1.07 News, Info and Gossip

No, yes, and yes. What I'm getting at is, he has an Eaglehorn in 1.07 (which cannot drop). This gives us a two possibilities:
1) He is playing single player and used a hack or editor
2) There is a way to obtain one

If you notice the bow has the 1.07 requirements. However, the patch which fixed the TC (1.48), also changed the requirements. Now these screenshots are really old, and appear to have been taken during the battle net beta test. But for speculation purposes, let's just assume #2 is the case.

Since items over TC66 cannot drop under the regular system, these are the only ways of obtaining them:
- Racks: could it be possible racks in overlooked locations can drop bows under rare circumstances?
- Gambling: you can't gamble uniques/sets according to Blizzard. Maybe it's bugged though?
- Vendors: no chance here
- Cube recipes: could there be recipes that generate unique/set items the same way as the resistance recipes?
- Quest rewards: could Anya be bugged to (very rarely) give unique items?

I looked into the recipes again, and there appears to be two more bugged ones:
1 axe + 1 dagger -> throwing axe
1 spear + 1 arrow quiver -> javelins
Both of these recipes are supposed to generate regular quality, but can occasionally generate magic/rare. So I've been speculating lately if another recipe is bugged in a similar fashion. For example, what if 3pgems+magic item occasionally created a unique? If you rolled a Hydra Bow, and it eventually came out a Windforce? All of this is far out, but I think it is at least worth looking into.

re racks: in newer versions racks can rarely drop things they aren't supposed to, such as bows and throwing potions. There was an entire thread on this that I bring up every time I can because some users put in some effort to replicate these results. It is much easier to see these results in low lvl areas like tower cellar in normal.

I always forget the user's name but I found it on google

https://www.purediablo.com/forums/threads/item-generation-from-racks.788376/

Maybe if you look at the code for generating rack drops you can find something interesting? Is there a key difference b/w 1.07, 1.08, 1.09 and 1.10+?

Other than stability of racks, of course.

Also, can those two recipes produce uniques? Do they generate 'normal' javlin/throwing axe or can they also do exceptional, etc.?

The recipes only generate normal, however they may produce failed set/unique since those qualities don't exist for the base.

I remember reading about the racking quirks in newer patches, lower level areas can give bows and throwing potions. What I was thinking though, is maybe it is based on the actual area instead of the alvl. Like what if, racks in the Tower Cellar can generate bows, but racks later on cannot? What if it's the actual location that determines if bows can drop, and not the alvl as we wanted to believe?

Whatever this is, I want to be a part of solving it. Tell me what you need me to do and I'll do it. Literally spent the last twenty minutes fantasizing about a good mystery.

iirc @krischan or someone said they got something in LK that normally isn't allowed as well.

I don't have 1.07 installed at the moment but I could certainly try out this weekend the re-roll item recipes to see if they can produce set/uniques. Shouldn't take long if I change the recipe to require the weapon only and maybe change input and output from 1 item to 3 items and try it on sabres which can roll both set and unique.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to cube a unique or set weapon except javelins or throwing axes (you can use any javelin or throwing axes, but the output will be "Javelin" or "Throwing Axe".

There is a parameter in the cube formulas labeled 'pmod1a/b' which you can use to set the output's item rarity.

In the case of prism amulet and resistance ring recipes, there is not assigned a rarity to the outputs item, thus making the game roll according to the base chance (30/125/200/1000 or whatever it was). The same case is for the javelin and throwing axe recipe.

For the savage bardiche recipe for instnace, pmod1a is set to 'mag' and for the 6 pskull rare item re-roll it is set to 'rar'. I am fairly sure that this is just an oversight by Blizzard on the amulet and ring recipes and they simply forgot to assign a proper value before release.

Unfortunately, the 3x pgems + 1 magic item has pmod1a set to 'mag' as well, thus not making it roll anything but magic items.

I still find that picture very weird though. Perhaps the LOD beta didn't have pmod1a set to 'mag' for the recipe? But the chance for someone to re-roll crusader bows and actually get an Eagle Horn is just insane, especially during the beta as well. Judging by the way he comments the bow, perhaps he is some sort of dataminer? Considering it says "Datadisk" and his header on his site is "Here's some information about the Expansion Set: Lord of Destruction. Complete information on all skillies, items, NPCs, etc. are being prepared in the upcoming new version of these sites. This is just such a small appetizer to keep you waiting!".

I have asked the question about Anya before (see https://www.purediablo.com/forums/t...arded-an-unique-or-set-item-from-anya.747598/), but no one gave me any factual answers, just guesses for whatever reason.

Edit:
His site is very interesting, considering the way he comments on everything. This cannot be the beta right, because that was battle.net server only and he would not be able to spawn an Eagle Horn in any illegitimate way?

It looks like he has gotten access to the retail 1.07 game early or something, but I am not sure how or why. Even though he only had the data (and I believe there is a lot of LOD data on the Diablo 2 classic disc/installation they were just unused at that point) he would still require the client to actually show us these screenshots.

And unless he was able to create some kind of hero editor for LOD before it even came out (very doubtful as there were no documentation of the LOD save game format or research done at that point) he must have made these items spawnable by modding the game. Although possible, I find it all very unlikely.

Very interesting..

Wizard spike was only 95 res in 1.07 and not 1.08 right? Either way, it suggests that he can play multiplayer and I doubt it's TCP/IP. Meaning this could be the beta right? I am confused, maybe it is 1.08 after all?

That's what I'm getting at. He is clearly playing 1.07, and the Wizzy shot implies he was playing online during the beta test. Many of those shots he is using classic uniques, which makes sense because all characters were copied during the beta test.

Regarding the recipes, while that is true the output quality is only broken if left blank, I thought it might be possible that it could get overwitten very rarely. 3pgems always gives a magic item, but what if it could still bug and give a unique item 1:10000?

How forbidden is using automation to solve these mysteries? I'd imagine you could make a virtual machine and save the machine state right before you click the cube button to have super fast crafting for one recipe. Idk how the seeding for the rng would work out if its based on how you walk and monsters around you (like racks are)

How did you guys stat your trav barbs? I'm wondering if I should rush another barb since I statted my 52 barb to have 6 shout, 19 bo and 13 bc

1 BC 1 shout. You'll want max BO, find item, mastery and WW and mostly or max find item, with spare points in increased speed + natural resistance imo

This map is a goldmine. This rack drops Balrog Skins but when I want to have the near by armor rack dropping Laqcuarated plates (usually Spiderweb sashes), it turns this one as well.

Heh, maybe I'll rack another one or two..

I have a general newbie question - how do you keep the merc alive if life leech doesn't work? I'm lvl 44 sorc in a3 nm and it's getting extremely tedious to drag and drop potions, not to mention that the portrait doesn't even always activate. Does shift + right click // shift + belt hotkey really not work? Should I just ditch the a2 merc and go with some other hireling, like a5 barb? He seems to at least self heal a bit.

All this for a 1.07 shako!
