@Daz - I think Balrog Blades are the most common but it's been awhile since I looked into it. You should post a new thread to get opinions if you're unsure.

Also, maybe you should go searching for runes instead of phase blades, with your luck the D2 RNG will think you're actually looking for runes and start dropping the phase blade you so badly desire

Other: I personally like the full tals setup until you have top end gear. A nice Fathom, faceted, a nice amulet (2/10 or 2/20 with other nice mods), 2x SoJ or perfect nagels, a backpack full of skillers and/or dual mod 7mfsc's. For the price, it's a very tough set to beat.

If you make Pat/Mat, you can run Baal. That's about it, really. I always take my characters to Pat/Mat because otherwise it feels like an 'incomplete' character.

Zaphod. I have been testing out my two setups, and the shako/3piece/hoto setup achieves around the same resists, 100 less life, 100 more mf, and exactly the same blizzard damage. Is there something I'm missing with the full tals? From what I'm seeing I can't justify giving up the 100 mf for 100 life (when I already have 1800 anyways) and some extra defense/def vs missiles. Maybe it's just my charm setup/ring situation that allows this? Dunno. Willing to hear more why full tals would be advantageous.

If I isted the orb (and I still haven't ptopazed the helm) then I'd be closer at -50 mf with near the same stats. I could also sub 3 of my shimmering charms then for 7 mf charms, putting it much closer at -29 mf compared to current setup with +100 life and better defense. Seems like a lot of work to get near the same stats ><

Hmm. Well for the first thing, I don't know how you ended up with 'the exact same' blizzard damage and resists. Completing Tal's give +4 skills compared to +5 from hoto/occy, but Tal's orb also gives +15% csd and an additional +2 cold mastery, so it is undoubtedly better. Also completing tal's would give +65 res ( 50+ 15 from mask ) compared with 30-40 of hoto ( and I think the armor part bonus gives even more ). Maybe you have different setup, but I can assure you that full Tal's is very powerful. Then again, you should probably just stick to whatever works for you.

Oops Zaphod. Turns out I was looked with my setup AFTER CtA buff, and before CtA buff with Tals. The difference is about 400 damage - 5100tals/4700shakohoto. There's no doubt now (for me haha) that Tals is better. I would have superior stats and nearly same mf. But the stats are pretty dang close and I'm so dang lazy. I'll probably get around to switching out my gear once I'm feeling like getting some chars up to socket stuff

I got a sur two days ago, but I got nothing on that Mara's, gratz man!! I have a 24@ one that dropped off meph, but haven't had any drop since then. On the plus side I rolled a 34 spirit today
