2019 Spring RFL Sign-up and Running Thread: 2nd Round

@Vildecor You can alt-tab out of D2 and use the task manager to shut down D2. This way you don't loose your map from an accidental misclick.

I tried this one time when i accidentally lost my pit zerker's god map and it didn't work :( Saddest day in my d2 career. His map was truly glorious. Something like 8.99 boss packs per run, most were within a tight vicinity of each other. I have very little patience for map rolling and learning new maps, so it makes it even more sad :(

From efficiency point of view, only those two paths matter since they are straightforward to the council. Of those two path 2 is superior because it takes one teleport less to do perfect positioning unless player plans on hitting minions from the left side allowing them to scatter more easily (not to mention drops are supposed to be checked from the right side, checking from the left side has a risks of missing items).

All in all I bother to check only path 2 when rolling maps because all other paths are strictly inferior (path 1 included). Unless they have higher probability of spawning ideal maps which I didn't check to be honest.

Is that top pool the one right outside the temple building w/ the giant poison snakes? Or is that the pool right outside the WP building?

Question: Is an Infinity Merc actually affected by Conviction rolls?
Next Conviction roll I checked. While my FR of course plummeted (because I'm not wearing Conviction myself), the Merc display still showed 90 all resist.

Someone please enlighten me if some tricky things are at work.. But to me it seems that indeed Infinity Merc is not affected by Conviction. Which would mean FR overstacking is not necessary at all.

... they have an aura level of 85/8 = 10.625. So no matter how this is rounded (does anyone know?) ...
Checked this also. My FR went from 41 to -35, meaning it's not lvl 11 as that would have taken me down 80. So it must be rounded down to level 10. Actually lvl 10 should be -75 instead of the -76 I got. Not sure how that comes about.

Also, I might go for max FR over Hellmouth after all... :P

@TheGuardianXXXIII
It is right outside of WP building. Council is to the right of position of that picture where magical line is pointing.

I'm 2.5 hours in with 4 facets, 10 rare jewels and plenty of unique rings. 441 MF seems to do the trick for now and seems like a good decision. I don't identify stuff at all, it will be a present after RFL round to check what is found. Also I hope to snipe good rare Orb for the third round of RFL. Chances are very low as it needs good skills and 2 sockets to be considered.

@ffs Check the Basin Wiki: 'Monster - Unique - Aura enchanted' has all the info you were asking about. There the [ ] means round down.
The page of conviction explains the process even better, that's under 'Class - Paladin - Offensive Auras'. (Are we allowed to link to the Basin Wiki directly?)

@Vildecor remove your 'N' key. Not even kidding :D

I'm 5 hours in! Happy with qualifiers so far, considering that I have 27,5s average runtime. But the real suprise were some of the charms I found. After 2k LK runs that left me with the bare minimum this is a very welcome change of pace!

If you wait too long (5+ min) or use wps, I think it writes to disk. And I usually kill the whole process tree.

It's been a few months since i did it, but i'm pretty sure it wasn't until i took the WP that i realized what had happened, as that's when i noticed my map wasn't revealed :o That must be why it didn't work for me. WP's must trigger an auto-save. I know the process kill -can- work in theory, as i've lost some pgem cubes one time when my game randomly crashed and i had to kill it.. all my flawless gems were back where they were. Maybe i'll just use @art_vandelay's method of popping off my N key if i ever happen upon a godly map again lol

The 5ish minute thing i can confirm is an auto save interval, because when i was experimenting cow runs on my javazon in Round 1, i could never tell what my time was because they were just slightly longer than whatever save process occurs and the Run Counter would always start over before the run was over. If i was paying attention to the run counter before a S/E, it would usually have previous run around 5:15-5:45 and then the next one would be 10-30 seconds, so it must not be an exact timer, but somewhere between 5 and 6 minutes.

Things are shaping up nicely already !!

My goals for the second round (in order of importance :

  • Have fun
  • Find Metalgrid
  • Find at least two Jah runes
  • End in the top 5
  • Improve my run times

Already 3 out of my 5 goals reached so far. I'm having fun, I'm slightly faster than last year, and ...

Code:
Metalgrid
Amulet
Required Level: 81
Fingerprint: 0x713e2054
Item Level: 85
Version: Expansion 1.10+
Unidentified
+412 to Attack Rating
+309 Defense
All Resistances +34
Level 22 Iron Golem (5/11 Charges)
Level 12 Iron Maiden (5/20 Charges)

I finally found that unique amulet. First time ever for me :).

Today is a good day !!

Ergo, if your save counter doesn't reset when you take a waypoint then the char file isn't saved when you take a waypoint.

I can completely confirm this. Our whole save counter process would never have worked in the first place if the char file (.d2s) saved when you took a way point. Other map files might be updated but there's no question that the char file is not.

@TheGuardianXXXIII Removing/Inserting the N key takes seconds and it preserves your hours of rerolling. There is no chance of choosing the wrong difficulty with this.

On an alternate topic: Who cares about runes when the council can drop grailers?

Code:
Sander's Paragon
Cap
Defense: 98
Durability: 11 of 12
Required Level: 25
Fingerprint: 0x8e7a84c1
Item Level: 85
Version: Expansion 1.10+
Unidentified
+93 Defense (Based on Character Level)
Attacker Takes Damage of 8
35% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

Not depicted: Stormshield. :D

Question: Is an Infinity Merc actually affected by Conviction rolls?

He has a lvl 12 aura. Normally hostile boss Conviction auras are monlvl/8. Does that not apply to council? Because if it does they have an aura level of 85/8 = 10.625. So no matter how this is rounded (does anyone know?) it would be lower than the Merc's aura. Which would mean it is not applied to him and he doesn't need any FR overstacking.

Just wondering because I encountered a few Conviction rolls but noticed that Merc doesn't seem to be getting into trouble. I was lazy when gearing up and running with Kira/GA setup without any sockets.
If the caster's conviction is of higher level than the enemy's, the caster doesn't get affected by enemy conviction.

@Shuffleblast @art_vandelay I know, that's why I didn't understand why people are overstacking FR and why it is generally recommended. I was just wondering if there's some exception to this at play here that I didn't know of. But it seems there isn't, and it's simply not necessary to do.

@ffs I've never seen anybody recommend overstacking FR on an Infinity Merc before. I thought that Infi/Steelshade/Forti was the golden standard and people were gravitating towards that anyway.

Btw, did you find out why you lost 76 instead of 75 FR?

I feel like there's almost nothing left to theorycraft about Travincal unless something else than sorc/barb is played.
Round 3 should be interesting.
