Introduction

This time I just took an old character trough the Hell. She was sitting at Lost City WP when I picked her up again. I think she was meant to do some AT runs, but I got carried away by my other projects. I had used re-specs on my Javazon and tried out my 'Ice' Matriarch Bow, and it felt really good, so I wanted to make one character around it. After so much of melee characters lately, this felt like a refreshing idea, and it really was.

So this was not really with that strong Strafe after all. I wanted to see instead, that how strong that Valkyrie really can get. She was pretty sturdy. Original plan was to use my Cta GMB on switch for Strafing, but after testing it a little bit I re-spec'd char this way. Can kill CI monsters on P8, but it's a little bit slow. Fishy zon with LF and FA would be faster clearer overall I'm sure. I've seen some use those Fire arrows used as an immunity solver also.

This zon also became my first character to actually use that recent Tyrael's Might. Mind you that 'Um' in it won't be the final socket, but let's see what I need in it for the next time I use it... I used CoH before lvl 84. Behind the decision to use Tyrael's was that (besides to use it at least some) I though it might look cute with Holy Freeze aura and Nightwing's. I was right, this Amazon was really blue with that outfit.

Enough points in Pierce to have full effect with Razortail. Points in Critical Strike to give almost 100% chance to double damage after taking into account the DS from Highlord's.


Journey

It's been so long since I originally made this character that I have no idea how normal/nm went. I suspect that I leveled her as a LF/CS zon, as I already had used one re-spec when I started playing her again. Levels 81-84 (basically whole Act 2) was made with a different re-spec. There was no Valkyrie, but I had maxed Strafe instead. After the Tyrael's there was a need for a stat re-allocation, so I decided to try out a really strong Valkyrie for a CI solution (along with Mercenary).

Acts 2, 3 and 4 were played /players 8 all the time. No problems whatsoever, but it was act 4 when those cold immunes started to play an irritating role. I wanted to prove myself however and didn't lower the players settings, and killed most of them with strafe and my two helpers. Everything non CI melts really quickly.

Knowing Act 5 and its possible monster spawns I knew that it would take just about forever. I wanted to get this done today so I ran through it with /players 1. Act 4 took long enough, and I proved that CIs are doable, but taking a long time. It was a little bit too easy that way, but seeing what I came across, I believe there could've been some major problems with the highest settings.

There was no deaths, and not really even close calls. Don't get too up, close and personal with monsters and then this is a really safe char. Souls could provide a problem. There weren't any besides Throne, but it was /P1 then. I had some resistance charms ready for swapping but didn't need to do it.

Stormtree and the gang. He felt a little sturdy. There was quite a few Flayers before this, those are unbreakable CI too. They might have been a problem if I couldn't slow them down with my HF aura. I killed these after I had visited Flayer's Dungeon, and already explored LK. At first I ran past Stormtree and went for the WP instead.

Ahh, easy. HF+Frozen Nova procs + FA splash still freezing them all. Team VV going strong. Strafe not so strong. As you can see, I have two rows of mana all the time. Most of the time monsters dropped enough mana potions to keep it up, as well as enough arrows.

Every area besides Outer Steppes had these CI monsters. They happen to have a huge life pool as well, so taking these packs down took a while.

CS wasn't bad. Oblivion Knights could be taken care of with Strafe & Valky & Vikhyat. I ran a lot around dodging their missiles.

Last thoughts

So it appears that this kind of an FA zon variant is doable too. Probably one would like to go LF/FA for even more power. Or use one of those fire arrows as a backup. But all in all, I can recommend trying an FA zon, and especially if you have runes for 'Ice'. Such a wonderful little bow. She is sucking that mana pool really really fast down without a 1.07 MPK ring. If you haven't one, I'd maybe test Silkweaves and have some mana leech in the ring instead then. My dream gloves for this build would probably be an 1.07 caster craft with 3B&C/20IAS/MAEK/Res/xx...

In the future I'm planning to run a little Travi with her. For that I will unfortunately be going to give up wearing that beautiful blue armor and put on Enigma instead. Valkyrie won't be necessary there, and I don't want to have D/A/E anyway when running an area where Hydras are spawn.

Seems quite a safe build. Maybe max dex and not vita would balance FA and strafe more?

Everything that's not cold immune after conviction, is not a problem. Damage is more than enough to kill everything then :) And it kills them fast!

No, most of the time I could stay away from the heat of the elemental dmg. And then it must be noted that I used 1.07 LoH that absorbs fire dmg instead of just giving resistance to it. I think that only lightning damage can pose a real threat besides fire damage. I had enough of lightning resistance, and I had some charms in stash if it was needed. (It would've been if there were more souls).
 
I'm always defensive with my PVE characters and shoot to have max resists if possible unless it really cripples the damage.
 
I used to do that too, but most of the time that's just overkill. :) Many characters barely get hurt by elemental dmg if they can dodge, and on top of that cold/poison are not a threat in general
 
Tyraels on a strafer, I like this guy :cool:

Cleglaw's would be cool to see. Would lose a lot of damage but gain safety.
 
Nice character, good planning on all of the blue!

And I agree the Grotesques really suck. Huge life and they keep spawning.
 
@GooberGrape yeah, good old Cleglaw's are nice to have for a strafer. Maybe a little overkill for a zon with FA as a main attack and an Ice bow on top of that. That HF aura really helps slowing down things even more.
