Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

I have been running two Diablo 2 games to do self muling, rushing etc. for a few days now after the ban wave. The most important thing is that you have not modified any D2 files and are not using any 3rd party software. Two computers behind the same ip-address should be fine. Also using VMWare or fast user switching is not a bannable offense.

Summary: You can't be banned for playing multiple D2 games using only one ip-address. End of story.

you could get a temp ban for changing games quickly, but thats about it
around 20/hr is the limit iirc

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

@ ^ are you both sure? Cause i always thought they checked the ip's and when there are 2 players with same ip they both get kicked off...

Just curious as i have two copies of my own ^^

cheers,

Worked for me before and after mass bans...

So no bans for me for using xp rapid account feature...

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

Think about this scenario. There is a BIG University, where there are some D2 players. Often these universities have only one "big pipe" for students to go over to the Internet, using only one or just a few ip-addresses. (At least here in the cold north).

Still there are many who play online, even Diablo 2, sometimes. IMO Blizzard can't start banning people for this, or otherwise many university students could not play. :scratchchin:

That's my opinion for this matter.

Hi,

How to do fast account switch under Win Vista? Any hotkey (or how to turn it on)?

Thanks!

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

Just one question: would "Run As" command work? In this case there is no need for user switching.

Edit: never mind ... seems it was tested and it does not work

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

I set this up this weekend and all worked fine. I have managed to trade between my characters in the same account.

So I went for the next step and started to self-rush a character and ran into a problem. My lower level character cannot enter the higher level characters portals (I did not try the other way around as it is mostly pointless). I would have to have my high level character run through the act and clear everything so that the low level character could then walk through to the next waypoint or quest area. For this, I can use the old method and just make sure that the game is permed for 5 minutes first.

Maybe its my lack of knowledge about bnet, but does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

You should be able to use higher lever characters portals just fine. Make sure that both characters are in party. There are few places where low level characters cannot enter these portals before talking to some npc/visiting the place by self. At least Durance of hate and Tal Rashas tombs are places that have caused problems for me.

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

To put this baby to rest about multiple Diablo 2 copies running on one IP. I mailed Blizzard directly and asked. Here is the response regarding fast user switching and VMware (Virtual PC).

This was the question i posed.

- I was wondering what your stance is regarding Virtual PC software (running two operating systems on one computer) and Diablo 2. Do you allow the installation of two legal copies with two legal keys to run simultaneous on one computer through the use of this method?. Also wanted to ask how Blizzard feels about fast user switching enabling two different legal copies to run simultaneously using different users on the same PC?

Thank you for contacting Blizzard Technical Support! My name is Leah and I will be assisting you with this issue. I am sorry to hear that you have been experiencing an issue with the game. Although parts of this message may be pre-written, please know that your email has been read in its entirety.

As long as you are not using some third party software specifically designed for use with the game, you should not be restricted. Emulating an additional operating system can work, but we are unable to support it.

Thank you again for contacting Blizzard Technical Support and please let me know if I can be of any further assistance!

Sincerely,

Leah C.

This means both fast user switching and using VMware from the same IP is allowed but not supported. Most of you already knew that including me but now it's layed to rest.

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

this thread is a little old, but i've got a question...

i can get both copies to run simultaneously, however, when i go to join a game created by either my characters, it gives me the "game does not exist" message.

when i switch back to the other user, the game is still up and running.

any thoughts?

**edit**

im dumb...i created the accounts on different realms

It should be same as in XP as default, although 1 more step is needed. Windows button+L, press change user and then choose the one you want to change to. However the Guest user account installed as part of the OS does not work for this. I had to create a new account with admin rights in order to be able to sign on to D2. Just to be certain I also run the game in compatibility mode for XP as well.

That was an interesting reply. I also emailed them about the same thing, although using fast user switching instead of emulating a OS. I was told it is against the EULA and if detected will result in a ban. However if they could detect the use of fast user switching or not was not said. The reply is quoted below:

I cannot disclose exactly whether or not this will be detected, but I can tell you that any method of opening multiple games in tandem on the same system is against the terms of use for Closed Battle.net and will cause your account to be permanently banned and the CD-Key to be restricted for at least one month. I strongly urge you to not attempt this to prevent your account from being closed.

Based on this reply the use of VMWare falls under the category of "any method of opening multiple games in tandem on the same system" which results in a ban. If they detect it or not... or care is a different story.

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

I honestly careless for it :p If they banz0r me I'll keep on playing Single Player and I'll be happy there. So far no one's been detected and dat's enought for meh!

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

In Professor Farnsworth's voice: "Good news everyone!".

Recently, I found out that you can play multiple D2 clients through "Sandboxie". Those that use Sandboxie should know just how useful it is; however, for those that don't, here is the URL to their site (http://www.sandboxie.com/), it's completely free and legit, it is virtually undetectable since the D2 client that is run through SandBoxie will be completely shut off except from the internet, and it is a lot more stable then running VM ware and has a lot, lot more trustworthiness and credibility than D2Loader.

Combine this with WINSOCK and you can literally play your own 8 player game on BNET. Powerleveling 7 characters yourself in one go through ubers? -- Awesome.

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

Been using SandBoxie for some time myself and i can only recommend. Was actually about to write a short guide on how to install / setup the software, but my lazyness was in the way :coffee:

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

ok, ive got a little problem here

when i am plugged into my router with an ethernet cable this works just fine...

however, when i unplug and use my wireless connection, it seems as though the internet connection is reset when i switch users, causing my D2 games to crash.

any way i can make it not do that?

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

I am no expert in this, but maybe the computer requests a new dynamic IP when you log in with another account?

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

If that is the case can I not run 2 copies?

Is there some way to disable that? Make it use the same IP when I switch?

Re: Running Two Copies of D2 on one computer

Sorry, I'm not that computer savvy.

Could someone walk me through setting a static IP?

Thanks!
