Who will be first to use this??
At level 12,
this is O_Rourke.
The first ethereal item I found
wasn't very useful, but Corpsefire dropped
this to make up for it. First rare to drop was something I could wear, yay!
The first 10 levels were slow going. I didn't buy a rogue at level 8, nor did I find any ethereal items I could wear* (for any slot), so save for a rare buckler, I was naked, alone and punching foul, sticky things all the way until I had killed Blood Raven.
Like LordMay, I decided full-clears at /p8 to be worthwhile-- at least until I fill all my equip slots. Lemme tell ya, fighting Coldcrow and her croneys with naught but Howl and your fists (I _did_ have some elemental damage small charms by this point, so it wasn't _that_ bad) was a challenge I hadn't seen in DiabloII for a while. Had to TP out a few times for more potions, but I was successful. The Cave dropped a lovely ethereal cap, which was a relief... O_Rourke would stop complaining about the deletorious effect of wind-chill factor on bald men's heads...
Blood Raven wasn't particularly difficult in comparison. Howl took care of her minions, and the rest was just potion popping and time.
With my rogue by my side, things sped up quite a bit, but O_Rourke was feeling conflicted about his role in the adventure. Sure he was being terribly manly, punching everything to death, but now this rogue had joined up and was quickly doing 3 times his damage. He was feeling a bit puny, and depressed.
Fortunately, whilst combing the Stony Field for its waypoint, a rare, ethereal, throwing weapon dropped (I was beginning to think I might need to punch all the way up to Andariel)!

I told O_Rourke that he's not allowed to throw them, though. He needs to conserve their quantity.
Still mostly naked, and prepping to take find Cain... good luck everybody!
*I did find an ethereal scepter early on that I would have loved to have used, but didn't get any answer about whether I could use it.
