1.11 Release Notes

I, too, feel as though we SPers have been given the royal shaft by Bliz, but I'm not going to get my panties in a twist about it. As soon as I heard the new portal was unopenable on SP, my general like of Bliz turned into more of a general dislike. Plus I hate the fact that they've left these keys in SP just to rub the possibilities of "What Could Be If U Were A Cattle.Netter" in our faces. At first, I was so angry...

But... now I don't care. If they have the hutzpa to say "Forget you!, SP community!", then I can say the same thing right back to them. IMO, I think this patch was designed to be more of a promotional tool than anything else, since the only bugs that were fixed were loopholes and the FE bug, one that just about EVERY D2 player has complained about (except me; I've never even experienced it, and I just Patted a barb).

But I think back to the time before 1.10 came out... it seemed like every D2er was on the edge of their seat waiting for its release, and many of us were trying to get as much news as we could in the months before the release. And for this new patch, it seemed like no one knew it was being created until a week ago! I don't think we should have expected much from it at all.

Yes, the patch did add a few new bosses to tackle, adding challenge to an already challenging game... but do you really want a +6 skill charm that badly?? It'd be nice to fool around with for a while, but I'd call it an item that makes whatever build you've got to be uber-cheesy and -cheap. By the time you're strong enough to get the item, you're already strong enough to take on the entire game. And personally, I think it's fitting that cattle.netters should be the only ones who can find and use an item that almost seems like cheating; it's befitting that those dupers/PKers/haxors be scrambling for an item that's just as cheesy and "l33t" and they are.

After having said all that, I'm probably going to get the patch in a week or two after all the new bugs/fixes have been discovered. And I might even mod my game to add all the new uber bosses, just to experience the challenge and see if any of my characters can stand up to them, but there's no way I'm going to keep my game that way. In the end, I do thank Bliz for making updates to a game that's so old and has taken so many hours of my life away.

The one thing that irks me the most though is that it seems like SPers are more dedicated to the purest forms of D2, where we dupe less, we hack less, we treat one another with respect and love (except for Durf!)... and they CHOOSE to disallow content for SP. It's like you're in love with this girl, and you do everything you can to impress her, comfort her, shower her with gifts, make her dinner every night... and then she tells you you're not good enough for her, and she goes and makes out with your dumber, uglier, cheating roommate...

edit: and it's not even like the guy's got more money or anything...

Code:
Halt

Expression: Unreasonable internal error 6fd9d69e

If that means anything to anyone, also to note the IG is still there in the next game.

Also the new CD-check is not fooled by mounted iso's in virtual drives.

I guess this is the actual goal of this patch...getting people who haven't purchased the game in the past to pick up a copy now, as not to loose their bnet accounts =)

That quote is not quite true. I was one of those that used the No CD crack and kept the CD in the case. When I patched, I got the same error as everyone else, but I still didnt want to use the CD, so here was my solution:

Use Alcohol 120% to rip an image of the D2 LoD CD and use Daemon Tools to mount it as a Virtual CD. Make sure your registry entries for DiabloIICD (Just run a search in regedit for that exact value "DiabloIICD") are pointing to the right drive letter and it will run 1.11 just fine.

Alcohol 120% is the best program that I have come across for ripping an image in true 1:1 fashion. As long as you own the actual CD of the program, it is perfectly legal to do this. And it saves the CD from getting damaged.

Hope this helps others with the No CD crack issue. Cheers!

Someone should send replies like ElmoCC's to Blizzard. His last paragraph really hit the nail on the head for me.

Back before 1.09 came out, a thread in the BNet forums suggested that Single Players be allowed to simulate the multiplayer monster hit point and XP settings. And when 1.09 came out a while later, a feature which we now all know as the 'Players X' came out. Ladder-only items were also made available to SP, but not in the non-Ladder Realms. I don't think Blizzard necessarily neglects the Single Player. It's just that we're low in the totem pole of priorities for them right now.

Anyway, I wanted to ask: was the Inferno/Arctic Blast/Wake of Inferno bug fixed in 1.11?

Meh, I won't say where or who but the no-cd check was cracked few hours after the 1.11 launchas they do with every game. It was a decent try by blizzard but they got owned.

we should keep in mind that none of the people responsible for the creation of d2 are at blizz anymore. this patch may be giving us a glimpse of some changes that are going on internally at blizzard and why the blizzard north team left.

I found this post an interesting read. Doesn't seem like that final apocalyptic battle would be too doable for a lone SP fighter or mage.

Man...that does sound like a lot of fun. The first real challenge any of us would probably have in PVM for quite some time.

Bring it on. :D At least bring on the mod, so we can try. I'm through playing vanilla. Nobody plays vanilla on battle.net, where I would, so I'm not going to do it here, where I can't.

That's the beauty of it. A final challenge, something to use all those great items on. A reason for me to go back to 1.07 and dig around more for some max damage charms... or try to get that second beta BK ring.

They did it with 2 (IMO) poorly suited characters. I think one could do it with no problem.

Take one Pally. Add Smite. Add any source of Life Tap (Drac's or Exile). Smite is unblockable and always hits. With Life Tap, pretty much nothing but IM will kill you. And nothing in this area can cast it from what I hear.

Now add any item with PMH. I might pick Blackhorn's, just cause the slow never hurts. Regen -> solved.

Now pile on CB. Ideally a Stormlash, since CTC Static will make things go even quicker.

According to later posts in that thread, PMH does nothing against these beasts. Poison damage hardly turns them green, either.

Well, even if PMH doesn't work I'd say gohan's char is probably better suited to the task than what they had. Until the life tap from dracul's triggers a charge from marrowwalks could help. Lasts for 45 seconds or so.

I know everyone has been paying careful attention to the new quests and items, but I'm wondering if there is a final verdict on:

1) the Fend bug,
2) the Charge bug,
3) the Leap bug,
4) any changes to the 1.10 drop rates, and
5) the effect of mercenary XPing?

As far as who can or cannot beat those bosses, I remember seeing a thread about beating Überdiablo in 1.10 that spoke of having an Avenger around. I imagine the same trick will work now: an Avenger, maybe a barb for the warcries, and then all manners of overpowered Sorceresses.

I'm going to add a couple to that list:

1) the Fend bug,
2) the Charge bug,
3) the Leap bug,
4) any changes to the 1.10 drop rates, and
5) the effect of mercenary XPing?
6) the Andy quest drop bug
7) Peace ctc Valk: Is is bugged on characters as well?

Mercenaries definetly gain exp faster now. Today I bought a lvl 13 merc when I was lvl 20, and by the time I was lvl 24 he was caught up to me. I'm thinking that's a bit faster than he would usual level up.

In regards to the Uberbosses...all three spawn at once in Tristram, supposedly; I can't imagine any single player can take on all three at the same time...is this correct? Someone mentioned that Meph spawns with a high level Conviction aura...nice.

Teamwise, you need a little of everything, but I think ideally it would be:

1 barb, for BO, BC, Shout
1 Pally for Sanctuary (to help offset Mephs Conviction)
1 Necro for Amp (maxed, synergized PN + conviction=PMH?)
2-3 Sorcs/zons/druids/sins for ranged attacks, plus tanks (a sorc with large radius SF would be excellent as well)

Mercs would all be Act II, but one needs the runeword that adds the conviction aura, perhaps one with a fanaticism aura, if that is attainable.

Man...a Valk and Grizzly with BO, Oak Sage would have some serious life.
