1.09 MA Sin advice needed

So I'm playing my first 'Sin, and I'm up to level 51. So far I've only maxed Claw Mastery and Tiger Strike, put 5 points in Burst of Speed, one point in Shadow Master, and the rest in the prereqs for those skills. I've been dual-clawing thus far and I'm thinking it might be more effective if I go to claw/shield instead. I don't actually use a 'regular' attack as I have Tiger Strike on left-click and (ATM) Dragon Claw (level 1) on right-click so my second claw only gets used once in a while when I use Dragon Claw, and even then it doesn't do any charge-up damage or anything. That being said, once I get to Hell (A2 NM right now) I'm going to start wanting more blocking, but if I'm going to switch over to claw/shield I won't waste points in Claw Block and instead I'll put it into a finisher move.

So what would you guys suggest to be the most effective? Stick with claw/claw and boost Weapon Block and use Dragon Claw as a finisher, or switch to claw/shield and use one of the kick finishers (either Dragon Tail or Dragon Flight)? Bear in mind this is untwinked 1.09, so no synergies.

Thanks!

I'm not an assassin expert (especially 1.09) but I think you should stick with Dragon Claw and use +skills to boost weapon block (due to diminishing returns). After that, you're gonna need something to deal with PIs in Hell, so I'd either max a trap or Pheonix strike.

Ahhh...should have waited longer for responses.

Thanks for the advice, although yesterday I ended up going with a claw/shield and Dragon Flight instead. Extra resists from shields are always nice, finding a claw worth a toss is hard enough, much less finding TWO good ones (that, and the fact that the second one almost never gets use anyway). I miss not being able to leech from the claws with my kick, as well as not being able to spam the finisher, but being able to teleport and insta-hit the enemy as well as bringing my SM and merc to the spot in an instant is awesome, so I'm comfortable enough with my choice, at least for now.

Thanks for the reply anyway, though. After a couple days with no responses I figured that 1.09 was mostly forgotten and I know I'm one of the only few people here who still plays 1.09. :wink3:

No matter - I'm sure you'll do fine anyhow. Just do bear in mind that you'll need a way to deal with PIs in Hell. If I remember rightly they are a lot more common in 1.09 than later versions due to the global 50% physical resist in Hell.

Yeah, PIs are a bear. My WW Druid had a bad time with them, but for the most part I usually avoid/park them or find some elemental weapon. Also the reason I play Hell on P1.

dont most 1.09 sins go max tiger, claw mast, BOS and a finisher plus 1 in death sentry. I can remember my friends sin mowing through hell cows and only needing to kill a few cows to start the death sentrys killing. Im in fact working on a ww sin for 1.11 my skills will be max venom, claw mast, Bos and claw block. Im hoping to find a nice cruel claw and a claw with + to venom or death sentry/shadowmaster/dragonflight o yeh and find or cube a ohm lol

If you want advice on pure melee' assassins, PM a guy called CelciusXII. He's one of my buddies, and I've seen him take an untwinked assassin through 1.10 and 1.11 with only the 'physical' skills. He also did this with no crushing blow until he was level 60 or so. He basically relied on venom, and a very fast dragon claw to kill things. Worked surprisingly well, actually. I'll try and get hold of him.

Heh, well I guess I'll be fine, then, if it can be done that easily (albeit by someone better at the game than I). My 'sin's now at 57 and just entered A4 NM and so far so good. Can't imagine trying to take on Hell Ancients without at least a boost in equipment, though. But that's what NM Meph is for.
