Thanks for all the info, I was pretty much clueless about the whole thing.
So far I've only sunk some skill pts in some preq's and enough in MS to get 10 arrows, gonna save the rest for a whie I think.
I've also spent every single stat point so far in dex as well, it started as a silly idea in my head, but I'll see how far I'll come before it drives me mad and I invest some str to use equipment at least.

I've got some more q's:
Is there any boss worth running in normal/nm?
Should I bother to try to squeeze some mf onto her?
Where can I find a list of the 1.07 rw's? The link in the 1.07 guide was not working last time I tried.
When is it 'worth' to start craftign at all?

I'm gonna re-read and refresh my mind on the crafting recipes in 1.07 now, and then maybe push my zon some more.
Currently level 17 act2, just heading into the palace with my thrusty chipped hunters bow and my terrible act 2 merc (definitly switching back to an act1 one)

As soon as you reach 127% (i think) MF, NM act bosses will start dropping all sets with a few rares and even fewer uniques. This is a good way to get set amulets and rings from NM meph (lure him to the moat and pwn him with guided arrow). Besides that, there's no worthwhile boss. Maybe NM andy for death gloves/belt combo, which should get you a LONG way concerning IAS and resists. Cannot be frozen is needed as well.

About MF, see above.

About runewords, google is your friend. I believe Thrugg listed them on this forum once.

Crafting is worth it as soon as you can get your hands on something worth crafting. At any rate, I'd recommend getting to hell cows and level until you're dead bored, then level some more. But hydra bows and the like have high enough qlvl to get cruel/grandmasters anyway so as soon as you can shop one, go ahead.

About crafting, that's not the only cool usage of the cube. Cube flawless to perfect and cube prismatic ammys. Save every sapphire for a lvl 12 character to cube bugged Mana/kill rings. Save every amethyst to attempt caster boots at lvl 79. Save every ruby and exploding potion (the ones you get from exploding shrines; make sure to pick them one by one) for the fire res ring recipe. Save every emerald for crafting Great Hauberks once you find a rack that drops them. Save every Eld and Tir for boot/glove crafts. In short: Use ATMA.

(Do NOT attempt to open you character in ATMA if you have items with "Freezes Target", like Iceblink or Axe of Fechmar picked up. That can corrupt the whole character file, according to rumors I hear. I also don't use stashes for 1.07 items, only mules, due to another rumor I heard).

Anyway, 2 of my flatmates also started 1.07 chars, so it'll be a nice competition (even though they are both pretty nooby when it comes to d2)

Btw is atma's drop calc for 1.07 accurate? Thanks for all the help :grin:

If I was going to do it over, I'd put 20 in Strafe, 20 in Valk, 10 in Multishot, and 20 in FA while using a Lower Resist wand + Sigon's Shelter on switch and a socketed elemental bow w/Nef + elemental damage sources in the bow. I'd use an A1 Ice merc w/a similar bow. It's slow going, but safe. Cast Decoy to scout and draw fire and split up the enemy armies. FR/W and hit & run manuvering works much better than pumping Vitality.

that's 70+ skill points with preq's, and it's hard to get to areally high level in 1.07, so wouldn't that build leave penentrate/pierce/critical strike/D/A/E and other nice skills on a very low level? If you are using a elemental bow, would you really pump 20 into FA? I'm definitly getting 1+ pts in it, but manacost and skill pts shortage may leave me at a low number, even 1. What about the issues of less AR and overall dmg (cs and more hits with pierce)

ATMA is inaccurate about a lot of 1.07 stuff (level reqs, item stats, drop calc, can't handle "freezes target" items). As long as you remember the drop calc is inaccurate for act bosses, you should be good.

For some reason, I seem to remember that random unique bosses in NM dropped 2 items each. I might remember wrong, though.

The passive CS/Pen/Peirce stuff is useful to pump up to about 3 or 4, then your +skills equip should take over. The rest should be 1 pt wonders. You're likely to find a good +skills amulet or circlet in NM/Hell, or craft a solid prismatic amulet that allows you to wear a +skill circlet w/o resists.

Your AR shouldn't suffer if you are going w/a heavy DEX build, so don't worry about Penetrate. You'll likely finish the game around L75 if you level up at the end of NM from 55 until you hit the early 60's. You'll have full Strafe and Valk at that point, and be ready for Hell with likely everything but resists. Work on your Pen/Pierce if you have a good elemental bow or FreezeA/ImmoA if you have a +skills bow. If you go with an elemental arrow to deal w/PIs you'll want some mana leach, otherwise the elemental bow should cover your bases and you can go with a Lower Resist wand on switch. My strafer isn't really "finished" and she's at L78, killing Hell Baal @ 76. I still have room for ImmoA and only have 7 pts in Multishot (using a +3 skills bow). I didn't really need MS once I got strafe, using it across moats/barriers when monsters would line up and stack behind each other. Strafe was much more accurate and w/CtC Flee + knockback it hit a lot more often than MS. Now I use MS on cows and there's a lot more margin for error with that so I don't feel like I undercut the build--she runs fast for racking and has 0% MF for making 0sox burgers.

Don't worry too much about STR, but you should have at least 70 to equip 4os Gothic Plates. Your endgame STR will be dependent on whether or not you want a Hydra Bow w/120ish STR, or under 100 for a fast exceptional/Unique. Ancient Armor requires 100 STR as well, I believe. I was pretty happy w/800+ life in A5 Hell, but a good chunk of life and mana came from Tal's Crest. My strafer really suffered in Hell before I put the Crest on, to the point were it wasn't fun and I was going back to town every 5 minutes to buy purples and ressurect the merc.

So in short, don't worry about physical damage w/CS too much. Get your resists, your meatshield and your crowd control in line and then work on cranking up the killing speed. There are always more fat purples in town. You'll find a few great + dmg charms that will help more than all the time spent trying to craft/shop an uberbow.

*Don't use Charsi's reward until you are at a very high level (80ish) and she might drop you a GMB or Hydra bow.

Ok, thanks, this is all very helpful. It does really make sense that cs won't do much good if you go for elemental damage, but I was really more worried about the AR, but since I've planned to invest heavily in Dex it'll be alrigth I guess, but isn't it worth it to pump pierce to max? well I guess diminishing returns will hurt pretty bad, but more pierce is always nice imo, but maybe not at any price.
I've currently invested 10 pts in ms and 1 in every prereq so far, rest is saved, I'm also keeping a buffert of about 60-70 stat pts as I always do, in case I wanna put some pts in str if I find a nice armor/whatever.

I was bored with my slow progress after dying to the summoner a few times (first time of pure stupidity(read tried to tank him) and the following 3-5 times he spiked me and firewalled me while I was chilled, sneaky bastard) so I tried some cubing just for fun, and came up with a 10 fcr / 33 LR ring, too bad I'm not playing a caster :tongue:

I'm gonna try to push myself a bit further, hopefully I'll be able to shop some better base bows in act 3 once I killed duriel and slam some new gems in it.

I'm probably plannign this way too much ahead, I'm just about to kill normal duriel and I'm thinking about hell already :tongue:

I'll try to not come back whining with more questions until I reached at least late normal. :hide:
But any tips/pointers are very helpful and very welcome :badteeth:

1 - get a three or four row belt (else you'll need 3 rejuvs)
2 - get 2 rejuvs
3 - goto vendor
4 - put one potion in belt, with empty slots above
5 - sell the other one
6 - SHIFT+RIGHT CLICK will fill the row with potions
7 - repeat until belt is full

Tip: The cube can be used to create a full rejuv from 3 small ones. Sell a full rejuv and buy tons back.

"Bracers" means "Chain Gloves", just so there's no confusion.

All the boot recipes have eld, all the gloves have tir, etc so it's easy to remember once one gets the hang of it.

EDIT: But I can find no use for the runes not craftable, Ral, Tal, Amn, Thul..... Should I just bring those forward to 1.09 or maybe just all the way to 1.11 where I can craft them or make spirits?

They have such low reqs because the prismatic res isn't considered as an affix. The level req will then just relate to whatever other affixes spawn. Personally I don't think of these recipes as crafting (although I've probably called them that in the past) and I usually call them cubed - hence cubed rings/ammys etc.

And rune cubing... is that a later addition? I haven't figured it out...

Obviously you can't make a 1.10 rw in 1.07, but you can take a 1.07 item forward to 1.10 and make the rw there for use in that patch.

Shadow tree assassina update: I ground through A1 Hell this weekend. It was hell. 5 deaths: 2 for ES bosses who hit for 400+ and 500+ damage respecively, 2 to CE/LE (one was CE/FE/LE) and one to MS/LE. I'm at 580ish life and 75% resists using BoS over Fade until I hit Convition bosses and A4. I finally dropped Sigon's belt/boots/gloves for Immortal King's, and am pumping out 150-1000 damage off each claw w/Might Merc. I may replace the gloves with some greater blood gloves--either the 20% IAS pair or the ones I made w/dual resists. Merc is still using Hwanin's Justice for the fast attack and a 24% resist all/24 PDR diadem I found in Hell LK while rack running. A2 is not something that I'm really looking forward too. But I'm casting a L34 Shadow Master with pre-buff, so no major complaints.

Venom for PIs off a ~100-150 fire damage javelin is slow. My Merc + SM can tank well enough, but the damage is weak. It will take me to L68 to max it (never should have put more than 1 pt in the MA tree...), and by then I will have access to Tal's Crest or a +2 Assassin Skills hat with + life over the rare +2 Shadow Tree hat I'm currently wearing. All stat points are going into vitality at this point.

Mind Blast is amazing in Hell, absolutely essential.

My strafeazon is quite a good rack-runner, too. She racked a BK Tribal Guardian in 40 tries and IK Stone Crusher in 50 or so. M'vana's Belt + Aldur's Advance=fast, consistent runs. She's much more enjoyable as an MF'er than endless sorc'ing.

I've been spamming GA and chulking purps for a while, then I died and quit of anger, I've almost run out of money by refilling the purps, and then I didnt even get him udner 1/2 hp.

What should I do?

Get it socketed before you bring it forth, and you might put 3 ED/IAS jewels in it and have a mighty stylish weapon.

Craft some Blood gloves for CB: magic Heavy Gloves + Tir + Jewel + any Ruby

Stand in one of the alleys that lead you into the main chamber out of reach of the lightning hose and spam GA. Drink blue pots, since they refil slowly and give you a few more shots per pot than a rejuv. It took me 10 minutes to kill Hell Diablo like this with a Goldstrike Arch and 14% CB greater blood gloves, so just be patient.

Yeah cb gloves passed my mind, i've actually found a tir, but I haven't seen the slightest glimse of a jewel, any particular area before act5 hell that is worth lookign extra in for a j00l?

It's all good tips, but I'm untwinked, and I would prefer not to go melee with him, as I've put no points in vitality at all :tongue:

My merc dies very easy because he doesnt run (I'm tagging with a level 18 act 3 cold merc, as my previous merc got eaten :sad2:)

Go back to A2, get a merc (offensive isn't a bad choice), run LK and A4 to farm jewels + gems. Craft a Savage polearm for the merc or equip with a IAS stick, give him the best FR armor you can find. Give yourself some +life items, craft up the Blood gloves, and you should be able to beat Diablo with your bow + decoy + merc with a big damage stick.

Also, try to stick some poison damage somewhere. Should keep him from regenerating for at least a few seconds.

screenshot/Atma readout please! I'm sure there are uses for such a weapon (not least showing it to us here) :grin:

Re your shadow sin, I think you'll find venom works much better with a bow full of emeralds. I know you want the safety a shield offers, but all you should need to do is tag any ok mobs with the bow then switch back to your main setup.
