Tokerdin are you re-speccing to WW? You didn't make that clear in your post. Why don't you run with a merc? He will really help you to kill the Council. Grief in your off-hand I think. Is that a Frenzy thing? Guess it doen't matter much for Frenzy tho I'm no expert. Also you haven't completed the Council quest. I think it helps to finish Act 3 and use act 4 to start and finish runs. I TP to Kurast WP and back to Act 4 after each run. If you get Enigma the FRW will get you through the docks faster tho. Could you post readouts of gear.
 
Decided to give my goldfind sorc a test drive. 2021% goldfind now, 15% less damage (4600 now). I'm not 100% sure this is best solution, but I will make sure to test her more. Initial test was fail because window mode + picking gold = too hard. Took me some time to get used to it a bit. And bingo. 23386142 gold farmed, but on 15 min mark it was already over 12 million which would mean over 24 million after 30 minutes. Failed to deliver in the second half. But... only 400k below record, that is only 1 run difference! I bet I would have got record on full screen...

Anyway. It will be hardish to stay below 30 second runtimes, around 28-29 at best. So, I'm not exactly force in this second round, but goldfind record might fall. Mine at least. Fabian's still seem lightyears away. I wonder what my goldfind sorc average really is. I assume it is slightly below 23 million, but it will be revealed in tests during running. And I hope I'll get used to window mode to be less annoyed by picking gold up.

Hm. Instead of 1.07 maybe I will level a sorc to 80ish in 1.13? How long does it take to find a decent map, and exactly how much can I stack safety? I have a beta CtA I can use as well..
 
Map is like hour or two of rolling. Safety can be stacked, but I would not recommend sorc for HC at all. No matter how safe she is, risk of death is just too big on a long run. So many things can go wrong, even though it is not easy to mess up her routine. 4k life barb is much safer and similarly efficient solution.

Later I can look for safer sorc solution for HC. It will include 1.07 Ark + shiver armor and nearly perfect map + not teleporting into them by accident. But you know, if you die, you lose: 1.07 ark, beta cta, Infinity...
 
Played around with teleport pathing, and if I teleport down to the sacraficial altar in the center a little past midline, then make a 90 degree turn straight to the council I get everyone except Torc Icefist to spawn in a fairly nice pack in the Orb smashing room. Torc is just chilling out on the porch by himself, I'm assuming on a smoke break. This actually works out pretty well as my merc can be really slow killing him, so I think he's more efficient just to skip.

Also got a CTA from @DiabloTwoinDC (Thanks!) and the runs are way more comfortable. Swapped merc over to Forti and Steel Shade as recommended and he's doing a lot better along with the BO. I don't see much difference as far as Insight vs. Reaper's for his kill speed or survivability, so I think I will keep the Insight for now as it is very helpful against mana burn packs.

Now I just need to get my run times down below two minutes and make my life less busy.

Im just seriously considering it because it seems like i should be able to kill groups faster. As for the merc, I cant keep my merc alive. i even tried switching to an act 1 merc with wrath. Theory being she would keep some distance but that didnt work. So now im working on leveling him up and then ill just rehire a merc to get higher res and life. i didnt know it mattered which hand you put things in although i did notice berserk hits with the other sword. If i do switch to enigma i will need to finish act 3 and save and exit in act 4 every run as i do with LK.

@Neksja As a reference: in 2910 Trav runs, I got 2x Ohm, 2x Sur, 1x Ber and 1x Cham.

Thanks for that! I think my goal is to get 2000+ Travi runs, which equals to less than 36sec per run. I think that's a feasible goal, although I've done only that one hour test set, where I was practically exactly 30sec per run, I hope that in the long run, I won't slow down that much. So 2000 runs would be 2/3 of your above rune set, I could theoretically expect maybe 3 Vex+ runes. Sounds very good to me, but still, anything can happen in 2k runs, I could end up with one Vex and that's it.

So I think I'll change my goals for Round 2 as following:

2000+ runs,
7 Qualifiers
2 Vex+ runes
Arcanna's Amulet

I am not sure if I have time to do more than one set, possibly, but I think I'll stick with one set this time, unless the first set doesn't work out like in Round 1.
 
@tokerdin This here is an excellent guide about WW Barbarians in Travincal, and it should answer most of your questions. I can add few suggestions:

1. You should really learn to use Hotkeys. Most players map the skill keys to QWER/ASDF/ZXCV etc. for easier skill selection. You can of course continue to use F1-F12, but even then, you should always use the keyboard for skill selection, never the mouse.

2. With Barb, you should use the hurtier weapon as primary one, that is, the one above gloves. If you cannot afford another Grief, consider making Oath runeword, it will be a considerable upgrade to the rare. Try and look for 4 socket ethereal Balrog Blade or Colossus Sword for base.

3. Level up. Play the game at least until you've rescued Anya, then do Pindleruns on /players8 until you're at least level 85+, shouldn't take too long. With lower levels, you have trouble hitting the Council and your merc doesn't stand a chance.

4. Use mercenary. Act 2 Nightmare Offensive merc (the one with Might aura) is really the only option you should be looking at. Arm him with Reaper's Toll for the Decrepify. Guardian Angel is a good armor for him, so is Gladiator's Bane, Fortitude works also. For headgear, Kira's Guardian and Steel Shade work the best imo. Socket the merc's gear with things that give fire resists and IAS.

5. If you can make Enigma, make Enigma and use it. It will pay itself back in no time.

6. Ditch the Ravenfrost. You don't really need CBF for WW Barb, and the cold damage will shatter corpses, meaning you cannot hork them. Look for rare/craft with ll/fcr/ar/res instead.

Rolling maps with Sorceress and it's as tedious as I imagined. It probably doesn't hepl, that I'm picky and don't accept any maps where I can't teleport under the "magical line". Things would go faster if I didn't feel the urge to kill the Council so often. But how can I not when they keep rewarding me so handsomely:

Hey everyone,

The Travi hype is real, but I realise I'm running into a few issues that I'd love some help from those who are more seasoned.

1) Which Character to use?

A) Lvl 91 Blizzard Sorc w/ decent but not "Gold Standard" kinda gear (4/4 facet shako, HotO, Lidless wall/Stormshield/Spirit, 14% CD Ormus'/Up'd vipermagi, Tals belt, War Travs/Waterwalks, Chancies/magefist) and a handful of cold skillers etc.

Merc: Holy Freeze merc w/ Vamp Gaze, Trechery/Leviathan/Glad's Bane, NON eth Reaper's Toll.

NO nightwing's, Ladder Runewords (spirit, Insight, Infinity), CTA.

B) Make a new character. I considered a Trav WW barb but since I play Mac 1.14 (AND lack the runes), Grief would be a pipe dream. Also enigma-less.

Any suggestions for someone who has %70 of the grail, no RWM and no really really cheesy items?

2) My issue with playing my Blizzard Sorc is this:

A) I'm not clear what a "good" Travi map entails. If someone could make/ point me towards a vid on YouTube or something, that would be stellar.

B) My LK map is perfect. And I mean perfect. 2 campfires within a couple of clicks of the WP. and I don't want to ditch it.

How easy would it be to reroll a good (read: perfect or GTFO) LK map? I just restarted and need HR abundance more than RFL fame.

Here is mathematical expectation on qualifier number and such. Everyone can calculate their expected number of certain qualifiers given their average runtime (p3 only, not p1!). Expected average presented here is for 30 sec runtimes over 20 hours assuming player kills every council member all the time.

Expected number of qualifiers in presented range for 30s p3 Travincal running over 20 hours:

Pul-Cham: 12.76
Vex-Cham: 4.19
Ber-Cham: 1.24

Also, it is cool to divide it like this:

Pul-Gul: 8.57
Vex-Sur: 2.95
Ber-Cham: 1.24

To know your expected number of qualifiers in any of presented ranges (Pul-Cham is total number of qualifiers for example etc...), just divide 30 with your average runtimes (in seconds) and then multiply with presented numbers. If you are barb with either 55% or 56% item find, then you should do additional math to calculate:

If 55% item find, then divide 30 with your average runtime and further by 1.6, then multiply with presented numbers.
If 56% tem find, then divide 30 with your average runtime and further by 1.611, then multiply with presented numbers.


But, if you want to know your expected score when only top 5 is selected, that is a bit more work to do and I won't present it here for now. It complicates things a lot. Let's just say that all of us are very close to each other in that. 22s sorc in comparison to 30s hammerdin has~ 10 points higher expected score, and that is rather small difference. My point is, there are no favorites here now, it all depends on luck. Well, unless it takes you huge amount of time to clear Travincal, then normally it is quite high chance faster players will beat you comfortably.

If no CTA, then pretty much no sorc. Barb is your only viable option with Oath axes or something. Or... you can try sorc and be in fear of death all the time. It won't be comfortable to play at all.
 
Rolling maps with Sorceress and it's as tedious as I imagined. It probably doesn't hepl, that I'm picky and don't accept any maps where I can't teleport under the "magical line".

Honestly, if you ask me, that is the only viable way to roll a proper Travincal map. I know some players are used to go to the north first then nail Travincal, but as I explained, that is strictly inferior running method, so why waste time on that... Once you check your map with south approach, you should s/e then again retry the north approach... it is easier and more efficient to simply s/e, change difficulty and try again south path on new map and not to bother with ANY other path.

Urge to kill minions is... well. I understand ^^ When I roll Travincal maps, I don't kill anything, simply get there, s/e immediately checking map in the process and reroll if needed. That way you could roll 4 maps per minute easily and it will go much faster at seeking that keepable map. Seeking sorc map needs all the rolling speed you can achieve. It takes slightly below 1 hour with 4 rolls/minute to roll very decent map. I rolled like 6-7 of those for various characters. Always taking south approach ofc. As for perfect map... well, yeah. Don't know. Rolled total of 3 maps I'd consider nearly perfect for sorc (all minions in corner).

Thanks for the concise reply. Again, no RWM so no Oath either. Looks like a Travi barb is a pipe dream after all.

I've got everything for CTA except that Ohm rune. I guess I should start that LK grinding. Maybe I'll find one in time for round 2.
 
Heh... yeah. No RWM is serious drawback to having fun in d2, agreed. :D
I must joke a bit, but yes, it does pose some big limitations for some characters, sorc included (no Infinity). Though she can work without easily, just not be as fast for tournament environment. Same thing with barb. I guess Beast is your best bet for it if you care to repair it...

@Lynchgrinch I'd hit LK hard now. On /p7, I think you have 5 different Ohm patterns, so if you have a perfect map as you say, you might get lucky before Friday. Also, don't be afraid to cube Guls/Vexes to Ohm at this point, since CtA is quite possibly one of the most OP Runewords you can make, even +1BO will help a lot.

@Lynchgrinch Re-rolling a perfect LK map doesn't sound like a good idea, especially if you need runes for CtA and Enigma. I would make a new character if you can, there's plenty of time left after all. I'd say, if you find Ohm and make CtA, go with the Sorc. If not, consider the Barbarian.

With non-optimal gear, I think Barbarian might actually be more comfortable to run, but also slower. Weapon selection is obviously the biggest challenge. Since you don't have Enigma yet, Beast is probably out of the question. And BotD. So Death Cleaver? That could work, if you have it (or two). Runemaster might be OK, especially if you have one with 5 sockets. Upped Ribcracker is good. Lightsabre is a thing. I'm just throwing things out there, because even though the aforementioned weapons are not the most efficient ones in the game, they are all able to kill the Council. You won't be able to compete with Griefs and Oaths, but that's not a reason to forfeit.

Heck, even Immortal King Barb is an option. Sure, the cold damage shatters corpses here and there and the damage isn't great, but it's tanky as hell. I found lots of runes with IK Barb running Travincal, back when I didn't have Enigma (or a clue), including my first Jah. It's about luck after all, in the end.

Man, I really hope someone figures this RWM thing out for Macs, it ain't easy playing Vanilla.

@Gripphon I actually managed to roll a map I'd call decent. It's in fact pretty similar as my previous map was. I can reach all but one Council member with one blizzard, which is a bummer because I need to do a bit of extra work if I wanna be fast. Actually, I can demonstrate with a picture:

That's a bit sloppy action picture but it gives you rough estimate where they stand. Obviously, I'd want them to be more in the back, but they are in a nice pack and don't move much, especially if I teleport sharply.

I tested some runtimes, and 50 run average was 24.901s. OK'ish, but not something I'm content with. Fastest run was 20.016s, but time like that kinda requires that the one Council Member has the courtesy to walk under my blizzard. I could probably get sub 24s as I go along. Now I just have to decide if I'm happy with this or do I continue to look for even better one. There's still plenty of time after all.

(and obviously picking up all the Vex runes and Amethysts slows me down, but I guess that's just something I have to live with.)
