I know their used to be some goofy builds based off this shield, but will 1.13's changes to hydra create a new viable paladin class?

Please post other gear that might coordinate well with Dragonscale.

Re: 1.13 Dragonscale

Hmm trang oul's set comes to mind. With the gloves you get 20% faster cast rate. Add the belt to that and you get +18 fireball as a secondary attack and cannot be frozen (leaving your rings to be sojs or something, no need for ravens). You might want to invest heavily on +all skills gear to make the hydra any good. Also, you probably want conviction as your main aura. I'd go with:

Helm: Harlequin's Crest (5% dmg fire facet)
Ammy: Mara's Kaleidoscope
Armor: Upgraded Skin of the Vipermagi (FCR, Resists) or 15% fire skill damage Ormus' Robes (5% damage fire facet)
Weapon: Heart of the Oak Flail
Shield: Dragonscale (duh, socket with a 5% damage fire facet)
Glove: Trang Oul's
Belt: Trang Oul's (these two will give you +18 fireball, 20%fcr and cannot be frozen)
Rings: Stone of Jordan x2
Boots: idk really... waterwalks? Sandstorm Treks? War travellers?

You'll get Hydra at skill level 21 (22 if you consider battle command from a call to arms runeword) which should give you around 200+ fire damage per hydra shot (i'm not taking into account that +18 fireball as I'm not sure it counts towards your synergies). Kinda pathetic isnt it? Well at least conviction aura makes up for that a little by reducing enemie's resists by 150% at slvl 25 (which you should have no problems to acheive). Not sure if that build would be hell viable tho. Gl with it!

edit: alternatively, if you're willing to give up fireballs entirely, you can go with magefist gloves (+1 to fire skills, fcr) and Arachnid Mesh belt (+1 all skills, fcr) and switch the armor to Chains of Honor (netting yet another +1 all skills). not sure if it would boost damage by a lot, but you'd be giving up the fireballs.
