Also, is it worth my effort to try to get ahold of a Titans? Right now I'm using a magical matty with +2 Zon and +58 max dmg. It works alright, but there's got to be something better out there!

I've got some Titan's and they have some nice aspects but nothing worth getting too excited about. The ED is low (+60%) and the +skills are +2 amazon, +1 jav. There is knockback which is actually kind of nice. Had I not found these, I think I would be almost as happy with any replenishing rare or magic with some decent +skills. You could get +2 all/+3 automod javelin, which would be of course much better skill-wise. I get more damage from my damge charms than from the javelins, I think! And the replenish seems slower than in later versions but that may be just my wrong impression. On my list of things to craft is matriarchal javelins- big ED with +skills and replenish would be very nice, particularly since the physical damage goes everywhere.

The +skills is probably wiped off like an imbue--I wouldn't craft stuff for +skills. It didn't work on my Assassin's claws. Finding some with a +3 automod and a magic ability is probably good enough. Titan's probably aren't work racking, but you'll likely find better ones from the rack so running the rack will get you good javs even if you don't end up using the Titan's. Replentish is much slower in 1.07.

I'm pretty sure the skills are the same as they are on The Arreat Summit, sans synergies. If they aren't exactly the same, they are quite close.

S_words the frenzy barb gained half a level over the weekend on The Planes of Dispair and in LK, still trying to rack Aldur's Deception. I've got a pavise-matriarchal pike/sharkskin gloves/shadow plate pattern down part, but after 30 runs all I've accomplished is overloading Ormus with elite armor for sale. Judas_Priestess traded up to a barbarian merc who quickly strapped on Guillame's Face with a +23% ED jewel and a +281% ED crafted Colossus Sword. The barb is great; two hit kills of most monsters in A5 Hell and he puts them into hit recovery before that. His life recovery is insane.

Out sick from work for two days, but little D2 played as I was actually sick. I leveled S_words to 70 and slogged through A4 to River fo Flame. It was ridiculous--nothing but Blood Maggots and Grotesques, with a few Abyss Knights to keep things dangerous. I killed more spawns than I can count. Haephesto was the easiest I've ever fought, as EF/ES/conviction/spectral hit. L30 Battle Orders and 2600 life made it silly. Of course, the game recognized this and gave me a Shae(l) from the Hellforge. I ran Hell Council twice to check out my horking powers and got an Ironstone, so that is probably where this character will retire--LK/Council runner. Almost ready to equip my sick crafted Berserker Axes...

Fireface the Druid got another level running the ice caverns of NM A5. I will need a serious regear for Hell to allow him to hit well with the Buriza, even with an Eth socketed in there. HotW is the next skill to be "maxed" (capped at 20 on 1.07, even with + skills), then Grizzly for the passive bonus to the Wolves.

I found a 5os Great Maul and added my 4 plain -15% req gems to it--need to find one more because Hel runes are too valuable and I have plenty of +4 STR GCs. I'll use this to twink my remaining 1.07 characters (Hammer/Fanatic paladin, Trapsin, possible Fendazon). The Hammerdin will be trying out Civerb's set for a bit and then possibly Milbraga's, as I am tired of Sigon's.

I shopped an uber-scepter: +3 combat skills, +1 Zeal, +2 Vengeance, +1 Blessed Hammer. Only about 350k because the +skill tree mod is so cheap. Granted, it could have had more +BH and FCR, but the stick is darn good and may last me through NM with the pally.

Hey everyone, just a quick question. Is it possible to craft insane mana leech rings, like the 30+ life leech rings? My guess is no, but I want to make sure. Thanks.

Haven't seen ML rings, but the lesser blood glove recipie switches ML for LL about once every 20 crafts or so. I suppose you could get lucky and get the 10%+ LL bug to switch to ML, but that would be about 1:1000 or more (I've totally guessing based on my ~90 crafts, 4-5 ML crafts, and 1 >10% LL craft).

Your best bet for insane mana rings is the +MPK cold ring bug.

EDIT:
S_words hit L71 and strapped on the two best crafted Berserker Axes. The damage isn't amazing (+130ish% ED), but 40% and 30% IAS as well as ML and 5% CtC Amp Damage mean these babies carve through non-PIs as fast as I've seen in 1.07. Of course they also BREAK faster--I ended up hitting monsters with my fists twice on the way to the first waypoint in A5. Man, this is going to be an expensive. I don't know if I'd recommend crafting these for 1.07 endgame weapons, as these have an rlvl of 71 (probably due to crafting them with L80+ characters) and the repair expenses. My Grandmaster's Naga of the Vampire wouldn't be too awful, especially socketed with 1-2 Shae, 1-2 Eth, and 2-4 damage/elemental jewels.

I have around 400 1.07 pgems, and I'm not sure what to do with them. Rerolling magical items is out since the ilvl becomes 1, right? Are there any other options besides making prismatic amulets and bringing the gems forward and doing something with them in later versions? I don't know about prismatic amulets either, as the affixes I'd like are pretty tough to obtain (primarily chromatic, I guess).

Thoughts?

The prismatic amulet recipe is interesting as you may get some quite nice amulets there-

1) very low level requirement magic amulets with great resists
2) quite nice +3 magic amulets with great resists
3) set amulets with the prismatic bonus
4) very occasionally, unique amulets with the prismatic bonus
5) rare amulets with useful affixes and then the resists on top of them

Depending upon the ilvl, there are some good to great/fantastic possibilities there, although like most cube recipes, most of the resulting stuff is junk. For magic/rare amulets, it's not really chromatic that you want as an affix (although that can give you great resists) it's other useful affixes. I'm particularly happy when I get a magic prismatic amulet with a useful +3 skill tree affix and possibly another good mod.

One thing to remember that is all the resists for the hidden prismatic part are separate- it's not +15 resist all, it's 2-36 (or something like that) rolled separately for each element, and twice for poison. So here is a possibility, for example:

Rose-branded amulet of life everlasting:
Damage reduced by 25
Fire resist +34%
Lightning resist +11%
Cold resist +33%
Poison resist +52%
+3 pally combat skills

I'd roll as many amulets as you can stomach, and then reroll GCs. These are the two items that you will get the best/most broken results from. I've rolled around 60 of these amulets, and have an amulet of the Centaur with 25+ resists and no rlvl from, a couple of +2 skill tree amulets, and two or three +1 class skills amulets from this recipe. No set amulets, unfortunately.

The amulets that come from this tend to make great early-to-mid game gear. End-game stuff is usually dictated by your need to hit a target or +skills stuff.

Getting +2 class skills or +3 skill tree stuff is usually a matter of the 3 rings=1 amulet recipe or just finding them while questing. The reward level is very low, but the cost is minimal. I've cubed thousands of jewelry items with this, and the best amulet I can think of was a +3 shapeshifting/21 PDR amulet (pretty awesome, imo). The best rings are a 13% Scintillating ring, a 29% MF ring, and a couple of Bahamut's rings of Fortune.

I haven't rerolled many GCs but the reward level may be better than 1.12, due to the crazy +damage and better scintillating charms that we have floating around 1.07 in addition to the +skills.

On a related note, the 6 PSkull recipe doesn't seem to yield terrible results, just mediocre. If you are looking for an endgame weapon and don't have a lot of Orts to craft Blood weapons with or the patience/gold to shop a Grandmasters prefix, this is a decent way to try and get an elite weapon to perform.

Quick update on S_words--he's absolutely tearing through Hell A5. Once he got past the PI Death Maulers in The Bloody Foothills, it's been a smorgasbord of blood and repairs. He's rescued Anya and is going through Nithli's temple right now. 40% IAS and 30% IAS on the crafted berserker axes with L25 Frenzy is fast, fast, fast. I still don't know if I'd recommend them for endgame weapons from a cost perspective, but they are a lot of fun.

galtwish, I thought the 3 pgems + magic item was broken in 1.07, and that you couldn't get skillers/shimmering/max dmg charms this way? If that's not true, I'm definitely using my pgems for that, but I've never heard of anyone rerolling charms into something useful. Have you?

Thanks for the thoughts everyone, looks like prismatic amulets are the way to go for the most part. Are the tables in the 1.07 guide/addendum for clvl requirements accurate? I doubt I'll ever reach lvl 91 or whatever I need for +3 skill tree prefixes, but the others I guess are within reach.

Hey all
Just thought i would share with you all my experience with the most stubborn rack i've seen thus far in my racking efforts...
910 hits on a very stable bone knife rack with nothing to show, ugh.
I have racked Harlequins, Skullders, Grandfather, Vamp Gaze and almost all set items worthy of my time(still looking for a lacqured plate rack thats stable), but never have i spent this much time on one item.

Shako was probably my worst (bout 700-750), but this one is driving me mad.
So... someone perk me up please with your stubborn rack stories...or tell me this is the norm and ive just been insanely lucky up to this point

1.5k+ runs on a winged helm rack. Nothing. then suddenly two golden ones in a row. Just stick to it.

Also, the chance for a rack to drop unique is 1:1000. Guess you have been lucky before and the game of the dice decides to bite you now.

just got my sorc through act4 and 5 in normal this morning and killed normal baal at level 28 with my 3 points in firewall. Partway through act5 I was starting to lose interest in playing 07 for so long and I had almost 100k more gold than my stash would hold so I started stacking up on Full Juvies and drank them in lieu of mana pots and cruised through the rest of act5 using glacial spike.

Should I try running baal (or just his minions) a couple times to hit lvl 30ish so I can get frozen orb or go straight to NM and continue leveling/questing there?

Ahh, yes. Forgot about that. If you need +4 STR GCs for twinking you can go this route, but that seems pretty silly.


@ Moo-Cow: just keep going. Frozen Orb will take you through NM with minimal problems,and the drops are much better. If you want to level up before you get to Hell, just rerun Kurast for goodies and A5 for experience until you are happy. Level 55-60 is usually a safe range for a caster to enter Hell, as long as you have good resists.

How do you "save" maps in case you want to revisit them later? Since I'm using the version switcher I don't think the seed command works, right?

Is it even possible? Is it allowed?

Quick update on S_words the frenzy barb: The Ancients spawned easy with no auras and only Madwac was PI. I only ended up using War Cry on Korlic as the WW guy joined the battle a little sooner than I wanted. They killed my Ice Rogue quickly as she tried to stand and fight, but I finished them off in less than 2 minutes after chasing down Madwac since he chickened out and ran. It only cost of 8 full rejuvs and 100k in axe and armor repair (this is what I get for wearing a superior gemmed ornate plate that is supposed to be for mercs) + the merc res. Looks like Baal will get his commupance this weekend--I just hope 2500 life is enough to stand up to his manaflame.

EDIT: Baal was a joke. 2 Full Rejuvs, took a Manaflame to the face with no problem. I think I put him in hit recovery! Regardless, the ice arrows from the merc and Amp Damage wrecked him without a problem. Nilthi was just a matter of not attacking anybody in his chamber, Leap Attack to get close, then namelock w/Berserk and War Cry as needed to keep the Boars off until he died. GG life with this build. Pat write-up on Tuesday.

The crafted berserker axes are a mixed blessing: very expensive to maintain, but with the 40% and 30% IAS and L24 Frenzy they are peerless in A5 Hell. Weapon speed calc says I'm only attacking at 6 fpa, but it seems a lot faster. Even PIs go down fast to L4 Berserk.

EDIT: best weapons I've seen in 1.07. I'll write them up in the Pat thread.

I may socket them, but it looks like I'll get more of a benefit equiping Goldwrap, Angelic rings/ammy/armor with some MF/FR boots and retiring to LK/Council runs. Pretty hard to get to 374% MF though, so I may just go with GF. The toon is a lot of fun with the axes and I'd like to keep playing him after Patriarch is achieved, so suggestions are appreciated.

EDIT: I don't think I can hit 374% MF with any feasable build, so I'll probably just GF and hork jewels, gems, and charms.

I noticed that the barb +skill tab names seem to be jumbled in 1.07 vs. their later counterparts- "Echoing" is +3 masteries, and "Master's" is +3 war cries. Which was nice since I found a "Master's" lion helm with +3 BO which will definitely be worth using on an MP BO slave at some point! I've been picking up various barb helms in hopes of something like that during cow runs, and also found some nice +Whirlwind helms that may have levelling some use later if I decide to finally build a Wolfbarb.
