The Untwinked Level 99 Progress Thread, The Saviours of Sanctuary Rise Anew

Big update incoming from both DoubleTrouble and HeavensRain. Both have been progressing at a steady pace towards 99. DoubleTrouble is up to level 96 and Heavensrain is up to level 95. Drops for both have been plentiful since the last update. Multiple TZ Andy, WSK and Chaos' along with the random Act 5 areas for DoubleTrouble.

DoubleTrouble has been constantly crafting Blood Rings when the materials add up. 1 of the better crafts is this one called

I always have a hard time telling if a rare jewel is good or worth keeping but I felt like this had a nice 4 mods.

Gotta love the Pit areas in Act 5. There is always monster spawns off the path. This one DoubleTrouble leaped over to them.

Its nice seeing this armor drop but also not at the same time knowing if could have been a possible lifetime grailer if it was a different color.

Massive rune drop for Doubletrouble!!

That rune led to this massive runeword for a new merc setup.

Damage went from 279-2281//851-1740 to 426-3535//1320-2689 for Doubletrouble. Players 8 is now very playable and a massive increase in Experience gained per TZ.

A nice shield dropped but for the wrong character. Sad.

Baal decided to get in on the interesting drops as well. A failed Unique Drop? But Baal can drop all the uniques...if they have a base that can be unique...

Redux respec'ed to Lightning build and got a gear refresh. We rolled some maps, settling on the first column-room WP roll, which has turned out to be a great map, in terms of mobs around Nihl's platform, while also being the NW arm, giving solid landing spot options and mobility. A vid of two runs is below for reference:
It's only one-shrine, so less XP boost, but definitely not something worth rerolling over, in my experience, based on the other attributes. She has now gotten the first .05 of the level, testing some differnet approaches to landing spot and teleport path to land on the general approach in the vid, so we will now settle into the routine and start plugging away, with twinked playhthroughs mixed in.

I'm a little surprised at how smooth the transition back to Nihl runs has been, after nearly two years since the last foray. One interesting observation is that my brain now processes very quickly the monster rolls on Nihl's level, including whether I've seen three types or not, which allows me to assess how cautious I need to be for Vipers around the platform. I was definitely NOT in that place when I ran Hiatus, my first untwinked 99er Sorc, and the runs are much more relaxed now as a result, although the map roll and limited mobs really help also!

She has 75/75/56/56 resists, 120 FCR, and hits 86 FHR breakpoint, with >2300 HP, and merc's Delirium for crowd control. The -eLR from Crescent Moon and Infinity on merc make her quite powerful. I think she's had only 6 unbreakable LIs over the first ~14.5M, with two Delirium crashes (one with an unclaimed Reaper's dropped by Nihl, and I'm sure was eth :rolleyes:), and only two other S&Es (one due to misteleport with Might aura and the other due to CE and amp taking out merc while Nihl was breakable LI).

Picking Approach: I've narrowed it down to Pul+, GCs, interesting uniques, and rare circlets/barb helms/pelts and claws. I initially was picking rare rings, Nihl rare amulets, and SCs, but with full backpack and really low odds of something great, I focused on streamlined, mostly to reduce key strokes and spare strain on my left hand over the full level.

FInds: Mal, Um, Reaper's (not the one I lost to Delirium crash, and of course not eth), Elemental skiller w Dext.

Worst update possible :cry::cry:. Hard Drive crashed...no external backups...so no more quest 99ers at this time...I don't have my 99ers Hurricane-Syd or Sydney anymore...I have the memory and write-ups for the characters, but no files....So I guess I'll move the questing characters to the Fallen Heroes table...even though they haven't "fallen" in D2R...Idk...just sucks

Alright, she's a quarter of the way! Pretty smooth, and really solid drops. The Vex+ runes were Ber, Sur, Cham, Ohm, and the TC87s were Death Cleaver, Templar's :(, Grandfather, and Executioner's Justice. But the main pick up was another skiller, which led to some charm shuffling:

She also picked up Um x2, Mal, and Gul. So she's had good rune and item luck, especially compared to last two 99ers, with only 84MF.

Not sure if someone wants to update Grintilda for me, been awhile. :D Still play here and there but other things occupying my time as well.

Currently hit 89 just now so figured it was time. Still only have Grintilda and a new zon (24) that are on my HC profile, did a lot of farming at one point for runes, didn't find vex or ohm but found Lo (of all the characters), waited for a 4OS armor, decided against using it and waited until I found an Eth Great Haub, rolled 4OS and made my mercenary a Forti, don't think there's another case use for Lo on an assassin.

Got some photos, but otherwise, just have an IST, slowly upgrading gear, rolling with a lot of MF as I find it, have Treks, 4OS flail, 5Os flail, trang belt, magefist, GT I need to try and roll once I find runes, and runes in my 1 stash, the only thing I use for other stashes are to mule off.

Champion Redux, Blizz Sorc, and Emilio the A2 HF Merc, Lvl 98.5

Another quarter of the level completed! And this one was quite eventful, in a good way.

First, I realized that the Crystal Sword CtA made it hard to differentiate the switch from main after switch to Crescent Moon. I have regular attack on left click as a visual cue, but I had a few times where the CtA was up while attacking Nihl, so I started checking grey War Scepters and Axes that can get 5os to have another visual cue. Shortly after hitting 98.25, a 5os War Scepter dropped; although I didn't have any Ists stashed, I had enough Pul-Mal to cube 2x Ist and Mal for two attempts with the multiple stashed Ohms. Attempt 1 was +2BO, but the second was quite nice:

As she kept plugging away, Vex+ drops were Cham#2, Ohm#2, Cham#3, and Lo, and then (as noted in Item Find Thread) three runs after hitting 98.4:

The roll was quite nice, and the socket and Anya quests for Hell (which had been saved in case this happened) were used for a big ugrade. I had been worried about loss of life and mana from Shako, but the life bulb actually got a bump and mana stayed manageable. The key was the extra FCR allowing Bloodfist (for +life and FHR) and a 20@ Mara's that had dropped early in the quarter level, which allowed vita, resist and mana SCs to swap in for the FHR ones. And there was a net +1 all skills to boost BO and only -1 drop to Lightning, which was offset by the -eLR/+Lightning damage from Griffon's (and -3/5 facet that went into the socket).

And then a Jah to close out the quarter level. She also picked up an Ist, Um and Mal. So the rune luck has been remarkably good, needing only Vex and Pul to complete the rune drop grail just for level 98 at Nihlathak!

I'm going to take a break from her over the weekend to focus on Twinked playthroughs for my Sept-Sept Sept, but will then keep playing chunks of time with my morning coffee and winding down before bed and hope for continued smooth progress. I also tidied the Questing Heroes table a bit, shifting entries with last update in 2022 to resting heroes, and updated Grintilda.

Haven't played neither TheCanMan (melee paladin) or D2 for more than 4 years :O I will run RFL 2024 with my (twinked) Hdin. After that it's back to Baal running with TheCanMan :) looking forward to continue.

I have an UT-HC druid up to 95 again, my UT-HC Double Throw Barb has Guardian'd and back at Hell LK now (level 86.5) running for runes, UT-HC FoHdin is back to level 77 just finished NM. Haven't started any others yet...running the RFL with my Druid in P8 TZs for "runes" but really for the levels ;). I have a thread New Year, Fresh Start Sept. for all the new characters.

Here's a retroactive update to document drops before RFL started, where she had gotten to 3.425B before last Friday. Of note were a Vex, Pul, and Mal #3, with the first two completing the Rune Grail just from level 98 (y)

And this squeaker, which illustrates the only real danger for Redux, with Zealots in the level before heading down to Nihl (Might and Fanaticim that didn't show due to merc's Infinity, and getting hit by swarm of Zealots and into hit recovery):

The RFL Round 1 set should bring her to 3.48B, and then Ancients, to ping 99 before the full 20-hour set is up. So the next update should be after the round ends and her final one here, assuming I can find the time.

Question: nila runs p8. Why not Dream helmet on merc instead of Delerium? Is it just a "cost" aspect?
 
Not sure if there is a specific context, but generally single Dream doesn't do much without Lightning Mastery. For level 98-99 not dying is much more important that a small bit of damage.

Merc helmet.

I am playing physical melee paladin. Zealot now (baal) will respec to smiter at 98 for nila runs.

I was thinking Dream does not have that bone fetisch morph thingy. But it is more expensive than Delirium, and about three times as low chance to cast its crowd controll proc.
 
I would go Delerium. You still get the aura IIRC if the merc changes to a bone fetish, and it shouldn't be a big deal as the run should be short anyway and he will reset after S&E.
 
Yes you get aura, but not decrepify proc IIRC. Also there is the possibility that the game crashes on some occasions when merc transforms. But as you mention, runs are short (approx 30 sec) so it is no big deal.

How is leveling in terror zones (TZ) compared to the old meta ways? Like how much exp/hour can you get? I know it depends on the build and that TZ's "enables" leveling not otherwise (reasonably) efficient for many other builds.

I think I will transfer TheCanMan (currently level 96 doing Baal runs) to D2R. I will stick to my original plan doing Baal to level 98 and then Nila to level 99, but having TZ's available seems fun, so I might do some of those after he dings 97. Also having DClone is nice to get anni for 10% exp boost :)

Means I have to farm Andy and Meph again... hopefully he still has some MF gear.

I read about that GoMuleD2R can not load old LoD GoMule stashes... it means I have to open old GoMule, look what items to transfer over, make a new LoD char "TheCanMan_Mule", mule items onto that char, transfer over that char to D2R saved games files, open char in D2R, S&E, open char in GoMuleD2R and transfer over those items to a new stash... over and over again :eek: oh well I perhaps need to do this five times maximum so it is no big deal.

*ding ding* TheCanMan zealot/smiter hits level 97. After 4 years in hibernation he has returned in D2R. He were at level 96.75-ish and did a mix of baal runs and TZ runs.

Now he will farm SoJ to get anni, andy and meph with some MF gear like war travs and maybe goldwrap and gheeds. After that farm keys to get torch. When a paladin torch is obtained (though he do not need the +3 skills it feels better to have the real deal) we will farm some more essences to make respec tokens. With the attributes from anni + torch, we could remove some points from str/dex and put into vit.

Level 97-98 will most likely be a combo of baal runs and TZs (if the time I played had some "not fun" TZ, I did baal runs).

Would be cool to find a physical sunder charm. Not sure if it is worth it, but could be fun to experiment with.

Level 98-99 will be TZ + Nila runs I think. I wanna stick to my original vision to level 98-99 with smiter on nila. Now with the new barb merc mechanic, we could ditch act 2 dessert raider dude for a barb with lawbringer and idk crescent moon or something to make the nila runs a bit safer. Have to try.

I hope I managed to update the tables correctly.
