1.13 Hydra Sorc Viable?

I've been reading about a lot of the popular sorc builds and I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to test out a hydra (pure fire) sorc in Hell difficulty. I'm probably gonna test it out myself as well, but I'd like to hear some imput.

As a side note, anyone found that high runes are dropping significantly more? The patch notes say that high runes drop rate will increase, but I'm wondering if we will even notice.

I dunno if its that great.

The problem is that fire immunes are just too common. What the heck will she do in A1 hell with the devilkin and fire-immune rogues? Let the merc kill everything? :hammerhead:

You'd have to go dual tree, in which case you won't be able to boost hydra alot.

Of course, the cheats are enabled on the PTR, so why not just try it out?

It's always been viable, except now it might be a bit better. :p Judging by the numbers, I don't think it's going to be that big of a difference compared to what it was before.

High runes are dropping 2x to 3x more frequently, or so I'm told.

it is very viable indeed
hydra + fireballs is a deadly combo, make sure to use static everywhere and equip your merc with good stuff

i've also done a lightning/hydra that works wonders

Lightning takes too many points in synergies on its own to be viable

CL is the obvious choice, but those are both timered skills so you couldnt spam them at the same time, limiting the effectiveness of a CL/Hydra sorc

I'm trying a hydra sorc right now. So far, the reduction in delay seems good, but overall it doesn't seem really that much better. Although I'll need to get to the higher difficulties to tell for sure, I think that this won't change the standard builds too much.

Firewall sorc does seem like a good option though, just noticed the synergies. I'll have to give it a shot.

I'm using a hydra orber atm, not too shabby.

actually, the reduced timer doesn't change a thing..you could always have 5 hydras out at a time...hoping the increased firing speed will be different though

it is fasrter, but if to put difference, its like having 10% faster run walk on your toon, and compare with 0%, thats your speed difference ( on eye at any rate. )

Don't go pure fire with hydra. Use nova and a holy freeze merc, It's probably a good idea probably to be a mild spell swordwith this character. That being said bosses in multiplayer gmes will be tough. The problem with hydra, isn't that it isn't good, its that it doesn't make fireball good. While this character won't be potent at doing crazy runs, it can be a potent charater to play in single player and with a party. If you want to be runner, then don't play it. If you want to have a good charcter to just play through the game with, then hydra is excellent.

I don't know if it works but I'm definitely going to try. And a Firewall sorc as well.

Orb has always been the best to combine with any fire skill.

hydra not as fun as i expected at first... well.. not sunce normal mephie at any rate, takes too long to kill something -,-'

Is the hydra missile speed slower or faster? in the patch notes it says increased, so what is that quote by RTB?

It's funny because their patch notes read "-Hydra- Increased base speed of Hydra projectile." Yet according to RTB who has looked into the game files, the speed has actually decreased by 14.3%. Yes, instead of buffing speed, the awesome staff at Blizzard actually slowed down Hydra projectile speed.

It's also hilarious because a lot of people who have NEVER touched Hydra once in their life before are now saying stuff like "Omg the projectile is so fast now! It's become extremely viable! Hallelujah!"
