hope to get a Shael while questing. Sol can be for either a new weapon or a Lore runeword, but as I have the paladin circlet I guess I keep it for a Honor base or Fortitude (lol).

@Phototoxin You can mule in SP by using an external muling program like Atma or GoMule. Atma is best for older patches, for the more recent ones GoMule absolutely rocks.
I rolled this LK map on my ut99er sorc for no reason other than boredom yesterday. She doesn't even need runes lol, but now I feel obligated to do several hundred runs. The mephy map is only 11 teleports to lvl 3 as well.
I rolled the map above on "accident" even though I dont need many runes and should be transitioning to chaos sanctuary. But it was such a nice map that I wanted to do some runs. I decided to do 850 runs on it before rerolling it for a better chaos map, to bring my total LK runs since reset up to 3k. I also decided to do them on p5 instead of p7 for an increased chance of a direct ber or Lo. But since there are other reasons p7 is better, it was mostly just for fun. Well I found 4 lems and nothing higher -.- Next time I find myself back at LK, the psetting will be at 7
I put on 200fcr for the first time ever and stopped picking up every single flawless gem, and my runtimes got down to sub 24s. Nothing record-breaking, but a huge improvement for me. Also no deaths despite not using BO, and only 1 close call, where I s.e'd with 200 health in the middle of a pack of might apes. Haha I had almost no exp into lvl 94 though, so the risk wasn't too high.
I also could use better charms for Arkana, in particular, she has no skillers. Despite p5 being worse for charms, this was actually a big success. Found several nice sc's. My first plain 3/20, a 5fhr 8 light res charm, a 7 mf 7 mana charm, and a few decent lifers and plain 7mf charms. But the gc's were such a big success that I can't even complain about lack of runes.
Most exciting in the short term is I did find a cold skiller!
1 skiller doesn't make an enormous difference, but she needs all the dmg she can get, and the chances of finding one during this stint were low, so I was very happy about it. But then in 3 days, I found all 3 of these bad boys, with the last one being the most exciting
Chaos Sanctuary Gear
After completing this little project, I finally geared for and started doing chaos runs (thanks @Bewitch for all the gear discussion). Wearing shako, 30@ maras, 40@ hoto, spirit, 30@ vmagi (13mdr), bloodfist, string of ears (13DR, 10MDR), dwarf star (15mdr), soj, and aldurs boots. I used my second socket quest on vmagi and so have a ptopaz in it and in the shako now. Saving the last socket quest till the first of griffons, fathom, or 98. Bewitch helped me realize you use vmagi at lvl 98 whether fire or lightning spec, so I might as well use the socket quest on it now.
I thought my gear before these changes was sound enough with max res and 105 fcr (but was using ptopaz armor ), and all these changes felt like small improvements. But holy crap, all together they made an enormous difference. The practice runs went from frantic tele'ing and frequent rejuvs to being fairly chill. I now have >2600 health, 38mdr, 86fhr, and ofc 105fcr and max res. I think it's the huge mdr which makes the biggest difference, but >2600 health helps a ton too I'm sure. I only have 170mf with this setup though, and was hoping for 200+. I thought about subbing the bloodfist for chance guards, which would be fine, but I just kinda like how well all the gear works together, so I'm keeping bloodfist and 170mf for now.
Merc
I wouldn't mind a bit of discussion on this. I've been testing different mercs. I don't have coh (believe it or not I have 2 bers, but 0 ists and 0 mals), and I also don't have an eth base for insight. So I knew I'd be going without insight. First I wanted to try out a5 lawbringer merc. I think this guy is awesome. The safety is so good with all the knights and stormcasters being knocked back. I tried him with and without delirium and it felt almost the same without it. However I also wanted to try out holy freeze a2 merc with reapers and delirium. Honestly I think he feels less safe than lawbringer merc, but still safe enough. And his advantage is he doesn't push stormcasters out above the lava. So I think I'll stick with him for now. I hope I find an eth polearm and an ist, as I would like to try out the insight merc. I have to drink 2 mana pots or so each run even with 970 mana.

Now this is where I would really like some input. I've tried reading some threads and asking some people, and I have a better handle on it now, but still don't really know what I'm looking for. It seems to me that first priority is forked vizier wing. All the other layouts I've tried have him spawn at the edge with few minions frequently. Then it seems like you want boss packs in the wings, a density that isn't too dangerous for you, and a t-layout for infector is a bonus. Is all this correct and did I miss anything important? I don't care about shrines since I'm not killing Diablo and they just get cursed away immediately. Thanks in advance! Fun to finally be moving to chaos. Its one of my favorite areas in the game.
@Luhkoh - Glad to hear the gear changes have helped things and running is smooth. That makes a big difference for being able to put in the time on this journey. Nice skillers too!

Ah the discussions we've had about those silly Town Guards. A2 is definitely (imo) the way to go, though it's interesting to hear about your success with a Lawbringer barb! I think in here we've basically tried every iteration of gear/aura that makes sense, and honestly I don't think there was really a consensus on "best". Here's my thoughts:
1. Insight makes for super comfy running, make one in a non-eth polearm if that's all you have. For what it's worth, I found with Eleanor that it was only really a minor increase in efficiency to switch to Infinity (most notable at higher levels), so you can have meditation and not worry about slowing things down compared to other options. I bring this up because:
2. Get a CoH ASAP for the merc. It will help a ton with survival. After that work on gearing up to Infinity, but as I said don't worry if it takes a while as the difference in efficiency over Insight is small. If the merc is dying at specific spots you can tailor from there (steel Shade vs delerium, etc)
3. Auras. As far as I know, we're all kind of split on this one. Eleanor used Might. A couple people used Defiance. Holy Freeze was in there too. Nobody ever conclusively proved which is best so you'll have to just take your specific char's needs in. Want the merc to kill CIs faster - Might. Your char/merc is getting hit too much - Defiance (a bigger issue if you're killing De Seis too). You want some extra crowd control - HF (though this might not be relevant on a Blizzy, especially if you're running Delerium - I was). My personal vote is either Might or Defiance, depending on playstyle and character/merc needs.

You've got it. Forked Vizier + non-looped Infector wing are the main points. You can try re-rolling for density from there if you're unhappy with it or really like min-maxing your maps. I didn't worry too much about boss pack density, I just got a map that was smooth to run and went with it.

Re: Infinity - it is technically faster, or at least was with my testing, but that's not the whole story. If you're in a position to make it you'll have to see if it's faster for you or if it's worth sacrificing the comfort of Meditation. It very well might not be worth that sacrifice in the CS, as potting - and therefore picking up pots - can be tedious and time consuming, respectively. When I did my testing I came to that very conclusion. Some numbers on XP in that post as well, for your reference.
Long story short; go for Insight, don't specifically grind for Infinity, if you come up with the ingredients go ahead and make it and test for yourself if it speeds up the CS, you'll want it for 98-99 anyways, whether that's Baal, Diablo or Nihl.
For the boss packs, somebody else will have to confirm the actual numbers for you. The main point I will leave you with is that it entirely depends on what makes the runs most comfortable for you. I prefer to just go for the targets (Vizier+Infector) and hit any bosspacks that are collateral damage in the wings. I don't hit bosspacks in transit, though I know others do. While hitting some in transit may actually be faster, I don't enjoy running that way as much, and it affects my runtimes negatively since I'm not having as much fun. If it becomes 'work' it's not worth it for me, even if it means spending a few extra hours in the end.
@Pb_pal Excellent. Thank you for the advice and the link. This forum is the best Plenty to consider and pay attention to while getting more familiar with the runs. I prioritize comfort a lot too, and will try out some different maps, paying attention to both the feel and the exp. And I'll get on finding an ist to try insight.
I am new to the forum. Started playing my untwinked barb on 10.05.2019. He is lvl 95 now. I am kinda late to the party, cause i already have all the gear i need for baalruns, but @Bewitch was persuading me for a long time, so i had to do it XD
Started with double swing then became a frenzy barb and farmed some NM Andy/Meph for basic gear. Got Gface, LoH, decent weapons quickly. Also found a few ribcrackers (295ed and 297ed), so decided to respec to WW and farm Hell Andy/Meph with that setup. Made harmony bow, got some FRW gear and started running LK. I was mixing it with farming act bosses and pits, cause i still needed second 5os PB for Grief (found first one in act 3), Gore Riders, Kira's etc. Never found Ohm or Lo rune in LK with this dude, but farmed enigma within 3.7k runs (2 Sur runes and 2 Ber runes, made it in Mage Plate), got random Lo rune drop in catacombs (made first Grief) and farmed a lot of mid-runes, so i was able to cube up to second Lo and make second Grief. I got some decent charms, found reaper's and other necessary items fast. Made 2 HotO's, cause i didn't have fcr/mana leech ring, so dual wizzy setup wasn't an option. I am currently doing baalruns till 98 and then will switch to Nihkathak to 99.
I think it is more or less my barb's history. Would like to thank @drmalawi , @Luhkoh and @Bewitch for help. I am open to any suggestions and can anwer some questions if you have any.
P.S. My 0 mf barb found templar's in pits in like 30-50 runs on p7. I am talking about it, cause i played a lot with a common non-FAM mod before and did some holy grailing where i found 9 templar's and 0 tyrael's. This item haunts me and i have to complain about it in order to reduce the pain XD

Lucid is still at 97.5 as I haven’t played D2 since RFL. Admittedly I got my hands on a Switch recently and started to get deeper into fighting games when I felt like gaming. I must say I enjoy learning the ins and outs of MK11 atm but I’m sure I’ll get back to D2 once MFO comes around.
Death has continued his steady progress, now at half way to 95, with 45 or so Baal runs behind him for the level and some Pit and CS mixed in. He’s still a little squishy (and the merc in particular) for certain Lister rolls, and we’ve tried quite a few gear tweaks along the way before setting on the current set up. But the mid-level update is due to a long-awaited drop
An early Gul in the Pit allowed him to cube up to an Vex, so either a Vex, Ohm (with another stashed) or Lo away from Fortitude for the merc. Speaking of which, this eth Archon Plate found off a boss pack got 4os in the cube, so it’s made minus the final Lo rune.
Further in, we got another Lem to up the SoE, followed by a lengthy dry spell before Andy’s dropped from a random monster in the Throne Room The Larzuk Hell quest reward later, it had the RJoF for faster decrep proc’ing, and the Vamp is likely obsolete (but still stashed because there is plenty of room). The only other drop of note was a +2 skill Arkaine’s from Baal.
I’m hoping to push Quinta to 97.25 (currently at 97.15), so I will likely stop Baal runs with Death, and maybe focus on CS. Gripp runs with him have been pretty solid and fairly relaxed, so I may use that as a break when Nihl and Baal are wearing me down.
My hope is that Death can hit 95 and Quinta 97.25 before Pestilence pings that last level, all hopefully before MFO starts in six weeks. But with the fun of my Overburdened tourney Druid (at least so far) and likelihood that I’ll keep pushing him along also, that may be a bit overambitious though
Edit: Did a little tidying of the tables, moving any characters with last update from November 2018 or earlier into the resting heroes table, except people who've indicated they are still running at later levels even without an update.

Okay so I know I said I was going to take a break with Stevesy since I was frustrated at the killing speed and squishyness. Well, that plan went out the window pretty quick. Oh, and speaking of plans changing...
Not to let a little discouragement keep him down, Stevesy got back out there and did some more Eldritch runs. He gained some halfway decent XP, but after a few NDEs in quick succession he decided to try his luck elsewhere. He tried the Pits for a while to see if the XP was a bit quicker, and found himself a Dwarf Star along the way, but more NDEs proved a bit too much for my HC nerves and it was back to the drawing board. Desperate for some gear upgrades, and just some successful running in general, he tried his hand at Meph for a while. A few runs later we got an unexpected drop. Interesting. I went to ID it just for fun and:

I took this as a sign that my frustrations with Frenzy so far were telling me it's not the way to go, and figured this might be worth a shot even if it ends up costing a respec or two in the process. Let's see, shall we?
Life is doubled, resistances are solid, defense is up. Well, that should certainly help with the NDEs! His damage is still good too, as he's currently wielding his 'Oath' Balrog Blade two-handed. I also think this build makes a whole lot of sense for HC, as I can focus primarily on survivability since his skill-points are now wide open as opposed to stretched ultra-thin with Frenzy. Iron Skin, Natural Resistance, Battle Orders and Shout. Nice!
This will almost certainly be slower than Frenzy in the end, but safety is king in HC and I was beginning to get the distinct feeling that Stevesy's days were numbered had I continued on the same way. Also, there are plenty of unshifted barbs in here already, so some style points are always nice.
Oh, and most importantly: HE CAN RUN THE COUNCIL NOW!!
The merc can't handle anything over /p1, and it's slow as molasses even at that, but who cares? Time to get down to some rune-finding business! Even with Find Item with only 1 hard point he sits at 41%, so I just unshift at the end of the run and hork everything. Oh, and it's actually FUN. That's something I haven't been able to say about Stevesy in a while, and is the best development of this whole fiasco.
He ran the council until 86, found a Rockstopper, and then a Vamp Gaze for the merc to increase his sturdiness, and decided to break there for now. Next up: buckling down and finding some rocks.
@1have2much3time Ouch, condolences. That's cruel, especially at that level. I hope you'll bounce back with another character eventually.
@Pb_pal Now that's a cool switch. Wolfbarbs can be very strong. I doubt he'll be much weaker than a Frenzybarb, and he should be much safe. Also much easier to play at this stage, as you found out yourself.
Leveling starts to feel so long at 94+ when you are not running for something like RFL... IpBanPrevales (trapsin) will hit 95 maybe tonight, or tomorrow. I guess i'll switch from claws to hoto/spirit, she has more NDE than I'd like...

Personally I found 97-98 to be the most testing stretch because it takes much longer than previous levels, plus there’s "only" 98 and even more grinding ahead. :/
Maybe it is because I feel it slower with the trapsin than with hammerdin (only chars above 94 I am making for a while), and less secure ? Or maybe I'm just bad at traps handling

Agreed. I also found 97-98 the hardest overall. I did enjoy CD more than Nihl though so in that respect it evened out.
I even find my Lightning Sorc somewhat slow though. I guess it depends on what you are used to. Blizz sorc is one of the fastest character to level. Same applies to Hammerdin.

Act 2 and 3 were more or less a run through, as they were not efficient XP-wise. Therefore he ran to act 4 and started to run Diablo NM hoping for HoZ and some other end-gear parts i had planned to farm here or while doing Baal runs.

There also isnt really plan so far for the lvling, pits psn or summon baal. we will see.
So far i had one incredible good drop, best java gloves i ever found.

According to the time stamps on my screenshots I didn't play my UT99er chars since 27th of may, yikes
I got back into my necro a few days ago and found him at level 79 just short of the Anya quest. So I did some Pit runs until level 85 during which I found a Spirit base and rolled a 4os CA for the merc. At first I played on p1 but changed to p3 for the last few levels to 85. That got too slow for me though so I decided to do the Anya Quest and run Pindle for a bit until I reached level 87. Turns out an Insight CA with +6 CS and a good ED roll is all you need for p5 Pindle.
After getting to level 87 today I proceeded to roll an LK map (which while not perfect) is decent enough. I put a few points in Dim Vision to handle the monsters. That together with Clay Golem and a teleport staff makes the whole ordeal a lot smoother

Soon it will be time to run Hell and try not to die... maybe will have to run Countess a bit to craft a Lum/a third Io run and try to bump resistances crafting a Smoke armor. Furthermore, pat'ed without death would be an accomplishment on my year's goals, so i'll take care!

After yesterday night and today's sessions, IpBanPrevales hit lvl 95!
It has been completed doing Baal runs, mostly skipping Baal but sometimes jumping in. Drops weren't really useful or what, but two nice grailers for me: the M'avina's bow and a Darkforce Spawn, alongside with a Vex rune.
There had been some NDE on this second half, hopefully all had been under BO so it never went to a death, but i guess not dying is saving so much time now that i really don't want to try... maybe too careful sometimes in the end - and that's what allow traps, so it's fine!
In total - i'm playing other chars beside, like my Pally 99runner i'm currently taking much fun with - it took me more than a month to complete this level. Considering the decrease in XP, it's almost sure that i won't hit lvl 99 this year. I may even hit 99 with the Pally before - if my patience is not broke by LK running.

I'm back at it after my break following RFL round 2. Levels 89 thru 92 were mostly achieved farming Pindleskin with occasional pit runs. During RFL round 1 I had about 12 deaths to cows due to fail teleporting or screwing up the weapon switch.
I came back about halfway between level 92 and 93. My original plan was going to be to run WSK/Baal as a Fishyzon, but I don't want to deal with the hassle of either giving up CtA for a Wizendraw on switch, or manually moving weapons around mid-runs, so I decided I would use a respec to go full Lightning. I'd already used up all my quest respecs, so I ran Diablo and Baal until I got their drops and made a token.
I checked out my WSK maps, and they're not too bad for right now. Around 6 teleports for level 2 and another 6 for level 3. I'll probably keep the map for now in case I decide to switch things up and kill packs in WSK. No trouble so far in killing waves at p8/Baal at p3. Only stopping the runs if Lister is unbreakable LI.
@Vildecor Pure lightning will no doubt be more efficient, but if you really like fishyzon, I think the goto is to make cta in a +3 skill bow and just use that all the time on swap. I think I remember that @zemaj had one he liked. Good job on the progress!
The last RFL pushed the exp by about a quarter of the bar, but I forgot to update it before temporarily leaving the game... So here it is.

Using multishot AND strafe now. MS to clear all of RoF/CS, strafe to kill Diablo. I'm at the bugged 9/2 breakpoint for fastest procs. Avging 5fps per arrow hit.
Made Infinity for the merc with the remainder of the runes. Infinity on merc + swap to Atma on Diablo has by far the fastest killing speed on the big D. Swapping the amulet on and off for thousands of runs sounds very cumbersome though...
20~ hours of CS at the RFL. ZERO qualifers. - just the mandatory complaining here.

Gotta love vipers! And just look at Nihlathak over there looking all smug, thinking he got one over on Klaus. I had just enough time to land and hit ESC. That's the closest call Klaus has had that I can remember, and is a nice reminder of how quickly things can go south when the Oak Sage dies and Klaus loses his big health buffer. Needless to say the XP shrine went to waste.
Some decent drops followed in Jalal's, a Gul, a golden Shako, and a Facet (3/3 poison), and then some higher rune luck:

Beauty! HRs are coming at a pretty good clip for Klaus, which is a nice change from what Eleanor experienced at Nihl (which was not much, quite frankly). Having a nice stretch of rune luck is always a good way to keep the motivation going and the running feeling fresh! After that it was just a couple more million before reaching 98.2 and his next pit stop.

I also switched to Confuse instead of Dim Vision and I must say it's not much better. Oftentimes when some monsters are chasing me and I cast Confuse/Dim Vision they will still home in on me for what feels like five seconds or longer. My best friend is the clay golem. They always fall for him
Regarding teleport staves it seems some things will unselect the teleport charges from your right hand skill slot:

All in all I feel like Enigma is the first runeword I must make. I can only make Infinity in an eth weapon because I will rely mostly on the mercs damage and on the other hand I can't effectively use CtA without sacrificing the teleport staff. The only solution to the last problem is to use a teleport ammy but the ones I have only give 20 or so charges. Beast comes last naturally since it's only icing on the cake.
BabyNinetyNiner is still Baal running in nightmare, and hit level 79.
I'll add pics and dumps later, but some things have been found:

- a 123AR 34 life gc
- a pcomb skiller with FHR (!)

Lvl 80 hit, after something like 25/30 more Baal runs. At this level, just put everything in /p1, except for Baal who is still giving his 2000k+ xp per run.

@Babyhell That allres/DR amulet sounds very good. Definitely something to consider when making a dedicated DR build at some point.
I never done such build...I may check old drops, like magic tiaras I kept from RFL rounds, maybe i have one to go alongside the amulet. I'll have to find info on those kind of builds!
Don't forget, it's almost certainly more efficient time-wise pre-97 to not include Baal in the runs at all, so you may want to test out your XP/time doing just Ventar runs, Lister runs, and full Baal runs to see what's fastest. Unless you're looking for drops too, in which case Baal is likely the best choice.
Edit: I forgot that this is for a fishyzon. CS is such a strong Baal killer that it's probably actually more efficient to include him. Test it out anyways and let us know!
BabyNinetyNiner hit lvl 82, Andy has been defeated and ran with no real success dropwise, and most of the time passed doing Black Marsh's Hole runs, due to a nice map. Full story on dedicated thread as usual
I leveled up my barb to 96 and did some more baalruns, so he is 96.5 already. Had some bad encounter with might/cursed dolls and died like 2 times while trying to pick up my body. Fortunately the exp loss on low lvls isn't bad at all, so i was able to make up for that situation pretty fast. I have to be more careful though.
Wanted to post some pics of recent drops and update the exp table, but guess i can't do that because i am a new member and have only 1 post so far xD Anyone knows what are the requirements for being "trusted member" or where i can find them?
It's very, VERY safe as a wolf so far. The merc dies every now and then, but that's no problem. The runs aren't fast, but with this much life they sure are safe. The XP is decent, and the runs themselves are actually entertaining too, so that's a nice bonus.
Stevesy found his first decent rune in an Ist, and some cool S/U like Butcher's pupil too. Partway into level 87 we dropped an Um, a Wizardspike, and then just before the halfway point of the level we got our first REAL reward from Trav:
Nice! I gathered up supplies and prepared to roll all the Phase Blades we had. Well, I didn't need them all as he rolled 5 sockets on the very first one (Sorry T! ). So Stevesy cubed up his Um runes for a Mal and all of a sudden he's got his end-game weapon:
Mediocre damage roll, but the IAS is enough to get me to 5 fpa with Feral Rage, so I'm a happy camper. The major increase in power allowed for the /p setting to move up to 3 and still be slightly faster than his previous runs, so that's a huge win too. Stevesy threw a Rhyme shield on his off-hand for some cheap CBF and MF for now, but I'll have to start actually considering what to put there for the long term. I would imagine Beast would be the best option, but I've got loads of time to figure that out for sure.
Back to running he found a set of Ormus' robes (Blizzard), and then this beauty of a charm:

After that it was a Pul and then finally a gheeds (39%/10%) to polish off the level and leave him at eighty eight for now. All in all I'm extremely happy with the switch from Frenzy to Wolfbarb. It's obviously very safe which is much easier on the HC nerves, but it's also way more fun (so far anyway) and is the first time during Stevesy's journey that I feel he might actually make it to the end without dying.
I have some time off work for the next little bit, so expect the updates to keep on flowing
@ResTTe I'm not sure. I thought it was just a matter of being a member a few days, but that obviously must be wrong. I don't see it in the rules or anything. @maxicek do you mind clarifying or directing?

Whatever it is, grab a chair, make yourself comfortable, read up on some of the interesting threads here (warning: there's too many to be healthy if you get carried away), and soon enough you'll find yourself posting in this thread with all your updates, pics, and whatever .
TooMuchEnergy finally hit level 93 . Took her 6 hours, so in the end not too bad, but certainly not fast either.
Best drops were the 2os CoA I already posted about, Grandfather, Greyform, Pluckeye, 2x Nat's Mark, a Mal from AS (I did a few runs there as a change of pace) and a second Ohm from Pits, just before hitting level 93. I cubed it up with the first one I found and made my merc a new armor.
When I hit level 93 I switched to a Defiance merc. Now it's time to reroll maps and run LK until I have Infinity.
I've been very motivated lately to get my necro on his feet. I used 1200 keys on my LK map and found only one more Mal and a Lem, so nothing above Vex from there...
To mix it up I leveled on Pindle after key #1200, reached level 88 and found a unique Winged Harpoon. I also rerolled my LK map and stuck with a nice linear layout that only needs two teleports. So far I did 360 keys on this map and again got a ... Mal
That really bummed me out so I went back to Pindle (but kept the LK map!) to reach level 89 and that payed off big time!

@art_vandelay Necro is a cool class to play cause of CE but i loose motivation in taking him to 99, cause of the amount of LK runs i would have to do to get enigma and infinity. The good thing is that you can always farm LK only for enigma and then do some pit farming for infinity. Variety is nice sometimes xD

And I would guesstimate my amount of runs done so far in the 1500-1600 range. LK runs really aren't that hard to do quickly with Harmony, Teleport and some frw e.g. from Stealth.
All that is to say: there is no excuse not to do an UT99er
@art_vandelay 1.5k LK runs and you farmed infinity? What the heck? XD Wish i had that luck with enigma, but like i said, i had a random Lo rune drop and found enigma around the "average", so i can't complain for sure.

Ok, so i lvled up my barb to 96 and did some more baalruns, so he is basically 96.5 now. Had some bad encouter with might/cursed dolls and died like 2 times while trying to pick up my body. That's my second ever astreon's. It was dropped by baal himself, so a pretty crazy find considering the fact that i had around 300 baalruns on this barb's runcouter when it dropped.
Also found this eth redeemer from baal, which is a crazy drop too.
Will use all future Lo runes to make Grief in this PB for sure, unless i find 15ed one preferably with some AR xD

That's pretty much it for now. My current goal is to reach lvl 97 next week, which won't be a problem at all. My long term goal is to get this barb to 99 until like october, respec to pitzerker, roll some good map and do about 6k pitruns till the end of the year. The ultimate goal is to finish the holy grail with him only using the items he finds and socket quest he has, so no ias jewel in kira's/reaper's and no ed jewel in gface for me xD I will socket shako with cham rune (will farm for it, unless it drops till lvl 99) and 2 wizardspikes with ist runes. Using isted shako, trang's belt and some ias rare gloves/LoH instead of "typical" pitzerker setup is an option too, but we will se what happens. I also have to craft some caster amulets for him and getting a decent one is hard. Maybe i will also craft some blood gloves before running Nihlathak... We will see...
@art_vandelay - Nice finds! You should definitely go and post that Ber pattern into the LK Superchest thread, as it appears to be a new one from what I can tell. That's pretty big news, since it brings p5 to 3 Ber patterns vs the 4 for p8.
@Pb_pal have fruits pattern calculations not been posted in the thread yet? There are 4 ber patterns on p5 and 2 on p7, but p7 is still generally better because of more sur patterns. The time to find or cube ber is very very similar for p5 vs p7, but p7 offers more charms and jewels. I did some LK runs on p5 as well though in hopes of seeing a ber on the ground, but only did like 850 runs with no runes higher than lem 0_0
Edit: should we also edit the tables on the LK patterns thread? I know posting the calculated results is kind of against the spirit of the thread, but I also know that plenty of players link that thread for citing # of LK patterns. So it might be nice to display the correct (less optimistic) information.

@ResTTe Very nice progress and sick finds as well! The 6LS trap claws I did a rough calc on, and came up with it taking 190 hours on average to shop them . The astreons and sup phase blade are sick as well. Seems like you've had some excellent luck lately. Also you're lvl'ing at an impressive pace. I definitely won't catch up unless you decide to start grailing at like lvl 97. Then I MIGHT have a shot .

@art_vandelay Nice stuff. I did 850 p5 runs and didn't find a rune higher than lem, but found enough nice charms that I didn't mind. Looks like I should've stuck with it a little longer But sweet finds! Sur ber sur Lo in two hours!
I've been doing chaos runs with Arkana since she got 94. Didn't track the runs at first, but after 7-8 hours, I was 95.1. Here I decided to do twenty hours of running before taking a break and playing some other characters. Anyways I'm like 6 hours into that little project (so 13-14 hours total in chaos), and have had nice enough drops that I couldn't help but update

Got Trina to 94 doing Baal runs. Did about an hour a day during the week before switching to tournament characters. Added 3 deaths before I hit 30% into the level (1 from trying to run naked to my corpse, haha). The rest of the level was safer, only iffy part is when I blind teleport into the middle of packs.
Throne Room/Baal drops so far: Blood Raven's Charge, Mal rune, eth Shako, Leviathan, Frostwind, Hellrack, IK armor, and Arachnid Mesh on the run before leveling.

As for me well... new job still keeps me super busy + generally gaming less in summer + being drawn a bit to the intruiging depths of fighting games = almost no D2 gaming since RFL. But yesterday and today I picked up Lucid again and took him out for a few CS runs. I'll try to show him some more love, hopefully hit 97.75 within 1-2 weeks and provide an update on him then.
About 5 or 6 of the Lister runs had to be aborted due to ubreakable LI Lister. All of the Baal runs were completed by parking Lister if he spawned LI, so the XP/hr could probably be increased on those by doing a S&E instead. So it looks like I can do just about whichever I choose. I'll probably still include Baal at this point. He could drop my Griffon's, but I won't hold my breath.
I'm a little behind on responding to recent posts, but I'll just express relief that Klaus survived his close call and more generally say congrats for the good progress by everyone else!
Pestilence made steady progress and has eclipsed 98.75, so a little less than 11 hours to go, with Ancients XP factored in. Although his progress is steady and safe, his drops have been pretty terrible given the number of runs. Drops help keep up the motivation usually, so it’s felt longer even though his XP/hour is better than any of my prior 99ers and he’s also not died since early testing.
That said, he started off strong with Griffon’s as his third TC87 unique from Nihl:

And then that was it, in terms of drops worth screenshots. Runes were Gul # 3, plus two Mals and two Puls. So his Vex+ runes from Nihl so far are a Lo and three Ohms, so well behind the other Nihl runners
Other noteworthy drops were Dragonscale x2, 3os HHG, and that’s about it. A dozen unique rings that were all Nagel/Manald/Raven/Dwarf except a Carrionwind, two unique amulets (Nokozan and Saracen), and four RBF, one a 5/5 poison and another a 4/5 cold. He socketed the other 5/5 poison in his Shako when the second dropped, just for the extra -1 poison resist because why not. No charms of note or rare jewelry except for possible twinking use.
Okay, enough bellyaching about drops Pestilence had more than his fair share of luck so far with 2 vita PnB skillers, Dweb, a 2/20 amulet, and plenty of good runes before 98
Time to focus on the last stretch. He’s due break though, as we were getting sloppy toward the end with him. I hadn’t had life drop below 1000 since last gear shuffle, until the last little bit when we had this close call in the Halls of Pain and two S&Es at Nihl with <1000 life:
He will get the last 2M over the next day or two and then go on break until next weekend. We’ll see about some Baal runs with Quinta, who got an hour or so in last week, CS with Death, or more likely getting to Hell with my Overburdened tourney character or getting into the Three Way Dance tourney.
@Vildecor - Interesting that Baal is still slower, wouldn't have expected that. Are you using Delerium on the merc? That can speed up times as well. I know some don't love it, but I swear by it for all non-melee Baal runners (necros excluded obviously).
@PhineasB - Nicely done! Almost there, but smart choice to take a break if things are getting sloppy. I think a big reason Klaus has survived is because I've only played him when I felt like it and taken plenty of breaks with other chars. It only takes one bad run where you're forcing it too hard to undo a ton of work. Oh, nice Griffon's too.

Great! Things are very smooth by this point at Nihl, which is not surprising after thousands of runs. Still not fast mind you, but smooth, and that's good enough for me in HC. Verdungos next, then a rash of nothing until at the end of the set he popped a Shadow Killer and then:

So, im still avoiding LK runs with my necro but did lots of pindle/eldricht/meph runs with him (got a map 1 tele from waypoint to lvl 3)
Most of the times i did p3 on pindle and eldricht (hoping that the minions arround drop some HRS haha) but didnt find anything higher then gul which dropped on a chest before meph.
now i stopped doin meph and respecct to poison and do some pit runs, dno how long, but after that im gonna go to the lk...^^

@Vildecor - Interesting that Baal is still slower, wouldn't have expected that. Are you using Delerium on the merc? That can speed up times as well. I know some don't love it, but I swear by it for all non-melee Baal runners (necros excluded obviously).

From 95-96 I averaged 18mill per hour and so far it looks like it will be just above 9mill per hour for lvl 96. I'm guessing its not stellar though, since it equates to ~3.7mill/hour at 97, and some people average more than that at lvl 98 lol.
I bet the data is in our 99er compendium, particularly this section.
If my memory serves me well, I was averaging around 1:00 to 1:10 minutes for Gripphon runs with my untwinked Blizzard Sorc. I'm not really sure though. The tables in the compendium will be a better place to start .

@T72on1 I could always be missing something, but I have read the compendium many times and actually don't see any run data for anyone except gripphon, who I didn't aspire to compete with but the runtimes you mentioned match up pretty well with mine.

@Luhkoh I went back through the thread to see what Sophie was getting at various levels in CS as I remember posting EXP meter a lot. I saw someone mention run times and I want to point out that a lot of times having many boss packs near the seals contributed to higher exp/hour than just outright killing seals as quickly as possible.
96: 12-13m/hour
97: 5-6m/hour

Make that a couple of days, I forgot how fast this character gains XP. Starting with a small recap, last we heard from Lucid was a couple of months ago after I ran CS with him for the final round if RFL. His haul from two RFL sets:
With that second set I actually had hopes he could even finally deliver my first SPF tournament win, given I had won the preceding Travincal round... but @WoRG beat me with some out of this world 1.07 luck, resulting in yet another addition to my growing list of 2nd place tournament finishes.
Shortly after RFL I went on a break from D2. RL was super busy and I was a bit tired of the game. Last weekend I went back to some running with him, and being rusty and all, things started out with an unpleasant yet classic "no I am not going to pot" moment:
Well that was silly.. Corpse recovery was swift (thanks to Enigma, Hoto, CtA et al. stashed for that purpose), but still quite unnecessary to allow a death on this character in any case. It was less than one hour of running lost though and he quickly went on to move to 97.75, so no biggie at this stage.
Most noteworthy drops since 97.5 were a Shimmering (14) GC of Sustenance (33) and a couple of HRs (Ber & Ohm). Noteworthy S&Us included numerous TC3s and a 1% off perfect eth Hone. These and other drops:

Turns out the most awesome (and unique) variant is an interesting option, namely the Dream Avenger – which could include an ultimately classic eBotD BA. Somehow the build seems to have less issues with Nihl teleporting around than a Smiter. The bad news is that I also realized at ~25s per run it's likely only slightly more efficient than Diablo runs in terms of XP, and I suspect that will be true even when improving running technique as I go. I'll start by comparing Lucid's 98-99 CS numbers to my twinked tests at Nihl once he hits 98, but looks like I might stay in CS after all.
Hey guys! I know I have been away for awhile but just had a lot of stuff come up and haven't had time to continue my 99er. I wanted to move myself to the resting heroes section as I fully intend to finish this awesome journey. I haven't fallen yet! Hope you didn't think that was the reason I vanished haha. I did make it another 10% or so over the summer but don't have a lot of time for the coming months.

I too would like to assure my brothers that I am indeed alive and well, and am preparing to continue my journey forward to attain a level 90 character for the first time since I laid eyes on this glorious game. While level 99 is the ultimate goal, 90 is a milestone for yours truly, and I'm a little less than halfway into 89 until I reach such a point.

@ffs A true Hammerdin never leaves CS . Having said that, I'm surprised that Nihl wouldn't be a lot faster than CS at 25s runs. Iirc my Nihl runs were at 30s on average, resulting in some 2.7M xp/hour. I thought that CS was behind that.
Whatever the outcome is, I admire how you keep on testing various setups, often out-of-the-box ones.
Admittedly I only roughly ran the numbers. But generally 98-99 takes ~5.5k runs in CS or ~13k at Nihl.
P8/P7 runs in CS are 80-90s currently. If Nihl runs take 25s, then CS runs at P1/P7 would break even at ~60s, not factoring in XP shrines. Not sure if I can get P1/P7 CS runs to 60s – but given Lucid's map has 6 shrines, I’m fairly confident Diablo runs will get at least very close to Nihl efficiency after XP shrines.
That being said, how awesome would it be to hit 99 with an untwinked, eBotD wielding Dream Avenger? (The only thing Lucid is currently missing for that is a decent Dream shield base.) The massive style points factor is appealing for sure.

Ok I did make a little "for advice" video of my blizz sorc running CS. The runs have gotten very smooth in general, and needing to use 2 rejuvs on the first run must just have been camera-nerves I think this is a pretty average set of runs otherwise and indeed the exp/hr over the course of the video was just under 10M, so it wasn't anything out of the norm. But any advice is appreciated, I would love to get my exp/hr up to 12M or so. Also I will certainly try anything if it is strongly suggested, but I had tried out ice blast only, and using static more on infectors pack, but didn't notice any time difference to just spamming glacial spike, while the latter helps me a ton with safety.
Also my body recovery kit is finally complete and is super nice but I have a question. Hopefully I won't need the answer, but if you run up and click your single body (ie haven't died twice), you can then s/e without fear of losing gear even though you didn't pick up all the equipment from your corpse correct? It will just appear on the corpse in town, the same as if you have s/e right after death?
@Luhkoh Looks good to me, only thing I noticed is you could use SF at Infector. Other than that, just streamlining by running more I guess!
For those interested, I recorded a few test runs (twinked char) with Vengeance Dreamer at Nihl:
Gear is shown in the end. Since my only BotD (as of now) is in a GPA, I tried to kind of simulate Lucid's possible setup by using Oath BA with an extra IAS item. Ironically this results in lower damage than what Lucid would end up with, despite this being a twinked Pally. The huge attribute boost and ML from BotD would allow further optimization as well (more options for gloves, 2nd ring, amulet slots for example...).
I think Faith Merc is way to go, makes juggling IAS and FCR breakpoints much easier, while Reaper or Insight Merc would mostly be for QoL reasons, albeit considerable ones... But Faith Merc allows easy 8 FPA + 75 FCR. Without it I'd have to choose between either 10 FPA + 75 FCR or 9 FPA and <75 FCR – not super happy with those choices.
As you can see he's not too bad overall, with fast runs around 20s, but quite some variance. I guess he performs slightly better than Smiter due to the better range when using a BA. However, Merc died in one run and when Nihl rolled HF that also slowed me down. So yeah, not sure if this is better than CS running. Also if going for Nihl, Smiter with Exile or Last Wish is near immortal so that's another thing to consider. Tough choice for 98-99 that's for sure!
@Luhkoh It’s been a while but first thing I noticed is you’re not using Static Field at Infector pack and you’re using Glacial Spike which stops the entire pack besides the respective seal boss. You want the mobs to be moving inside of Blizzard to maximize damage. Glacial is only necessary if positioning goes bad when the seal pops but even then it’s probably just better to reposition. Also I wouldn’t bother waiting on merc to kill CI Infector and I wouldn’t stay too long to finish off a single minion etc (better to move on and hit the next seal pack).

@Yng ok great thank you for the feedback. Spamming glacial just originally made my runs so much safer that it helped a ton. After seeing the numbers you all were getting though, I will definitely try ditching it. Maybe reroll maps and rehire a HF merc too. And of course I will try to improve the other points as well. I'll let you know if I improve a lot!
Unrelated to Orion's journey (but still technically related to this thread since all my current characters are untwinked), I have just completed Normal p8 with my Phoenix Strike Assassin, and am now up to 4 characters in total: Patriarch Orion the Fanaticism Zealot (my favourite, of course), Champion Mistrianna the Meteorber (currently a Blizzard Sorceress so she can run Hell Mephisto and LK to ship things off to future characters who may be twinked), Slayer Xul the Summoner Necromancer, and now Slayer Ariana the Phoenix Striker.
I'm about to move on to the Amazon now, but I can't decide if I want to go with bows or javelins for a main weapon, with a spear on switch, and also don't know what skills to take a look at for Normal. Thus, I look to the very fine members of the SPF, for advice.
Vengeance dreamer looks pretty dang cool, and I hope you decide to go that route for the last lvl. Dual dream and ebotd on untwinked is just amazing. Much more fun than more chaos
@Luhkoh I had HF for my CS runs but in hindsight it’s a lot better to go without it. Similar concept to not using glacial spike, it slows down the packs too much so they’re not moving around inside Blizzard radius. Again, though, you’re sacrificing safety to push efficiency.

I'm not keeping track of the number of Trav runs Stevesy does for sanity reasons, but I figure I'll update when I hit a level or enough interesting stuff has gone on. The runs are extremely safe as I've stacked so much FR that I have 85% even if Convicted. Couple that with 4k+ like and it's brain off, right-click on.
The finds haven't been overly impressive (not surprising with only 66%MF), with it mostly being an assortment of Nagelrings and Manald Heal's, but as the level went on runes started to make an appeareance.
Plugging along like normal he found a Ravenfrost, a Fine SC of Vita, and kept on going. Waiting patiently for his next good rune drop he actually got something else courtesy of that measly 66% MF I was just making fun of:
Oh. Well then. It's non-eth and a mediocre damage roll but I don't care one bit! Amazing bit of news to get this drop so early on, especially for a (considerably) slower runner like a walfbarb. Obviously this sped up the runtimes quite a bit (well, relatively speaking) so things are more fluid now.
Man, there is something special about participating in this thread, I tell ya. Stevesy now has a Grief, Highlords, and Reapers on the merc but is missing pieces like a freaking string of ears and gores. RNG is (sometimes) awesome.
Shortly after that i decided to roll a map that didn't have Toorc inside, since I'd be spending a lot of time here and it was a nuisance to always chase him down. Stevesy found some middling uniques after that such as Arioc's, Wizardspike, Demon Limb, and a Steel Shade for the Merc, but otherwise it was a leisurely cruise to level 90.
Orion just found an eth 4os Conquest Sword, should I pull the trigger and make an Oath with it (I have all the runes for it)? Would it be a worthwhile upgrade to my Lightsabre? Or should I continue to hold out for an eth Cryptic Sword?
23 MINUTES LATER EDIT: After 50+ attempts at trying to craft a 5os Phase Blade for Grief, it goes and drops from a quiet and very-unassuming weapon rack. All I need now is a Lo, and I can finally make my very first Grief. The question now is, would this be a better option than an Oath in my new Conquest Sword?
@AlexTheNextOne - Grief will be a better option than Oath, but acquiring the Lo is no small thing. Although potentially easier than the 5os PB as you discovered Odds are good you'll find another Mal equivalent before getting the Lo, so I don't think it's a major loss to build the Oath. But you're likely better/best served rolling an LK map and saving the Mal until you get a Lo equivalent. Good luck either way!
@AlexTheNextOne Oath is really nice. Way worse than grief, but my vote is that you might as well make it to use until you find that Lo! If you end up only missing mal for grief you can always do a few hours of hell countess for it.
After Jemali's Might aura, this is the difference in damage I'm seeing now, I'm pumped!
I'm pretty sure that with this massive upgrade in damage (although the slower attack speed isn't ideal), I can consistently run /p3 in Hell now. I'm wondering if maybe I should try out some Trav runs, as well.

With lvl 20 fana, you just need 10 off weapon ias to get it. You should definitely grab some LoH to get that dmg up even higher! With the 20ias and dmg to demons you'll be set until grief.

@AlexTheNextOne - I would definitely give it a try. I don't think you'll go back to Dracul's, and the extra demon damage may make Council at p3 or higher a reasonable option.

Drops were good for this stretch. Fewer runes than for his last update, but that's OK given things like a very nice Griffon's Eye (+14/-20), FHR/4@ SC and a high roll Mara's (28@). He also found an actual damage upgrade with an OA skiller, and crafted a decent amulet:

As you may read between the lines, I do lean towards the Dreamer build for 98-99. Should be slightly more efficient than CS, but most importantly it's just too cool not do it.
Found an ST rack quickly, some 15 minutes of map rolling. Since I have a 61@ ST for my twinked chars already, I figured I'd take anything 35+ for this guy (moreover 5-20@ from Dream is a huge variance anyway).

The big thing first – after using my last socket quest on an eth BA, I made this BotD (which is I believe the 4th one in this challenge, after two from @zticazzy and one from @Bewitch). Roll is a bit below average, but of course more than good enough.

Dream ST – super nice as well, except for the low MF roll which doesn't matter much of course.
Faith DB – roll here didn't matter much either, any Fana roll would have done for 8 FPA Vengeance. But 2/14 isn't bad of course:

He has 3650 life and 630 mana after BO. Really happy with those numbers. Bloodfist is awesome for this build IMO, very nice life, min dmg (great for Vengeance) and FHR (taking me to the 86 FHR BP). Arach, FCR ammy and FCR ring are so that I hit 75% FCR on switch for reasonably quick Teleport. Nothing is set in stone yet though. Initial runs at Nihl were fine. Will do record a few runs maybe later or tomorrow.
@ffs just amazing. Gonna make for one of the most epic untwinked 99er endings for sure. Also, I don't remember if it shows the dmg right with dreams and vengeance, but if the LCS is relevant, show us that dmg!
I finished up my 20 hours of chaos with Arkana, and made it to 96.33. Did a few minutes extra to get to an even 2.8 billion exp. Leaving where we left off, the drops continued nicely for a while.
I have 7 jav skillers now (only 4 of any other type of skiller max), and 4 have life on them. I really should make a java.
With that last mal, I was only an um, mal, or ist short of making another cta, so i went countess a couple of hours and rolled this ugly thing.
But hey works great for body recovery and i cant complain when i got 4BO on my only other one.
Soon after this I hit 96! By far the highest I've ever leveled a character in all my long 15 months playing the game
I'm lucky enough to have found 3 shakos from mephy, but I was really excited to see my first non-mephy gold shako.
Was 140 def, and rounds out my body recovery kit quite nicely. I now have all the same gear on body recover, except soj is replaced with a rare ring with strength and res, maras 30 is replaced with a plain blue 30@ amulet, 1BO cta, and i left the glove spot blank just for a bit more stash space. So final result is 3 less skills and 200 less life, and 60fhr instead of 86. Not too shabby at all.
Nearly had to put it to the test immediately with an NDE.
I had gotten in the habit of popping infector's seal from the top right of it, for quicker access to where his pack usually spawns, but this makes him occasionally spawn right on top of me. Usually that doesn't matter as I can tank several hits and have plenty of time to rejuv or tele out, but this time with might, I had just enough time to hit esc immediately.
Unfortunately lesson wasnt learned, and I soon repeated this mistake. This time the pack spawned with fana, and I must have gotten crit a couple of times or something, because it looked like I was one-shot. This was my only death in these 20 hours. Body recovery was no problem with the recovery gear and I only lost like 40 minutes. This did finally make me learn my lesson though and I popped the infector seal from below it from here on out.

Also found a heaven's light, and then one huge find for me.
I was slightly concerned that I hadn't found this yet. Though with like 90+ hours remaining in chaos, that's surely too early to worry, but I was complaining about that fact to my buddy @sir_cyclops, and sure enough, it drops right before the end of the 20hrs. I have 150mf and found like 4 unique rings the whole time. Worst pdr roll, but I don't mind

Sorry for spamming recorded a couple of runs. The map only has 2 shrines on his path, but I think I'll keep it for now since it plays nicely with pretty comfortable monster spawning locations. Averaging around ~3.45m XP/h in this batch to start things off. Happy with that given my misclicks, several annoying rolls and only one XP shrine kill. Let's see how (if) that improves with more practice. Setup and build shown at the end, slightly different gear than stated above (still testing things).
People who played Dreamers may wonder why I didn't max Salvation (only 10 points), but instead maxed another Vengeance synergy first. Reasoning is that if Nihl rolls LI, I'd like to have a bit more punch with another element. Resist Fire made most sense given Nihl only has 33 FR normally (as opposed 70 CR, i.e. Conviction can't get him down to -100). It was more of a gut feeling and I didn't run any numbers on this, but it seems to hold true as LI rolls are pretty easy.
@ffs Thanks! And don't apologize for spamming. We want all the good info on the most unique nihla runner in this thread yet. You better not wait a month and then leave us with an "I made it".
Also not only is it crazy that you even have the rune wealth untwinked for all of this, but I find it really amusing that you've made ebotd in the most common base, in about the only situation where it makes sense to me to use that base.
@ffs you can vigor from entering game to WP to save a fraction of a second (lol) and again C/T is dope with your map having both paths NW (no hp/mp bulbs in the way). It’s small but it could contribute another 0.1 m/h or whatever if used correctly, might be worth trying.
E: running Pindle lately and god did I just get a reminder of that envy-inspiring no delay..
For C/T we had this before. Whenever I compared XP/h with or without tele trick for running Nihl, it turned out to be more efficient not to use it. With it I don't reliably see shrines in HoP and land precisely next to HoV entrance 100% of the time. That being said, you're right about the map being more suited for it than others, will check out if it makes sense to use it here.
Vigor would indeed be nice, in fact I've used it for even smaller distances (e.g. for CS runs with Lucid when from A4 TP to WP to check shrines in A1 while Diablo spawned). Thing is I dropped it. This build doesn't need any Defensive Aura skills other than synergies, so it would have cost me 4 skill points to get (low level) Vigor, I'd rather put those the points into synergies.
Pestilence finished the last stretch without incident (I forgot to take the screenie until after S&E on that last run because I was focused on recording the video, so we had to open a new game to memorialize the occasion.)
Edit: I also forgot to include drops for the last stretch. They picked up actually, with Sur #1, Gargoyle's Bite, and Gul #4 worthy of screenshots. Other notable drops were Um #3, Schaefer's, 2os Tomb Reaver, Leviathan, and a few others. @ffs well you made me want to follow a part of your path regarding Dream runewords, but for now Travincal is not really delivering...I may keep following the Lo Lo path (Grief Fortitude), and wait after an Exile base, to make it as classical as possible. Will give a chance to Travincal until 90 - a portion of level left - then for areas on which one efficiency will be better for a Zealer? I guess CS all the way, but maybe there's a niche I don't know?

@Babyhell I don't know much about Zealadins, but maybe they can do well up to level 92 - 93 in Pits too? But certainly not without Enigma. While I should know, I don't immediately recall if you have that one. If not, definitely wave runs first, Baal runs once you reach the higher levels. At least from a xp perspective. Including Baal might be worth it in terms of drops.
You don't only want CB, but a combination of CB and raw damage. So I think that Gores and Guillaume's with Grief as weapon, LoH as gloves and Highlord's as amulet is the way to go. That way you have 50% CB, around 60% DS and 350% ED to Demons, which Baal happens to be . If you do want to include more CB, I wouldn't go for something so expensive like Last Wish. Go for Death instead. Together with the gear I mentioned it will bring you to 100% CB and 100% DS. Made in a BA you would still get to the fastest Zeal breakpoint with the gear mentioned and an ias jewel in both helm and shield.

I'm sure others have experienced this with Nihlathak (or extended running in general), but I find myself keeping track of some weird stuff while running him endlessly to keep the monotony away. What's cool about this update is nothing impressive, nor is it anything that anyone will care about, but it's always fun to find 'patterns' in RNG. Nihlathak only dropped 4 things that warranted screenshots, and they all dropped almost exactly 5 million XP apart, flanked by 10M or so of nothing on each side. Like I said, not exactly impressive, but I'm going a little stir crazy with Nihl right now and Klaus is also in a bit of a drop drought so anything noteworthy is exciting to me.

I am so impressed with this thread. I spent who knows how many thousands of hours on this game, and never did THAT.
That said, now that this game has dragged me back to it, I'm dipping my toes in this little pool of crazy. This is something new - I was never much for untwinked play, and the highest level character I had in bcoe v.1.0 was 97, if I remember right.
We'll see how far I get, but my untwinked amazon just finished normal. My plan is to keep her a bowazon all the way through... Once more into the breach...

After completing the level at Travincal, getting a Gul and a Fal as two best runes, he decided to push towards Diablo then Anya to free up some inventory space... well, currently at River's waypoint. Full story to be disclosed later on own thread, the only spoiler well be the hellforge.

After a long hiatus I checked the box by beating the game with a HC character (on the 19th try).
My next project is to create a Hammerdin, I was hoping to trade up for an enigma but realize now that is not going to happen. Most of the other items I have aren’t too rare so that gave me the itch to go untwined.
I currently run two Sorcerers that are not very multidimensional and this project will afford me the capability to go anywhere and do anything (almost).
Going untwined will, I hope, bring greater reward, and doing it as a Hamerdin will check the rest of my boxes (minus an untwined HC 99 but humidity is key)
It is very likely I am biting off more than I can chew here as reading several threads about getting to 99 has desensitized me to the work involved but I won’t know until I try!
Tonight I will start Comrad. I don’t have a plan for the build or where I’ll get what items at what level but that will all be figured out in (wasted) time.
Is using Gomule for an extended stash allowed? Or things need to be self found and self stored.
Do you all play on P8 for as long as you can, or at least normal? I was thinking all my twinked chars had Khalim’s will among others and now I’m thinking about fighting Andy on p8 and how that would go..
My plan is to power through to normal Baal, gain some XP, MF NM Mephisto for a while, get to NM Baal. Start hell low 70s or so, MF Mephisto and when the time is right live at LK until I can make the “necessary” runewords. Even typing that now I see the gaps. I’ve been running LK with my sorc and my finds have led me to go untwinked to 99! Go figure.
Anyway I realize anyone going to 99 will have a depth of knowledge I lack but I’m hoping to bypass the learning curve somewhat as the expense is time in this case.

I recommend checking out our SPF 99er compendium, linked here, which compiles a lot of good info and has a section on approaches to the leveling process, including early play. It includes a subsection specific to untwinked for each of the four "phases" of play. Also, it's definitely okay to use GoMule; most people have, but I few play with the extra restriction of limited stash. Good luck!

After doing this a few times, I would go p7 with direct play through and some MF at NM Meph and leveling at NM Eldritch and Pindle as needed before moving to Hell. The higher p-settings help with better gem drops and MF rig for the NM playthough, which can make the starter kit for Hell easier to acquire. But:

I remember being in this situation about a year ago, trying to plan my route to 99. Adapting and learning untwinked Single Player play has been such a rewarding experience thus far.
I always play all of Normal on p8, for three main reasons: the challenge level feels right, more items drop to help gear my early-game character, and also because I hate not having access to my level 30 skills by the time I reach Diablo/Harrogath.
After that, running Eldritch for a bit until the mid-30s is always the next step, which makes Act V go smoother in general. I find I don't really run Normal Baal that much at all, to be honest, I find it takes too long, and my higher level and planned skill distribution tends to be what carries me through the earlier parts of NM.
One important thing I've learned so far is to not ignore the fruits of running NM Meph, especially if you're a Sorceress. There are a million questions, guides, and opinions on everything to do with Hell Meph, but he can actually drop a lot of really useful items even in NM which will let you push into Hell, things like Oculus, Skin of the Vipermagi, Rockstopper, Skullder's, War Travs, Shaftstop, Titan's Revenge, Duriel's Shell, and even HoZ (good luck with that one, though).
BabyNinetyNiner's map disclosed here, i personally find that combo really nice, after completing the lvl 91 at cows mainly trying to drop elite bases for Exile craft.

Lucid moved to 98.1 – time for a brief update given a couple of nice drops and some information on initial experiences with the Dream Avenger build.
Frequency of S&U drops increased in comparison to his CS stage, given ~220 MF and Nihlathak being a decent MF target of course. The early big boys were Earth Shifter, Azurewrath, 3os Head Hunter's Glory and Griswold's Valor. I also made an eth Scourge 'Oath' for corpse recovery, which got a nice 336 ED roll, and found a couple of cute eth uniques. These and others:
As with my other 99ers, I started the Nihlathak stage by pushing him hard to get a feeling of what he can handle while not risking significant XP amounts. This resulted in one death around 3M into the level when testing different gearing options, during a Cursed + LI + Vipers run. That roll is indeed dangerous, and while I sometimes complete these runs, going forward this will likely just be S&E'ed immediately for the sake of a smooth routine.
Generally he is very tanky, though. Witches are no issue, though they can make quick work of the Merc in case of Might or Fana rolls. He has a comfortable window to react to Viper clouds, often even offsetting their damage via leech. His death was really slow S&E reaction on my side. All other rolls I usually finish unless there are numerous Vipers, in which case S&Es aren't uncommon irrespective of Nihl roll, albeit usually for reasons other than his own safety: Merc dies very easily to them (resulting in time lost resurrecting), and Lucid being exposed to possible danger often isn't worth it considering those runs take longer in general. Certainly Vipers were less of an issue with my previous caster-type 99ers, but probably that's just life when running Nihl with a melee + Merc approach.
Somewhat counter-intuitively, I found the best approach is to just teleport right into the fray next to Nihl every time, including Viper spawns. Being surrounded immediately maximizes chances of CC effects proccing quickly, thanks to CTC from two Dreams and Delirium. Even if e.g. Vipers launch projectiles immediately, there's plenty of time to reposition slightly out of the clouds and finish the run safely with CC effects triggered, or to S&E if things get ugly.

While I liked Bloodfist, my FCR ring/amulet options don't have very strong adds, so in the end I preferred having >3800 life, extra leech and high resists throughout with the above setup. I also ran with Nature's Peace for a bit but eventually dropped it as well. (Btw I found NP will not deny a corpse if the HS pulse from Dream kills a monster, FYI.) As for A1 Faith Merc setup, she hasn't been used around here so there's plenty of things to try out. For a while I went with Gloom for a fourth source of CC (Dim Vision), but it didn't trigger enough to make it worthwhile IMO. Currently I like Gladiator's Bane, providing CNBF and iDR to help her with Viper clouds.

I have a small confession to make. I'm a little bit behind in my writeups, and with having some time off from work lately I've been running more than usual. Put those together and we have ourselves a DOUBLE UPDATE!

Oak Sage got toasted straight away and Klaus was put into hit recover by the archers (thanks, amp!). I tried a couple teleports with no luck and then had to S+E to avoid my stubbornness leading to Klaus' death. Fun stuff, those NDEs.
He was however rewarded slightly for staying alove by some actual decent drops. First he found a Lightsaber, and followed that up with a Wizardspike, and then a nice 9% csd Nightwings:
Something I'm surprised about is that motivation to keep running has not waned. It's some weird combination of the runs not being all that fast, but (mostly) very safe. Not worrying about my XP/hour constantly has allowed it to be much more leisurely and keeps the burnout away, but still allows for quite steady progress.

Anyway, I am taking two weeks holiday form 19th August, so I will be buying a new monitor (my last one started spewing smoke and it was all very dramatic) and playing some D2. I've decided to dive back into the Untwinked 99er Tournament with a CS running concentrate barbarian. He will be called Stonewall. Hopefully, I will have him running CS by the end of my holiday and his CS running can then be a source of relaxation like Fordyl's was. Yey!
I think I am 10 days in but now sitting at level 76. Normal and NM were pretty uneventful, with stops at NM Meph and Baal but the drops were dismal.
First good find was a 5os Great Poleaxe so after a visit to the help forum and two hours my Merc has obedience. Not sure why I didn't get RWM before, it is awesome.
My plan is to just gear up in the most boring way. I am looking for a 3os helm and will put three Ptopazes to try to move things along.
I went heavy in BH so hammer, conc and vigor are all maxed. 2 into HS and 15 so far into Baim.
Stats have been standard with 55 unspent. Again, the main issue is gear. I am currently using a +1 to BH scepter I bought a week ago. If anyone has a recommendation other than getting MF and running Pits I am all ears. I will claw away at Hell as I get bored of running.

I have never seen this mentioned but it seems relevant to this thread: When you run p8 Pindle with a pure Blizzard sorc and get killed you are usually screwed because the guys in the garden rise and they're all CI, right?
Well, I made a bad teleport and landed right in Pindle's pack. I was dead instantly and in a desperate move to get my 7,5% back I revived the merc and went through the red portal only to find that there were hardly any resurrected skeletons!
I think because I pressed 'esc' immediately after dying the skeletons in the garden didn't have time to rise yet (or at least not all of them) and their corpses despawned when I 'left' the area. (even better: I didn't cast any spells before my death but I found Pindle dead when I returned; the Snowclash Blizzard proc must have killed him )
I guess this means that you shouldn't linger on the 'was slain by' screen in Pindle's garden or you won't get your XP back.

Time for a pre-MFO update! Quinta made it through the first quarter level to 97.25, so 275 of 1100 Baal runs down for this level. She did a little CS early on, but settled into Baal, with this great map rolled after a few tests in CS showed continued faster XP gain from Baal:
She’ averaging > 5M XP/hr, so maybe a little faster than Phaedrus but certainly no slower, which is really nice at this point. I haven’t timed runs, but she always finishes before BO wears out (170 s) unless I have to park Lister (in which case I recast before Baal now so it doesn’t run out mid-fight).
She was just shy of 97.15 when Pestilence hit 99 two weeks ago, with Baal runs on-and-off as he made the push through June and July. She shared time with my Overburdened tourney Druid since then and finished up her runs yesterday before we leave for two nights away.
Finds were pretty solid despite only 198 MF up until 97.2, when she dropped a cold resist/life SC for 7MF SC. The first was a Sur from early testing at CS, then an eth Heaven’s Light, Spirit Keeper, and Shadow Dancers. Only rune from Baal was an Um from the Waves, and he recently rerolled an Elemental Skiller of Sustenance, which is quite nice! Other notable finds were Cerebus’ Bite x2, eth TStroke, Boneshade, Tomb Reaver x2 (both 3os), and GBane, plus a few lower eth items for my eth grail.
She's now Ist x2 short of CoH and Delirium, which she will want for Nihl at 98 (Delirium for sure, as I think life leech may not be needed for the merc on those runs). If she can complete them during this level, she will also test out the Delirium set up to see if it speeds up the Waves.
I’m hoping that she gets another quarter level during MFO. Depending on how much time I have the first weekend, she may get further along. I can settle into long stretches of Baal: although the pauses between waves are annoying, it does make for a leisurely play style

Currently i respecced to mf summoner, summoning with arm of leoric and then play with wizzy which is pretty nice cause of the allres and mana so u can focus mainly on mf on restgear.

S/U finds have been a little better as of late. Stevesy started off with a Felloak (awesome, needed that for the grail!), his 2nd Highlord's, a Shako, gheed's, Butcher's Pupil, and a Kira's for the merc. And then:

The Overburdened Tournament has renewed my love for this game, and I haven't played a traditional character in years. Reading this thread has inspired me, so I made a Hammerdin over the weekend
I've never played a Hammerdin (ever. Even in my Bnet days in 1.10), and I've never guardianed a single character, so I'm thinking as a long term project, I'll try for a HC 99er Hammerdin. Crazy, I know, but softcore just isn't interesting to me these days. Paladins are also pretty good candidates for HC, with max block being easy to achieve with holy shield, and life per vita being relatively high
I've also never named a character after my forum name, so Dazliare is the name for this one. The name Dazliare came from World of Warcraft's random name generator back in 2004 - a Night Elf Rogue. I thought about doing an assassin just to fit that theme, but Assassin's in D2 are female, and Dazliare is not a female name
This is meant as an extremely long term project. I don't have kids or a wife, and I live with my brother who's also a gamer, so big projects like this that take a lot of time really appeal to me. I have an 18,000 piece jigsaw puzzle I'm working on as well, to give you an idea of my life Classic WoW is coming out soon, and I'll be playing that quite a bit, but won't start until mid September, so I have about a month to work on Dazliare and Melisandre in the Overburdened Tournament

Because I didn't want to have five UT99ers started with none close to finish I vowed to take one of them to a reasonably high level with as many milestones behind them as possible before I updated here again. After 14 days of playing it is done, tragic_misstep the sorceress reached level 93.
I started her after coming home from a particularly boring late shift at my summer job and over the next three days I got her to Hell and rolled a sweet LK map after which I promptly forgot her for a week
When I returned to her at the end of July I started recording her drops, when I played her, general strategy as well as XP progression. This gives a whole new perspective on how 'lucky' one is or how much time it actually takes to level (that XP bar moves slower at the beginning and the end, I swear ). I guess at one point I'll turn my notes into a spreadsheet so I can guesstimate my time to 99 more precisely.
This LK map was insane with only minor flaws (3 doom apes getting stuck behind a superchest which prevented me from popping it ... wth? ) and doing p5 runs I found the runes for HotO, CtA and Infinity after using 2880 keys (~2520 runs). The HotO rolled 30@ and the CtA had 3 BO, good enough!
To break the monotony of LK I mixed in Pindle as I did those LK runs which meant that I reached level 89 before leaving LK. Not only that but Pindle was nice enough to drop not one but two bombs on me:
The next step required me to reroll my sweet LK map for a Mephisto map. I got a three teleport map for him and to my suprise a decent AT map to boot! From this point on I ran a mixture of Mephisto, AT and Pindle to level 92 which netted me tons of nice uniques and sets as well as a 4os eth CA (I'm still waiting on Infinity... that base would be sweet for an Insight)
Over the course of all of this I found three more grailers (Death Cleaver, Executioner's Justice and Medusa's Gaze) which puts me at grail -25. But the real kicker is this:

I continued my Mephisto+AT routine for a while after this dropped but I didn't use it. After getting to 20% of the way 91->92 on saturday I got frustrated with the slow XP gain in AT and decided to try p8 Pindle for real. About 900 Pindle runs (and some deaths with recoveries) later I sit at level 93!

Next goal is to run Mephisto some more for a Rising Sun, Kira's, Steelshade and maybe an Arach. After that it's Travincal until I have the runes for either Beast/Dream/Dream or Phoenix, depending on wether I decide on Bearsorc or Firesorc for 98->99. A lot is up to luck here. In any case I want Fortitude for the merc.
If the Rising Sun doesn't emerge from that I will have to go back to normal to MF for Hotspurs before I proceed to level in the CS.

I assume you're planning on doing chaos as a blizz sorc until 98? Just my 2 cents as someone who has only does 1000-1500 of the runs so far, but I don't think you need hotspur or rising sun. I think 75 fire res is fine for sorc (I just use aldurs and maras). She stands in the fire breath a lot less than hammerdin. I would say delirium, 75 fire and poison res, and powerful(ish) blizzard (I would def use that ormus tbh, congrats on that I'm jealous ) are the main things you need for the runs. I do have a lot of mdr though. That's probably helping me out a good amount too.
Would you rather go to CS now and run to 98 and see what runes drop for your bear/fire sorc, and then go to trav at 98 if CS doesn't give the goods? Just curious. If you were doing blizz CS anyways, it should yield quite a decent amount of runes before 98, whereas trav gives so little exp after lvl 93 or 94.
@Luhkoh Nope, no Tal's Amulet here... instead the game thought that a second Guardianship would go well with the first Part of the reason why I want to do Trav is to get some good jewelry for her. I also lack a decent fcr ring and they are so good at dropping rare rings.
And yes it's CS to 98 if nothing unexpected happens. I am not yet convinced of the potential for rune drops there so I'd rather do it a bit safer with Travincal runs. It's not like 10 hours of Travincal will increase my overall time radically.
Also as for safety: I am not convinced that I want to use Delirium because it just seems too dangerous to lose something to a crash. But your point about her not standing in the middle of infernos is spot on. Instead I guess OKs will be more dangerous with their high elemental damage.
The one thing I know is that Pindle is over for me. It's 605 or so runs for 92->93 and I am sure that the 93->94 transition will be over 1000 runs... I guess I should learn how XP works and find out how many Pindle runs you need for 99
@art_vandelay great point on 10hrs of trav being insignificant. If you feel like doing it, then why not? May drop something really nice and useful. I guess my point is that you lose very little if you do those 10 hours of trav after you get lvl 98, because the xp from trav is paltry compared to CS anyways. Rare rings are a good enough reason though if you don't feel you are adequately geared for chaos.
As for the rune drops, it's certainly less efficient for runes than trav, especially doing exp-type runs rather than RFL-style runs. However after you kill vizier and and infectors group 5k times on p8, you'd have to have some seriously bad luck to not find some really nice runes
I can't recommend delirium enough though. Definitely worth the ist to try it for several runs. I only had 1 crash in the runs I've done so far, and the chance of losing anything from it (as long as you remember to unequip it during body recovery) seem like almost nothing. I feel like it may be suboptimal from an efficiency perspective if your sorc is a TANK like frozzen's old videos (max block stormshield 1.07 ark, beta cta), just because it keeps the monsters from getting in a single tight group. But I built my sorc pretty dang tanky for a vita variant, and I think runs are, by comparison anyways, relaxing with delirium and rather stressful without. But you'll have plenty of time to test many merc setups. I'll be interested to see what you like the most since there are several reasonable choices.
And yeah the ok's are annoying. The main danger imo is just taking melee hits because the density is just thick, but without a careful eye on the life bulb, a multishot ok can take you down really fast. I think the big mdr I have equipped helped the most on them.
I have a terribly organized exp spreadsheet I made that I should share with you. Its roughly 100k p8 pindle runs from 98-99 @Bukama you do get exp from him (5% if clvl-mlvl>= 10), but it's so little that most people just say it's nothing.
And idk the specific's of your gear, but it sounds to me like you have enough to get the CS grind started if you want to. P8 AT wasn't too far behind for me though at lvl 93 and 94 if you wanted to stay there for a while.
Figured I might as well mention it here since this is my main hangout, but I wanted to hint at a very special (at least for me it is) thread/journey I have planned once I finish Normal with my Exploding/Freezing Arrow Bowazon (should have gone with javelins, because this has been quite a slog... looks like my prior 1.09d experience is a tad outdated), followed by carrying a Barbarian through Normal as well.

Made my normal mfruns - pindle, cs, mephisto, travi, andy on p3 and i really had a lot of great drops - including 3 HRS and a DEATHS WEB!
So before the DW (+1 -41^^but my first DW ever in singleplayer and that on untwinked necro, crazy) i found 2 OHM runes, which i later upgraded to a Lo rune and made a eth forti dusk (under 1k def base haha) and it rolled perfect, 1,5 life and 30 allres.
After the deaths web i used all my gems beside Amethists for rerolling charms but didnt get a single nec skiller (so 0 pb skillers so far) and respecct to poison and after some pit runs i found a Sur rune^^

Dazliare is level 47, in act 2 Nightmare. Like I mentioned previously, I've never played a hammerdin, so I'm learning how they work as I go. The transition from normal to nightmare has been a bit awkward for me
I was hoping to grind pindle for some levels and gear, but single target is really awkward with a hammerdin until you have insight and some levels in hammers, so that didn't work. I tried cows, which was ok I guess, but not great. Baal runs were good xp wise, but really obnoxious without insight, and I pretty quickly realized baal himself wasn't worth killing. He can be colossally annoying if he wants to be.
I ran a bit of the Countess for some basic runewords - Lore and Rhyme specifically, which have been helpful. Most of my last 7 or so levels came from countess and NM andy runs.
Then Andariel dropped an ethereal war scythe. It's a crap base, but ugh I need mana so bad. So I cubed it, and boom! 4sox!
I went back to countess to farm the sol, and got a crappy Insight roll, but it's a huge boost
Hammers are now maxed out, 10 points in concentration, enough in holy shield to max block and have it last longer than 30 seconds, so I'm feeling much better
I'll spend some time reading through this thread today and tomorrow to understand some of the ways I might level in the future. I'm thinking NM Chaos and meph runs are in my future. When I originally made this character, I was thinking I would do pindle until ~90, but without respeccing, that feels like it might not be the best plan. I'm hoping to save the ancients for the end too, so I'm limited on respecs. I guess I do have two respecs left, so I could use one to make some kind of AT/Pindle runner, then the last one to go back to hammers for CS
That said, I think those of us who’ve done Hammerdins have focused on CS for leveling and LK for runes to Enigma. For earlier levels, I found Pindle difficult with hammers, so I’d consider Eldritch as an alternate. That’s what Phaedrus did, them some Pit runs, until he could tackle RoF/CS.
The Overburdened Tournament has renewed my love for this game, and I haven't played a traditional character in years. Reading this thread has inspired me, so I made a Hammerdin over the weekend
I've never played a Hammerdin (ever. Even in my Bnet days in 1.10), and I've never guardianed a single character, so I'm thinking as a long term project, I'll try for a HC 99er Hammerdin. Crazy, I know, but softcore just isn't interesting to me these days. Paladins are also pretty good candidates for HC, with max block being easy to achieve with holy shield, and life per vita being relatively high
I've also never named a character after my forum name, so Dazliare is the name for this one. The name Dazliare came from World of Warcraft's random name generator back in 2004 - a Night Elf Rogue. I thought about doing an assassin just to fit that theme, but Assassin's in D2 are female, and Dazliare is not a female name
This is meant as an extremely long term project. I don't have kids or a wife, and I live with my brother who's also a gamer, so big projects like this that take a lot of time really appeal to me. I have an 18,000 piece jigsaw puzzle I'm working on as well, to give you an idea of my life Classic WoW is coming out soon, and I'll be playing that quite a bit, but won't start until mid September, so I have about a month to work on Dazliare and Melisandre in the Overburdened Tournament

I think I've mentioned this before, but I consider a CS hammerdin to be one of the safest HC 99er options by far. They are so damn sturdy. If I remember correctly @T72on1 HC hammerdin deeds was bad luck or something, and he would probably be 99 otherwise

He is running with minimal gear but nearly maxed resis and 232 MF has been working.
Time wise, Eldritch has been the most efficient as I can run him on p8, can't place my merc so Pindle kills me 50% of the time on p1. Meph simply takes too long and the XP from Eldy is a big plus.
At this point my Merc is better than me in nearly each category with Obedience, Tals helm, and a Leviathon that dropped today (my best item to this point).
I think I will keep running Eldy for another level or two and then either roll a LK or Pits map. I need to look into running LK when actually running and not teleporting but I don't think I'll need any gear before doing so and Enigma will probably be the most needed item.
Anyway it has been a good ride up to this point and it is amazing how much killing power a hammerdin has with +0 to skills.
@ddknoll with 0+skill, if you're not HC, I suggest an Harmony craft to speed up the available Vigor aura. Or Spirit swords and shields, but if you don't have it yet it may be due to not using battle.net runewords, Harmony availability may therefore be checked with such constraint (i guess they are available as you are using an obedience weapon for merc?).
For UT hammerdin, apart the 2nd act tiny spaces and 2nd Baal wave, things are easy most of the time

I have never heard of anybody putting a Stormlash/Schaefer's into an Iron Golem to be honest
Anyway I looked at the AB and I tried to find out how fast an Iron Golem hits. First of it has a 15 frame delay between hits and then the best attack rate it can get is 9 fpa so you can reach at most one hit every 24 frames (assuming you do in fact hit!). For the attack rate of each of these three weapons I calculated the following values:
Look up the combination you want and then compare the value to the column 'EIAS' in this table at the AB.
(if somebody wants to spot a mistake, here's my sheet)
For waves you will always be under decrep and I guess you will use Faith no matter what, so Schaefer's, Schaefer's 'Shael', Stormlash and CM PB will have a fpa of 20, 17, 14 and 12 respectively. Which leads to an actual number of 35, 32, 29 and 27 frames per attack respectively if you take the AI delay for the golem into account. So on average (and assuming the golem has 95% CtH, which is only true for CM PB) it should take 7.7, 6.7, 8.1 and 16.2 seconds respectively to trigger static. I kinda thought that CM PB would win this one easily but it looks like the low CtC makes it unfeasible.
I'm pretty sure Insight will cause you less heartache than this, considering that one Death will mean the end of your experiment
EDIT: I'm not sure whether my UT barb will ever hit 99 but if so then this thing definitely played a roll (found it in normal!)

Don't think CM IG will make a noticeable difference, low proc % and slow attack speed... but could be worth a shot. When using Infinity Merc, I'd go with Insight IG for sure.

Yes Hammerdins are very safe. Mine died because I played him while under the influence of a few beers, and I didn't recognize Conviction seal boss in time.
I’ll start looking for weapons for spirit, I’m always looking out for 4os pally shields with high resistance but no such luck thus far. Finding one would enable me to remove smoke but I don’t have skin of the vipermagi or skully yet. I’m really hurting in the helm department so hopefully that beauty drops soon!
What’s nice about going untwined is I’m gaining XP while these runs anyway so it’s hardly a waste of time. With some more gear I’ll park in LK which I am certainly not looking forward to but we all need to pay our dues.
I'm really enjoying working on Dazliare - running bosses and areas brings me back to my college days. Today I did some NM Eldritch/Shenk/CS runs. CS was really dangerous though, so I ended up just running eldritch/shenk on P5 until clvl68. I found a few upgrades - a grand charm with 13@ and a circlet with 19@, which made me feel a lot better about continuing through act 5
Hell Lords in the Halls of Anguish were pretty scary, but we made it with few troubles. Baal and his waves were done on P1 just to see how it went, and honestly it was really easy. My hammer damage is ~2.5k, so the waves just melted. I'll probably hang out at NM baal for a few levels and hopefully find some decent gear along the way
I was also thinking about doing cows to try and find a 4os pally shield, though I'm not sure if that would be very successful. I don't think I'll start the LK grind until at least clvl80 since I'll run it at P8 without teleport. I have this thread bookmarked, and slowly reading through things at work to get an idea of what I can do safely.

@Dazliare I just finished an untwinked hammerdin playthrough, though not HC. I would suggest running nm LK for a lum to make smoke, and skip hell countess entirely. I'm a big hell countess fan but the archers are scary enough that I would prefer to just skip it if I were you. Should be something like 150-200 nm LK runs on avg per lum. Nice progress and good luck! And I would definitely run nm cows for a spirit base as well. But idk how overly conservative that is

Thanks for doing the math! Cows on a hammerdin is pretty fun, so maybe my run for now can be P3 baal -> P7 cows for xp and a base

I don't think you can put Lawbringer on an A2 merc, but it would be interesting to try an A5 merc with a big 2H Lawbringer. Maybe I'll try that in AT later on for some S/U farming
Do you have any tricks for finding a spirit base in Hell? I have a map I don’t want to give up. (Sword or shield)
Also you mentioned you did a untwinked hammerdin. When did you start LK? And since your not teleporting did you only do one camp fire (2 chests) per run?
Regarding making the Vigor bow would it actually make a difference? Even if it stacks its 10 levels, that would do the same as one small charm but requires me to give up my shield/weapon running around a hell area on P7!
@Dazliare p3, p5, and p7 happen to not be THAT different in this particular case (nm LK for lum or lem). If you're concerned, I would do p3 and just plan to do some extra runs.
I might do something like baal/eldritch to lvl 72+, roll acceptable LK map, check racks to make sure they aren't dropping pally shields during this time, go to nm cows till spirit sword and shield base (maybe lum/lem will drop during this), then do a couple hundred nm lk runs for lum for smoke. If you happen on a lem, treachery for merc is always nice, but i would spend it on lawbringer for a5 merc. Hes so nice in hc.
EDIT: you're right, nm cows should give fine exp, and i dont THINK will be too dangerous (I am NOT a HC guy, so take my advice with that grain of salt). So I might even skip baal/eldritch in the sentence above and just get your lvls at cows.
@ddknoll[ spirit base in hell is just doing wherever there is some monster density. Not nearly as nice as nm cows though, but if you cant give up your current map, then no worries, they will drop eventually. Chaos and pits are always good choices for bases, but anywhere works. My hammerdin was only untwinked till I beat hell baal, so the only LK i did was nightmare Lk for a lum for smoke. I don't know why you would settle for 1 campfire whether running or teleporting though. 2 is always better by a lot. Are you HC? If so i might not use harmony because you lose max block. If you are SC, then ofc why not use it? And i think its +30frw, so thats a lot more than a small charm Why cant you reroll your current map? If you're going to do more than like a couple hundred LK runs you should definitely roll a decent map for it.

@ddknoll ah sorry i was completely overlooking the fact you are a pally with native vigor. Yeah i would not use harmony bow (the aura does not stack), so agreed completely. Haha yeah babyhell plays a lot. But you should be able to get <45s 6chest LK runs pretty easily, and when you get bored you can always do some CS or pits runs on whatever map you happen to have (or mephisto runs if the map happens to be ok for that). But yeah I'd probably make LK the priority as soon as you get there in hell. Can always do random other runs without rerolling your map when too bored of LK.

GL on LK runs, it can be very fast or not at all...But we all know what's targeted: Vex Sur Sur Ohm Ist Mal Sur Sur Sur Sur and Lo or Ohm Ohm for merc!
I had the insane idea of finishing MFO by leveling my UT99er sorc from 93 to 94 on p3 Pindle. Only after I reached like 13% of that goal did I check again and noticed that it would take me around 14 hours to finish that...
It was still a good decision since it prompted me to make my Infinity which rolled near-perfect:

Matriarch Quinta and Kasim the Might Desert Merc, Lvl 98 (pic) Quinta was my entry in 2019 Summer MFO, moving from 97.25 to 98 during those 10 days, as summarized here.
The Mang’s was great, bringing me to grail -1 overall, and some solid progress on eth grail, and some useful finds to boot! Most notable were the Mara’s and Nature’s Peace, as well as some ML rare rings that give more flexibility to gear.
A Mal and Pul rune allowed her to cube an Ist, which became Delirium, along with a lower defense Treachery. The facet in her Griffon’s was only 3/4, so we also dusted off the 2 Jahs and got some CBF from her headgear for added flexibility with the rings:
The real issue is needing Nature’s Peace and wanting some ML, so Raven Frost is getting squeezed out.
I’ve done about 3M of runs with different set ups (without having to reroll maps due to Baal map having good Nihl map, but not shrines, so we will have to reroll when the time comes to settle in). With LI Nihl rolls, I think TStroke will win out over Titan’s, even with more frequent repairs needed. That also allows Mara’s due to 15 IAS on TStroke, which gets her close to 3000 life due to charm flexibility.
Fire is maxed, and poison is too with Nature’s Peace, with cold and lightning ~30. Lightning may need a slight bump due to bolts from lightning enchanted Nihl and the need to CS him. There is still some fiddling to do, but I think this will be doable with only 2 skillers and no facet shield. I will likely post something this weekend with gear options and seek some advice
Trina hit level 97 this weekend during the MFO. My findings are listed here. I had one death without corpse recovery. I still don't have a recovery kit made and I really need to get on that! A quick check shows I do have the runes for HoTo, so that's a plus.
As mentioned above, I'm not sure if I'll stay with Baal after I hit 98 or if I'll switch to Nihl. I didn't really find myself bored during the MFO runs, which was a surprise given how I DID get slightly burned out during the RFL runs.
One huge upgrade from the MFO was Griffon's Eye. It rolled -16%/+15%, so not super great, but I don't see myself holding a socket quest waiting for a better one to come along. I burned my first socket quest on the Harly I wore during the MFO, and the only other item I will probably end up socketing would be Andy's for the merc (which I also found during the MFO), though I am still waiting to find a RJoF. I guess a Ral will work in the meantime.
I'm starting to include my grail numbers in the table, seeing as how Trina is now sitting at -71 and likely to find quite a few more missing items before all is said and done with.
Before I punch holes in my new toys (and reroll another Baal map because of it) and go wild, I'll give Trina a week or so break while I get a Pally up and running so that when I get tired of Baal I can instead get tired of LK runs.

So what i did since last update was doin pits, joined that mfo and just ran p7 pits and it was pretty much fun, with really cool drops, not that many GG tc87 items but nice and usuful stuff
Currently im a little bit before 95 and i hav the the infi now, so all i need to go summoner baalruns now is 1 more Ber for beast. Im not sure, prolly i just stay in pits for some more time, since i got a good amount of hrs druing mfo, why not stay there a bit longer for another one and exp isnt bad as well.

The shako drops was pretty funny (gonna link vid below), there dropped a blue or rare one in lvl 2 and i said like damn why not unique, then i opend the chest in pit lvl 2 and unique shako dropped^^
The amulet will be used when im summoner i guess, together with 1 fc ring i wouldnt need fcr gloves anymore then.
And together with the Sur i found a day or two before Mfo i had all runes for infi, sadly i didnt hav any eth elite base for it, somewhen i got a 4 sox CV which was fine for me and it turned into a max ed (325%)infi which is very nice. So merc has cool runewords now, perf roll on low ebugged dusk (max life/res) and max ed infi cv.
. So I rerolled my Spirit Monarch in hopes for a 35% fcr one, which would allow me to reach the 105% fcr breakpoint with only 3 pieces of gear: HotO, SotVM and Spirit. I only had ingredients to do this 4 time, but TooMuchEnergy's luck once again continued, and I got this one at the fourth try:
