Venom is at L24; 475-525 dmg over 2 seconds, iirc. I'll be getting a new Larzuk or two this weekend, so we'll see. I'd much rather find this item if at all possible.

Well, that means that a 5xPEmerald bow with venom active should do about 4.6k over 7s.

Edit: Now I'm tempted to find something with Multishot charges. I leveled my Strafeazon w/a 5xTal Reflex bow from L18-L33 and every normal monster was a OHK--just had to wait a little while on the bosses. It'd be nice to do this on Hell difficulty, even if it was just for a lark.

If you don't mind using Larzuk's quest reward, any ilvl 41+ long battle/war bow and their exceptional/elite counterparts should get 6 sockets from him.

Have you tested this?

Fanatic avenger works. Because fanaticism adds such a speed boost, you can go with the hardest-hitting weapon you can find regardless of weapon speed, although it is also worth considering that zeal may come into play at times, so checking the BPs could be worthwhile.

As for the multishot bow idea, we think alike. I shopped this some while back:

Prefix 1097 Short War Bow of Multiple Shot
Level 7 Multiple Shot (56/56 Charges)
Socketed (4: 0 used)

Presocketed, so no having to cross your fingers and hope Larzuk puts 4 holes in it. Alternately, a poison prefix might have been nice. Still, it would only be for contingencies since 56 charges would mean running back to town constantly for repairs if you twanged it all the time.

Since you haven't tested it, you don't know whether a bow gets 6 sockets or not. I recall having a similar discussion about swords, where you listed the theoretical maximum MF with six-isted swords only to find that swords only get 5 sockets max in 1.07.

Now, you seem like a fellow who likes knowing things, and you are never slow to demand that other people test/confirm what they post about (galtwish, post your gloves; Ted, are you sure crafted orbs can't get sockets; I won't craft Crusader bows until someone proves they can get 300%+ ED etc. etc.). I just think you should hold yourself to the same standard. Rather than sending someone out looking for a bow to socket and then possibly burning a Larzuk quest and getting only five sockets, my feeling is that you should check first and post what you know about instead of waiting for RTB or someone to come along and correct your mistakes.

I know you are doing the best you can to be a helpful and informed person, and you do a good job. You help keep the 1.07 flire burning. But it is a tiny bit irresponsible to post something that can have such a big impact on someone else's game if you haven't tested it yourself.

Your pally advice, for example, that's mostly theoretical, yes? Aura flashing works, that's a given, but is it actually worth doing? Enough to make a tesla-convictor a good build? I would hate to be the person following your advice for 60 or 70 levels only to find that, oops, it was just a theory.

At one time or another you've also advocated using jab against Baal and given details about MFing act bosses with an act II, III or act IV merc (I assume you meant act V) as if this is a viable strategy. Have you tried this? Is it practical to use a melee merc or will you have to resurrect them constantly? Even with a sorc providing static, can an Iron Wolf do enough damage to Meph, for example, for efficient run times?

We all try to contribute ideas and information, but there is so much inaccuracy floating around, especially about 1.07, that it is exasperating to find someone who has written a guide still posting untested guesses as to how the game works.

My apologies if this sounds rude. I would just like to see you hold yourself to the same standard you set for others.

Still looking for the 6os bow, so no report on Venom + PEmeralds yet. I used the Assassin's socket quest on the Arcing Poleaxe of Winter and popped in 4 Pemeralds into the merc weapon. The stick does great elemental damage now and should help with PIs about as much as me shooting slow Venom arrows. The decising factor is that I can use this stick on any A2 merc near the beginning of NM now (rlvl 35ish or so, maybe as low as 27), so when I build my Necro I won't have such a hard time before I get a good level of Revive

I took the Frenzy Barb out for a spin. He is the offical "lucky character"--popped a rogue corpse in NM Andariel's chamber--Kuko drops (my 2nd; the 1st is on the Barb's merc ironically enough). Andariel dropped a rare Aerin Shield with 47%+ resists in each element and 72% FR; even with low defence this is a promising shield. Popped a chest in Far Oasis--Skin of the Vipermagi, which I've actually been looking for as my Necro armor, since he will be using Bone Spear. He's at level 35.5 right now and looks like he will tear through NM and most of Hell due to the incredible 1h axes I've found and crafted. He was born lucky and he continues to live lucky, so I've got to figure out my Pally and Necro builds shortly. The Assassin is taking about 3 months of casual play to Mat; Frenzy Barb is only a few weeks old and after this weekend will likely take another month at most and that's if I spend a lot of time on a new character.

So I'm open to further suggestion on the other toons. Here's the rough draft:

20 Vengeance (2nd priority)
20 FoH (3rd priority)
Conviction gets the rest of the points

I've got +3 combat skills shield, hat, and amulet, +3 offensive aura hat and amulet, +2 skills shield with enhanced damage and AR socketed w/2 PDiamonds, +2 skills/+3 FoH scepter, so I'll be set for +skills. Fanatic Avenger seems like it will drain a lot of mana and may have AR issues, so Angelic Jewelry may be the direction I go for trinkets.

Necro

Bone Spear 20
Corpse Explosion 20
Amp Damage 20
one point wonders all around

He seems like he'll just be boring and spam Bone Spear at bosses, while polishing his nails and drinking blue potions the rest of the game.

Druid is still up in the air. I'm semi-seriously considering a Volcano/Summoner with Amp Damage bow and a Might/BA merc.

On the subject of bows, I tracked down a long war bow and test-socketed it. Five holes. Tried the same thing after upgrading to 1.10 and got six sockets. Repusz's guide has this to say:

"...polearms and crossbows seem to be the only item types with potentially 6 sockets."

This is not a hundred percent accurate, since war axes and champion axes can get six that I know of, but it is still a handy guideline. If anyone does some testing, please share the results.

Al i know that polearms never get more then 4os. Some axes get 6os. Scepters never more then 5.

The fact that polearms get 4s might prove extremely handy.

And there's no such thing as 6s scepters in any patch up to now.

I don't think I've ever seen a 6os bow, and I've never socketed a plain bow. I've had 5os Crusader, Long War, Ashwood, and Reflex Bows. 6os Naga and 6os Champion Axe.

I'm moving forward with the Fissure or Volcano w/Twister/Dire Wolf/BA merc Druid. I'll see about equipping a bow: the choices are Riphook w/Nef (push monsters back into Fissures, 30% FCR), GSA (the Holy Bolts off the FoH seem to heal allies), and a rare Amp Damage bow. I have a feeling he'll be good throughout Normal and NM--anybody have experience with the Fire/Summoner druid that can be applied to 1.07?

I'm jealous of all those beta Call to Arms and other sweet runewords I'll never be able to make unless I start HF rushing. So, I'm going to start HF rushing. I read the 1.09 HF rushing guide, what I'm wondering is if there are any key differences between HF rushing in 1.09 and 1.07? Any additional timesavers I can use, anything I should avoid? Anything I should know about Act 5, which the Classic rushing guide doesn't cover? Any tips would be appreciated.

Also, what method do you recommend for running several instances of d2?

1.07 is not really any different then 1.09 except teleporting bosses in 1.07. Act5 you can go right to the throne, but bring juvies, Baal REALLY hurts. One trick, bring a wand of lower resist to NM chaos sanctuary, with that you can lower the lighting res. of those tentacle/ghosty things and static them down fast.

I finished my first rush, took 2 hours 10 minutes from creation of characters to reaching the Pandemonium Fortress in Hell. Probably a pathetic time for a 1.07 rush, but I barely knew what I was doing so I think it's ok. Now to get 1.10 beta working.. Aren't there two 1.10 beta? Any chance of picking the wrong one and beating myself up after my Call to Arms sucks, or anything?

Yeah there are two versions, a and s,if you want a cta which is upgradeable to 1.11b you should get 10s as the one in 10a doesn't have ohm in it so it will be an ith item when upgraded.

Note that the Ilvl limits could also be 1 - 24, 25-39, 40+, can't remember if it ever changed. There are the limits imposed on the itemtype, the items themselves could also have a limit, and the lowest of both is used as maximum for that item.

Where would I go about finding something like this? Just have to find a rack and start running, or is there something more convenient?

IMO finding a stable rack would be your best bet. This way you can also rack a wepon for Passion (+3 Zeal) or Holy Thunder (+3 Holy Shock), for example. Not sure how tiers work in 1.07, so I don't know which Act would be best to rack run a War Scepter with the type of mods you want...

Oh, and I've only been absent because me laptop was broken twice the last 8 weeks and did only work for about 1 week inbetween...but now I'm back (although with less 1.07 than before probably...)

I've been hoarding some nice shiny blue items, and saved up a few socket quests. Any advice on which ones to send to larzuk? The +71 pally shield and necro circlet are probably at the top of my list.

As a rule of thumb, I wouldn't socket any armor that can be equalled or beaten by a "jeweller's" armor of the same type. For example, jeweller's full plate of the whale could have up to a hundred life and you could get the same amount of single element resistance by socketing a rune.

Also, no light plate since they can only get 3 sockets. If you know what character you plan to use the item on, you can consider Ancient armor, but I don't like it because of the drag on run speed and the 100 str requirement.

As for the paladin shields, they have some good mods, but the base item type has such low blocking (even factoring the bonus a pally gets) that you'd either burn a lot of dex or have to fill the holes with elds.

The sorc orbs are unsocketable, and according to RTB's post (thanks dude!) the necro head cannot be socketed either (I have not personally tested this). The staff will only get 4 sockets max since it is magical.

The necro circlet will only get one socket in 1.07. What would you put in there?

To sum up, I probably wouldn't socket any of them, but if you have Larzuk quests to spare, and you think it would be fun, then go nuts.
