1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Some useful information WoRG! 1.08 is a really weird patch. Some items have "maxsockets" but no "hasinv". This prevents Troll Nest from getting any sockets. Some items are reversed. 1.08 is actually a lot more like 1.07 than what is commonly thought.

Just a couple small things off the top of my head:
- Monster immunities aren't colored, and monsters CAN spawn Tri immune. Blizzard fixed it so it only displays two immunities, but doesn't actually limit them to two. Coding is hard...
- MR still gives 75% like in 1.07. And because of the bug mentioned above, it's even worse lol
- Increased blocking still uses the same Classic legacy, BUT all other items will display the % like in newer patches.
- 1.08 is the last patch to use the old D2FOG system. I.e. item boxes and text aren't fine tuned like in 1.09+.
- 1.08 implemented TC90, but due to incomplete monster TC's, some monsters and act bosses still have broken drops.
- Piercing worked with most skills in 1.08. Ever heard of a "Burizza Sorc"? She can use buriza to pierce fire ball/glacial spike. This was added in 1.08 and taken back out in 1.09.
- No global physical resistance for monsters. But they had different stats that were changed again in 1.09.
- Unique monsters drop 2 items in normal/nightmare, and one item in hell. Superuniques ALL drop one item.
- Rejuv's are the most common potion in hell from mobs.

Just looked at the files and indeed, it works in 1.07 as well. I thought it was 1.08 as I remember reading an 08 buriza sorc guide. Buriza is bugged though and only has 1% pierce, so you have to use another item. The highest is 50% pierce from Ichorsting.
Indeed, blizzard fixed it in 1.09. But they added guided arrow to the list.

Isn't it based on the skill itself, though? I don't remember the stats on razortail but it pierces like 10-25% of the time iirc

edit: here it is

Razortail
Sharkskin Belt
Defense: 80
Durability: 8 of 8
Required Strength: 10
Required Level: 32

Yeah many pierce items are broken and only do 1%. Ichorsting does 50% however. Whenever I go back to 1.08 for racking I'm going to build a piercing sorc. Cow level=pwned

I don't think it is 1% though. It procs way more often than that
edit: let us know if it does more than 50%. If it is based on skill level instead it might be 100% for ichorstring.

Ok, I'm doing some testing myself, using stormstrike[10] since I don't have ichorstring.

1) If holding down the spell button, it will keep whatever piercing property it has for that spell spam (will either always pierce* or not at all). So, stopping and recasting and holding the MB down is sufficient if it pierces.
2) I tested this on cows
3) It happens WAY more than 10% of the time. I found a 1.10 skill calc and if that is accurate for 1.07, then it should work 73% of the time in 1.07 if it does indeed give lvl 10. Off of this limited testing that seems reasonable.
4) therefore ichorstring should let you pierce 98% of the time (same skill calc, for lvl 50)**

*It still seems to stop after 3 or 4 enemies. I believe there's normally a cap to how many times it pierces so this doesn't surprise me.
**I'd be curious if the skill lvl stacked.. say razortail + decent bow for an additional 1 pt? I mean, it's probably not worth bothering

edit1: this makes chain lightning sometimes not actually chain between enemies.
edit2: my sorc doesn't know hydra but it'd be pretty cool if you could force some hydra mobs to pierce with firebolts! I'm guessing it doesn't work, though, and that fireball is way better anyway.

Ok I did a test in 1.07 and 1.08. It appears that piercing doesn't seem to work in 1.08, even though it's enabled. In 1.08 it was changed from a level of pierce to %. Whenever I used Ichorsting in 1.07, it would pierce 100% of the time. But with other items like razortail, it would never pierce. In 1.08 it would never pierce. I believe it was bugged to add to cold mastery in 1.08.

Crafted about 80 lower blood recipe weapons today, all CB. Not sure what I was expecting, but I'm kind of disappointed with the results. Actually no, I shouldn't say that, one is actually pretty great. However, it seems impossible to get huge %ED. At least 70 of the 80 I crafted today rolled sub 100% ED, most of these probably only rolled the recipe %ED. Too many prefixes to chose from I suppose.

My reference of comparison is what you can get rolling magic CBs/CSs with the 3 chipped recipe. Since 1.07 Larzuk will put 3 sockets in crafted weapons you end up with the same amount of sockets as the 3 chipped recipe. With this you can get cruel (up to 300% ed) and if you're lucky a decent or even great suffix. I know I rolled several cruels when I played 1.09, but never one with a suffix to speak of. From what I remember the best possible rolls were either a CCBoQ (Cruel Colossus Blade of Quickness, then filling all the sockets with damage - Ohm or ed/max jewels any maybe an Eth rune, since you needed 40 WIAS for last WW bp) or CCSoE (Cruel Colossus Sword of Evisceration, filling the sockets with 3 ias/ed jewels, since you needed 45 WIAS for least WW bp).

Only 2 of my 80 crafts were worth keeping (didn't keep stats of the other ones, since I mostly continued rerolling the same one):
Code:
Bone Song
Colossus Blade
One-Hand Damage: 68 to 230
Two-Hand Damage: 72 to 456
Durability: 34 of 50
Required Dexterity: 65
Required Strength: 188
Required Level: 76
Sword Class - Normal Attack Speed
Item Version: Expansion
Item Level: 57
Fingerprint: 0x6fdf8710
+12 to Life
+327% Enhanced Damage
3% Life stolen per hit
+1 to Combat Skills (Paladin Only)
A little better (~30-40% more ED) than what you can relatively easily get with the 3 chipped recipe. +1 Pala Combat and +12 Life are irrelevant, 3% LL is useful, but not great.

Code:
Glyph Scalpel
Colossus Blade
One-Hand Damage: 69 to 235
Two-Hand Damage: 74 to 466
Durability: 36 of 50
Required Dexterity: 65
Required Strength: 188
Required Level: 76
Sword Class - Very Fast Attack Speed
Item Version: Expansion
Item Level: 57
Fingerprint: 0x1edc0ec8
+20 to Life
+336% Enhanced Damage
2% Life stolen per hit
40% Increased Attack Speed
11% Damage to Demons
+28 to Attack Rating against Demons
equal to the best possible 3 chipped recipe result and then some

4xx% or even 5xx% ED must be damn rare for sure

Hm. Was there any evidence for the cold mastery thing? It was a myth for it to add in 1.07 (I think it's even in repusz's guide). Does cold mastery break immunities in 1.08? If that bug happens, and it break immunities, AND cold mastery is still a low percent like in 1.07 (I think mine is only like 90% or something) it could be pretty useful

I have been hoarding jewels, gems and runes for quite a while, but haven't crafted much, except for blood CBs and blood rings.

How did you guys allocate your supplies?

I farmed the LK chests for supplies. Cows dropped a good supply of jewels as well. You can do HF rush for the mid runes. Cows dropped several runes up to Lem. But that was rare.

@pharphis It's a myth in 1.07 for sure. But the pierce doesn't work right in 1.08. I could have sworn reading a guide about a buriza sorc, where back in 1.08 is made cold spells gg. I'll let you know when I go back for racking.

@Yann, you were a little unlucky to only get 2 good damage rolls on 80 crafts, but not too unlucky...unfortunately, the frequency of +ED affixes is lower in 1.07, as noted in the patch notes for 1.08:
- Increased the chance of enhanced damage affixes on weapons.
- Increased the chance of enhanced attack rating affixes on weapons.

The Greater weapon recipies seem to roll +ED affixes more often, but that may be confirmation bias on my part...

Not really fair to reference the 3 chippie recipe, as it is different in 1.07: it ALWAYS produces a long sword:confused:

Crafting works best with a high-level character, ilvl of crafts is only influenced by clvl (clvl*0.66). I suggest getting to at least clvl 91 before crafting amulets, as this will unlock +3 skilltabs...rings depend on what you want: ilvl42 unlocks potential for +40mf, ilvl45 for Bahamut's (up to +120 mana), ilvl56 for +15 Str/Dex or Rainbow (8-11 rezall), ilvl59 for up to +9mindam...

Lesser Blood gloves and Caster boots are good for lower level characters as the qlvl of the base item is low enuff to unlock better affixes sooner...

Greater Caster gloves can spawn +3 skilltabs for Zons and MA Assassins at ANY ilvl due to their high qlvl, but Greater Blood gloves are just low enuff in qlvl that +3 skilltabs are not automatically unlocked...I have seen +3 skilltab on such gloves rolled by a lvl99 character, however...

If you're looking for bugged lifeleech, I suggest blood gloves and rings... for bugged manaleech, blood amulets.

I really wish any of the helm crafting recipies were enabled in 1.07, as 3 (or even 2) socket crafted headgear would have been AWESOME!

My reasoning here is that I eventually want to stay in 1.09 for a while, so I'm comparing the best way to get a good sword in 1.09 to the best way to get one in 1.07 to transfer to 1.09.

The character I crafted with is level 87 (30 million to lvl 8_8)

My Sorc has found a fast and stable Greater Talons rack, and I think I'll rack a couple of Bartuc's in case I'd find some use for them.

I think this could be a nice opportunity for me to also test 1.10a rolling with them.

Is there anything I should know of? Rolling can be done with a lvl 1 mule, right? Can I continue rolling after one roll and keep rolling it until it has something I'd like to keep? At least X of Quickness is on the wishlist, then, I don't know should I wait until I have found Runic Talons to rack also... let's see.

I'm pretty sure 10a rolling requires Runics to get the interesting affixes.

It is to do with the recipe resetting the ilvl so you need a high qlvl item to make sure t can get the interesting prefixes & suffixes.

Does anyone know exactly what the 1.10a 3x normal or 3x flawless gem recipes do, with regards to ilvl?

Edit: It is still worth running. It is one of the racks I am still looking for.

Edit2: Yes you can do it with a lvl1 mule and yes you can keep re-rolling the item.

1.10a 3x normal = ilvl25, 3x flawless =ilvl30... I seem to recall the normal formula requires a socketed base, while the flawless requires a magic (blue) base. Don't waste your time with Greater Talons, though...they're qlvl50, so with either ilvl25 or ilvl30, you're still only gonna get alvl25 affixes... Runic Talons (qlvl81) will do MUCH better (alvl63)

Also note that with either formula, the claws will be base Tier4 for staffmods, so if they spawn any they will be Tier2(10%), 3(20%), 4(50%), or 5(20%)...no chance for Tier1 or Tier6 Staffmods

Edit: @pharphis, you have 1.07 Bartuc's? I'm still looking for that one...Blackoak Shield, too, which you mentioned in the IFT... how close are you to a 1.07 Grail (recognizing that Windforce & Stormspire are not possible?)

Those ilvls have always confused me. Pretty silly by blizz to make it so that they have the same socket potential and same staffmod potential regardless of recipe used.
