After leveling multiple characters for crafting purposes in older patches, this time I decided to collect some data about how long it takes, so that players who would like to consider achieving higher levels in old patches can compare what it is like in 1.07 to 1.14.
So I recorded the amount of experience I earned in self-multiplayer 8-player games using a javazon to clear the secret cow level. After each run, I divided the experience earned in that run with the total amount needed for that level in order to calculate the % of each level gained each run.
Not every single run was recorded, but for level 97 to 98, I collected data on 25 runs and for level 98 to 99, I collected data on 28 runs. There are 3 reasons for not recording data from every run: I would level up mid-run, for 2 runs I had an experience shrine which I did not want to contaminate the data, I used the NM and Hell ancients quests to finish 98-99.
Some other notes on methodology:
Here is the result and the data:
Table: Approximate number of 8-player cow runs for level 98 and 99
If you consider that 26 and 39 clears of the cow level are needed to reach levels 98 and 99, respectively, then you can also estimate the amount of time it would take to achieve these levels. Here are some calculations based on arbitrary run times:
Table: Estimated time needed for levels 98 and 99 in cow level
Note that you can also reduce run times considerably by:
Consider also that if you save your Nightmare and Hell ancients quests, which reward 20 and 40 million experience each, you can also earn up to 20.6144% of level 99 much faster!
So if you fancy enjoying some of the Good, the Bad or the Ugly of patch 1.07 and want to create a high level character for the achievement or for crafting purposes, consider how much quicker this patch is compared to modern patches!

Some other notes on methodology:
- No runs with an experience shrine were used
- Wirt legs were collected each game, generally on /players 3. This resulted in 3,000 - 6,000 extra experience gained
- This experience was not excluded from the data because it was much lower than the amount of experience gained from a single cow at level 97 or 98 (16K and 13K, respectively)
- 99 - 100% of cows were cleared on every run, including the cow king since the portal was opened by a portal mule
- NM and Hell ancients were used when enough experienced was achieved in order to result in completing level 99

97 to 98 | 3.8504 | 25.9713 |
98 to 99 | 2.5872 | 38.6518 |

Note that you can also reduce run times considerably by:
- Collecting wirt legs in advance and muling them with ATMA
- Not clearing every single cow
- Not picking up anything
- Using EXP shrines when possible
