@ThomasJohnsen - I've also got most of those runes from poppables. Everyone runs on p8 don't they?

Players 7 and 8 should be the same. I usually never do popables - I think someone recently took a look a popables in cow level and the chance of something decent was so low that it wasn't worth it to check them over the time lost. I assumed the same was applicable to LK, but I cannot say for sure. Ah I see. It's got to be the special chests in the hall? That could be it. I'll check out RoF, thanks.

I was running LK and council for a bit and decided to pick up all the GCs I could find. Lo and behold, a few ended up as ilvl 93 though I'm unsure where precisely I got them. Pretty sure they were from act 3 though.
Any object drops ilvl99 items in those areas but the golden chests drop lots of things at once and are in known locations (sometimes within a few teleports of the WP)
 
Indeed, that's a good tip. You can get any affix item this way. Also applies to 1.08, which had the elemental charms. You can get those high damage ones from them. I'd still go with RoF chests instead of halls, ilvl 93 is enough for everything.
 
Normal monsters cap at lvl 90, but bosses and champs can drop GCs with 41-45 life potential. As mentioned, objects, and mainly the sparkly chests are your best bet.
 
Hey guys, can you link me to a guide or tell me how to get started with 1.07? Do I just install a new diablo and a 1.07 patch or is it more complex than that?
 
I am, but the 1.07 part isn't nearly finished yet. However, starting 1.07 with at least 2 SoJs and a cache of sapphires isn't the worst of ideas.
 
Has anyone ever seriously ran RoF superchests in 1.07? Can runes higher than Lo drop?

I just rolled a really good LK map and RoF map is really good as well (except that the chests are pretty crowded with mobs).

Obviously this one will eventually be forwarded for use and not for rerolling, but I almost forgot that RoF chest GCs have sufficient ilvl for rerolling 41+ life

Actually, all GCs from poppables in Act IV Hell will drop with sufficient ilvl(91+) to get highest Vita suffix...

Once you get past the Bloody Foothills (alvl90) and the Frigid Highlands (alvl91), this is also true in Act V Hell

if you really really want valk wing and hate rolling maps, then go for it :p

I've had a few crappy maps because the superchests still drop good stuff but it's up to you.
 
Is the rack dropping more than half the time? Think about possible number of runs, could be 2000+ on a 100% stable rack. Then multiply by drop frequency. My ~30% balrog rack took ~8000 runs.. At least there was some other good rack drops on same map.

Also, don't forget about casting hydra. Casting directly on rack vs above/below etc will result in different drops.
 
If it takes more than 5 teles and a hydra cast I don't bother. The more teles you do, the less stable it is.

Also the "magic line" is very applicable. Tele above the rack to roll one item, below it for another.

I never considered NM racking, mainly because it removes the chance of finding a useful elite rack whilst searching for an exceptional one. But I may have a go as I still dont have a Greater Talons rack.

Also best tip was given starting 1.07 - After you have completed the game with one sorc, rush seven more. They get to level 52 after Hell Ancients. Then use them for racking, so you don't have to lose a good rack.
 
I did racking in 1.08 which has better odds, but even still, only use stable racks. I used an assassin which could run the docks quick. Always get a rack close to waypoint. Reroll map if you have to tele. This will ensure stability. Do not rack on nightmare, I did 3k winged helm racks in lower kurast without a unique. Once I went over to hell LK, i got it in 200 runs. I found it takes an AVERAGE of 400 runs to get a unique, and 100 for a set.

Don't forget about rack manipulation! Each minion summoned above or below will reroll the rack. My assassin could cast traps over and over, and I could easily roll the base I wanted. I would recommend a sin for rack running, they get quick speed with BOS and they can change racks easier. Get a rack right by the waypoint so tele won't matter. Make sure the mobs don't change the racked item. Cast UPTO 5 traps below, and 5 above for the desired base.
 
With 1.07s lack of FRW penalty, I don't think the assassin has so much advantage. I would rather have teleport as it keeps your options for available racks higher. Several of mine are 2-3 teles from the WP, but through walls.
 
The advantage is more for rerolling the rack. In some cases, I used an ammy with tele charges if the rack was only 1-2 teles away. Tele charges are dirt cheap to repair unlike in newer patches. I think a bunch of 5frw SCS and bos is a good combo. Then again I was doing 1.08, which has frw penalty. UK is good as well, you can get a armor and weapons rack right by wp. You only have to repair ammy every 25 to 40 runs or so.
 
tal's armor is amazing merc armor in 1.07! It has res and mdr which are both necessary for mercs. Also just great armor in general until yuo can use things like skullder's (maybe) or arkaine's (oh boy)
