Gynli's sept projects progression thread

As promised, progression update on the Amazon.

Amazon - yes it's her char name - sped through Normal and NM as PJzon, speed leveling at Shenks on /p3~8. Unfortunately, poison skills meant Pindle was a poor target for quick levels. She hit hell some where near 75. For a while, she ran around looking for a 4os elite bow for a Harmony; and once it dropped, she respecced into a strafer.

She participated in the MFO with just Lore, Peace, Harmony, and some blue/yellow fillers. While excruciatingly slow during the first weekend, things got better and better over the week.

Current goals are hitting lvl 95 and upgrading her gloves/ring/ammy/weapon. Once done, she'll respec into Multishot and start running CS.

Here are her current stats, skills, and gear.

I forgot to post the end of the year update over here. So here I am 3 months later.

Amazon just hit lvl 95 and is now getting ready to hit CS. Quick highlights since the last update.

Progression Highlights
1) Found the LoH
2) Amazon ran LK for a long while for a Faith. Got the worst possible roll though. =P
3) Respecced to Multishot
-- this was around late last year, early december-ish.
4) Hit lvl 94 by the end of the year. I guess I forgot to record what level she was on the last post though.
5) Invested much less time in D2 in favor of other games. Which is why it took about 2~ months for the lvl 95.
6) Found perfect def eth Dusk Shroud, and rolled 4os. Made a Stone for now; will turn into Fortitude later.
7) Found Reaper's Toll just last night. It should speed up killing the Stone Skin/PI's.

PLANS
Now that I'm lvl 95, it's time for 2 Seal CS runs. I believe I'll be sticking to this until a Fleshripper drops. But first, I will farm Andy for the last slot that needs to be filled. The Cat's Eye is what I'm looking for, but I think I'll settle for a Highlords too.

OTHER
I participated in the TC3 tourney hosted by @T72on1 with Assassin. Placed 2nd =D. She's got most of the gear needed to speed through Normal, so I 'll get her into NM on some random day. Just as a rough outline for her; she'll speed through all the difficulty, leveling at Pindle as needed, and hit LK. Off the top of my head, she 'just' needs Enigma/Cta so i'm not too worried. Running LK will be a nice break from the hard grind later on with the Amazon.

Been a while since last update; and I won't be surprised if this becomes a semi-annual updates. lol.

Just hit lvl 96 on the Amazon.

PROGRESSION HIGHLIGHTS
1) 2x Jahs; posted here and here.
2) eth Andy's Visage. on the 2nd link above.
3) /p5 is highest player setting I can do while staying comfortable on kill speed and not running out of arrows.
4) /p5 2-seal provided ~4.5m/h exp. Much slower than many other classes and builds at the current level, but there isn't another bowazon to compare mine to.

Statsn't haven't changed much from last time. Swapped out some charms for higher resists though.

WISHLIST
1) Guilliaumes
2) Hone Sundan
3) eth Elite armor to cube to 3os
4) Fleshripper
5) Cat's Eye
6) 4os GMB - all GMB's I've found so far has been 3os or 5os. Since I have enough runes for 2 Faiths, I can settle for +1x/bow GMB if it drops.
7) I am not wishlisting Windforce atm, as that would require me to hire a Rogue merc for the Faith and for me to deliver CB to Diablo myself. Can't do that without Fleshripper. =(

PLANS
Based on my observations, 2 Seal runs and Diablo runs provided roughly the same exp at level 95. Any higher I go, the Diablo runs will provide more exp per hour on average. Immediate plan is to gear the merc with high CB and try running on p1/7.

If Diablo runs provide comparably more exp than the 2-seal runs as I expected, I will respec to higher Vit to safely tank Diablo for the merc. Because I would be swapping out Harmony for SS on switch, I'll also look for extra frw from Ammy and Boots via The Cat's Eye and something like Aldurs.

OTHER
If I really do get sick of running Amazon - which I doubt - I'll probably speed through the game on Assassin to LK. She's next up on the list for the 99er challenge - long long way down the road - and she'll need Enigma/Infinity/CtA to start. Perhaps Hoto too.

Be back when I hit lvl 97! =D

Overhauled OP.

Just hit lvl 97 on Amazon.

PROGRESSION HIGHLIGHT/NOTES
1) Found 4os GMB(+1 x/bow) and made Faith (+1/14Fana)
2) Found The Cat's Eye, SoJ (used to socket the tiara), and Cham (made Pride in eGT).
3) /p8 RoF/2-seal took about 5min per run.
4) exp wise; averaged around 4m/h between extra boss packs, faster runs, and exp shrines.
5) For last 10% of the level, I switched over to /p1 RoF and /p8 2-seal runs. It improved exp/h to about 4.5m/h.
6) Made Pheonix eGT for testing purposes. Diablo now always focuses merc - link to discussion - ; and merc actually heals from Firestorm.
7) Links and tables to stats/breakpoints.

35ias - 9fpa GMB > 8fpa Shadow > 8fpa MB
40ias -
45ias - 7fpa MB with 14/15 Fana > 9fpa GMB > 8fpa Shadow > 8fpa MB with 12/13 Fana
      * 7fpa MB max
      * at any higher ias, GMB/Shaow will always be better.
50ias - 8fpa GMB > 7fpa MB > 8fpa Shadow

65ias - 8fpa GMB > 7fpa Shadow with 14/15 Fana > 7fpa MB > 8fpa Shadow with 12/13 Fana
70ias - 8fpa GMB > 7fpa Shadow > 7fpa MB
      * 7fpa Shadow max
      * at any higher ias, GMB will always be better.
75ias -
80ias -
85ias -
90ias -
95ias - 7fpa GMB with 13/14/15 Fana > 7fpa Shadow with 12 Fana > 7fpa Shadow > 7fpa MB
100ias - 7fpa GMB > 7fpa Shadow > 7fpa MB

Conclusion :
Disregarding CB/Proc and ability to move between shots;
GMB is the best dps.
At exactly 45ias and only then; MB > GMB > Shadow marginally.
Rich (BB code):
BaseDmg = ( ((Weapon avg damage) * (1 + on-weapon ed)) + avg(max/min) )
Off-ed Factor = (1 + off-weapon ed + stat bonus + skill bonus + aura bonus)
AvgDmg = BaseDmg * Off-ed Factor

at infinite off-weapon max/min, faster weapons will always deal more damage.
With in same fpa, higher base will do more damage, obviously.
GMB @7fpa > Shadow @7 > Diamond @7 > MB @7
> 8fpa > 9fpa

However, at 0 off-weapon max/min damage...
GMB @7 > GMB @8 > Shadow @7 > Diamond @7 > MB @ 7
> GMB @9 > Shadow @8 > Diamond @8 > MB @8
> Shadow @9 > Diamond @9 > MB @9

GMB does more compared to other counter-parts even when it is 1 frame slower.

So at what off-weapon max/min damage does other bows come to par with GMB?

Bows below are equal in damage with +damage from charms/gear as listed below.
Bows with faster fpa will benefit more as +dmg gets higher and higher.
           AVG +dmg charms +max
g8 vs s7 = 21.5 43
g8 vs d7 = 38.7 77.4
g8 vs m7 = 141.9 283.8 -- note this is impossible. Perhaps possible with OP charms from 1.07?

g9 vs s8 = 47.3 94.6
g9 vs d8 = 66.65 133.3
g9 vs m8 = 182.75 365.5 -- again impossible.

for reference,
inventory full of perfect sharp gc + fine sc = 10 * 10 + 10 * 3 = 130 max damage.

PLANS
Need amp desperately. Will farm Andy for Atma's or random rare bow with ctc amp.

Based on the exp numbers, I need to start including Diablo to my runs. To do that, I need the merc to tank for me && I don't have GA yet. Will need to take a break from exp runs and shift some gears around.

Once I have the merc ready (Steel shade or GA/Dream), I'll try Diablo.
Once I have Superior bow + Faith (with necessary rolls), I'll respec to max MA/GA and w/o Valk.
If I find all other gear without finding a new bow; I'll respec anyways and keep the current GMB Faith.

OTHER
Baroness in title sept is next on the list, followed by spear-only classic WW barb. Still unsure what kind of sorc to play, as I need to be a tri-elementalist in classic to solo.

Be back when I get a Baroness! =D

I read the 97 post in the 99er thread as well, nicely done with the untwinked bowazon!

I've been leveling up a twinked bowazon in the CS with an Enigma build, so I wanted to share another approach I've used. There are a few items in use that'll be extremely difficult to find untwinked, but I wanted to demonstrate mobility/positioning as a way to increase DPS.

The first few runs are P8 2 Seal, the last run is P1/P7 Diablo run.

For general clearing, I aimed to maximize multishot's effectiveness by popping the seals first then clearing out the whole branch in one attack sequence. It's more dangerous playing this way and having some vitality and D/A/E helps a lot in responding to bad situations. D/A/E might lock you up but I rather just S&E than die instantly without it.

I haven't looked into bow-only vs Diablo much, but my take on it was to use a Lacerator switch to proc amp.

Faith Diamond Bow (2/14)
Enigma Light Plate
45 IAS/15 Max Damage/20 FCR 3OS Tiara
2 Skill/19 FCR/7 Min Damage Amulet
LoH
Razortail
War Travs
Raven
Dual leach/+dex/+res ring
CTA/Spirit switch
Lacerator in inventory if killing Diablo

Merc
Pride/eFort/Andariel <- Should change this if killing Diablo

Reaches 7 FPA and the 68 FCR breakpoint on CTA switch.

Assuming you have a suitable FCR/dual leech ring, you could drop the Spirit for some low-req FCR shield and save a lot of strength points no? When going 68 FCR, which I don't like of course. ;) Though I guess at least for 2 Seal runs you want Razortail so 99 FCR is not easy to hit. But for P1/P7 did you compare run times to a 99 FCR setup with Arach? I'd be curious if it's worth it in CS. If switching weapons, CtA/Wizzy is another option for easy 99 FCR on switch, also I wonder how Reaper's Merc (with GFace) does for P1/P7 given Seal bosses are killed more easily.. Lots of things to try for CS. :)

When I recently overhauled my Bowie for P7 I didn't run CS much at all I must admit. Especially on P8 against those high HP mobs she's even harder to make work smoothly.. In particular Decrepify from OKs is annoying. I've tried to seriously challenge Blizzard 2 Seal XP numbers with Javazon, and I'd say Decrepify was the main reason she couldn't quite do it. Still >2x faster than Bowie ofc...

Good XP gain with Bowie is an interesting aspect generally. I had planned to take mine to Baal next, with a similar setup than yours (going 7 FPA and dropping to 68 FCR due to less teleporting), except with Reaper's/GF Merc. Could still be too tough for her though, haven't gotten around to trying it yet...

My only FCR/dual leech ring is 3 levels away at rlvl 96, which I can still use to reach the next FCR breakpoint on the bow side. Things like repositioning the Merc and recasting Valk are done on bow side, so it's helpful there. It's true I can switch to Lidless after that ring slot is improved and save 40 points, although the mana on Spirit is nice for reaching CS without using a mana potion. Even for CS I would argue there isn't enough teleporting to offset the damage loss. It's 20 or so teleports to first seal and a few more to the 2nd seal, that's about a 1 second loss there.

I only ran a few P1/P7 runs with my P8 setup, I didn't test it much since I don't plan on going 97+. Getting to 99 FCR with Arach is a good idea in that scenario since pierce doesn't do much against Diablo and P1 mobs just melt either way. Then again I'd probably go the Gunslinger route for P1/P7.

@Albatross Thanks! I knew i forgot an option.

@NanoMist Thanks for the gameplay. The biggest difference between your gameplay and mine (asides from the obvious teleport with Enigma), seems to be that I actually kill everything en route to the seals. That means once to get to the seal, and another for the seal boss pack; I should try maneuver around and try to pop the seal before taking down the whole branch at once like you did.

Should increase the clear speed drastically! :D albeit risky. lol

I'm also quite surprised how fast you can take down the seal bosses w/o Decrep from merc. Maybe I misjudged Pride on higher player settings; I'll give that another try.

I just sped through all of Normal with this Sorc; and decided I didn't even want to wait for lvl 30 before Diablo. Grand Vizier was actually the hardest to take down cause it spawned FI. I had to static it down to a sliver; and finish it off with telekinesis. As for Diablo himself, I just spammed fireballs while strafing left and right, and the fight was over in a few minutes.

Plans for now is to hit lvl 30, respec to Orber and rush through NM by tonight. Should only take couple hrs.

Leveled at Rakanishu up till 35 ish. Respeced to Orb. and Rushed through NM. Maxed Teleport to reduce its mana cost; so I can spam it. But of course, there were a handful of deaths due to blind teleports with low life and poor fhr.

Found Nokozan early on; and I was able to stay at 85% fire resist for most of the difficulty - which helped alot in act 3 against flayer shamans. I swapped out the 30% fr wand for 20% fcr wand at act 4 though for faster teleports.

All in all, this must be the fastest I've completed any difficulty. lol. Orb + Teleport + no immunities? Super fast. :p

The Original plan of Meteorb + skipping targets was quickly dismissed when I learned that Countess always spawns FI/CI. Turns out, to solo Hell in classic as a sorc, you need to be a tri-elementalist.

So the result was this weird Orb/Hydra/Thunderstorm hybrid. lol.

Main play style was to Orb everything not CI; skip any non-important targets; and let Hydra/Thunder Storm do its job while I run circles around any CI targets.

Countess killed off my initial plan of Meteorb when I realized Telekinesis just doesn't do enough damage to finish her off. After losing a whole bunch of skills from the Cold Mastery and going from lvl 20 teleport to lvl 1; I quickly lost all of my patience. Sorc sucks at soloing in classic!

The only upside is the lack of difficult penalty on Static Field; so in group play, you can literally max Static Field and leave every mob with a sliver of hp even in Hell.

Anywho, I respecced her to Orb/Hydra/Thunderstorm hybrid and skipped through most of the difficulty, only stopping at key targets, quests, waypoints, and act bosses on /p1.

Act I went by super quick; Countess was dispatched with static field and thunderstorm. Andariel went down easily enough from Orb.

Act II was a lot of teleporting; but nothing much to note. Fangskin spawned below the alter, so I sat on top and let Hydras do their job. Found the magician on the 1st try, so that was neat.

Act III was where I had the most deaths. I often got hit stun locked while blind teleporting through the jungle; so it took a couple tries for me to find all the WPs and organs.

Meph fight was also very chaotic because I teleported past the Counsels straight into a handful of Dark Lords and my Hydras weren't strong enough to take them down quickly. Couple insta-deaths and couple close-calls later; I ended up using the moat trick to take down the Meph.

Act IV was mostly easy; Izual went down w/o me realizing it was him.

But the hardest fight of the whole difficulty was with Hephasto. He spawned FI/CI + Conviction + Spectral, and I could not tank more than 1 shot from him. In the end; i resorted to running laps around this pool of lava while TS withered him down. It took about 15 or so minutes to finish him off.View attachment 11831

De Seis luckily spawned only CI; so the hydras took care of him rather quickly. Diablo was even easier. I sat in front of him spamming static while he burped some lightning over my head, and Thunder Storm finished him off in a few ticks. :p

After finishing the difficulty, I respecced her to pure blizzard and sniped the Cow King for the sake of completion.

It was an interesting change of pace from the Amazon; but the lack of a merc and +skills really made it difficult to have any decent solutions for immunes. With a classic sorc, I'd much rather play her online with a group of friends as a specialist, than try to force solo play as jack of all trades. All in all, fun experience, but wouldn't want to do it again...

P.S.
OTHER PLANS
Next up is the Classic spear barb. He's HC, so he'll be played alongside Amazon at a very very slow pace. I plan to make up for my lack of patience with over-farming and over-leveling. :D

He's part of the spear-only challenge by @Pijus; so he started off his journey with opening lots of chests in Blood moor until he could afford a spear.

Act 1 and 2 was slow at best; not being able to use double-swing or poison potions meant I had to poke one monster at a time. He hit lvl 30 in Act 3 with the help of Cold merc; and that was that. In classic, WW automatically hits at 4fpa with any weapon; so going from 15~ fpa concentrate to 4fpa ww was biggg improvement.

Rest of Act 3 and 4 went by quickly with WW; and now he'll be farming Diablo for double or triple durability pike. My current pike must be made of glass or something cause it is shatters in a handful of whirls. :(

I've jumped ahead a bit.

Between farming NM Andy with 'King' above and running CS with my bowa; I felt like in need of some mass-killing spree. Here's the result of couple hours of spamming and running non-stop while chugging lots of blue and white potions. :D

Fire druid was a perfect choice for my sudden craving of mass killing spree; he just needed to drop Fissure in front of him and the monsters would drop dead trying to run across it. Act 5 was especially fun with lots of fast moving melee mobs and Act 3 was actually the worst because tiny dart flayers would stand still and Fissure would all miss. I actually had one death in Flayer Dungeon in Act 3; Flayer Shaman actually torched me to death due to a combination of Fissure not hitting anything in tiny corridors and me forgetting to socket Rals in the helm.

I'm unsure what to do with him for the next 2 difficulties; I'll first have to decide on whether to keep him as a elemental druid or switch to a Summoner for one difficulty and Shapeshift for another.

OTHER PLANS
My bowazon is still top priority and will likely spend most of my gaming hours on her, but Title sept will most likely be finished with just the time in between the bowa sessions. I do have a 'Guardian' fishymancer in Act 2 Normal for when I want to lean back and slow down the pace, and a 'Matriarch' assassin not yet started for another session like the one above. :D

There's also a Classic HC bowa as part of the title-sept that I plan on turning into Medusa/strafer... but let's not talk about that for now...

This title sept progression is sort of becoming a weekly update. It'll probably slow down now though. :p

Anyway, here's Duke King. Slightly more detailed report here.

One NDE in flayer dungeon against Ghosts.
Not much else to note. 4fpa WW is neat. :D

I have 3/4 Iratha's set completed; just the belt is missing. I'll probably run Rakanishu for some exp and two rare lances, then proceed to Andy for the last piece of Irathas.

GEAR
not much to note.
10~30% double/triple resist gear everywhere.
2 pikes screenied above.

OTHER PLANS
Bowazon 99er.
I'm coming down to about 2~3 possible final setups.
1. Slow setup.
Cleg/Nos + Decrep on merc. (75% ias for Diamond Faith, or 45% with CB for MB Faith).
- This is neat way to keep merc alive; only needing one purple for firestorm. CB doesn't benefit from negative physical resist, so CB setup with MB Faith seems like a good choice.

2. Tank merc & Amp setup.
Pheonix GT + Vamp Gaze + Shaftstop (10+ fire absorb, 45~50% DR).
Atma on zon, (65~75% ias for Diamond Faith, or 45% with CB for MB Faith).
- This seems to be a tankiest setup for the merc. With only Vamp Gaze, merc survives about 4~5 swipes from Diablo, with Shaftstop, he should survive several more. One Firestorm would also heal him for quite a bit.
- There is a variation of this with Guillaumes/Shaftstop or Steelshade/Obedience/Shaftstop to be tested further.

Shaftstop and Steelshade has yet to drop for me though. :(

Update long overdue.

Just hit level 98 on my bowazon yesterday.

To follow the previous format.

PROGRESSION HIGHLIGHT/NOTES
  • 1.2m exp/h to 1.5m exp/h, depending on build
  • Tested lots of combinations with items that I thought would work nice...
    • GMB/Diamond Faith, Guillaume, Cleglaw, War Trav, Gores, Atma's, Highlords, Cat's Eye, etc on herself
    • Infinity, Reapers, Pheonix, Obedience, Guillaume, Steel Shade, Fortitude, Shaftstop, Hone Sundan
  • 20 Strafe with some CB is the fastest build, but it requires drinking one potion per Diablo kill. I've settled for 20MA instead for now.
If, however, I come across some setup with about 300~ extra mana, I'll try Strafe one more time.
WISHLIST
  • Eth Reapers - to socket it with a Ber and allow myself to use GA without Diablo targeting me.
  • Or, Windforce - to try and test a setup with Beast on switch.
The 40ias with WF allows for 6fpa attacks, while still having Dex go towards damage on both bow-form and bear-form.
Faith/Beast setup does too little damage on the bear side.
PLANS
  • The same as the previous level, just hoping for faster runs with better drops. :)

OTHER PLANS
  • Ah, just remembered the D2 goals of the year. Lvl 98 bowazon, check. Assassin as 2nd entrant in the 99er, check. Grailer below 50, check.
Just the title grail left to go.

Presenting King King. Third of the title sept.

This barb started off in the @Pijus's The Spear Person Challenge as a classic Lance WWer.

It soon became apparent that due to default-4fpa of WW in classic, the 25 durability of Lance wore out before dealing enough damage to kill /p3 Hell Uniques/Champions. Solution was to farm either a Goblin's Toe or Rattle Cage.

He was then put aside in favor of playing other characters, only getting a couple runs of Andy here and there hoping for either of the drops. But after several weeks(months?) of finding neither of them and a handful of Bonesnaps, I bit the bullet and respecced into Mace and forfeited from the tourney.

And man, what an improvement!

Most of the difficulty was a breeze; but there still were severeal NDE's, mostly to burning souls in Act 4 plains. At that point, I had about 30% chance to hit anything and with the fact that I couldn't drink a potion while whirling, 3k life and ~50 lit resists just weren't safe enough. In the end, I peeled them out one by one and slowly picked away through the plains. In hindsight, Taunt would've been great here.

The AR problem got much worse in RoF, to a point where I could not out-kill Maggots' and Grotesques' spawns. When the screen pretty much got filled with the little-lings, I called gg and went back to Normal Mephisto for Angelic's or Sigon's Helm. On the second run, he dropped a Angelic's Armor. :)

That armor coupled with 2x Angelic rings, I've already had stashed since early Hell, pumped my chance to hit to above 70%!

RoF and CS was now easy, and none of Hephasto, Infector and Vizier spawned Physical Immune. Diablo, he went down in exactly 10 whirls.

Rest of the gear was frequently swapped around to fill various resists.

Classic Lance WW barb was quite nostalgic; though I can't remember if I've even got past Normal back then... The 25 durability was very annoying, I wouldn't try this again without having a triple-durability lance and CB from Goblin's Toe. :p

OTHER PLANS
Next up is the Queen Queen; classic HC amazon. Not sure yet, if Medusa Strafe with Howl Tusk and Rattle Cage, or PJ javelin + Valk I've never finished couple years back. hmmm...

It's nice reading about your 99er(here and in the UT99 thread). Bowazon is one of my favorite builds in the game! Never thought I see a bowazon and tackle 99 though, and untwinked at that?! Big GL on the last level.
Your other goals are... pretty ambitious too, so GL on those as well :p

My last dilemma between a Strafe Medusa-zon and a PJ-zon ended quickly when i recalled farming for specific items just wasn't worth the time. :p

She was playing on /p1 through all 3 of the difficulties, only stopping at key points at /p8 to farm some levels.

Normal was easy; iirc she killed Diablo at around level 27~ or so. NM was a breeze as well, up until Venom Lords in Act 4 which are natural Poison Immunes. I had been pumping Valkyrie in favour of PJ synergy as a countermeasure, so the valk was able to handle them well enough. Hell Act 1 was uneventful, but I came across a brick wall in the Maggot's Lair.
View attachment 52319

I was able to snipe the non-immune eggs to prevent the maggot-lings from spawning; but the damage from Valk was just not enough to kill the maggots - not to mention their burrow-heals. I let the valk poke away at those maggot about an hour before I called gg and repecced to a CS/PJ hybrid. Not-synergized CS was bad; but good enough to get me through the Maggots Lair to grab the staff and the Temple for the amulet. I respecced back into full PJ now that the worst was over.

Going up close to poke with CS meant that I needed to re-gear with higher Life and Resists; so before moving through the rest of Hell, I went back to Normal and NM cows for some bases: a 3os helm and a 3os shield. All was good until I found out that I could not pick up a Horadric Staff from Hell in Normal or NM!!! Absolutely bitter; I quit the game and called it an night.

Following days were mostly spent on RL and what small breaks I had were spent on reading up on Valk itemizations in classic and @kesteg's Classic PJ amazon from back in 2011 - wow I've been on forum for long. End conclusion was to just skip maggot blockades and hope for the best. It took 8 tries for @kestegs, so my 5 tries wasn't too bad.

Rest of Hell was slow but safe; only semi-dangerous parts were the one or two times I got bored of waiting for Valk to clean up Poison Immunes that I tried a hail-mary run to the next map.

All in all, I liked this playthrough the most out of the 4 titleists I've played; but it could be a little bit biased since Amazon is my favourite class. :D

@zarfen Thanks! I'll definitely need that luck for the last level. I'm thinking end of 2020 for that 99 ding.
@DiabloTwoinDC Thanks again! Updates has been sparse; but it's making progress... slowly... =D
