Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Vader sent to Cenyth

Solo received from Hoop

Solo looks pretty tough, he needs a few upgrades, and I will likely try to upgrade the merc weapon before heading out. That steeldriver is just awesome :)

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Skywalker has defeated Duriel, but hasn't left for Kurast yet. He is having accuracy issues, and his buddy could certainly use an upgrade (I'm sensing this is a common theme in the tournament). I might try to get him some more playing time tonight or tomorrow before I pass him along.

Had one of the better Duriel drops I've seen, which included a Ko rune (my highest rune in the tourny yet). Not much useful besides the rune, but definitely better than the average drop.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Yaddle is sent to purple. And Palpatine received back from jiansonz.

That was me that only sent a few purples forward to jiansonz. I carry the cube along and cube the little ones to fat ones and then mule them off when there are too many to hold with all the other things! Most of the time I make more than I use and stop picking them up if I'm prettty full. So I think I was at a low point of purples when I sent the last character, sorry! But I did think about sending to a single-pass player so I put some extra crafting things in before I sent her and I was mostly thinking about that instead of potions.

Yaddle is doing quite well. As an enchantress, with a good merc (holy freeze now) she can just orb while the merc draws the monsters together.

I tried something I hadn't considered before. I made a "Peace" armor and used a bow to attack until the valkerey is created, and then enchanted the valky. The idea was to get a double dose of the enchant from the merc and the valky and then go back to orbing everything. This plan didn't work, as the valky never lasted very long. It was quite a disappointment. Switch skills, go through a doorway, drink a potion and it seemed the valky poofed. But I did much later get a Kuko Shakuko from a chest in the tombs which I'm leaving with Yaddle as a possible reward use later!

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

How convenient. :) I'll still have to wait a day or so before I send myself the character. There shouldn't be any problems, Mothma is a beast.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

hoop - will get him across tomorrow. I will keep trying to get chewie upgraded as he is still feeling weak

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Dooku's been sent. I would have preferred another level or two, but I'm not going to have a ton of time this weekend so I figured it was better to give the opportunity.

Looking forward to playing an amazon... down to that and druid I haven't been passed yet, and I would guess the zons are a bit more potent right now. I probably shouldn't count paladin though - act 1 normal.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

looking forward to seeing binks again ... never played a hardcore
windy
before!

Will be fun

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Vader is working fine and Dorme sent to Brak.

I wanted to lvl Dorme up to 62 to try crafting some lances with a chance for the Ferocious prefix, but got tired after 3 Duriel runs because I was an idiot and forgot to change the players settings, so I fought twice against players 8 duriel using hit and run.
Tried socketing a lance, but got 6 sockets instead of 5, and the other one I found was ethereal & superior.
If possible, can people note down which powers the chars have and which items are which quest rewards when sending the chars along? Some of the items are obvious, like personalization, but some can be ambiguous. It might get confusing when, for example, a rare is in the stash, and you're trying to determine if it's an imbue or just something passed along. This isn't something that's absolutely needed, but it could make the switch a tiny bit easier for the next player.

Great idea here!

I guess you decided to send him because I received him and checked him out. He is working fine. Since we are trading characters, I sent Kenobi on to you. My comment in the email about getting by the Ancients was a bit crazy. I recently lost my character in the Spirit tournament by not being able to get by NM ancients with a melee Barbarian, so my fear of the ancients had me thinking that we were going into act 5 in this tournament too. After noting that Skywalker is a melee character, I breathed a sigh of relief when I noted that we were only starting act 3.:cloud9:

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Yeah, I played him for a couple hours when I got home from work; found that pesky Kaa and got him to just under a level up. Honestly, after playing him for 2 acts I was ready for a switch.

Kenobi looks to be in working order. I had him in act 4 normal, and it looks like he played out about as I expected. Go team.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

advice for chewie requested
I am going to send him on today. I font feel great about him ... he is somewhat underlevelled, underpowered and I still couldnt upgrade his weapon much. I will do a few more runs but short of a 3 socket knout dropping it isnt looking so pretty

he is relatively safe still on P1, and safish up to P4, just slow

my question is about his merc. he gets mobbed easy currently, so he is running HF. This is his last chance to ever get a might merc, and if someone can convince me that a might merc is essential for a conc barb I will consider it. I really think he needs BA in hell more than he needs either, but that is a long way off.

His damage is poor now, and might would help, but a good weapon is always just around the corner so I am leery to make the decision away from safety

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Might, for my money. It helps his damage and leech, and it helps the merc's damage and leech. But without a better weapon, the merc argument might end up being academic...

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Chewie has been sent out

Upgraded his weapon to a barbed club (grr) black runeword. Helps a lot
Followed skunks advice with might, which does help.
Merc gear sucks.

I actually created a new tactic with this guy .... use a eth socketed bow with puny damage to make a valk from his Peace armour, and then follow behind them watching them kill stuff!

Chewie isn't terrible, but I seriously did do that for a fair chunk of time.

At least he has high life, decent armour and block, and a level 3 warcry from helm to stun mobs.

Oh, and NO MANA LEACH! oh god. Blue potions! I need moe blue potions! *weeps quietly to self, dreaming of unlimited mana*

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Well, I have a small dilemma. Since installing 1.13, I've had a game-crashing bug with amazons... if I play one with some combination of javelin, shield, and helm, the game crashes.

Which is what Amidala has got! Alas!

I have two options. One, I'm going to play around with her gear, and see if I can come up with a combination that works. Second, and my least favorite, would be to simple go with a spear instead... but that makes me nervous, due to her reasonably poor resists.

Anyway... here we go!

****

EDIT/UPDATE:

Well, playing around with her gear didn't help... my version of D2 just doesn't like Amidala if she has a javelin. But she's just fine with a spear... and due to a bit of great luck in the Great Marsh, Amidala now has a Smoke armor to make life much easier. I hate blowing the Lum rune in act 3 NM, since I'm sure I'll get a resistance-challenged character in Hell, but perhaps I'll find another, and Amidala is much happier for it. Now if I could only find an exceptional 5-socket spear...

Antilles received and he is in working order. I am glad I got such a sturdy character (which is also one I played in Act I NM so I know him pretty well) for the sometimes scary Act III temples.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Alas! Deeds for Amidala.

I had already beaten act 3, with no real trouble at all... I was able to upgrade both her gear and her merc's gear significantly (Smoke and Honor for her, and a blood armor for the merc). But while doing my 10 permitted Mephisto runs, I got surrounded by *two* groups of extra fast Urdar types (or whatever they call them in the Durance)... with a relatively slow attack and no blocking, I got smushed. I tried to TP out, but the portal ended up on the other side of the pack, and I couldn't get to it.

The worst part is, of course, that I could've just rested and not done the runs at all... I already had two great items in my stash for future rewards, and the odds of improving on them were long. Sigh.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Skywalker has defeated Mephisto and awaits his new owner in the Pandamonium Fortress. He seems to be rather capable. He was running on P8 for the entire act 3 including Mephisto. I hope the next owner does not mind that I changed to an act 3 cold merc. The act 2 merc simply insisted on being the tank and that meant that he died too quickly and for no good purpose. The new merc sits back and slows down the opposition...and he lives to do it for a prolonged period of time.

RIP Amidala. Your passing will not be forgotten. (no Mephisto runs for me!!)
