1.07 News, Info and Gossip

It appears to give the piercing skill (amazon) that will allow you to pierce with attacks like fireball on a sorc :D I can't remember off-hand what value it gives on razortail, but it should be the skill level... I'm not sure if it works with FO, but I suspect it should (it works with ice bolt - you can check this yourself :D). I wonder if it has any weird effect with the ORB itself. Maybe it would eliminate the no-dmg issue once an orb touches a monster... but this part is speculative
 
If I'm recalling the particulars correctly, razortail would give you 1 lvl in the pierce skill, as do most piercing items. There's a couple lower level/class bows that give much larger bonuses, but I don't know offhand whether or not they only apply to shots fired with the weapon or not.
 
Anyone have advice regarding mercenaries in 1.07? I know they can't use life leech, and it seemed their auras didn't change between normal and NM. Is there some sort of trick to keeping them alive? I tried using the Prayer merc who worked well in normal but vaporizes instantly in Nightmare. I'm in A5 NM right now and I've essentially given up on the idea of a mercenary. Perhaps those with more experience can shed some light on this age old topic.
 
Mercs just die, that's all there is to it. I just kept a good amount of cash and TP scrolls on hand to deal with it. The Barb merc does have good life regen, but I found that he attacked so slowly that he one got in a single hit before he was killed. I settled for the usual Town Guard BA/Might merc for most my characters because at least he got a few pokes in with Jab before he died, so there was a chance the CB would kick in. The Rouge Scout merc worked ok with a ctc Amp. Dam. bow, but it did take forever to kick in and she had a bad habit of shooting baddies at point blank and getting killed as well, but not quite as much as her melee cousins. You could give the Iron Wolves a go. The mercs level up quite quickly in 1.07.
 
A5 barb with mdr/lite sorb or lots of +life or both. My sorc's barb has skullder's + grandfather OR BK CB + shako (MF, %life).

rogue is good for amp dmg as the nix mentioned but that's about it... you could put slow gear on a rogue, perhaps.. I'm trying to remember if there's a bow that gives slow or not. Poison also helps against things that regen

So, I have about 150 mil gold in 1.07... what do I do with it?
I have a barb that's almost level 97, as well, if that matters
 
Collect all the rejuvs! .. I dunno, I'd probably put it towards crafting bases. I can't remember if there was a determination on whether or not one could gamble unrackables like hydra bows.

Offhand, does anyone know if maps are always sustained when bringing a character forward? If there is a particular point in time travelling that forces a wipe, that'd be useful to know, but in specific I'm wondering if map hunting in 1.07 in order to bring it forward to a different patch could be a thing.

I vaguely remember reading maps in general are smaller in 1.07, but I do know that I've seen a lot more ridiculous stuff in this patch than any other, such as:

It could be an interesting tool in the toolbox when targeting something specific for a prolonged period of time, like beta BKBW or baalrun exp or such. And if it is possible, is that something that should really be declared for MP/trade purposes, or would it fall under a blanket '1.07 timetravel hax nonsense' declaration? Or am I misremembering, and there's no real big difference in map generation (other than the big changes like countess/mephisto and such) on the whole, and the previous question is therefore irrelevant?

Makes me think my particularly unusual (compared to other patches) map experiences in 1.07 might just be inherent randomness and/or confirmation bias.

I'm trying to farm Vex+Ist from LK. How many Vex patterns we know? I think Pharphis has tried to sort of keep a book of known patterns, have you?

And seems I can't find my supposed-to-be beta CtA War Scepter. I wonder where the heck have I put that. Too long break from 1.07 I guess.
 
I already forget, but I know of 2 vex patterns, no ist patterns (though I know people have reported finding mal, ist from LK) and iirc I've read about a 3rd vex pattern.

The two I know about include: griffon headdress and the other has cuirass + barbed club or something... Been a few months since I've found one, and too lazy to check my pics atm

My barb reached lvl 98 from /p1 council :D I'll be lvl 99 sometime in May, probably, and then I can move on from council and either do (some) cows or just go to 1.13 again for some alvl 85 runs

2x GF WW barb with 1 pt zerk (maybe 2 points?) max WW, mastery, find item and the rest mostly in nat res to help with conviction. max BO ofc and stats are mostly VIT with some extra str (enough for cranium basher or close?)

Arreat's helm, Arkaine's, HLW (? I haven't even looked at my amulet in ages but this seems logical), 2x 20%+ leech rings with lres, LoH, mav's belt, nat boots (I think). My switch is wizzeh + ali baba (2x lem) for faster hork + better loot. I used to use gull before recently finding ali baba. Shae in weps.

I do use a rogue merc with 120% ias 15% tal's armor, 45% valk wing and 60% in crafted safety wep with ctc amp dmg. The rogue not only procs amp occasionally (a good map helps this happen more often) but if I have a council member approach her she can usually tank it and kill it herself. Only conviction kills the rogue and even then not very often, with a good map. Both the res and mdr on tal's is super important imo. A few points of mdr in the wep is also a great help which is why I settled on safety crafts. If you want to see the craft remind me later to post a readout :p

I think I'm going to get back into 1.07 again.

I need to level a few characters up, any suggestions as to what the best way to do it is? At the moment my highest is a level 63 sorc.
 
What I did was running NM Trav and/or Cows until I felt safe for the Hell versions. If you can run NM Ball safely you can also get some XP there and rush some other chars in the process.

I did a decent amount of leveling in nihl's temple, for some reason :/ (to from low 70s to ~83?) while hitting up those racks and other objects
