Golem FAQ Revised

Re: Golem FAQ Revised

If I'm reading the comments earlier in this thread correctly, Sparky would do about 400 fire damage at Level 20, boosted by -50% Lower Resist should be about 600 equivalent per hit... against all but Fire Immunes that might be okay, I guess, but I'm wondering if it's really a good investment of skill points.

That is a really pathetic amount of damage in Hell. Also you need to couple this pathetic damage to his slow attack speed and his 15 frame next delay. It'll take him a long to kill something in Hell. For damage he is just not worth it. If you want to use him a 1 point investment with a high GM is the way to go.

Re: Golem FAQ Revised

So Iron golem adds the weapons base damage to itself? So if i made a iron golem from a maul its damage would be 37-62 [7-19 + 30-43)??? Does the 50% against undead for mace weapons factor in for iron golem's damage? What about its thorn aura? [ie for undead a level 1 iron golem would return 200% instead of 150%]

I'm so interested in trying a golemancer..

OK, point taken... but what should I put the points in, do you think? Options:

(1) CE (radius is now about 3.5 yards)

(2) Poison Nova + synergies (not sure if it will really kill in Hell though and it makes you get uncomfortably close to the beasties... not good for me as my resists are in the ~50 range each)

(3) Bone Prison / Wall / Armor

(4) Bone Spear / Spirit (mana problems) :dizzy:

I'd like not to spread my 14 or so remaining points around too much... might as well find something to max. I'm leaning towards Poison Nova but not really sure... :ponder:

Cheers

Re: Golem FAQ Revised

Hmm, I think this faq is a bit unfinished. No mentioning of the issues with gumby+itemslow and dissing the blood golem too early.

Everyone always talks about when the blood golem takes damage, so do you, but doesn't he take some damage when normally you would've taken damage too? Anyway, I've seen people swear by the blood golem, because of the leeching effect

CE is always a good choice for a summoner type. It dramatically speeds up killing.

Nova and Spear both suffer from the fact that you need a maxed skill with synergies. Nova can get away with less points than Spirit, but you still need a lot of points. You have a mere 14 that is not enough to max one skill let alone a synergy.

One of the synergies to BA could be a good idea if you feel that you need some added protection. Most summoners feel quite safe and instead opt for more killing power.

Re: Golem FAQ Revised

Question: most skill calculators list Golem AR at 1k-2k with +20 Skills. However, using this, I am seeing Golem AR at 4k-5k.

What am I missing? Where is that "+AR%" that I'm not seeing?

GM gives a direct AR bonus, CG gives a direct AR bonus, and none of the golems get +AR% as their Slvl increases. I can't think of any reason how their AR can jump to 4k.

Re: Golem FAQ Revised

I know, but I don't have the knowledge to find all relevant bonuses in the appropriate .txt file.

Re: Golem FAQ Revised

Edit: Golems can't block btw. Not even the Iron Golem with a shield.

Impressive that you remembered my question though it was 3.5 months earlier. Anyway after reading this thread I remember me asking about this, long time ago, though it doesn't feel that long ago. Well eventhough this reply is relative close to 5 years late, I'll just say thanks. I guess it's better to be late than never.

Re: Golem FAQ Revised

I am making a IG-oriented summoner (Max Skelly, Max Skelly mastery, +1 mage, +1 revive) to clear out my unique items that are not worth selling.

I intend to max GM, but am uncertain about the benefits of maxing IG.

Well, there's no real purpose in building this char, except that it's a garbage can for uniques/rare/sets. But I would like to know what your opinion is in maxing IG. Would maxing BG be better for IG, since it synergises IG's life?

Re: Golem FAQ Revised

What about maxing IG? Other than the increased thorns% and def bonus, what is your view on maxing IG? Would it enhance survivability?

Re: Golem FAQ Revised

I'm tempted to start making some fun IGs on my Skelliemancer. Was thinking of making one out of a Beast weapon and using a Might Merc with a Pride Polearm for Fanat, Conc, and Might. I guess I could always just make Beast in a Double Axe and equip it, but a Beast IG seems more fun.

Assuming I have Enigma to teleport IG out of danger and I take care to keep him alive, what's the word on randomly losing him between games? Have people had success keeping IGs for a very long time?

Re: Golem FAQ Revised

i've never lost a runeword golem between games or from wandering too far away.

i kept a pride IG alive for like 6 months once :x

Used an Insight IG all last ladder on my Summoner and didn't have a single problem, of course this was with Enigma. That Summoner still has that same IG too.

Re: Golem FAQ Revised

Do iron golems benefit from "damage reduced by x" mods? Has anyone tried making one out of a 4-sol'ed gothic plate, or from similar but more expensive options? I'm trying to brainstorm some ideal tanks.

I don't know the answer but it crossed my mind when designing my nihl running CE necro to counter snake clouds
