This is very true, my strafe is like lvl 5 now, and I'm wishing my obsession was energy so I could use it more than 5 times before I need a pot. My damage is acceptable, I'm sure I'd be a slaughtering machine on p1, but my merc helps out a lot.

I think it's just us having too much time. It took me as long as you to clear the Black Marsh and reach the Outer Cloister WP, because I was checking every corner for monsters, chests and so on. I think I would have needed much longer if it wasn't for my merc, who was equipped with a Hunter's Bow that did also do cold damage. If I look back, I don't know if my time was well spent, since I only reached Level 20 in Act I although I killed EVERY monster in p8...
Good luck with the monastery and Andy! I think you will complete it much faster than the Black Marsh/Tamoe Highland thing...and what's good for you: Andy simply hates fire and with Blaze it should almost be easier to kill her as with Fire Wall, since she's moving a lot, esp. after you.

Currently I'm thinking about what to take as my second obsession: I want to have FO as a second attack spell, but in this tournament I'll never complete the obsession (104 skillpoints needed (i.e. level 93) in total for FW and FO maxed with maxed synergies). So I think about taking Static Field or Teleport as my second skill, but that means I cannot use FO until I reach Level 61 (Static Field)/62(Teleport)...I don't know if that will be too late, esp. since the time saving with FO in NM is enormous. I think with Level 61 I might still be in NM, though, right?

I think it should be maxed with smite and be allowed to be triggered. Holy shield is what makes smite good...

Smite has no synergies. I use a download from the Arreat Info pool (I forget the actual name of the link) as my source of official synergies. I hope everyone is aware of official synergies. The only addition is that the elemental mastery skills for the sorceress are synergies for their respective elemental damage spells.

First, thanks for the good wishes and the reply, Grisu! I also wish you well, of course. I'm also wondering what to do with my second obsession, if I get that far. I'm not thinking so much about being able to finish the second skill, even though it means not getting the points for it ... I'm thinking about the idea of being able to have a decent offense with it as soon as possible to help me survive. If you wait until L61 or 62 to get your L1 FO, that's a very different way of thinking from mine. But of course either Static Field or Teleport would be quite useful. For you, depending on your playstyle, I could see either one working extremely well ... if you choose Teleport, you'll only have a strong fire offense, but you'll be able to get out of the way and position yourself well, while with a strong Static, I imagine your merc will be your killing machine.

I'm not sure how close to Hell you/we will be at L61/62 so I'm very interested to see an answer or see where other characters are at that level. I think it would help enormously with the planning to know that.

LiliVon is using her bow less and less, practicing Blaze. She loves narrow passageways with a cleared area behind them, as she can zig-zag herself a wall of fire through which her pursuers must run. This is much easier than the terrain of open spaces, where her foes veer away from her Blaze path (usually to swarm her merc) and then she has to encircle them with fire and try to lure them. She's definitely looking forward to the Monastery and dreading the A2 deserts.

She had no NDEs, even during a bit of a hairball in the second level of the Pit where everyone was awaiting her arrival in one big mass just past the foyer. (She is NOT looking forward to the stair traps of the Kurast Temples.) Liberal use of minor rejuves and a retreat up the stairs to refill the belt kept both LiliVon and Kyle in good health.

The Countess left her a tip at lunch: an Eth, a chipped emerald, and a flawed emerald. She hopes that her dinner with Andy will be more profitable. The gem mining has been going well, however. She has tapped a rich vein of diamonds, and an assortment of the rest; although she wishes to mine more of those gorgeous fiery rubies, she does have a few of them in her stash.

(Shopped magic fire-res boots and sash, and hard leather armor for both herself and the merc.) She found Kyle a smart little number over at Gheed's, another Crimson of Self-Repair (but it's a leather cap) so they're both slaying in style now. Her nice rare gloves have been swapped for a similar pair of rare gloves, adding her first bit of poison res in anticipation of her dinner with Andy. She's got excellent fire res, naturally, being so obsessed with it. In other shopping news, Akara is always out of stock when she asks for a 2-socketed staff with interesting enough plusses that include fire. LiliVon is looking forward to exciting Lut Gholein where Drognan is rumored to be much better supplied.

TrubbaNot, it took me almost as long as you to get past the first part of Act I. The issue is that no one at that point has good equipment or their killing skill maxed so the going is always slow. However, once you start adding points to your skills things will start to speed up. I think Act II took me as long as trek to the Outer Cloister, and Act III about the same (if not faster). Don't worry, you'll catch up to the rest of us soon enough.

About choosing skills, I don't believe it's the best idea to pick skills you can finish just for the points. You'll get more points by creating a Hell viable character than just the 10 points from a completed obsession. Think long term if you intend to try and win the tournament.

With my lf/pj zon i made a cold damage fercious partizan first time, would have been great on this char...

Personally I've not been trying to do full clears, I only get what it takes to find the WPs and solve the quests. It's not my fault the WPs are always in the last place I look. That said I've started doing full clears (on purpose) for all of Act V. Why? Well I've realized that all of my equipment is currently Normal, and therefore I have to get rid of all of it if I get past Baal. So I've been on the lookout for Exceptional replacements. Found a one or two so far but going to be fairly naked if my luck, or lack thereof, continues. This is of course why I also haven't made any runewords, I'd hate to have to get rid of them after normal since they wouldn't be in Exceptional items.

Nil just fell, no problems there. With 600+ life the corpse explosion doesn't hurt so much. Been doing everything since the beginning at /p8 but thinking of dropping it to /p1 just for the ancients as there's no point in going in at a higher level.

Incr Max Dur 14%; Socketed (3: flawless emerald, flawless diamond, topaz)

The infernal cranium and the blood crescent add 25 to all resist, and with my gemmed large shield, Delta has nearly full resistances. She is using that Blood Crescent scimitar even though it does only 3-10 damage and negates both of her obsession skills (Jab and Strafe). When she goes up against a crowd of monsters, she switches to a gemmed long bow and uses Strafe (level 5). I guess Jab (maxed out) is not going to be much use unless she finds a really nice spear or javelin. Then there is the problem of actually using a good weapon {her current str and dex are both about 36!}.

You might think that this is a strange build. Of course it is, but it gets my 20 points for the obsession skills fairly early (Act 5 normal) and the idea is to finally develop the Valkyrie and then watch as my Act 3 merc and the Valk kill everything. Of course, first I have to live long enough to let that happen. With Vitality as the attribute obsession, that could happen.

As a result I only completed to quests so far in act V. Being only 15 skillpoints away from maxing my first obsession, I'm also starting to wonder what the second one will be, I'm quite sure it will be a curse, but don't yet know which one. The obvious choice is of course amplify damage, but decrepify could be better considering that I won't have access to any other curse. How many monsters will remain physical immune if I use decrepify instead of amplify damage?

Oh, and a question on the rules, one that I think was asked before, but I'm too lazy to check. With regards to jewelry in nightmare and hell, of course it cannot be exceptional/elite, does it have to be set/unique?

There is no requirement on jewelry except that it contains reference to one of your obsessions.

DeltaO has defeated Mephisto on P8 without losing the Act 3 cold merc. The deed was done without using either of her first two skills (Jab and Strafe); just that Blood Crescent scimitar and a lot of patience/potions.

Mephisto dropped an Isenhart's Case to go with the Isenhart's Horns that were found earlier. That means that the merc will wear both of them to get the +8 resist all on the Helm.

Strafe is now at level 10 and it works great on crowds. That means 8 more levels before DeltaO can begin developing her Valkyrie. It seems like a long way off. It is, because it requires her to go through Diablo with just that merc.

Her current strength is 38 and her dexterity is 40. She can use a couple things, but not many. This is as high as I have ever gotten by the end of Act 3 without rerunning any areas. She achieved that just before the Mephisto battle, so there is almost no white bar progressing toward the next level.
